Ok here is the place to go in NY to get some very inexpensive household necessities, in a luxurious way for the same price as the lower end stuff. On my list of great items have been the Queen size sheets sets, I have found many dozens ( I always like giving these as gifts for Xmas, housewarmings) I am a realtor and have many furnished rentals so I had to find a place to get them for a reasonable cost. My average set cost about 49$ is always at least 300 all the way up tp 800 thread count. If you want to up to 89$ and are lucky you will find the rare elusive egyptian cotten. The bathroom towels are very high end and if your looking for decorative they have tonnes. Another great find at this store is the cooking wear, I have been using my Creuset sets for the past 4 years (when I first found them here), they are not cheap at between 129$-149$ each, but compared to 299$-399$ the reg retail cost, it is. The ones they have here are called second line which when I checked online means the enamel may not be perfect, so they are discounted, but trust me there still perfect for cooking and will last a lifetime. These stores are all over the US, it is a huge chain, but the one in NY is my luckiest for housewear goods for some reason. Try them out and you will sleep and eat well.. read more

TJ Maxx is similar to Marshalls. They have a huge selection of shoes and home goods. I don't really like how the store is laid out or the clothing selection. The customer service is slow and the lines are super long for check out. I prefer Marshalls over TJ Maxx read more

As TJ Maxx locations go, this one is pretty good. You know going into a TJ Maxx that it'll be crowded and messy and have long lines - let's look past that. Compared to other locations, there isn't really anything spectacular about this one, but I've never had any specific complaints about the staff or anything, so that already puts it a step above the rest. read more

I bought all of my winter basic here: cashmere beanie and cashmere sweater. The prices are really good, they were just under $30 which I was hoping for with good quality. I also was able to find Kate Spade collection's bed sets in just about under $50! It was a great deal. Only thing is that in holiday season, the check out lines are long so make sure you visit with some waiting time in mind. Overall, worth coming here for great deals! read more

Of all the NYC TJMAXX's this one is the best. Greatest range of Runway items. Apparently they come in all through the week and any time, so you just have to keep popping in if you want to get lucky. The food section is great to check out if you have guests coming and would like some random gourmet items. read more

Haven't been to this location in years, but went in this week to shop their Runway section of designer goods. This IS still the best location in Manhattan - it's worth bypassing other locations if you really need to shop. Best selection of handbags hands down. Can't give the store five stars because check out is always a disaster, but it's discount shopping so you have to pack patience for great deals. One thing I did appreciate this time is that cashiers were at all registers and two managers came over and stood at either end of checkout making sure it kept moving. I was unlucky and got the slowest cashier working - I think her pace was intentional as she kept wasting time doing things like trying to check every pocket of the handbags I purchased for paper she could remove. This non-elderly (I would've given her slack if age was the issue) woman would hold up a single fold of paper one at a time and ask if I wanted the filler paper left in the bag. The cashier next to us cranked out multiple customers while mine was enthralled with paper. She solidified the loss of the fifth star. read more

This is by far the nicest TJ Maxx location I have visited. It is huge!! They manage to keep it pretty clean despite the high traffic.

You can find some decent deals here if you're willing to dig through the racks. I like to come here often to see what items are new, but usually I leave empty handed because it's hard to find items in my size. But sometimes you get lucky and find that awesome pair of boots or perfect sweater at a really great price. I've also found that their prices are better than Century 21 for the same item...but their selection is not as large. read more

Not my closest location but I like this one better than my nearest. I think it's cleaner and better laid out but it's also the helpfulness and knowledge of the staff, which counts for a lot. Good for stocking up on household items and stuff you forget you need until suddenly you must have. They also have good deals and sales, and if you keep your eye open you can find some top of the line stuff at extremely affordable prices. read more

This store can be chaotic, but it's got a wide assortment of stuff at reasonable prices-- pet toys, kitchen gadgets, candles, pillows, backpacks, toiletries, lingerie, socks, picture frames, workout gear -- even some clothes you could possibly wear to work. Be sure to leave some energy in reserve for checking out, because there is very little chance you are going to make a quick exit. read more

