My 25-year-old daughter ran over a screw and had a flat tire. Car was towed to Tires Plus, 1103 West Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN. Tires Plus informed her that 1) the hole was in the sidewall of the tire, and therefore the tire could not be repaired (how does one get a hole in a tire on the side wall??); 2) the tires on the car are no longer made; and 3) they would have to sell her four NEW tires. I called another tire dealer and was told they could replace the tire with the same tire; and that it is unnecessary to replace all four tires given the nominal tread wear of the tires. I promptly had the car towed to the other dealer and had the tire replaced with a new tire, same brand. I think it is despicable to attempt to take advantage of someone in this fashion. I would not recommend this dealership. read more

Avoid getting a brake job here! A $99 front brake pad change morphed into a quote for over $600 when Tyler told me my "rotors might fail" if I didn't replace all 4 brake pads AND rotors. What a total rip off. I called up my my brother to run it past him, so he bought a set of pads for my front brakes for $40. He took off my front tires to reveal perfect rotors. I saw them myself. A quick flashlight inspection to my rear wheels showed brake pads that were perfectly fine. NOT COOL, Tires Plus Uptown :( read more

I will NEVER bring my car here for repair again. I will let them rotate my tires with strict instructions to do nothing else. I will not allow them to open my hood to even check fluids and I plan to watch them through the window. Here is my reason why: I brought my car in because my brakes were not working properly, they would go all the way to the floor before braking. Their first diagnosis was that I needed new front rotors and brake pads. I had those replaced in 2011 but sure whatever. The next day I got a call that the brake fluid was contaminated and I would need to replace every rubber piece in my brake system totaling around $3300. Very fishy that the story would change over night. I told them not to do the repairs and I paid to have my car towed to my hometown mechanic in Clearwater, MN (Ron at TRS). He fixed my car for $290. He said there was ONE rubber piece that was torn which was why my brake fluid wasn't properly getting where it needed to go. He said that the break fluid looked contaminated because Tires Plus opened all the calipers up and drained everything from the car (making the fluid look contaminated and create a huge mess that Ron had to clean up). Ron let me know that some shops will open calipers up to slowly create more problems that result in you coming back! Outrageous! I cannot prove that that is what happened but they definitely tried to take advantage of me and essentially steal from me to do repairs that didn't need to be done. And did I forget to mention that my rotors and brake pads (that Ron had done in 2011) were perfectly fine and had normal wear and tear but DID NOT need to get replaced. I will NEVER bring my car back for more than my free tire rotation. read more

As a woman, I don't feel like they are taking advantage of me at all. I, unfortunately, have felt very taken advantage of at other Privately Owned Tires Plus locations (Cough cough St Anthony). The customer service is amazing (Shout out to Pete!!) and they are incredibly patient in explaining what is wrong and what the options are. Update to my original review 8/2018 - I still love Tires Plus! I've had several services done at this location over the years on my old af car (2004 Toyota Rav4) and they're always nice, efficient, and reasonably priced. Schedule your maintenance online, drop your car off, run over to Egg and I for breakfast or hit up the shops on Hennepin, and pick up your car when you're done. Read your line item estimate very carefully and ask questions. I took my Volvo here and the estimate seemed high. Upon examination, I discovered I was being charged for a metric tool that the shop did not have on it's bench. I looked the very friendly mechanic right in the eye and said, "So, you're charging me for a tool you don't have and then you get to keep the tool?" He smiled but was sheepish and admitted that was the case. Needless to say I took my car to another shop- one with a good stock of metric tools. BUYER BEWARE. read more

Three times now over several years I've brought two separate vehicles in with a slow leak in a tire. Was told all three times "The object is too close to the edge. You'll need a new tire". The first time, I believed em. The last two times I took the vehicle elsewhere and had the leaking tires fixed, no problems. Both of those times I was told the object wasn't close enough to the edge to warrant a new tire. Watch for out for this line of crap, and get another opinion! read more

Is it possible to give them negative stars? After damaging my car more so then when it was brought it, they told me I had to bring it to a dealership to get the timing belt changed. Everything ended up costing me a grand and 4 days without a car because of the damage they caused while trying to fix everything. read more

