Husband and I went for lunch on a Saturday, not busy at all. Once seated (by the hostess desk) we were able to order drinks they arrived without much wait. Server came took our food order husband ordered Steak & Eggs with hash browns (breakfast served all day), I ordered fish & chips with coleslaw. It took a great while for us to receive our food (like I mentioned not busy). While we waited for our food there were about 6-7 workers (including our server) standing around talking & laughing at the hostess desk. I would say we waited a good 15-20 mins for our order, they stayed there for that whole time. (I wondered if their manager knew how they were using their time of the clock). Now the food, my husband's steak came out medium well, he ordered it medium and his toast cold (you can see in pictures the butter didn't melt at all). My fish & chips were some of the worst I've ever had. The thick parts of the fish 3 pieces were very tough, not at all flaky. I only ate the ends of each piece. The coleslaw had way too much vinegar and was still dry. The Chile Ristra has since moved back to the food court area, maybe they took the cook with them. Worst service here. When to go eat here at 9pm on Sunday and the food was not good at all. The waitstress was not a good waiter. The waiter by the name Hayley was not professional at all when we asked her for service on the food that was not done right she told us the they were already getting ready to close so I told here then maybe should have at sign at the entrance saying that the not serving anymore but it was only 9pm. Then I asked for the manager. The manager by the name of Bobby was not even a good manager letting her Waitress to tell us to leave if we didn't like it we can leave. Who is she to tell the customer's to leave if she not the owner of the restaurant. And Bobby the manager was very unprofessional too we told him the was going on and he just made it seem like it is what it is. I just arrived in Albuquerque today and was really hungry. The vegan meal was a Salad so I chose fish today. The fish was very oily and bland. My friend said the Tuna melt was decent. The fruit was good. The service was good and well paced. It was close to the end of the business day for them and it wasn't busy. It was a cool environment with relaxing lighting. read more

Where would i start, It was 8/19/2017 this would be my 6th Visit The restaurant is inside Isleta Resort and Casino Hotel I love this place and i always go eat lunch and or dinner here Unfortunately i havent been here for the past 4 months and today 8/19/2017 decided to go back and eat, I check YELP Review wow for 3/4 stars it became 2 now.. I gave them a chance and tried it The main disappointment is the Service it takes forever to be seated (20 mins) it was a dead hour and Server dont have proper time management, The Guy never greeted or smiled. And the phone ringed and he answered and chatted over the phone while us customers are waiting.. Its so slow!!! The servers are a lil bit slow I notice that The Burger Steak is not same anymore Its burn and bitter the rest are ok But i am hoping that they will change and do better next time Plus factor Soup are fresh and Hot Salads are fresh I am so disappointed! read more

Eventhough we were tired of casino food we picked this restaurant and found surprisingly great food and friendly service.

