I went to Tiny Jewel Box for an engagement ring and was very happy with the end result. My fiancé had a very old and unique ring that she wanted to use as an engagement ring. However, the ring was fragile and it wasn't possible to resize. On the recommendation of a friend, I went to Tiny Jewel Box. Alicia, a designer at Tiny Jewel Box, was able to recreate the ring on a new platinum band, sized perfectly for my fiancé. The original design was very intricate and Alicia put together an amazing new ring that looks nearly identical to the design of the original, and then transferred the original stones to the new ring. The ring is a perfect update of a valued heirloom. I can't say enough good things about the technical skill and artistic talent that went into the ring. The ring is one of a kind and my fiancé was stunned when she saw it. The customer service at Tiny Jewel Box was also really great. Knowing nothing about jewelry, I was a bit intimidated at the process. Richard explained why the ring couldn't be resized and helped me understand my options. He definitely helped me feel at ease with the process. And Alicia did a great job laying out what the new ring would entail, and keeping me up-to-date on the ring's progress. This place doesn't even warrant a star. Their selection is horrible, it's just as their name implies.....TINY. No selection of wedding bands whatsoever! The sales staff is unhelpful and rude. The security guard actually had to get one of the sales rep's attention for me and my fiance! I purchased my wife's engagement ring from TJB, as well as both of our wedding bands a year later. I loved working with everyone at the store, particularly Alicia, who helped design and create two custom rings (the engagement ring + my wedding band). Alicia is just marvelous. For the engagement ring, I had a pretty good idea what we wanted, and Alicia helped tweak the design, giving me all sorts of options, and coming up with the little details that made the ring perfect (rotating the prongs that held the diamond just so, for example). For my engagement ring, I had a much looser idea (I knew I wanted a braid but not much else) -- Alicia came up with a design, I tweaked it a little, made a wax model of the tweaked design, and decided I liked Alicia's original design the best (which is the ring I have now and I absolutely LOVE). We also loved using TJB for my wife's ring, a non-custom band that the store had on hand and was exactly what we were looking for. The rings were expensive but didn't break the bank, we got what we paid for! I never felt like the prices were inflated, just that they were extremely high quality! The jewelry is beautiful and the service is wonderful. They were incredibly patient while my fiancee tried on every wedding ring in the store multiple times and let me try on some seriously fancy rings even though I already have my engagement and wedding rings. We comparison shopped online quite a bit and found that while the prices are a little higher at TJB, the quality is, too - definitely worth getting a much nicer ring for a little more money. What a great experience I had engagement ring shopping here! Surprisingly competitive price wise for a DC jewelry shop and top notch quality. I initially discounted this store when my fiance and I started looking for engagment rings since I thought it looked too high end, similar to Tiffany's. I looked "all" over our area and on round 2, was surprised to find the experience and quality at Tiny Jewelry Box was at the higher end -- and the diamond prices were competitive with wholesalers in our area. I cannot say enough good things about Maggie who is extremely knowledgeable and honest about diamonds. What I liked most is that she showed us the GIA certificates up front for the diamonds we were looking at, and explained what really makes a difference and trade offs between color, cut and clarity (I was deciding between a better clarity diamond vs. a better cut. She helped us understand the differences for the level we were looking at.) Her experience is really invaluable. My setting is a traditional platinum solitaire (six prong), but the it was made at the store and the quality was apparent compared to the other settings I saw in the catalogs. And for the guys if you are bringing your fiance with you, this is truly a wonderful experience. They take time to help you and the whole crew in the store were really friendly! I don't give a lot of reviews and am normally pretty tough on places but TJB gets 5 stars from me! read more

