Comparing this store to the others in NYC, it ranks high because of its size and the amount of merchandise. But if you're used to suburban TJs, you'd find this store cramped with minimal aisle space. (As we all know, 'location, location.') I like that there are plenty of cashiers -- check-out is generally quick and organized -- AND that Marshalls is located in the same building. Take the escalator up to TJ Maxx, and down to Marshalls. A few weeks ago I chatted with a fashion merchandiser who mentioned all the lines and stores her company services. When she included TJ Maxx, I said I was surprised. "Don't they get surplus from other stores to discount what hasn't been sold?" "Not necessarily," she replied. "That's what they want you to think!" Hmmm.... doesn't make a difference to me, but I thought it interesting that they have their own lines under different labels. read more

This T J Maxx has saved me a few times, as it is the closest discount shopping store to where I once lived in NYC. In the past, I've purchase from almost every department here for gifts, clothing, kitchen items, home items, organizing items, purses, bath and body, and event luggage. I recently returned while visiting the area again, because I needed a towel and this seemed like the closest place to find one. This store has always been super busy, often with key items sold out. In summer, there were no beach towels left, so I selected a bath towel. The home section is fairly small, but this store is not huge in general, though it does have 2 floors. The line usually goes fast here, which is nice, and items seem to be well organized and put back where they belong often. You enter into the 2nd story, so if you want to shop purses or bath and body, these items might call to you on your way to the stairs or elevator to the lower floor, where the majority of products are. Having to walk past the purses immediately when walking in is a brilliant marketing tactic - I can barely resists diving in and looking something fun and new, just because I have to pass through it, even when I am only there for 1 thing, something NOT on the entrance floor! Likewise, I have to turn a blind eye to bath and body because I can easily get lost here. read more

I have Never experience any problems, I know everyone by name and they were all friendly and did a great job with customers Recently, I have been experiencing problem with one of the Manager's Sabrina more than once. I was returning few items I purchased on the website, the sales person name Ariel kept me for 45 min. He couldn't figure out what to do and how to do it and refused to call manager. I ask him multiple times to invite manager, finally manager show up her self to the rescue me. It was to same 2 items on the receipt and he did not know, he needs to press the 2 key. Avoid Ariel, unless you want to pass out by the register. read more

Made online purchase with Tjmax.com purchased expensive perfume Madison Francis kurkdijan perfume rouge 540- 3 o.37 Oz set. delivery received a few weeks later with closed packaged- 1 out of 3 perfumes missing. callEd Tjmax online customer service spoke with rep who only wanted to return my package without reimbursing me or offering to send a new package escalated to supervisor Melissa who did the same exact thing- she said I can send you a return label you can print out and take to your local fed ex abd we will just do a return. they brushed off my concern did not compensate or offer to place a new package with expedited shipping for inconvenience nor offered any discounts but inconvenienced me to now need to find a printer to print out label and waste my own time and money going to fedex to return item that I was planning on keeping. Attempted to load photos but Tjmax yelp review won't allow. Obvisiously perfume was stolen by coworker who packaged the item it as there were no rips in the packaging of bigger nor smaller bag. Their was no tape on the actual perfume box. loved shopping online have spent thousands of dollars on their online products will stop doing that since customer service is literally garbage. This one is not my favorite but the Marshalls thats at the same location is. The Marshalls doesn't seem to pop up when you search for it on yelp but I have to say that I was mind blown by the selections at the Marshalls. I've never seen so many Steve Madden bags and amazing clothes and shoes in all sizes. Again, I am raving about the Marshalls, not the Tj Max. First off I tried sending a note about my in store experience through the TJ Maxx website and after I hit send it showed that this was a 'Forbidden Request' and did not go through after several attempts I purchased some clothing and had a very pleasant check out experience with the woman on register 9 this morning (1/25). At one point the tag wasn't registering and she had to go and make a new so I could finish being checked out and somehow a security tag was missed being taken off the pants I had purchased and I left the store. Some hours later I discovered the tag and made my way back to the store. I waited in line and was called to register 21 I explained the situation and offered my receipt. He was more concerned with verifying that I bought this at the store as I explained rather than recognizing that due to an error at the store I had to make my way back. It does not take much for someone to say 'Sorry for your trouble' or 'I recognize that you had to make a trip back'. Anything like that and I wouldn't be writing this note. I have to say this left me with a negative feeling about this store and their customer service. I I think management should talk to your employees about this type of negative effect this leaves with your customers. Thank you. read more

