Though the food prices were decent, the flavor of the dishes were just lacking and bland. The plates are fairly small in size and, and just right for it's price, the dishes just felt it's quickly made by the kitchen without any kind of love or thought. The diner was not crowded on the day of my visit nor were there a lot of orders. Food just did not feel satisfying, along with panhandlers walking back and forth asking for money. The overall dine-in experience was lackluster. Was able to finish up all the food I ordered, paid for my meal and left.
Seeing so many people inside when I walked by, my husband and I decided to give them a try. We tried the fried chicken wings, ham and chicken baked rice in white sauce, and the black pepper chicken over rice. We were not fans of the chicken wings. Maybe its the type of seasoning they used, but we thought it was kind of smelly. I couldn't get myself to finish it. The baked rice was a little bland but still OK. I managed to finish it all. Just that dish alone, I'd probably give a 3 star rating. We were actually trying to order the black pepper porkchop, but the girl taking our order couldn't find it and gave us the chicken instead. This was so-so, and my husband barely managed to finish half of it. I personally prefer hk tea and sushi for both the wings and the baked rice. There wasn't anything that we tried that would entice us to come back again.

Hard to get completely vegan dishes not because they would accommodate because they were more than happy to do so. But I was trying to find dishes that were genuinely vegan. I had the hairy Melon with fermented bean curd. Loved it & it was the only thing vegan on the menu. But It was not pretty and could be texturally challenging to some.
DO NOT EAT HERE. I live right next door and I see how they handle their food and garbage. Look at this picture I took at 6:00 AM, bean sprouts bagged on the floor outside. Please try and justify why that would be outside on the floor next to the kitchen door, next to a can on the floor where they leave their cigarettes. If you love your family do not eat here. They are disgusting.
I really like eating at this Hong Kong cafe with simple to no atmosphere, but simple tables and lighting. You definitely don't come here expecting a romantic date, instead a happy stomach. Everything we had are tasty. Stir fried rice and noodles seem to always have a bit of wok air. The Ho fun soup had a huge portion of chicken and nicely seared. I was a bit disappointed with their chicken with salted fish fried rice, they used to come with pieces of lettuces which added a nice crunch to it, however, it's gone. The beef chow Ho fun is standardly delicious, hearty and chewy. The Hong Kong milk tea is refreshing and a bit stronger than your normal milk tea. Service is quick and to the point and pretty helpful if you need explanation. It was lunch time on a Sunday afternoon and it got crowded around 12pm. Parking can be difficult, try to stay away from 86th st and go down to the residential area.
Not sure what I like more - the deliciously comfortable food, or the unbeatable prices that has *only* started to increase. They actually didn't hike up the prices during the covid pandemic like other restaurants (very, very understandable of course), it was recent (about three months ago) that they did. Still, to be able to get a container of a (super saucy) lamb and bean curd casserole for ~$11? Preeeetty unheard of. Not just that, but the oxtail casserole, black pepper short ribs, and fish fillet dishes as well. The classics that you'll find anywhere, but I keep coming back to here for those cravings just because of the unbeatable prices and the flavors that I'm used to. Must get is the oxtail - it's sooooo tender. They've definitely braised it for a long time, and the seasoning has been infused well. Only thing I didn't really enjoy was the salt and pepper pork chops (too dry for me, and I'm used to a thicker cut). I keep meaning to try the cheesy baked rice dishes to compare with Chinatown's XO Kitchen, but every time I stop by, the entrees call my name instead. Next time! They have some that are unique to them, like oxtail and beef stew.

