So the decor is probably the original decor of this place; however it's clean. They serve Tex-mex at great prices. The portions are generous and Mary and Mohammad take care of their customers. They use fresh pico for their tacos which was a nice compliment to their grub. Simple cheap eats. It's fast and decent. I'm not really sure if you would call this grilled chicken, but there's not a sear in sight on this chicken once I arrived to my house which was literally a three minute walk across the street. My food was cold. I should have known when no one was actually in the restaurant except two guest there was going to be an issue. Overall not good tacos at all. The salsa they give you on side taste like the salsa that comes out of a grocery store bought pack taco kit. I took 3 bites of the hard taco and it was enough for me. Until I convinced myself to take a couple bites of the soft taco and the taco was not warm at all the protein, was not warm all the veggies and toppings that should be on top were at the bottom except for cheese with lukewarm protein on top. read more

Fantastic experience. Ordered a taco, smothered burrito, smothered burrito dinner, con queso and chips, plus drinks. The owner very friendly at the counter was able to answer many questions and later served the food. The store was spotless clean. The meal itself exceed all of our expectations, the portions were full, there were no corners cut. Seasoning for every item was just right. The hot sauce added to the flavor but just the meals themselves were quite tasty alone. Can not think of a single thing to enhance the experience. Well played, very well played. read more

Stopped in my old stomping grounds. Was delighted to go back to Tippys. Did it meet my expectations? Yes. It is basic Tex Mex food for a reasonable price. If you're going to get an enchilada, get the cheese one. There is something special about the flavor. The beef and chicken ones are okay, so be sure to get the queso one! As for the refried beans they were alright. I remember them being better for some reason, but as we age things are different. The rice and tacos were quite tasty. Their hot sauce needs to be updated though. It works but more options for spice would be appreciated. A lot of business here is takeout. I chose to dine in. There weren't a lot of people, but I liked the atmosphere. This is a working man or family type of place. If you're looking for margaritas and the like elsewhere. The tables and dining room are clean. I also liked that the value for the money is good, although miss the days of $6 meals. Inflation is real and it's not the fault of this restaurant. The owner is extremely friendly! I always order the 4 meat tacos and nachos. They always have birch beer which is so tasty! I really like how the meat is seasoned and how gracious the portions are. Exactly what I wanted and exactly how it's always been : this is not haute cuisine. This is not "authentic " anything. This is simply Tippy's. I've been ordering the vegetarian version of the fiesta dinner (guacamole please, not queso) since I moved to northern Virginia 30 years ago. It's delicious in a completely unto itself way. No longer a super bargain...but what is??? My closest tippys got booted out of their location by the expansion of a motorcycle gear store. So I have to drive further, but totally worth it for 1970s type Americanized/texmex food. Once or twice a year a delicious and nostalgic treat. read more

Where to begin...well this is not your typical Mexican restaurant. Tippy's plays an extensive ol' skool country music selection, at no time did a Tejano, Norteño or even Baby Bash. My nachos were tortilla chips sprinkled with shredded cheese and popped in the microwave, but the sour cream was pretty good. The tacos needed a bit more meat to fill the shell. Now the chicken quesadilla had chicken which appeared to be cut small enough for a salad. The onions were cut larger than the chicken. I can't even recall what the other dish was that I ordered. I can't say that there will be a return for me, but if you have a few dollars and feel adventurous Tippy's is for you. read more

This is the BEST Mexican food in the northern Virginia area hands down. The food is high quality and the team working is always welcoming and go above and beyond to creating a great atmosphere. This is a basic normal clean consistent restaurant that the people at the Washington DC wharf need to take a look at. The owner success stems to his attention to detail and care he give his food is outstanding, nothing more nothing less. I had been long overdue since I had visited one of these restaurants. I think more than 2 years which for me was a long time. It hasn't exactly been my fault tough. The location in Springfield had lost their lease, and they closed down 2 years ago. I have been bummed out ever since the n because I would practically make weekly visits to the restaurant for their four taco special. I believe the special was four tacos for less than $4.00, now it's nearly $8.00 here at this other location! The Owner tried to explain to me that inflation is to blame, but I have doubts that the dramatic increase of doubling the price of these ordinary tacos is only caused by inflation. The tacos are more or less exactly the same as they were 20 years ago! That being said, at that price I wouldn't be able to continue the weekly tradition of this restaurant chain. Not to mention that this location is farther away. The atmosphere of the restaurant here is similar to the location in Springfield. Nothing too fancy here which is the way I like it. read more