My fiance and I were looking for wedding rings. We went to all the big name stores but the associates there were dismissive because we indicated we weren't incredibly wealthy. We had low expectations at TJB because of this, but the head manager was very attentive to us and we were treated very well. This is not a place that you would go if you're looking for a bargain, but the experience pretty much made up for that. They were very patient with all of our questions, and worked with me to custom design my wedding ring with an artist that they work with. When it came in and there was a mistake on the ring, the manager and sales associate called many times to apologize and check in. The corrected ring came in shortly thereafter, and I can't wait to wear it. Extremely happy with the customer service here and the ring. read more

I've been in this store twice. The first time was a couple years ago to have a ring re-sized, and the second time was just last week to have that same ring, as well as another one, cleaned. Both times, I was really impressed with the quality of service I received. The staff is very professional, but friendly, and while I'm sure they could tell I wasn't going to buy a $5,000 ring, they still treated me very nicely nonetheless. Not too sure how their pricing compares to other places, but I paid more than one hundred dollars for the ring to be re-sized. They didn't charge me anything for cleaning my rings, though. Just had a watch band resized - they were very fast and couldn't be more helpful.

I decided to get engaged for Christmas but the thought of going to the cookie cutter jewelry stores (Kay Jewelers, Jared) just did not appeal to me. The Tiny Jewel Box always intrigued me because it is a small family business with a stellar reputation that has survived for many decades in downtown DC where most small businesses were either pushed out or bought out by government or big corporations. I stopped by on a lunch break in early December with no intention of buying, just wanting to browse and get some ideas. Sales Representative Brian Ehteshami greeted me and we talked for quite some time. I told Brian my story and offered some general ideas about what I was looking for. He showed me many beautiful settings but at first, nothing was quite right. Brian patiently allowed me to continue to look without any pressure at all. I quickly became very comfortable with the store and with Brian. Eventually I found a ring I liked and focused on it - a white gold setting with baguettes and an elegant diamond. I returned a few days later for a second look and I knew it was perfect! The deal was easy and fair and the ring was ready in plenty of time for Christmas. And picking up the ring was such a pleasure! The store had such good energy - delicious catered food, classy decorations, and the owner actually introduced himself to me to thank me for the purchase. My new wife and I were married on Valentine's Day and we returned to The Tiny Jewel Box where Brian outfitted us with beautiful wedding bands. Everything is perfect! Not only has it been easy, visiting the store is such a pleasure! The staff makes sure customers are comfortable and they go out of their way to provide parking, after all the store is in the center of downtown DC. Called around on a Saturday to get a couple links removed from my new Movado watch. Note: I did not buy this at Tiny Jewel box. Most jewelry places I called in Washington told me their watch repair person was out of commission until Monday, but Tiny Jewel Box offered to take a look at the watch. They quoted me $15 over the phone to remove links, but when it was complete, they told me it was free. Great selection but I had a less than stellar experience. The associate I initially spoke with made it seem like with my budget the item I wanted to be designed would have a very small stone (presumably to try and manage my expectations)--ok, that's fair. I tried on similar styles with bigger stones and was told I wouldn't be able to have anything like that with my budget, which I was also aware of, but didn't necessarily appreciate the reminder as I had thought that was already clear. I had already done a lot of research before I went in so I was aware that it might be difficult to obtain what I was looking for, but the repeated reminders of how small my stone would be lead be to believe that it wasn't worth getting a custom-made piece here and I left and started working with a different retailer. Tiny Jewel Box followed up with me in a timely manner (which I did appreciate) and did give me the specs on the item I was looking to design--the stone was actually bigger than I was lead to believe I could afford. I would have been very happy with what they could deliver, but due to the fact that I had had such a depressing experience with the associate I just figured it wouldn't be possible for me. That, along with a comment the associate made about my name (which in ordinary circumstances might have seemed innocuous) towards the end of the visit just rubbed me the wrong way and I left feeling pretty hollow and dejected. read more