We were craving for this and not many restaurants make it anymore. Definitely doesn't taste like what we expected it to. -Fried wontons: this was surprisingly very good! Probably the best dish we got. The skin was very crispy and the meat was delicious! There was 8 pieces for $4.50 and we wanted more when we were done! -Chicken sandwich: the bread tasted very stale but the chicken was decent. -Pan fried beef steak salad: the steak was very dry and hard but the fruit salad it came with was delicious! -Wonton noodle soup: the soup was very bland but the wontons were good. -Fish fillet with bean curd over rice: this was decent but wasn't the best. Definitely had better elsewhere. -Satay beef chow fun: this was an interesting dish. It was cooked with a lot of onions, green peppers and pineapples. It didn't have that satay beef taste I was expecting. There was only a handful of noodles at the bottom of the dish as well. -Bean stick with beef stew: this was alright. The portion was pretty small and not enough beef for the price paid. We paid $13.50 for this entree and only half the container was packed. At the bottom of the dish there was a bunch of lettuce as well. Felt ripped off from this dish. Overall we had a mediocre experience. There aren't much restaurants like these around anymore so we settled for what we can get.

I could never finish it in one sitting, not to mention how the dishes aren't expensively priced. I'm surprised it has a 3.5 rating! It's definitely not as popular as the other hong kong styled restaraunt's on 86th street but still. This time I got the baked spaghetti fish fillet with sweet corn sauce and fried bread (mini bun). For all the non asians here, the fried bread is basically fried mantou. You get condensed milk as dipping sauce, so the product is a sweet appetizer. This place makes pretty decent ones. It has room for improvement but it's tasty the way it is now as well. The BEST ones i've had would be from the hong kong style restaraunt's (cha cha tangs) on Mott Street in Chinatown. You can really taste the textured layers and layers of flavors in the fried mantou. I think I was expecting a big proportion in terms of the takeout for the baked dish too. However, it wasn't as big as I thought. I'm not complaining though because I still wasn't able to finish it. I definitely do think that the dishes are bigger if you dine-in. The taste for this baked dish was pretty average, nothing special. It does it's job. It's the same as HK tea & sushi or kowloon cafe. I do want to note that they have a big menu and the other hong kong styled restaraunts in my area are NOT on seamless. Because of their online online feature, i'd most likely order from here again. They have so many dishes and drinks available. I think next time i'd want to try the cold motocha with yogurt house special.
Ting Gain is a casual appearing restaurant that serves flavorful Cantonese food. The Young Chow Fried rice is delicious and the eggs are whipped deliciously. The Chicken steaks and Pork chops are pan fried with a nice crisp taste.
Wow... I've been eating at Ting Fai before it was even Ting Fai... (anyone remembers the steakhouse?). Can't believe I never yelped them a review. This is a local joint, really caters to everyone throughout the day. Opens up for the lunch crowd around 11:30am, then they have that money-saver "tea time" special running from 2-6; great value! And then dinner crowd starts to flow in around 6:30-7pm. Their menu is vast (tho they got rid of those ridiculous roast meat items because again, this hood is pretty much a miniature Chinatown with lots of roast meat places - Han Wong, Kings Kitchen, new pop up ones a block away and right next door)- goes from the typical fried noodles, rice, baked dishes, and loads more. I feel like Ting Fai offers a bit more variety than HK Tea & Sushi; when you're looking for Cha Chan Tang eats. The food is pretty decent, as long as you stick with what you know; oxtail is good (baked), fried pork cutlet, curry pork chop - some noodle dishes are a hit/miss... so roll the dice on that one. Their portions are good size. My kids love their curry dishes and I am a huge fan of their HK Milk Tea! One of the best ones I've tasted! My friends and I got hungry, so we decided to stop by here to eat. The interior is very run down but there's a