I needed a low bean headlight before I could get my sticker. The inspection guy told me that. Low beam headlight, that is. The lady at Auto Zone sent me down the street to Tino's with the headlight. She stood in the parking lot and pointed a few doors down, saying Tino will take care of you. I was thinking as I drove a couple of doors down that I'd make an appointment, and I should have my sticker in a few days. But no, I was greeted with a smile and was told to have a seat. A few minutes later, the nicest man popped around the corner and said go back to Auto Zone; this is the wrong headlight, adding, get the cheapest one. It was Tino; it was like talking to my brother. If you are a single mom, don't go here. I went in on the recommendation of a neighbor for a light on. I was told I needed a new alternator and battery. I was charged $1637.00 which I paid. Then when I looked at my receipt I was charged $50.00 more. My light that I came in for I was told, "you will need to take that to the dealer, we couldn't turn that off." That was the whole reason I came in. I asked to speak to Tino and was told he would call me, which he never did! Not to mention they kept my 6 month old battery. They told me I could come get it but they were Closed on weekends. If you are a single woman...stay away. They smile in your face and fix things they know we don't know about!! Out of almost $1700.00 and not even a call from the owner! I have two college kids and their dad died this summer...sad I'm getting treated this way but I'm warning. Horrible, dishonest person. I had a brake job done there. Paid cash. As soon as I left, the hood flew up and smashed my front window. If Tino's is selling you a car, it's probably pretty solid. Had a good friend of mine travel from South Florida to buy a Classic 1974 Datsun 260z from these guys. They were fair, reasonable, and accommodated everything we needed to do to make the deal happen. They had made sure the car was mechanically sound, did the work to get it running good and safe. They were honest with their description and we felt very happy with the deal we made. I normally don't praise out of state businesses, however this mechanic shop should get some recognition for being ethical, honest, and competent in their work. Then just last week I needed to get spark plugs and ignition coils replaced, so I decided to go back and this time I went about 9 am on Monday. I told them my issue, he made a phone call and came back with a price of $450! He never looked at my car or anything... Brought my car in yesterday. I knew it was having huge suspension issues. I was immediately greeted by a very nice girl at the front counter while several gentleman stood talking in a group. ( I had heard about this place from several close friends and needed some honest mechanic work) I talked to the young lady and told her that another shop had giving me a really high estimate ($1800.00) for the job and several days to do the job. One of the men in the group stepped out his conversation and introduced himself as Tino. He said it was his shop and that he would have his mechanic look at the car, and that estimate sounded a bit high. As I waited for the mechanics to look at the car I noticed that the group of people talking were all very friendly and seemed close. More to come. Well the guys finished looking at my car and Tino came to talk to me. He explained exactly what the problems were and gave me an estimate that was nearly half the other shop's price! I asked him how long it would take and he said they could start on it tomorrow if I wanted and would be done the same day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I decided to leave my car with him and have my friend pick me up. I struck up a conversation with the group of people. As it turned out they were all his customers, and were long time customers. Which really shocked me. Here was a group of customers that were all on a really friendly and familiar basis with their mechanic? Wow, just wow. Some had known him and been customers for the past 15 years. So Tino called me the next day and told me my car was ready. I went to pick it up and it has run like a champ since! I was first referred to Tino's 5 or 6 years ago by my mom when I use to live on the north side. My mom is not easily impressed. I've lived in midtown some years and I still make the long drive to go to Tino's. It's totally worth going the distance for honest, professional and reasonably priced service. There were times that I've gone to other auto shops closer out of convenience and each time I've regretted it because Tino set such a high standard. Recently, I've taken my car to Tino's for service, after making along drive through a storm, because after shopping around for quotes Tino's beat everyone else by far. Tino is always honest in telling if I don't need to make a repair (when other mechanics said I did), but also honest in recommending maintenance repairs that others over looked. If you're not a car expert, like myself, I would highly recommend this place. Tino and his staff truly car about their customers and they won't try to sell you on services that you don't need just to make a sale. If you're a car Guru I would highly recommend this place. My husband has a couple of vehicles but since I don't drive a standard, I needed my Sequoia back as soon as possible.