I really love this location of TJ Maxx. A lot of selection despite the tons of people who zoom through this store. I also like a lot of the unique items that you find here at closeout prices. I always manage to score something at TJ Maxx. To touch on the people who complain about cashiers and people not greeting them, it's TJ Maxx!! This place has layaway... In this economy that alone is worth 5 stars -only, the layaway service sucks two big hairy balls which knocks my rating all the way down to 2 -I hate waiting in a line for 30 mins while one employee is forced to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. Meanwhile returns is fast lane apparently fully staffed. I'm still wondering why management wont just move 2 of the 4 returns cashiers (considering there is one person in that line) but whatever LAYAWAY... brings my rating back to 3 stars :P read more

OK. We're Australians and are hard task masters with regard to both shop items and service. But this store is unbelievable. The variety on offer is incredible but, moreover, the service and genuine desire to help on the part of the assistants is a delight - and a surprise - compared to other stores. So much so, that having bought many items yesterday, we returned today and spent some quality time back in the store spending our Ozzie dollars (sadly not offering the exchange rate of one year ago) with glee. MANAGEMENT stealing from store!!! Many people don't like TJ Maxx because the staff can be cold and the store is completely un-organized. Unfortunately, this is what I expect from a store nowadays that is offering me discounted clothing. They don't need to make me feel well-served, they know i need their discounted prices. But anyways, since i expect this from TJ Maxx, this is not my problem. My problem at the Avenue of the America TJ Maxx is the Management. They are rude going on mean and I firmly believe that they are stealing from the store. On one occasion I saw a manager buying about 100 items in the store all marked at $1.00-$3.00 dollars. Nice deisgner items, not socks!!!! Skirts were ringing up as shoes and so on. I searched the entire store and couldn't find a single item that cheap on clearance. On another occasion i was paying at the register and saw a Kitchen-aid hand mixer with a $5.00 dollar clearance sticker and a capressio espresso machine for $20.00 bucks. So I asked if those were anyones. The cashier said it was on hold for the manager. There is no way those items would not have sold on the floor for that price. I went to the back and found the exact same espresso machine, marked full price for $179.99. When I asked why I couldn't get it for the clearance price of $20.00 dollars like the manager I was told the store had received them at different times. There was only one sticker on that clearance machine, and it did not look like it had been sitting around the store. Them anager's at TJ Maxx are experts at making excuses. And no way would a $5.00 kitchen-aid mixer NOT get purchased and just luckily fall into the hands of the manager. Anonymously, a staff member told me that things get "mis-placed/hidden" in the back and the managers (only the managers) miraculously find them when they are ready to be marked down super cheap!!!! read more

The customer service is terrible! I've been there yesterday, got in home department, and found some big dummy doll for interior design. I asked the worker to bring it to casher and put it on hold for me because it's big and heavy and even doesn't fit in my cart. He signed my name and left with my dummy. I walked around in the store about 10 minuets and went to the long line (as usualy). When I finally got my turn, I asked about my dummy which should be on hold. They said - they put it back in home department. I asked: "why? I just asked to put it on hold! I was in the line most of the time and waited my turn to pay". They said: "They put all the stuff back at 9.00 pm (30 minutes before closing). Then I said they should bring it back, because I want to buy it. They called the guy, it too some time until I saw a lady came in the line with my dummy!!! She got my purchase which I asked to put on hold. The staff didn't say anything to her. They said: "I'm sorry, but the lady going to buy it". I picked it up first, I put it on hold, nobody told me anything they can hold it just for 10 minutes, and I didn't get it! Terrible service! This TJ Maxx location has many different departments and a great selection. If you're willing to spend time searching the racks, you can get some good deals. My only complaint is with the dressing room. The policy is that you can take in 10 items of clothing at a time to try on. Anything else you want to purchase must be left in your cart unattended outside of the dressing room. Unfortunately, half of the time I shop at this location, the items in my cart get put back on the racks while I'm in the dressing room. The problem is, the store employees can't tell if the clothes are a shopper's wanna-be purchases, or if an employee or shopper dumped items they don't want there. There is no separate area for people who are in the dressing room to leave the items they either don't need to try on, or are waiting to try on because they can only take in 10 at a time. Today, I had 3 men's shirts I was buying for Father's Day put back while I was trying on women's clothes. I wish the store would designate an area just for the shoppers to temporarily leave their items to avoid the confusion. read more