lot of space for big parties. The food tasted pretty good and you get your money's worth by ordering their combos. I got the black pepper chicken combo with spaghetti, corn soup and milk tea. The total was about $15-17 for everything, which is worth it in my opinion. They were not cheap with the chicken and gave you a big portion! I could not finish everything even though I was really hungry. You can definitely share a combo with a girlfriend. The spaghetti was a little bland but it wasn't bad. The corn soup wasn't salty, it was very creamy and I liked it. The milk tea was also a nice addition! The reason I'm giving them a 4 star is for their service. My friend ordered a soup but the order never came. When my friend asked about it, the waiters had trouble understanding and brought the wrong order again. When asked about it, the waiters seemed very confused again even though she explained she wanted soup in both English and Chinese. The waiters were always looking down on their phone even though customers were standing there waiting to pay or came to pick up their food. I would come back again, but I hope that their waiters will be more attentive to their customers.
I really hate giving 2- or 1-star ratings but it really ruins the appetite when you see a medium-sized cockroach as you're eating. While I'm thankful it wasn't inside my food, having it creep up from the wall 2-feet away from me isn't that much better. I understand that it's hard to get rid of all rodents and insects from restaurants, but seeing one in the vicinity of patrons is alarming as it should be one of the cleaner areas of the restaurant. Not only that, the way the waitress handled it was subpar. She came by to take a look after we told her there was a cockroach, my dad killed it with a napkin and said it's okay, she didn't say anything and walked away. I would expect an apology of some sort or a pardon would've been okay, but not saying anything at all is irresponsible. It was also my family's first time trying the lunch specials they offer here. There are different dishes to choose from for each day of the week for $5.75 including a drink. My family and I ordered one of each dish on the Wednesday menu. Everything was pretty standard. Not sure whether they are freshly made or not, but I enjoyed my wontons in my wonton noodle soup. However, the beef in the curry beef over rice was so flavorless and bland, even the curry couldn't help it. The chicken with pineapple fried rice had only very little tiny pieces of pineapple in it. Also, the hot milk tea that comes with the lunch special is just powdered milk tea. All in all, food is just okay for the decent price, and the crawly visitor didn't help with the appetite. Personally, I wouldn't want to come back to eat in, but my family may still order takeout from here as usual.
I think out of all the Hong Kong style spots in the neighborhood, there are definitely shinier and more modern looking ones since this place is more low key and usually less packed, but do not let that fool you. They have all the standard Hong Kong cafe fare, but at cheaper prices and with much bigger portion sizes. I dropped by after the gym for a protein heavy post workout meal and got their beef steak over rice for ten dollars, which would normally cost thirteen dollars or more at other spots, and the steak portions there would probably be smaller too. Since the place is generally smaller and less busy, the food also comes out much quicker. Highly recommend if you are tight on time and just want a quick bite. read more
A very quiet restaurant with only 2 other tables when we entered. We originally wanted to go to Farmer's table but it was too crowded so we gave this place a try. A family member (in law) is visting from Hong Kong so we wanted a family dinner. Ordered a few dishes family style and food was good. Hot, fast and decent. Good service and able to accommodate our large party size (there was 9 of us plus a squirming child that kept going under table and running around). Party of 9 for good amount of food and total was $125 (before tips). Food is great is really good I am Chinese and I really enjoy the food 100% must try. The Service is amazing they do a great job with service and the food gets do fast but is also hot and good. The place is amazing is new and clean. read more