If you have some free time while I the New York area you must stop and check out this TJ Max store. For one thing it is super gigantic with so many different brands inside. I couldn't believe how different the things they sell compared to what you can find in California. This was stocked to get you amazing deals!!! I bought so many things from this store from a name branded coat that was red tagged (super discount), to some pretty nice branded flats (attached photos with the review) that I will be wearing soon!! I'm a little addicted to always checking out different stores like these in different states to see what they have. I would only come back here if there was something I really wanted. There were 3 different Gucci bags, 2 Fendi, 2 Prada, 2 Longchamps, 1 Saint Laurent and a few other true designer bags. I don't know if these were past season, but they did look nice. read more

Solid 3.5 stars. This location is always busy, but the staff does a decent/good job of keeping the beauty section organized. There's usually a giant selection of beauty items. I visit for very specific reasons and usually find what I'm looking for. Lines can get very long, but each cashier is pretty quick to check people out. They also care about covid hygiene protocols-sanitized, mask enforcement, and I think they try to keep people socially distant...but that's much more dependent on people listening or not read more

I'm a fan of this TJ Maxx but there are a few areas where the selection is very slim .... shoes, bed and bath. When there is clearance the discounts are very significant and it's a good location to get a few high end items at a decent price. They also have a nice variety of costume jewelry available. I recently went there and a had a very since cashier named Jayant (I believe that was the spelling on her name tag). We had some extra time together because I had an item with no price and it was the only one. Oftentimes when I have to wait at a register for one reason or another the cashier is generally just standing there with an awkward silence (understandable) or they want to complain ... this young lady chatted comfortably without telling me her life story, that works for me! read more

Always a great random selection of designer items at a great price. I was able to score some really nice fragrances as Christmas gifts at an amazing price. I also come here regularly for dog toys, hair care, cosmetics etc that are significantly marked down. I always check expiration dates, just in case but I haven't ever gotten anything that's expired. Don't go in expecting to find certain items, go in with an open mind and you'll find some great deals. read more

Its all about the deals and there is plenty to be found here. Sometimes living in Manhattan will drive people to go to stores like this, as plenty is available: clothes, accessories, even furniture for a cheaper price. Like Century 21, it can be a bit of a mad house here as the lines can be excruciatingly long and one would need to scour deep to find the diamond in the rough. This location was very impressive with all the many levels of health precautions set in place. They count the amount of customers coming in and have a max of about 230. They have hand sanitizer available. They have an employee with warm and happy attitudes and the store was very clean and organized. Based on a conversation the day prior with a friend that throws nickles around like man hole covers, and is sittin' comfy upon a few mil, I thought to give TJ a walk thru having never shopped at one before. I envisioned a lower level second hand store of ugly, outdated and flawed items the first group found unfasionable, with floors covered in shattered hangers and tons of strewn price tags. What I found was the total opposite, fine looking threads from many of the manufacturers I've been overpaying for at their stores and online as well. Clean floors, hangers and tags all affixed to their proper garments. My quick walk thru amounted to an hour and a half and my "just looking" mantra turned into a hundred and fifty dollar receipt, completely worth the money. Just wish I had listened enough to act sooner. read more

I love shopping at all TJ Maxx shops - this one is a little less crowded that most. I just find it a bit annoying that all the cashiers have to pass comments about what the customer is buying as if it's their first day working in this retail giant. There are GREAT prices and this location can get messy at times with merchandise all over the place, but overall it's a great experience and seems classier than most TJ Maxx shops. Their ladies handbag section is HUGE!!! The home decor section is always seemingly under organization and customers are befuddled by the plethora of items along the check-out line, but some of the best deals are still at this spot. read more