I'm not really sure why there are so many negative reviews for Tippy's! This eatery is located in front of the Huntington Metro station. The service was friendly, and since they were having a 99cent taco special, we ordered 3 of those. The place has a $5 minimum if you're using a card, so keep that in mind. The taco itself was pretty solid - the taco shell was very crispy and the ground beef was flavorful. It came with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese. I didn't like the hot sauce, but the taco was good on its own. If you're craving for some straightforward simple tacos, Tippy's has good ones (but go there on a Sunday or on a Wednesday, as that's when they have the special). +99c taco special +$5 card minimum read more

Tacos are definitely Americanized and not authentic - didn't love the taste. Semi cold tacos, with some orange cheese and lettuce thrown on unflavored meat. But staff is nice and portions are large. I'd recommend tacos Al coastilla close by read more

I'll start by saying the owner was a nice person. The food was a microwaved, elementary school lunch. The chicken was the frozen type, the cheese was the single kraft "cheese" placed on top. The quesadilla was terrible. I would highly suggest that the company bring in some professionals to help this place out. I came to this restaurant only to learn that not every location is the same. The location in Springfield has been running a promotion for at least 2 years that offers $.99 tacos on Wednesday and Thursday. Here it is Wednesday and Sunday. It wasn't a huge deal to me, as I went ahead and ord res the 5 taco special for $5.00. This location has a few extra amenities that the other place does not. For e ample, self-serve drink fountain, and more than 4 ta Les to sit down. Granted it's still old school, and there is nothing fancy at either location, but here is slightly more spacious. The tacos were prepared in less than three minutes, and I was able to get a cup of ice for some water that I had already had with me. In short: AVOID. In length: see below. The place inside looks like it's from the 80s and definitely needs updating. I looked for a health code rating and there was none displayed (I looked intently). It might have been this one frame purposefully jammed behind this sweet tea container, but I didn't want to obviously try to verify that. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and a water cup, cost about $7.25. The "water cup" was the guy literally filling it up via a hand/dish sink behind him so I didn't dare try to drink it. As you can see in the picture, the refried beans are more like resurrected beans and I didn't even dare touch them either. The "chicken" enchilada was about the same quality as a 7-11 frozen dinner. The chicken was obviously microwaved and not cooked in-house and that was the only thing inside the corn tortilla... there was some sort of sauce on them with Walmart shredded cheese delicately place and microwaved on top. The rice was the only thing that was somewhat good but still bland and very average. If I had paid only $3 for the meal it'd be less of a let down, but Taco Bell is leagues ahead of this place. The couple who runs this place (they're not of Latin origin by the way, unusual for a neighborhood known for its strong Latin population) are very friendly. Good peeps, I tell ya. For some reason around this area there are not a lot of plain Mexican restaurants. Sometimes I just need a little Midwest/Missouri kind of Mexican food, not that I don't like Tex-Mex and all the great authentic Mexican type places, I just want something regular. This is that type of place. I have driven by a million times and always wanted to give it a try. They were rude on top of it. Considering that we were the ONLY customers in the restaurant (and I'm sure one of the first), you'd think they would be nicer. If I pay for a drink, who are you to tell me I CAN'T share it with my boyfriend? If you don't want to pay for a drink they're happy to give you warm tap water -_- Pfft! Tippy's is clearly on its last leg and just kicking the consumers who are silly enough to attempt to eat there.
