Being the music snob and audiophile that I am, I'm a bit sad it took me over a year and a half to actually check this place out. The fact that this place is pretty well known outside of New Orleans makes it special and I saw the Walkmen here last weekend. The venue is very cozy and the sound system is solid. The place is relatively clean (although dated) and there is an upstairs viewing area as well as the main stage floor with two bars on each side. Really dig this place to see live music but unfortunately their music schedule no longer gets the top acts in town as most seem to favor House of Blues downtown (which is why I deducted a point). There is lots of street parking and the building looks legendary when you enter the venue. There is also no smoking inside which is great. Most shows are relatively cheap here. Overall, Great Venue, OK Music options, Solid Location, Inexpensive concert tickets and drink prices. Def worth the time to check out a solid act. read more

It doesn't bring as many "name" bands as some of the other places in town, but it does bring you great local acts along with a slice of nostalgia. Tipitina's Uptown is a New Orleans classic which has seen a lot of great musicians over the years. It's a very high energy venue with great music, a good beer selection, and good bartenders - just be aware there is no seating in the entire place (other than one couch in an upstairs corner and a bench in the upstairs VIP area) and shows will almost always start well after the posted time. Definitely not great for an older clientelle (or people who are already worn out from a busy day) but definitely a fun place with great local acts and fairly reasonable ticket prices. read more

Tip's is a legendary institution (and if you need a quick lesson why, just look at all the old posters they have hanging up. My jaw fell open when I saw a poster showing Fela Kuti had once played here...!) in New Orleans. I've been to tons of different shows here - the weekly Cajun fais do do, funk and brass band shows, and even a Gillian Welch concert. The stage floor level can get pretty crowded (this is a standing room only kind of place), so the upstairs part can be nice (though sometimes it's hard to get a good spot near the railing). The bathrooms on the second floor are a little neater, and there's also another bar on the top floor that didn't seem super slammed during the last show I saw here. Tip's is one of those places that everyone should go to at least once in their lives. But the difference between Tip's and many other venues is once is not enough - true appreciation comes from repeated visits. read more

Tipitina's is just the kind of place you want to hear your favorite band(s): quaint, intimate & the acoustics are excellent. Unfortunately, what significantly diminished my experience (&, ultimately, this rating) is the serious lack of organization there. I found out the hard way that will-call opens at the same time that the doors are scheduled to open, instead of hours beforehand, the way literally every other venue I have visited does. Because of this, make sure you have your ticket(s) in hand, or you will be made to wait in the will-call line, then be lined up behind those with tickets, even if you arrived hours before anyone else did (I'm short & like to be in the front for shows). There was also the frustration of having to chase down apathetic/uninformed/rude staff members who wound up having either no information or the wrong information about where will-call would be & when we could pick up tickets (trust me, this matters when they leave you out in the pouring rain for hours). Everything ran late & everything was reactionary at best. Not my best concert going experience. From now on, I will only purchase tickets to a show at Tipitina's if there is time to have them mailed to me in advance or if a friend in NOLA can pick up the ticket the day before a show. Otherwise, as lovely as the venue is, my money would be better spent elsewhere. read more

I went to Tipitina's with a tugboat operator my friend Abby met on her flight in from New York, naturally. 6 beers in the car and 4jello shots later I went onto the dance floor to groove to my newest and favoritest band ever: Papa Grows Funk And a good time was had by all in the huge warehouse space, fantastic lineup of music, fast moving bar lines, and cool mix of people. read more

Tip's is a fantastic little venue. Small, two levels. Several easy to get to bars both upstairs and down. Standing room only, so it can get a bit packed.... But everyone is there to have a good time so there are seldom problems. I've seen some great bands here and was lucky enough to be in town for the "Bring back the Houseman" Benefit. Tips is awesome for many reasons: you get to see famous and soon-to-be-famous musicians for an average of $10 a show. Their AC works. The sound and the people who work the sound system do a great job of highlighting and accentuating the music being performed. The lighting is not cheap either. They got a nice variety of moving and static lights. Went to see a show on Saturday that had the crowd rockin'. I honestly did not know any of the musicians or the songs being played . However, it was hard not to get caught up in the show because of the atmosphere and all the technical details about the lighting and the sound. Decor and history are very cool too. I am giving 5 start but I am going to include a con: No place to sit downstairs. The other people who attended the show were sooooo into it that there is no way they needed the chairs....but I did. One more "tip:" When they say they are smoke free, I think the crowd interprets that as "cigarette smoke." read more

My favorite live music venue in the city, it's amazing how many famous musicians have graced Tip's with their performances throughout the years. Solid would be an apt word to describe Tipitina's. From the $2 high lifes (why not live it when you're in New Orleans) to the sweet space for music enjoyin, and the just higher than 10-foot (I swear) basektball hoop nailed onto the balcony...which you can embarrass yourself in front of your friends and any girls nearby in trying to grab. Soul Rebels Brass Band lit this place up the night I was there. I don't have a lot else to say except it was awesome. read more