I have been a customer of TJB for about 1.5 years now...I can't stay away! Most of my interaction has been with Alicia, who saved my engagement ring (purchased/set elsewhere) by redesigning it so that everything was safe and elegant. I then used her to create two pieces for my wedding - earrings and a necklace - using diamonds left to me by my grandmother. She worked with me every step along the way on all three pieces to ensure I was happy and within my budget. She then created a non-gem pendant for my husband, which I know is somewhat atypical, made from some gold my grandmother left me along with silver. It is amazing; he loves it. Finally, I used her to help source a new diamond for my ring and surprisingly she was quite competitive with her pricing compared to online resources, so how could i refuse! When I saw my new ring I cried. Although I have primarily worked with Alicia, everyone at TJB has been helpful, from when we first started looking, to when we purchased my wedding band (I think we worked with Rich). I would be lying if I said they were "cheap"; it may be possible to get these creations made elsewhere for less, but my comfort with Alicia and TJB to not only create something wonderful but stand by their craftsmanship was enough for me to get over a bit of sticker shock. I trust her with family heirlooms and would rather pay more for those to be handled correctly than risk going elsewhere ever again! read more

Just left there. Stood in the ring section and was not greeted at all! Wanted to purchase a diamond eternity band. Stood there watching the sales women offer a quick fix to the customer's ring, so she wasn't purchasing. After standing there for almost 4 minutes, without as much as a "hi" I walked towards the exit and told the man near the door, "greet your customers". He said, "she didn't?" I said, "No, I won't be spending my money here. What happened to greeting your customers within 30-60 seconds? We have to do better with customer service. Tiny Jewel Box's customer service is extraordinary. I am not a big jewelry person but received a lovely David Yurman bracelet as a gift from TJB. Unfortunately, only a year after receiving the bracelet, one of the pearls at the end of the cable bracelet fell off. I was quite surprised by this happening because I thought DY had a reputation for quality. I first contacted DY to inquire about a repair however they claimed it was no longer under warranty so I would have to pay out of pocket for the repair. Again, not being a big jewelry person, I don't know if that is standard protocol but I guess I naively thought jewelers such as DY made bracelets that were supposed to hold up longer than a year. Nevertheless, I called TJB, spoke with Monette Corrigan (the consummate customer service professional) who quickly helped me with the issue and explained TJB would take care of the repair. I cannot thank Monette and her team enough for helping me. For someone who used to eye the Tiny Jewel Box with the same wishful admiration Holly Golightly gave Tiffany's; I could not have been more pleasantly surprised with the professionalism, respect and genuine customer service I received at the Tiny Jewel Box. read more

My experience at the Tiny Jewel Box, and especially with Jillian, was beyond my expectations. I went in to find an engagement ring when my now fiancee was out of town. My idea of a ring was a gold band with a platinum setting. Beyond that I only knew that I wanted a nice round cut diamond. Jillian took the time to show me a variety of diamonds that, while gorgeous, just didn't fit the bill for what I was looking for. After appeasing me, while not pushing in any direction, Jillian really got to work at what I can only say was short of amazing. She started asking me pointed questions about me and my fiancee and what she was looking for too, the type of person she is, etc. Out of this deep dive came a unique fiery Old European cut diamond. After it was removed from its original setting, Jillian took the time to answer all of my insane and erratic questions. Once the diamond was put into the setting I had chosen, I was stunned. Horrible experience. I took in my antique engagement ring to be cleaned and have the prongs fixed. The woman not only insulted the ring (one of the few pieces of family jewelry to survive the holocaust) but told us the ring wasn't worth what it would cost to fix the prongs holding the diamonds in. We went down the street to Boone and Sons and got the ring cleaned and fixed for a fair price without being insulted. read more

My fiance brought my engagement ring to Tiny Jewel Box when it needed to be resized. Unfortunately, they tried to resize it by a technique that was inappropriate for the design and damaged the setting. Instead of telling us about the error, they made a poor attempt at repair, set it back to its original size, and charged us for the service anyways. I am saddened and disappointed that they had such poor integrity and have damaged the setting that my fiance designed. read more

