Tinker Street, there are not enough adjectives to describe the experience and flavor that this cozy restaurant employs. As you arrive, you are welcomed with a delightful tasting of champagne to begin a spectacular dining experience. Of course I reviewed the menu extensively before arriving, my only question was a wine pairing. Our server was thoughtful about choosing a wine that would pair well with mine and my friends entrees. They kept the wine chilled and never let our glasses go empty. For my main course I chose shrimp and grits. The best chefs season every item individually, and at Tinker Street the flavor sensation is phenomenal. Tinkers special touch on shrimp and grits was the perfect amount of spice that has you craving the next bite. The thick cut ham adds to this rich comfort foods savory flavor. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I found this place after visiting Indianapolis and it is fairly good! The duck was tender and soft and had good flavor. The line however was fairly long and the prices are fairly expensive but they do give you a free champagne drink! A hidden gem in the Indianapolis area, some of the best food I have had in a while. Me and my friend got the old fashion to start off, it was refreshing and set a good tone for the dinner ahead. For appetizers, we got the Korean fried chicken and waffles and the oysters, both the dishes were amazing had tremendous amount of flavor. Especially the oysters, the taste was something I have not tasted in a long time. For our entrees, my friend got the Sakura Pork Belly and I got the Shrimp & Grits, again both the dishes tasted excellent, the pork belly was succulent and the shrimp and grits was the definition of great comfort food. For dessert we got the Paris-Brest, it wasn't as good as the dinner but we were so mesmerized by the other dishes we really weren't effected by the mediocre dessert. The thing I love most about this place is that the service is impeccable. Add the fresh and delicious food, the wine list, and the very knowledgeable wait/bar staff, and you have 4-5 star quality for an affordable price. It feels like you're dining in San Francisco. Their menu has been different every time I've been, so don't get too attached to a dish. Let the wait staff describe the dishes and make recommendations. I get the sense that they do a lot of tasting in the kitchen based on their knowledge and passion about the food. Also... take your time. What a fun dining experience! There's something about the complimentary Prosecco tasting as soon as you're seated to kick the meal off on a fun and interactive foot. Our waiter also had a large part in making our experience both fun and comfortable. We opted for the Indiana cheese board (again, again!!!) that featured goat cheese rolled in vegetable ash, Tulip Tree Creamery, Ludwig, honeycomb, rhubarb jam, Amelia's bread and apricot preserves. I would visit for wine and the cheese board alone. Our visit continued with carrots paired with lavender yogurt and a spinach/Thai basil salad (the pairing of the cold basil/spinach didn't do it for me but I did appreciate the marcona almonds). Last but not least, the wine stewardess offered great recommendations. Next time, we'll save room for dessert. Stopped in here for dinner recently and I can't believe I hadn't been in before! I'm a big fan of restaurants that update and change their menus every so often, especially when they incorporate seasonal ingredients. The fall menu has a ton of delicious options right now. We started out with a couple of appetizers, including the Mushroom Bruschetta and the Brussel Sprouts. I highly recommend trying the Mushroom Bruschetta, it was definitely my favorite. It's made of Shamrock Farm's mushrooms, sweet corn, arugula, black garlic aioli, and truffled golden syrup. I loved seeing all the autumn ingredients on the entree list, as well as how clearly the items are marked gluten-free, vegan, etc. with the ability to add on a protein option. Quite a few of us chose the Pumpkin Gnocchi for dinner, and it didn't disappoint. It's made up of pumpkin pesto, pumpkin puree, pumpkin seed oil, brown butter, sage and parmesan. Our server recommended to top it off with their sirloin and I'm so glad I did! For dessert I was torn between trying the Apple Dutch Baby, and the Pumpkin Creme Brulee. I went with the Apple Dutch Baby, which was made up of honeycrisp apples, ginger, salted caramel, and topped with whipped cream and thyme. They had so many great fall options that I honestly could have tried them all. Tinker Street's ambiance is the perfect spot for an intimate date night, or a quiet get together with a group of friends. They also have a patio that has been completely transformed and heated to cater the cooler seasons. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the fall menu, and everything about Tinker Street in general. This is one of those dining experiences where you look at the reviews on Yelp (4.5 stars! Almost 320 reviews!), and then you look back at what you experienced, and then you check the Yelp reviews again, and then you scratch your head and wonder what went wrong. Our dinner started out wonderfully. We don't get very many kid-free evenings out alone, but the stars aligned and we were able to enjoy a meal without children. We decided to try Tinker Street because it got so many good reviews, and it served small plates of delicious and well-thought-out food, and most importantly: children are not allowed here. (Tinker Street is 21 and over, fyi.) We ordered local beers and sipped them at our table out-of-doors while watching the honey bees pollinate the flowers by our table. Then they gave us a free taster of sparkling white wine. Sweet! This place rocks, we thought. We ordered the steam buns as an appetizer. One of the buns was cold on the bottom, as though it had been frozen and not warmed up properly. OK, fine. The filling (mushrooms, kimchi, pickles) tasted super delicious, so we overlooked this strange and disappointing oversight. Then we ordered our meals. We got the mussels in green curry sauce, and the chicken with tabbouleh. Our food came quickly and was well-presented. It tasted great. Let me just break right here and mention that, along with our server, there were two other random people coming up to our table asking if we needed anything, how things tasted, etc. No one seemed to be on the same page (each person would ask us if we needed the same things over and over), but each person was attentive, so we overlooked it. We finished our meals. Yum! Great flavors! Then a woman -- one of the random people coming to our table who wasn't our server -- asked my husband if he wanted bread to sop up the remaining curry sauce on his plate. Her actual words were: "Would you like some extra bread to sop up that sauce?" And he said yes because ... because you always say yes to more bread. But before they could bring him his bread, a random man came and took away his plate. OK, fine. He was done anyway. Then another man came to our table with a plate of bread, and our server stopped him and asked him what he was doing. It turns out the "bread to sop up his sauce" was an additional charge, which the random woman didn't let us know about. At this point you're rolling your eyes and going, "Uh, duh -- why would you expect to get something for free?" But, you see, the random woman didn't tell us about the charge -- she made it out as though she was just bringing by a couple more pieces of bread. And then they brought the bread (a big platter of bread) by our table after they picked up the plate, and then removed the bread before we could even eat it ... it was all just a clusterfark and they knew it, because our server offered us free dessert for their screw-up. But we declined the free dessert because we just wanted to get the eff out of there by this point. And I love dessert, so for me to decline it ... well, you have to know that I really wanted to get out of there. The disorganization of the restaurant and staff really soured our experience. The servers and all of the random people working here really need to get on the same page. Maybe another visit would change this review from barely three stars to four, but I don't see myself coming here again anytime soon, so we'll see. read more

After living near Tinker Street for almost 2 years, we finally got to experience this bungalow-sized culinary temple. The hostesses were warm and welcoming, giving a great start to the night. Once seated, we were presented a toast of champagne (on the house), further heightening the experience. When presenting the menu, our waitress Khloe made sure that each special was detailed and all of our questions were answered. The service was setting the stage, but the food stole the show. The stuffed squash flower was the star of the appetizers, with the mushroom dumpling special being a great sidekick. The main courses brought another level of a deliciousness, with the pork belly and sweet corn ravioli leave us both smiling. Finally, they saved the best for last with their Ricotta Donuts with banana's foster ice cream and crystallized peanuts. If you've never had ricotta donuts, YOU HAVE TO ORDER THESE. Sweet, delicate, and delicious balls of goodness that had us floating through the end of the meal. All through our dinner, the drinks were fantastic as well. Sure - they don't take reservations - but they accomodate the best way they can and they are so NICE when you have any questions. Sure - the parking lot is a it small - but street parking is a plenty (I'm a bit spoiled as I live close by). But overall - this is one of the best establishments in Indy. From the ambiance to all of the staff - they are top notch. I worked with Tinker Street recently to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday and they were quick at communicating and so overly helpful. I felt as if I was part of the family there with how well I was treated! And the food! The food is delicious - from the warm cheese plates to the duck to the famous shrimp and grits. The tables are close, and it's a bit noisy for someone like me with hearing loss, but I would never let that factor outweigh the chance to experience the great food and service. Ever since Tinker Street opened this past winter, it's topped the "Best of Yelp" lists. Yesterday it was ranked as the #01 destination to eat by TripAdvisor. