Came here for lunch during the Hill City burger battle week. My wife & I had the Spirit of "76" burger special for the week. It's a bison venison blend with caramelized onions in whiskey , pheasant bacon & a whiskey cherry peppercorn sauce. Came with your choice of sides they have. For me the burger could've been bigger, but was tasty. It wasn't the best I ever had, but I would get it again. Service was very good & friendly, nice western theme with some neat pictures & decorations around inside. Looking forward to coming back and trying some other things on the menu. read more

The wine selection blew away my expectations! If anyone is a Cabernet fan... get the jam Cabernet. It was so good! The garden wrap was perfect and light. It's also a great pick to take home and eat later because it'd be good cold. The fries were the perfect amount of salty. All was well! read more

Came here during a busy afternoon but Lexi took amazing care of us! She was super sweet and speedy quick. I tried out the Cuban wrap she had recommended- 100p will be getting that again if I'm ever back in town! Along with that I ordered a regular side salad which wasn't anything special but paired well with the wrap. For starters we ordered the chislets I believe which were great, super tender. And chips and salsa which wasn't anything special but still super good. The place was very laid back and had plenty of seating indoor and out. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and I'm not sure how this place has 2.5 stars on here! read more

Visited a couple times while in Hill city for a few days. The food was just ok nothing special for us at least. We had a hamburger and I had a turkey sandwich. The sides of potato salad and a pastas salad were different but not something we felt we needed to finish. The outside seating is nice but service this day was very slow even though I saw at least 3 servers. The inside seating service was much more attentive. The place is clean but could use an update for being a tourist town. read more

Service was very good, nice place (we sat outside on their covered front patio), and had the "O.G. nachos", which as another reviewer put it, were "to die for". Seasoned to perfection, with a generous portion, and the toppings were properly spread throughout the homemade chips (instead of being just piled on top like some places do). Recommend!!! read more

Stopped in for dinner while in Hill City. Very dog friendly. They have a covered entranceway. We were seated quickly. Service was really quick and good. Food wasn't bad, we had a bison burger and fries and a chef salad. No issue with food or service. I'd go back. Not a bad experience! read more

I had come to this restaurant previously When it was called the Mangy Moose. I had heard rumors that things had improved under the new management and thought I would give it another chance. Allow me to completely dispel those rumors. This is a place that appears to be unfamiliar with the concept "the customer is always right". I looked at the menu and the prices seemed a little high for what is essentially a bar serving food. I assume they believe they will be able to soak the biker crowd when they come through. Locals will be smarter than that and just go to the Hill City Cafe or the Alpine Inn. I tried to order and the bartender/waitress had a really hard time taking my order. She did not take notes and had to ask me three times if I wanted cheese on my burger and twice what side I wanted after she told me the wrong side. The chips and salsa were over $7.00, and you do not get a lot of salsa. When I tried the chips they were STALE. For $7.00 they should have been freshly made. The salsa was refrigerated and tasted bland like perhaps it came from a jar. Can't say that for sure, but I Know what a stale chip tastes like. After I finish about half of them, the waitress/bartender asks me what I thought of the chips. I told her she probably did not want to hear what I thought. But she acted like she did want to hear, so I told her the chips were pretty stale for $7.00. After this, without asking me if I was done the waitress/bartender takes my chips and throws them in the trash. Bear in mind, I DID NOT complain about the chips, they asked me what I thought. So afterwards an older lady comes out from the back who I assume is the manager or owner. And she says "I hear you don't like our chips". So I repeat yeah they were a little stale for $7.00. She says "well I made them this morning" I said "I'm sorry they tasted stale." She continued to argue with me and I said I didn't appreciate being told I was lying about my food experience, particularly when I hadn't complained. At this point she says "GET THE F*** OUT!" I asked her if this was how she treated customers and she appeared not to care in the least. I can't say how the burger tasted because I never got a chance to try it, but these were definitely the worst $7.00 chips I have ever had in my life. There are lots of other restaurants in the area that make the chips to order and don't apparently have them sitting around for hours that charge less. People that have this little appreciation of customer service really don't have any business running a restaurant. I will let everyone I know not to patronize this place and what a horrible experience they subjected me to. I'm really not a hard reviewer. Just treat people decently and give them average to above average food for a reasonable price. You can look over my reviews and see that I have rated many other restaurants favorably and really reserve my one star ratings for the worst of the worst. Sadly this place qualified. read more

