Berry lemonade super good but kinda small
    Riss G.

Holy crap this place is BOMB. Ono for southern food and the wahiawa place was close. You need military ID to get on. They are located near the PX. My entire plate was Frigging awesome. Ordered a combo plate and the lemonade. The lemonade was so good perfect sweetness and actual berries inside, but I thought the size was too small for the price of $3. About that food. Dang it's so good. Ordered the 2 choice combo with fried chicken and catfish 2 sides and cornbread...greens were awesome! The chicken and catfish super tasty and cooked perfectly. Plate was $19 and could easily feed 2 people. Maybe 3. But that cornbread was the showstopper! I could eat that out of garbage bag it's so darn good.

Recently I visited HAFB and was lucky enough to run across the Sae's Hot Plates food truck. Southern cuisine is my favorite and they offer many instances of it on their menu. I had the catfish plate and chose Mac and cheese as my side. The menu price was $16 but I ended up paying over $30 for basically a plate of Mac and cheese and 1 catfish (two halves/ fillets). It was rather expensive for the amount of food. Nothing really jumps out about the fish or the Mac but they were solid, but maybe I tried the wrong item. The service was decent and the delicious berry lemonade wasn't even on the menu. The berry lemonade tasted like the koolaid people make in the southern continental United States! It was certainly perfect. If you have time to wait, aren't a penny pincher, don't care for large main portions, and enjoy koolaid, this is your place! I'll go back whenever I see them! Check it out and let me know what you think!

The food is good and always hot but they are really slow. I waited an hour for food. I used most of my break just waiting.

Price too expensive for no reason, fried chicken is crispy but does not taste anything special.

Takeout dinner from Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. Heaven's Soul Food Cuisine (food truck) was two trucks away from Chicano's taco truck, across from the Convention Center. We were right there, so I ordered a Smoked BBQ Rib plate. It came with 2 sides. We chose Baked beans and Green beans with smoked turkey. Service was very friendly and efficient! I believe that they worker said, "I appreciate you!" Wow! That's very nice of him! We took the plate home (it was too windy to sit alongside the busy sidewalk) and discussed the tasty ribs, sweet (molasses?) Baked beans and yummy green beans with smoked turkey. Mmm! I would return and get the catfish plate, Po Boy sandwich, and walking tacos!

Unfortunately, they were out of collard greens, so ended up ordering a fried catfish plate with Mac & cheese and green beans. Man, I don't know if it was because I was hungry, but this was one of the best classic Mac and cheeses I had in a long time, and by far the best green beans I had. The catfish was freshly fried after ordering and was perfectly cooked and seasoned. At $26 per plate it is a little pricey, but it was about a meal and a half and the taste was excellent. I would suggest calling ahead to see what they're out of and to ensure you don't have to wait.

It was a pretty good first time visit despite the very small seating in the restaurant. And now the food... I had to pick between the BBQ sliders and the Chicken biscuits and gravy. And, for the price, they definitely gave me a good amount of chicken in correlation to the biscuit. The bites I got from the chicken and the southern gravy were really delicious. Eating the chicken with the biscuit and the gravy, a lot more pleasant there. I didn't really need the Louisiana style hot sauce. Chicken, spot on and crispy...the biscuit, light, delicate and soft... There's not really much I can find a complaint on, and the presentation looked so inviting to eat. I can definitely tell they put so much heart and soul into their food, and it comes out presented well. Next time, maybe I can try the BBQ sliders if I ever come across this place again. Thanks, Southern Love, you really made my day.

This is the furthest from fast food, and you cannot come here with the expectation of fast food. I enjoyed the best fried chicken in my life here. Freshly battered and fried. Accompanied by a beautiful potato salad, collard greens, and a tasty piece of cornbread. I would order an entire pan of that cornbread if I could. And you should definitely get a side of that potato salad. My boyfriend enjoyed their mixed plate which had rib ribs and a few other items, but I was too concentrated on my food to care about what he was eating. We came around 6 PM on a Saturday night and were served our food just after 7 PM. We were incredibly lucky because while we were sitting at the counter, we saw numerous parties try to come in to dine in, and there was no space available. Takeout is always an option, but you still need to wait for your takeout so be patient, walk around to the Sake shop down the street and come back in an hour to pick up your piping hot food. Parking is extremely limited so pray to the parking gods that you score a stall in front of the restaurant or try your luck on the street and take a short walk down.

Kindred's Cookout = Soul Food Done Right…read more If comfort food had a love language, this would be it. Kindred's Cookout is the kind of place that reminds you why Southern food will always have a chokehold on us. I went straight for the Southern fried chicken & shrimp with mac and cheese, and let me tell you--every bite hit. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, juicy on the inside with that crispy, golden crust that actually crunches. The shrimp? Fried just right, not greasy, with bold flavor that stands on its own without needing sauce. But the real star of the show--for me--is the Cajun fried catfish. This is my personal favorite and for good reason. The seasoning is on point: spicy, smoky, and flavorful without overpowering the fish. Crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside--exactly how catfish should be done. You can taste the care and experience in every bite. And the mac and cheese deserves its own moment. Creamy, cheesy, rich, and comforting--no shortcuts here. It's the kind of mac that makes you pause mid-bite and nod in approval. Kindred's Cookout isn't just serving food, it's serving heart, heritage, and serious flavor. If you're craving real Southern comfort with bold Cajun flair, this spot is a must. I'll definitely be back--and I already know what I'm ordering again.

Mmmm... Delicious!!…read more The wife and I caught a quick glance of Moore's Soul Food Kitchen truck while they were parked at Geiger in Ewa Beach. It was the first time we saw this truck, so we both couldn't help but be curious about the goods.. especially my wife lol. First off, the owner was super cool! Being that my wife is from Louisiana, every time we hit up a soul food spot, she asks where they're from. Today, we learned that the Moore's family is from Florida and have been in Hawaii since the 80's. Since we already had an early lunch, we weren't tryna get too crazy on the ordering as I typically do. My wife decided to try the chicken wing plate which came with 10pc chicken wings and fries. After debating on the flavor choice, we agreed on chipotle mango. When the owner hand delivered the plate to us, she asked for our honest review... and here it is!! Haha! FIVE STARS! :) Happy to report the wings and fries were amazing!!! Loved the homemade sauce that the wings were tossed in. I was expecting a little kick after catching a scent of hot sauce, but they weren't spicy at all. I appreciate the naked wings too btw. They were so juicy and flavorful, and I love when my food is piping hot! Excited to try other offerings and even other flavors of wings. Hopefully more menu items are available the next time we stop by. Today there were a few things marked SOLD OUT. As far as hours of operation and locations, the best thing to do is follow them on instagram (which I don't have), but calling their number to check the schedule is another option. Hope you love it!!

It's like they just deep fried it without any seasoning or flour. Then they just threw buffalo sauce for flavor. The fries were frozen fries that you could get from your local grocery store. Nothing special. Hand cut fries would have been a lot better. The mac and cheese is a big zero. No taste and it wasn't the best kind of cheese. As a "soul food" restaurant, I was very disappointed. I've been to a lot of soul food places and a lot of them stand out in a good way. They marinate there chicken, and fry it with flour, they hand cut the fries and fry it with peanut oil, and lastly they scratch make the mac n cheese. Saldy this restaurant failed to put more effort into their food. Which is why im giving them a big fat ZERO. Only put one star cuz I have to. I won't be coming back.