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to check out this all-around loved food destination. I think everyone in town had the same idea, because Tinker Street was JAMMED from our 7:30 arrival to our 9:30 departure (we later found out that it had been that way since 5:30). Peter immediately greeted us, took our names, and we hung out outside of the restaurant for about 30 minutes. Soon after, someone came to take our drink order, and we were able to knock back two beers while waiting for our table. Although we couldn't be seated immediately, I was appreciative of the fact that we were still treated as patrons before being seated. I was already in favor of this spot. Once we did take our seats, Prosecco was poured as a welcome. I thought of it as a nice touch. Seeing that we had already studied and deliberated over the menu, we promptly ordered the local greens, squash pad thai, spring lamb, and s'more pot de creme. It didn't take long before the greens and the pad thai came out. The colors of both dishes were so vibrant, and presentation was beautiful. We dug in right away to mouthfuls of crisp veg and fresh flavors of arugula, eggplant, raspberry, cilantro...summer was upon us for sure. We were 2/2 in our food choices so far. Just as we were about to order a second round of those "botanical" dishes...out came our lamb. GIMMA. I almost snatched the plate from the waiter, as the aroma had me entranced. "Please let this taste as wonderful as it smells." I speared the first piece with my fork, crossed my fingers, and took a bite. I swooned. What a gorgeous cut of perfectly-cooked meat further enhanced by the chard, fennel, sorghum, and oregano vinaigrette. We were now 3/3 in our food choices. Would we have a perfect score with the s'more pot de creme? You betcha. Fluffy marshmallow, creamy chocolate, powdery ash...it was a s'mores from the campfire on a spoon. How I wished I had packed my mini spatula, because my spoon couldn't lap up every last lick of chocolate. If it were up to me, I would have eaten a kitchen sink's worth of that dessert it was so exquisite. 4/4! To sum it all up: our meal, start to finish, was impeccable. Now I see why it's #01 on TripAdvisor, and it's definitely a top pick of mine too. In fact, I've already planned out my next meal at Tinker Street, and I am eager for another 5-star meal. read more

I went to Tinker Street with a friend several weeks ago. We were both excited to give it a try, but we both left feeling a little "meh" thanks to the service we encountered. I felt like it was a bother for him to refill our water glasses, and we could hear him complaining to another employee about some of the customers who were there. The recommendations were the top priced menu items, and questions we asked about ingredients were answered with "it's the same stuff that was on your appetizer". I'm glad that another friend wanted to try it a few weeks later. Back I went, this time with a different server. I ordered the same pork belly main course and the same dessert and had an experience that was 100 times better. The food was consistently the same.. delicious and well presented. I ate every bite of my main course both times, and between the two visits ate my share of the mushroom bruschetta and cheese board. The food is amazingly awesome! If you visit, get there early. I made my reservations for a Friday night about 4-5 days in advance on the Yelp app. At that point there was only 5:45 or earlier and 8:30 or later as options. So definitely plan to eat here in advance! The menu was small but mighty! We each got a cocktail that was absolutely delicious! I got the seasonal shake up which was like a boozy lemonade shake up from the state fair with a hint of orange. My friend got the Big Love which was a Smokey tequila drink. Both were around $10. For appetizers we got the mushroom dumplings and the peach and beer buratta. Amazing! The dumplings were a special but the buratta is always on the menu. For a main course, I got the pork belly and my friend got the shrimp and grits. The pork belly was SO GOOD. Due to dietary restrictions I was able to swap the rice for carrots. It had the same ginger glaze as the dumplings. *chef kiss* Our waitress was 10/10. She was so interpersonal and cute! She had lots of recommendations for our first time. They won't seat you until your party is there. I got offered water 4 times before I broke down and accepted. We skipped the appetizers and went straight for main course. I got the prawns and grits. When you get this do t expect southern style shrimp and grits. Not to say that these weren't good but portion size is smaller than what I'm used to needless to say, I was hungry. This is one of my favorite places to bring out of town guests who enjoy interesting food! My parents were in town, and we had a great meal here last weekend. We arrived promptly at 5PM to be sure we didn't have to wait for a table. Yes, this is a very early dinner, but by about 5:30 there were only a few tables left and by the time we were leaving there was a decent crowd waiting. So...if you can handle an early dinner...arriving by 5:30/5:45 seems to be the way to go if you don't want to wait! We shared a smoked meat assortment that was delicious! Smoked duck, Arctic char, and a pork fig tureen along with various pickled veggies and Amelia's bread. We all had beet salads which were excellent. I had the skate wing for my entree and it was wonderful! Sweet, reminiscent of shellfish, and cooked perfectly. My parents had the Arctic char and the pork belly entrees and they enjoyed their meals as well! We all had dessert; I chose the grapefruit pound cake which was moist and delicious. But have to say when we asked for recommendations, I had a hard time catching what the waitress is saying coz she talks like so fast...