I had visited a few times, and had gotten variable service (depending on the salesperson) but when it came time to resize my Mom's platinum engagement ring, I listened to the advice of friends and brought the job to them. They measured my finger and when I got the ring back it was way too big. Sent it to jeweler again. Six months later, the band broke. Turns out the multiple sizing fatigued the ring. And I paid them to do this! Subsequently I have been told that the owner's son had taken over business and has not kept up standards. Ok...I admit it...I have a serious jewelry problem and my husband has put me on a jewelry diet. But I thought I'd pass my knowledge along for all of you who are looking for a good vintage piece or want to find a special vintage engagement ring in the DC area. First try Tiny Jewel Box. TJB is the highest quality jewelry store in DC in my opinion...whether you want beautiful vintage jewelry or fabulous new jewelry by designers like Alex Sepkus, Temple St. Clair, Marco Bicego, Annie Fensterstock, etc., they have it all. Don't be intimidated by the staff when you walk in...they are all very nice and helpful. The first floor has the highest end and vintage stuff (all pretty expensive) but the second floor has more contemporary, less pricey items that are still pretty spectacular. For those complaining about TJB stock, remember that vintage jewelry isn't made everyday...vintage stock fluctuates. And TJB tries to carry only highest quality items...there's a lot of schlocky vintage jewelry out there just like today there is a lot of crappy jewelry. They have validated garage parking across the street. read more

My fiancé and I visited several jewelry stores in the DC area when looking at engagement rings. Out of all the places we visited, Tiny Jewel Box had the best selection of high quality diamonds. We worked closely with Brian Ehteshami and he took the time to listen to us and show us a variety of different diamonds and styles. We never felt pressured into buying anything and although our budget was a bit flexible, Brian didn't try to push us to spend more. Over the course of several visits, Brian showed my fiancé a specific diamond that she fell in love with and she ended up getting a simple design to show off the one diamond. They also stayed in close contact with us and sent us mark ups of the ring's design as it was being made and also helped resolve questions from our insurance company when we got the ring insured. When we began looking at wedding bands we immediately emailed Brian. Although TJB didn't exactly fix what was wrong with my vintage ring the first time I took it in, they quickly fixed the prong when I pointed it out again and it has held up well for the year since. The repair blends into he ring and is indistinguishable from the rest of the piece. Finding a good vintage jeweler is hard, and finding one that will care for your pieces as much as you do, is even harder. TJB is a good pick. read more

Every city has its luxury first level, high quality antique and artisan jewel shops. Unfortunately, Tiny Jewel Box is not one of them. It disappoints. My experience is that it does not possess the quality, level of staff, or provides the experience one expects. If you have to purchase an important piece of jewlery my suggestion would be to go elsewhere. One would think things would operate on a higher level, especially for the prices, which seem excessive for the quality and items. My experience of the service was that it ranges from lukewarm and phony to downright awful, with the exception of perhaps one or two family members. I am looking at my engagement ring as I type this, and I'm almost at a loss for words to describe how much I love this ring. My fiance proposed with a beautiful ring of his mother's, but the setting was worn and too small for me, so we set out to find a setting of our own. We went to Boone and Sons on a recommendation, and had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had anywhere. So I started this journey out a little wary. I didn't want to plop the diamond into a mass-produced platinum prong setting. I wanted yellow gold, bezel set...something different, something that would need to be designed from scratch. We went to a few other small jewelers, but none inspired the confidence I needed to take a leap of faith that they could build the ring I wanted. When we got to Tiny Jewel Box, all my fears were put to rest. They have a gorgeous collection of jewelry, and had a ring in the case that almost matched the one I'd envisioned for myself. Alicia spent a lot of time with us, sketching out my vision, and then brought me in again to see a computer-generated model of the ring. When the finished product came back two months later, I couldn't have prepared myself for how beautiful it was. With the help of Alicia and everyone at Tiny Jewel Box, we created a ring that is unique, gorgeous, and makes me so happy every time I look at it. Thank you! read more