Great music venue. Went for the first time last night and it was fantastic. You can feel the history emanating from the walls. The actual show was wonderful. Go see a band you love and I promise you will be surrounded by like-minded people (the best way to see a concert!). Learning about the Tipitina's foundation made me appreciate this place even more. The very first live music venue I visited in NOLA. Now some years later, the place is just as rocking and the crowd just as chill. Perhaps the best thing about Tips is the lack of drunk giggly Bourbon Streeters. We saw the Soul Rebels and Jon Cleary- best night of music I've heard in a long time. I have been to most of the legendary concert venues in the US. the Fillmore, Radio City, Roseland, The Showbox, Fox Theaters in Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis and Boulder ect... There is always one venue that every can agree on as being one of the bets for pulling great performances out of the band that play there. This venue is Tipitina's in New Orleans Uptown district. Yes, the bathrooms overflow and you have to walk on a board to cross the puddle, yes, the beer is flavored water and yes, you will lose about 20 lbs from sweating while the show plays. Two weeks ago we made our annual trip to New Orleans. Saw that Fess Fest was going on at Tipitina's and from 900 miles away bought tickets. I don't know if this is usual for all shows but be warned there were no seats, NONE in the place to sit for the public (there was a roped off VIP area in the balcony with tables and a few chairs). We went to the balcony and the sight lines are not very good except for possibly eight to ten spots which had been taken quickly by those with experience. I saw Kermit Ruffin here and had a ball. You can just feel the history in this place and it's big enough that you can move around and get different vantage points. If you need some breathing room and your ears hurt you can watch from upstairs or you can get down in it on the floor. read more

Don't worry about who's playing, what day of the week it is or if you've not had dinner yet. With a line up that's always top notch, a space that's big enough to shake your ass to the ground, and multiple bars to keep you hydrated you'll be well taken care of and a taco truck outside till the wee hours to keep you fueled up for those late night jam sessions with special guests who just happened to swing by to sit in with the band. read more

Great to see the diverse audience, the Radiator's bringing it home, in perfect Radiators style. A Classic New Orleans Locale I was happy to go here 16 months after the storm and see that the people are still as friendly as ever. It's gotten a lot more quiet and there weren't that many people but Rebirth is still rocking and the rest of the musicians there were really flavorful. This was the first time I heard about this place so it was always in the back of my mind and I finally got the chance to check this place out last weekend to see one of the Last Watusi shows aka one of the last shows for the Radiators! What a place! Small, intimate venue with a VIP balcony above. The sound was great and the place was just full of energy! It reminds me of the place in Dallas called the Kessler Theatre except of course Tipitina's has a rich history and the VIP balcony is a lot closer to the stage! I can't wait to see another show at this place again! One thing though, I guess you can say it's in a odd location and maybe there was more about the area than what I knew. I originally thought I was going to the French Quarter one, but it didn't matter anyways! When you get the chance to go, GO! read more

Was there on Lundi Gras... Karl Denson and Galactic was performing... great show. The whole space holds several hundreds - there's a big open space on the first floor, two bars on each side, and an upstairs balcony that has another bar. Drinks are wonderfully cheap. One corner of the upstairs was reserved for a "VIP" area (where a DJ was spinning during the band intermissions). There is a railing upstairs you can curl yourself over and see down into the first floor. Gritty and earthy, Tipitina's has a very unique atmosphere. Many facets of American counterculture make their home in within these walls. Lots of that is driven from the mob of Tulane kids that make up the bulk of the business here. Hippie rockers, buttoned-ups, and ravers all bump into each other in this place... definitely surprised to see the glowstickers/cuddle puddle in the upstairs corner, especially for a jazz/funk jam band... The sound is excellent, and the energy is amazing... people jamming out until 7 in the morning... they know how to party right here. read more

As far as music venues go, this one is fine. Large, loud, drinks flowing. The one star rating is for the people that work here. I have never been treated so rudely in my life, and I grew up going to venues in Boston and NYC. And it wasn't like one guy was just having a crappy day, more like it is a requirement to be an insolent, abrasive, scowling A-hole to get a job here. Great place to see live music and an absolute must for any live music fan. A Nola tradition. Used to live right down Napoleon from Tips and had lots of fun there. Had some difficult times walking back home on the seriously un-level sidewalks trying to walk home! Tipitina's is one of the most iconic places to catch live music in New Orleans. Check their website to see if they are doing Foundation Free Fridays. They always have a great line up for those shows. Other than having some fantastic artists come through, the venue itself is pretty intimate. It used to be an old gym at one point, I think. There is a second level (usually for VIP tickets) and GA on the first floor. Get there early to find a good spot (although all the way at the back isn't exactly terrible and is usually less crowded). Drinks are moderately priced. read more

If you visit NOLA you must visit here! My husband and I visited Tipitina's to see Robert Randolph and the Family Band while we were on our honeymoon and it's such a great spot! Staff are all extremely friendly, east to talk to and great service. They have two floors, but since it was an overpacked night they only kept the first floor open. We were staying in the French Quarter and it was really easy to take an uber over to the bar before and after. read more

It's the best music venue in the city, and has only gotten better since Galactic took over about a year ago. They're great local citizens, too, focusing on local bands, raising money for local school marching bands, and doing a good job of closing with COVID spreading in our city. TIP'S! It is world famous, and it has a great reputation that it really does deserve. This place is always packed, always playing great music, and always fun. If you can't quite stand the crowd downstairs, you can always pop upstairs, where there is another bar, bathrooms, and usually a more relaxed crowd. My favorite part about Tip's is their greatest institution: Free Friday's. Every Friday, they put on a free show, which is (for me) more than enough of an excuse to get up, go out, have a few drinks and have a bunch of fun. read more

This is a phenomenal place to watch live music. Was able to get tickets to see Trombone Shorty the night before Halloween and simply LOVED LOVED LOVED the show. The crowd was great, and almost everyone was dressed in costumes for the big show. The thrill of the show here is that it's a sorta small venue, but it doesnt get so crowded that you stop having a good time. there's a close-ish view of the stage from most places in the club which is always great. There's plenty of bard and bartenders all around so you don't have to wait long for a drink. there's also a second floor wrap around balcony so you can chill comfortably from upstairs as well. As soon as you can see someone you like there, go CHECK IT OUT. read more