As slow if not slower than the two hours quoted and the four hours waiting for a tire rotation besides being the only one here for the last hour of this misery personally should of got my tires from Costco never have waited longer than the quote of two hours it's like going to the doctors except there not and there opinion is questionable at best was told could bring my truck back another time as it sits in the air read more

I have been going here for 2 years and have always be given great service. I don't know anything about cars/trucks so I could easily be ripped off, however, I don't feel that I have not been taken advantage of here. I moved to minneapolis 5 years ago. I own my car and moved away from home where my dad always helped with my car. Last year my tire blew out and I was stressed without a clue where to find a legit place in the city that wouldn't screw me over or make me spend $$$. I got my new tires from tires plus and have been going back since. Joe is the best. He doesn't make me feel dumb or like I'm being taken advantage of. Bought four brand new tires last year. When I went to pick up my car, they told me a few lug nuts broke during the process, and they replaced them with smaller, uncapped ones that are noticeably different. At first I was bummed, and it seemed odd because my vehicle is only 5 years old -- but the mechanic assured me it was just cosmetic and the function wouldn't be impacted. However, after 6 months, all of my hubcaps have fallen off at one point or another. I'm not a mechanic, but I spoke to a few friends who know more about cars and they agreed the situation was a bit sketchy. I had a flat tire on my car,..happens right? I went into Tires Plus to get a new tire, which they said they had my specific one and could put on. Sounds great right? Well, what I didn't know is that they can't "actually" put on only one tire citing company policy as to how it will disturb the drive train on one's vehicle ( I called BS on this),........what they "can" do is have you buy four NEW tires to put on OR you can buy the one tire but you're going to have to put it on yourself,.....off the premises of course! This isn't something any employee tells a customer until after their car is in the shop and up on those jacks with the tires off. IT's a bait and switch of the sleaziest kind and I think they should be more upfront with these things. Apparently Tires Plus thinks this way of treating customers by pressuring them into buying more product through desperate means is just fine,.......but then there's Yelp, and people like me to tell the real truth. Honest-1 in Uptown told me that I needed 4 new tires, but since one of the tires was brand new and from Tires Plus, I returned to TP hoping to get a deal on the other 3. I asked for 3 tires, but when I returned they had only changed 2 because that was all I needed. Then I went back with a wheel bearing issue and they quoted more than $100 less than Honest-1. The mechanics stayed over an hour past the store closing time and got my car back to me that night. Very happy. read more

Been there multiple times now, NEVER do anything right the first time. .... not sure why I keep going back Had appointment for single tire replacement and oil change. came to my appointment 15 minutes early, left car for an hour. came back they were halfway through doing one tire and hadnt touched the oil....... asked if I wanted to make another appointment to come back for the oil change ...... NO... Job shouldnt take longer than 30 min, to hard for them. Got a road hazard, needed a new tire. they had to order the tire. hours later they called said tire is in. when in to get it put on.. then they realized they didnt order the right size.... another day on the spare it is. I got all my tires replaced here. A few weeks later back passenger tire was flat. So I brought it in to a place nearby. Turns out IT WAS NEVER SEALED when they put the new tires in. Dont do it! Yes, it may be a convenient location for us in uptown, but that's all it has going for it. 1). Got oil changed - they forgot to tighten oil plug, leaked out, couldnt figure out why check oil light kept going on. Walla, 3/4 of oil missing. I went back, told them about the "oil slick" in my garage, they replaced the plug, new oil, seemed annoyed that I brought the car back. Wanted to charge me for new oil (it was only a week), but decided to do me a "favor" and not charge me. Sheesh, sorry to put you out. 2). Desperate, my battery was getting weak during the arctic blast this week. Was worried it wouldnt start in the morning. Went to them to get a new one. After a half hour the customer service guy comes to me and says he misquoted me on the phone for the battery and could I please pay an extra $100. Kinda hard to say no when they have your car in the garage torn apart. Not very nice. After an hour the tech comes to me and says they cant find the battery. I show them, tell them how to take it out. They still cant figure it out. Now it's been an hour and a half (they said it would take less than an hour). They took all the stuff out of my car and put it on their dirty oily floor (thanks). I couldnt wait any longer told them I had to go, left a mess in my car, grease and oil marks everywhere. Very unethical! These are the kind of guys that give mechanics a bad rap. My son's 2001 Honda Civic was having brake issues on Lake Street. Had it towed to TP to evaluate. My insurance company paid for the tow. Ryan at TP said both front pads and rotors were shot due to overheating, the one rotor was leaking and the other wasn't operating correctly (quote: $690 with a "Black Friday discount" of $100 - so it would have been $790 without the "discount"). Didn't sound right so I had it towed home to look at it (this time I had to pay the $140 tow). One caliper was leaking which was the problem. Pads and rotors on both sides looked perfect. No cracks or signs of overheating. LIES! All I had to do was replace one caliper and bleed the brakes ($60 after returning the caliper core - a lot better than $690). And it only took an hour to do the repair. Even if I had replaced everything, the parts at NAPA would have been $200 (2 new calipers, 2 rotors and 2 sets of pads). NOT HAPPY! read more