I'm going to give them a 2.5 stars for the effort. They sure to do try their best here. The food is always edible, which as plus. It's yet to be real great but always mediocre. I usually come for the soup and salad bar. Not a bad deal for about $8 or so. I see other people's orders coming out from the kitchen and the food always looks and smells good. Unfortunately I can't speak for the taste. The biggest issue I have with them is the service. It is always so lacking. They're super slow, even thought the place is far from packed and my server never seems to be in a good mood which just makes anything I may ask for seem like such a chore. Not sure that I as the customer should feel guilty for asking for something that is complimentary with our meal? (green chile bread rolls) (tasty and warm served with some fresh creamed butter of sorts) But what do I know. As far as the salad bar goes. It surely does the trick or I wouldn't come back for it. There is always four soups to choose from with options like a green chile chicken stew, clam chowder and a southwestern corn chowder. All tasty and a good ratio of ingredients. Never just choked full of potatoes. Very cold, fancy square plates for the salad and a good basic variety of salad toppings for your creation. We ate here while staying in the Isleta Resort and it was just ok. I had 2 eggs, potatoes O'Brien and bacon. I have a gluten allergy so I gave the toast to my husband. Most places have gluten free bread these days, but I'm definitely not giving less stars for that because I understand not everyone is up to speed. My husband had eggs Benedict, and although I couldn't try it, it didn't look great. My husband said it was good but this was his first meal after being at Fort Bliss for 7 weeks, so his standards were admittedly pretty low--haha!! The Tiwa Cafe is going through growing pains. Right now it's doing well if you get the right people. One night night our manager was Hugo, server was John, and greeter Jordan. We had a small issue with the greeter but Hugo took really good care of us, seated us where we wanted. The menu will be changing to more local fare but this could be a mistake. The menu is good right now and there are too many local places doing local food well. The rumored Monte Cristo sandwich resides here. While playing poker at Isleta Casino, I had a server deliver a BBQ Bacon Burger with fries. I guess they didn't want me to leave the poker game. They told me the food came from the Tiwa Cafe. I saw the bad reviews but I trust my gut, nose and palate enough to give it a try. It was worth it. Atmosphere It's modern, dimly but warmly lit with medium dark wood paneled floors, lighter wood paneled and painted walls, large booths and tables to break up the space. There are a few TVs in the dinning area and plenty of sport-filled TVs in the lounge area. Food The Elk in a Blanket was very good. Burgers are good these days, especially the Mushroom Swiss Burger. The variety of sides is good. Potato casserole is an excellent side. Salad bar is ok. BLT is pretty good. Monte Cristo is greasy, cheesy, dessert, and meaty goodness all in one. Service The front desk was quick to seat us. Our server, John, was nice and attentive. He made good recommendations and got the food out quick. We got Bianca another night and she was fantastic, great smile. Matthew is very cool and attentive. The morning crew is slow. At 6:30A.M., we couldn't tell if the place was open, no staff were visible. Roberta was ok. If there are any issues with service and shift managers do not respond to your satisfaction, speak with the food and beverage manager or even casino manager before you leave. The night shift definitely does better on customer service. Warnings Skip the fries and Asian bowls. Avoid Monday night 2-for-1 prime rib special. They don't know how to cook prime rib. Don't use a gift credit card, for some odd reason not accepted. It's a solid 3.5 stars and only needs a few improvements to make it 4 stars. Keep it up Tiwa Cafe. You're getting better. we eat here at least once every two months or so. It's the salad and location that lures us. Came back on 8/12/18 and was pleased to know that the lousy service hasn't changed, I hate unexpected delights. I was beyond thrilled waiting to be seated while several servers and even a (guessing from his attire) manager, waltzed around. The highlight was being bellowed at from the bar by a server when I asked if we could be seated. "I told you I'd be right there or you can just sit down". Music to my ears. Like a dutiful lackey, I grabbed some silverware and shuffled my party to the table. By this time, a line had formed for customers and people wanting to pay. I was almost tempted to seat them too. this time though may have been the last. The soups were flavorless and of course the service was lackluster. I know there are many who are called to work because they were told to but you occasionally run across wonderful, good hearted people that truly love what they do and make a point to spread holiday cheer to their customers. The staff at the Tiwa Restaurant and Lounge were fantastic. We were visiting family in New Mexico and decided to stay at the Isleta Casino hotel since it was close to where the family lives. We rolled into the hotel and got checked in and looked around for dining options. The Tiwa Restaurant and Lounge was a perfect choice. Although we had Christmas dinner at the restaurant, I want to tell you about breakfast. Light, fluffy eggs, delicious eggs benny, huevos rancheros, corned beef hash and eggs, cinnamon rolls or Belgium waffles, this place hits the spot. Serving sizes were huge, flavors of red and green chile authentic and hash browns adorned every order. Located in the main lobby of the Isleta Casino Hotel, Tiwa restaurant and Lounge is the perfect travel stop for breakfast or a hearty lunch or dinner. The Hotel and Casino is a quick 20 minutes south of Downtown Albuquerque and less than 10 minutes from the Airport. Here's a great plan. Have a great breakfast at the hotel, and have the golf car shuttle take you across the street to the golf course for a wonderful day on the links. This used to be one of our favorite places to go at least once a month for a few years. But recently, last 6 months, we've had problems with the service. We've asked to sit in the bar area on several occasions and he always tells us we can't sit there. Then the waitress takes us back and let's us sit wherever we want. So we notice as we sit in the section he never lets us sit in, he's seating guests in the same area. So this last time we went I finally asked why he was so rude to us, did he think we weren't going to tip? His response was that it wasn't intentional but I don't agree because it happened several times. Needless to say I won't be back until he's gone. I do have a two night stay at isleta for the state fair this week and it's a bummer they hire staff like that. I guess we'll just eat at the ristra. read more