Great location! I went on a Thursday afternoon around 1 and even then it was really busy! It's pretty spacious (the store is shaped in a big U above B&BW) however it gets a bit crowded when trying to carry a cart around. They had greeters when you entered the store and again upon exiting that were both pleasant. I'd never seen that before at a TJ max. Great experience! read more

Once other TJ Maxx's started opening up around the city, I stopped coming here because I always found the customer service to be rude. I shopped her on 7/23 and regretted it. My purchase came to $29.57. I swiped my credit card and saw I was only being charged 3 cents. I asked her what was going on and she said my card had only 3 cents on it. I have a CREDIT card, not a debit card. I was then prompted to pay $29.54. The cashier said it my credit card company's fault and I had to call them. When I called my credit card company, the customer rep said there was no way they could split a bill. My credit card company is now monitoring the charge. I expressed my concern that this might be scam of some sort. They offered to send me a new credit card. Obviously the cashier did something that messed up my bill. Luckily my receipt shows I was charged twice. Just be careful in this store. I prefer the TJ Maxx near Wall St. There is real customer service there. I will never go back to this store. read more

I live in the Boston area where we have a plethora of great Maxx' and I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I visited this one in NY recently. I expected to find a huge Runway section with all the great designers, because, after all, this IS New York. Instead I found just 2 circular racks, half-filled, with some very mediocre mid-level "designer" clothing. Where were the great high-end names you see in the Massachusetts stores?? I was so shocked at the meager display that I snapped a few photos on my cell to show my friend who's a manager in a Massachusetts store. He would never believe the designer selection in NY was inferior to his in MA. TJX HQ wake up!!: this store is an embarrassment! read more

This was my first time at a TJ Maxx. The customer service was terrible. When I asked for help finding an item, the employees were not willing to help me out. One woman told me she was on a break, the other pretended she didn't hear me. Later, the first woman did come around to help (probably way after her break ended) but by then I had already combed ALL the racks myself so there was no point. Most of the employees looked super pissed off at having to work there. When the store closed and I was heading to the checkout line, an employee told me to leave my trolley since the checkout would be closed anyways. Seriously? So I left the trolley, awkwardly holding all my items, unsure whether I should leave those as well. I got to the checkout counter and they were still helping out customers. As far as items go, I liked the hair and skin care sections the best. Didn't get a chance to check out the home department. There was a good selection of luggage and purses. The clothes were hard to go through because everything was disorganized. Sometimes half the shorts section would be shirts, etc. Everything looked the same even though I didn't rush and went through the entire department. The prices ranged from as low as $10 to $999 on the same rack! I don't really see the point of having a few, scattered, high price items around the store pushed in between all the reasonable priced items. I did not like anything in the shoe section. There was nothing trendy there. I had heard about the intimates section as being adequate but I was unable to find my size (small band, large cup) and the selection, in general, was poor. The entire clothes section was crowded but still seemed picked over, unless that's always the case. Marshall's, downstairs, is also messy and disorganized. Maybe that's just what happens when you throw together all these clothes from different brands without sorting them properly. A pain to get through. read more

Do NOT use this stores delivery service. I purchased a storage unit for $200 there and paid for it to be delivered to my apartment later that day. It was damaged terribly and looks awful. I assumed they would cover it or try to protect it but it was obviously very carelessly done and had it looked like this in store, I would never have spent that kind of money on it. Really poor job. Generally OK here. There is a lot of customer traffic and I think as a result this leaves a lot of the clothes disorganized, on the floor, etc. It makes it more difficult to find your size and browse. My suggestion to the management is to keep on top of this, because I am a little discouraged to return. you know what... it is achaos,.... it really is, you have to spemd there at least 3 hoyrs to find what you are looking for and.. never go there if you are looking for something specific.. but.... it is great!! because if you do spend the neccesary time there you always get some great deco or cheap cloths... and this is what I really like about shopping.. noone bothers you.. and you get some great deals.. got soem nice holiday candles and cook wear... glasses and a cashmere sweater.. all about 100$ total..