I'd give this place 0 stars if i could unfortunately. After 15 minutes, the server had not even brought out 1 out of 2 drinks (a can of red bull....). The only drink that was delivered was a $4 ginger ale poured into a 4ounce plastic cup filled with ice. We decided to leave and tried to pay for the drink that was brought to us, and found the server leaning in the bar and chatting it up with her coworkers, no can of red bull in sight =( they had to give it to us for free because they have a "$10 limit" and couldn't actually charge us. We waited for about 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. Waited over an hour for 2 burgers and corn dogs. Finally we left because they just kept telling us there were "issues in the kitchen" and that our order went in at the same time as a large party. That's it, no food. An Hour!! Also, there are no Covid precautions, they have plastic ware sitting in the bins outside for anyone to touch. That's gross anytime! read more

There's not many places to eat here in Hill City, but avoid this place. Food is average bar food. The service is horrendous. Horribly slow and the staff horribly rude. I dont know what it is about touristy places and their customer service but this place is the worst out of all of them. The owner should be ashamed of the staff working under the bar name. Back in Hill City we set out for a drink and something to eat. My two friends had been to the Mangy Moose, so it seemed like a natural. We sat at the bar, inside, as the deck was cash only; and, for me, plastic is king. We ordered three Rib Platters, which were falling off the bone tender and smothered in tangy sauce. The platters included delicious Baked Beans, which were unceremoniously served in a plastic tub; much better to eat than to look at! The platters also included coleslaw, which was fresh and tasty. For the substantial portions, I'd give 5-stars alone; but, we enjoyed interacting with the staff who had to deal with every manner of patron, from tourists "just looking" to regulars that didn't get exactly what they wanted; or too much of what they did! My friends had a few drinks; and, we still ended up spending less than our first night in town. Good food, good folks, and, a good place to eat and drink. This place is really "mangy" and need of some updating and freshening up. Bartender said they recently remodeled but not sure what was remodeled. Beers were cold and shots out of a plastic cup seemed a lil cheapish on their part. They at least have a full bar if cocktails is what your hunting for. It is a dive bar. read more

This bar has re-invented itself countless times. Firstly, and at it's PRIME, in my opinion was when it was across the street from where it sits now, in the Bumpin Buffalo location. It was the city bar then, and as rough and rowdy as good dives come! Whooee. The stories I could tell. Then it moved out past Pine Rest Cabins, out along the edge of town. Now it's here. What of the food I had was just so-so--nothing to get amped about. And you'll not find that many real bikers here anymore, at least not the few times I've been here. You'll find wanna-be's though. But, I'll give it this. It does have an outdoor porch you can sit on if you just want to watch whatever is going on in the street, so in this regard, it's OK fun in the summer. read more

Very, very, disappointing. Waitress was nice but the food was simply overpriced and disappointing. Ordered the bison burger deluxe...dry, small, nothing special...and a $4.99 charge for a strip of bacon for the burger! (which just showed up on the bill) Two burgers w/fries, 2 glasses of water came to just under $40. I left a 20% tip because the waitress was trying her best. So....$48 bucks for two. If they could have done something...anything to dress up those burgers. It's like they weren't even trying. Will not be going back. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Was in on Saturday, April 30, because they advertise how they're under new ownership and their food no longer sucks. So, we decided to try it out. We sat down and the bartender asked what we'd like and I asked what was on tap, her response, "a bunch of local stuff and other things". Really? Lazy much. Customer service is garbage. (Being local, I know which beers are local, telling me I would've known). So, instead of spending money here, we decided to go somewhere else in town to eat.