I am giving the restaurant 2 stars for the effort. Our waitress was very very sweet, but slow. It took a few minutes for her to come up and ask for our drink orders, which we weren't at all irritated about; just want to put it out there for those who want to know what service speed was like. They had a pretty good size menu (again effort) but the food wasn't good at all. I took the first bite out of my burger and it was horrible, no seasoning and close reference of taste was tasting like cardboard. I ended up cutting the burger in half and pulling out the patty so I was just eating a veggie sandwich. My boyfriend ate half of his sandwich, was was bland and very rubbery. We asked for a box for both meals, my boyfriend tried a bite of my burger, but we then decided to not even take it with us (I was surprised that even my boyfriend passed it up because 1.he hates wasting food and 2. he's a garbage disposal). We also had the soup and salad bar added to our meal, so the salad I had was decent, just a typical salad. I also got the corn chowder soup, which was mediocre. We don't plan on going back, but also isn't a horrible option for someone trying to get a quick, non quality meal in. *side note: the hotels description of this restaurant was that it is a bbq place. While there were a few bbq options, I would not classify it as bbq. Maybe they have a separate menu for dinner and lunch they just serve standard American food. read more

We went to Tiwa for breakfast on a Sunday. The good news is this place isn't packed and we did not have to wait for a table. The bad news is the food was not all that good. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were dry and and the gravy had a tingle of Palmolive aftertaste. The hash browns were well done but not exceptional. The coffee was super bitter and almost burned. The tortillas were doughy and not all the way cooked unlike a typical fluffy tortilla. The service was great but the food was lacking. Service was good, staff was nice and friendly. We didn't have a long wait in line but I heard the weekend can be about a 30 minute wait depending on the time you come . The fried chicken gets 5 stars! Service was great, the young man who took our order for takeout last night was fast and friendly. Burger- very good but looked like a fancy fast food burger. Fried chicken- very good and it stayed crispy. I had grilled corn on the cob which was great especially considering it's out of season right now. The coleslaw was typical, less sweet and less dresses than typical which I loved. It also had some shredded jicama in it. The cheese pizza tasted like cafeteria pizza. It actually really hit the spot last night because we have both been so stressed this week, kid style pizza was very comforting but I wouldn't recommend it to an adult looking for good food. I think this place probably excels at meat products. I have a feeling the pulled pork might have been spot on and I wish I'd ordered it too! 3 stars but I would totally eat here again. I stayed at the resort for 4 nights and ate at Tiwa 3 times..1st time it took forever to be seated..so much so that a couple in front of me just gave up and left. One I sat the service was really good...my waiter was on the ball, as a matter of fact it was like that all 3 times I was there. I had the chicken burrito with green chili....it came out very fast which scared me but to my surprise it was excellent and tasted fresh...and it was huge I finished about 2/3 of it. Night 2 I just had the salad bar it was clean and well stocked...good job. Night 3 pulled pork which was great but mashed potatoes were cold..yes cold. Decor, atmosphere...meh they really could have put more effort into that dept. If I could have given 3.5 stars I would have read more

So disappointed. I am giving only one star for the ambiance. The food was so bad. My friend and I both ordered the Asian noodle bowl. First off the broth was overly salty. Second there was a whole mushroom, popped it in my mouth omg tasted rotten. The worse thing I ever ate. My friend also had a mushroom. She popped it in her mouth, she almost vomited right then. The waitress proceeded to explain it was a special process they use to prepare the mushrooms. We both said they needed to check them we are pretty sure they are spoiled. Received the check my bowl was not removed from the bill. She did take it off when I pointed it out. My other girlfriends daughter ordered the burger and fries. I tasted the burger so disgusting.