Great experience with this shop! Pete (the manager) was able to squeeze me in same day when I decided I wanted to get new tires on my car the day before I was going to drive 600 miles to visit family. And (this was when I knew I had gone to the right place), I told him that I knew 3 tires needed to be replaced, but I wasn't sure about the 4th one because it is newer but was put on my car when I lived in NC and they didn't worry much about winter. He checked the newer tire and told me that it was not necessary to replace that one - that it would be fine for winter. It wouldn't have taken much for me to say "replace all 4", but he was honest, and I really liked that. I am very impressed and I highly recommend the Uptown Tires Plus!! read more

If I could give a zero I would. Took my car to Tires Plus in Lithonia, Ga on Minola Drive this morning. While waiting there was a young lady looking at her bill while another customer was telling the guy at the counter she was leaving her car and a tow truck will be picking it up First sign I should have left). The young lady went up to the counter after the first lady left and asked what was all of the charges on her bill (second sign I should have left). The counter guy explained all of her charges to her. She then stated, "I did not ask for all of that" then she explained what she came in and asked for. My turn at the counter, The guy tells me its a two hour wait, I can leave the car or wait for it. I chose to leave it and have my daughter pick me up. At 2:30 I get a call, " Ms. Rocourt we had problems with our alignment machine and had to change it out so we will be taking it back soon", okay I replied. At 5:19 I call to see if my car was ready, the voice on the other end tells me they can't align my car because i need 4 new tires. Wait, I said stopping him, you mean to tell me you had my car over 5 hours and no one called me to tell me that my car will not be done, I'll be there in a min. Mind you, I just bought new tires and had them put on. I get there and no one is inside, I wait 5 min and then opens the door to where they are and ask for a manager or someone, someone will be there soon was the reply. Waiting a little longer, I spot my keys on the counter with the bill for 70+. I look at the total, yep that is the total. For what, my car sitting there for over 5 hours? I took my keys walked out and left with my car. Moral of the story don't go to Tires Plus in Lithonia and if you spot a potential problem with a customer, don't bother staying. read more

My tire blew out on the side of the road and I had to get a new tire put on to replace the donut. Called several local repair shops, no one could fit me in until 2 days later. Called Tires Plus, talked to a friendly guy on the phone who got me in right away no problem. I'm a female and often deal with car people trying to convince me I need more things than I do-none of that here. Rich(?) helped me choose the right tire for my car and was extremely friendly and helpful along the way. These guys brightened my day, and did a great job at a great price. Extremely great customer service-for my female friends who don't know a thing about cars, trust these guys to take care of you! I will definitely be back next time I need tires. read more

I went to tire plus on a Saturday looking to a get an allingment for my car. Unfortunately they did not have the the vehicle specs in their computer. I understand that since its a brand new model from the current year so I scheduled an appointment to Monday. The guy working there said they would contact the dealer to get the specs during the day and that they would have it ready by 6pm when I came. Guess What? They didnt even call the dealer until I got there. Horrible customer service, disrespectful with the customer, don't go there. read more