I had been getting food from them since two years ago and I had been their loyal customers throughout. They have great prices and used to have good quality of food. It was maybe until mid-2020 that their food quality dropped. I continued to be a loyal customer even though the food didn't taste as good as before due to it's great price. However, everything changed when I found a dead cockroach inside my fried rice recently. I was so shocked to a point to want to vomit because I already ate most of the fried rice. I'm not sure what germs I have just consumed. I cannot stop to think how dirty their kitchen can be to cook my fried rice with a roach without their notice. Now that I think about the place, the image of the dead roach in the fried rice always pop-up in my mind. read more

My fiancee mom know the boss. So we decided to stop by and try the foods. The place is spacious. Staff is friendly. We order a couple of dishes and came pretty fast. The foods was delicious. I will probably come back here again. read more

I ordered the shrimp with melon noodle pot, and I paid $13 for such a small serving. It's the same size with the other food that's under $10. The container isn't even full. It's such a ripoff. How do they charge this for $13? read more
Thanks to Kenny C's review, we decided to take the leap last Friday and give this place a try. As Kenny mentioned prior, from the outside, the overall environment looked inviting with the dark wooden booths; the last reminisce of the steakhouse that was there prior. We entered the restaurant and motioned that we wanted to sit in one of these booths, and we did. The booth was very comfortable, and we had plenty of room if we were a party of four. The service staff was pretty attentive for a Chinese restaurant (in comparison to what I'm used to in Chinatown) and we got waters in plastic cups. I guess we needed to ask for tea, but we never did. For starters, again, thanks to Kenny, we had the curry fish balls - these are delicious! The curry they were submerged in had a great Indian flavor to them, and there were about a good eight or so balls in the plate; excellent choice to start. The menu for the entrees was tough to decide on, since there was a lot of options, but I opted for the grilled eel over rice, and my other half got beef chow fun. The turnaround time from the time the order was placed until we got the plates in front of us was quick for 7PM at night on a Friday; and we weren't the only ones in the place! The grilled eel was the freshest I've ever had anywhere, and the eel sauce was delicately drizzled over the eel and the bed of white rice. The beef chow fun was good! The onions blended well into the noodles that you couldn't tell which was which; my babe loved this and I agreed. The portions were American big, and I honestly didn't mind at that point, since we were starving. Really great food; we look forward to working through the menu soon! read more

Local Brooklyn Hongkongese style restaurant. While it's only delivery and pick up during this pandemic, this place does a great job with stapling the order's details and secure the delivery bag well. The taste for this place is authentic and the portion is actually bigger than it looks. Definitely will come back again! read more

I am a regular here but when I went inside the restuarant this morning the 3 workers completely ignored me for more than 5 minutes. There were four other people that came in and they were all ignored too. They didn't say hi, didn't ask what we wanted from the menu, and didn't ask if we had to pick up food. Besides that, the baked salmon rice was really good and the baked minced beef spaghetti was alright. read more
Stopped by for lunch and it was ok I guess...My party of 3 arrived at around 12 and there were very few people eating inside but it did get busier later on. The atmosphere gave off really weird vibes in my opinion. The decor is kind of dreary and didn't really fit the style of typical Westernized Cantonese restaurants. We chose to sit in one of the elevated booths but the path to get in was so narrow! Even if you're like 1 pound overweight you would have a difficult time squeezing into one of the booths! I would say the service was less than average. They weren't exactly nice and I almost had to flag one of the waiters down for more water since it was really hot in there and the AC must've been set on "super low" or something lol... Baked Portuguese chicken over rice- The dish that I use to judge these types of Cantonese restaurants and this one was just meh. It wasn't really flavorful and some of the rice was overcooked. I wasn't really a fan of the chicken either since it was flavorless. The 1-2 pieces of potatoes in the entire dish were too mushy and weren't baked properly. M Star Cafe in Chinatown still wins! Fried rice- Ehh it was alrightt. I didn't like the ham that they use since it tasted like spam. I've definitely had better fried rice elsewhere. Baked pork cutlet over spaghetti with white sauce- This looked kind of unappetizing when it arrived but it ended up being really tasty! The pork cutlet was delicious and the spaghetti tasted great with the white sauce! There are at least 10 Cantonese restaurants within a 5 block radius from Ting Fai on 86th Street and I would recommend going to one of those instead. While this one wasn't horrible, it didn't meet my expectations or stand out enough to have me wanting to come back. read more
Food is just ok. Not delicious, nor does it taste bad. It's just ok. Ordered the wonton noodles. It was ok, nothing special. Sister had the sirloin steak with garlic combo which comes with spaghetti, soup, fries, and a coffee/tea. The steak was covered in some kind of garlic sauce which was just alright. Not exactly in love with it. I probably would've preferred it without the sauce. The cut of meat itself was ok. Had the baked mussels appetizer which was pretty delicious. It was cheesy and it had mashed potatoes too. Overall, it was an OK meal. read more

This restaurant has changed names and possibly owners too many times over the last decade. It's Hong Kong style food, menu hasn't changed significantly and the food is average and affordable. It's not bad at all. I had the curry fish fillet and a vegetable dish. Curry is good here, they give you decent size portions. There is a good Amount of seating here. Service is decent. I'm a fan of this place, good cheap Chinese food. Parking can be quite difficult to find around here, might need to feed the meter. read more
