We did get there maybe 30-45 min before close so we didn't get to try the chicken. However, what we got was super good. We got the grilled kalbi ribs and the hamburger steak plate. The kalbi ribs were super tender and the sauce was perfect. Not too sweet and not too overpowering to where I could still taste the beef. The hamburger steak wasn't anything super special but still good. No complaints on it. The Mac salad was great but I wish they had another side instead of just corn. The view where we sat was nice but the only complaint I had was the amount of flies where we sat. I didn't bring down the rating because I didn't think it was part of the place but if you don't mind that, it's a nice spot to eat. We found this spot through a local recommendation at our Airbnb, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered a BBQ combo plate with chicken and kalbi beef, along with a lau lau pork plate. Maybe we were just extra hungry, but we felt like the combo could've used one more piece of kalbi, though everything was still really delicious. There's plenty of parking in their lot with outdoor benches. We came here twice on our trip, including Friday when they have Hawaiian bbq. On our way back from Kihei, we chose to drive the more beautiful way through Waikapu and Wailuku, to Upcountry. Wanting an early lunch, we decided to stop at this roadside restaurant I had read good reviews about. It was before 11 in the morning, so we were the only customers. That changed soon enough right after we sat down to eat on one of the picnic tables on the farside of the big parking lot. My husband was in search of authentic lau lau and finally found this location. It has a good sized parking lot and several picnic tables under a tree with views of the valley and ocean. Been coming here for years. Still love the food. My favorite dish is still the Shoyu chicken. It's fall off the bone Shoyu chicken comes with rice, macaroni salad and corn. It's an amazing plate lunch. Some things that have changed there is that it is walk up window instead of going inside. These days I've been getting the "mini" version which only comes with one side and rice but still really filling. My new favorite item is the Kimchi Mein. It's a delicious bowl of ramen with kimchi. Due to plane delays from on both ends of our trip we left the rental car facility and thought we'd be out of luck since they close at 2 pm. It's time to update my review of this place called - "Waikapu On 30" gang, as it's been 4.5 years since I last came here. I guess the main reason why I didn't come back to "Waikapu On 30" is because the last time I ate a plate lunch here, I was totally grossed out by how much oil was swimming at the bottom of my Styrofoam food container! AIYAH! Well yesterday I made a return visit, and I am so happy to report back that the Shoyu Chicken plate I ate was as SPECTACULAR as the 1st time I had it, minus all the oil! Lol! Big PROPS to this business for switching over & using an environmental friendly food container too. I loved how they do their Shoyu Chicken here..........as they use a high quality dark shoyu, and you can tell that they stewed it for a very long time as the chicken meat easily falls off the bone. The ginger that they used in the shoyu sauce only enhances the taste of the Shoyu Chicken! YUM!!! The menu here is pretty simple as they don't offer an array of items........in fact they only serve (4) standard items until it's gone. The standards are - 1. Shoyu Chicken 2. Baked Chicken 3. Hamburger Steak 4. Pork Lau Lau 5. And the 5th food item is "rotated" depending on what day you come here, as it could be - Meatloaf, Hamburger Curry, Luau Stew, Pot Roast Pork, Beef Stew, or a Catch of the Day (fish)........just check on what day you're coming here. This place felt the most authentically "Hawaiian" of anywhere I went on Maui. Why? Not touristy: It's on the side the road and not well-marked. Blink and you'll miss it. Food is all very much comfort food and all very much classically Hawaiian. Family run: there was a kid at a high chair behind they counter when I went! This is a great place to get food to take to the beach. Lots of classic plate lunches. Massive portions and great prices. It comes out FAST.