Tj Maxx occupies the top floor of this building. This is definitely one of the larger, more well stocked and organized compared to many other locations. I also love the fact that the sister brand, Marshalls is located right in the basement so you can hit up both locations in one shopping outing! What's not to love? If I am in this part of the city I always try to stop by. For a long time I saw this Quirky outlet powerstrip extension cord and I was looking for it for about a year. When I decided I wanted to buy it, I went back to the location I had seen it at and it was already gone. Unfortunately sales occur so quickly at TJ Maxx when you see something you want, it might not be there next time you visit! Fortunately for me, I found the shelves stocked with the extension cord I was looking for, in addition to a good selection of cell phone cases. The handbag section is plentiful as well. I recommend visiting on off peak hours so you have plenty of room to roam about and try on clothes. I enjoy browsing the home and organizational section. Sometimes you can find a real gem like a designer bag you have been eyeing last season or a Manduka yoga mat which is marked as "irregular" but has a small defect. It looked pretty good to me! Still usable. I always make sure to inspect the item before purchasing. I heard the bathrooms are not very clean which does not surprise me (one at Marshalls was terrible I walked right out)- I recommend stopping by Bed Bath Beyond a few blocks away to use their facilities. Theirs is much cleaner. Just another friendly insight- sometimes you can find the same exact merchandise at Marshalls for a dollar or two less (not sure why but I've seen some items at both stores!). Also don't forget to stop by the stationary section for discounted cards - sometimes the seasonal ones are marked down and tend to have cute designs! If you buy a gift card here, you can use it at all the sister brands: Home Goods and Marshalls. A gift card here unlocks a wide range of shopping! I had a return and my receipt was minimally rubbed off only at the bottom (they should use better ink on the receipts to prevent this). The cashier was too lazy to type the number from the bottom of my receipt since he wasn't able to scan it (numbers were able to be read even though 2 of the numbers rubbed off ink) or research my purchase. I like this store, but the lazy cashier makes me not want to even frequent this location anymore. read more

They have some great prices if only you have the patience to dig up good deals. I haven't shopped there in over five years, but remember buying bed sheets and household goods. This is another store that has a suburban feel to it, with its size and general layout. I have always felt this is a format that would not survive in Manhattan. Horrible customer service on multiple occasions. NYC is tough to find big retailers that offer standard levels of customer service you would expect in the rest of the country. Sure they're nice enough with the "hi" and "thank you" but asking for help with anything is a sure way to get on their bad side. I understand the high volumes of customers probably gets exhausting but it's not an excuse to offer no customer service. I am diehard TJMaxx customer. I love a great deal as much as the next person. It's the first place I typically go for ANYTHING! However I recently made a mistake. I purchased a pair of shoes, took the tag off and proceeded to wear them. On the way out of my building I noticed they were ridiculously squeaky. I thought maybe it was just because they were new. As I proceed down the block noticed the inside felt weird. I immediately went home and changed my shoes. I noticed the inside of the soles does not go to the end of the shoe. I obviously can't wear them. I attempted to return them to the store and was told they could not accept them bc I had worn them. (One time for a very short period of time!) I completely understand someone simply changing their mind and not taking them back. I explained the sole situation and offered to show Natalia and she said she didn't need to see it as she wasn't going to take them back. She said they would be out money for the shoes since they're damaged. She said I could sell them online. I explained that's precisely my issue is that they're faulty and no one can wear them which is why they too would be out the money. I explained I did not feel this to be a fair situation as they sold a damaged product with no disclaimer it was a damaged "as is" product. I let her know I would not be able to just "sell them to someone else" in good conscience knowing it's a damaged product. She did not care to hear it and walked off. Very disappointing. The nice cashier apologized and you could tell she felt uncomfortable. I let her know it wasn't her fault. The time before when I was there I had requested my rewards card to be scanned for points. Pereveile said it couldn't be done because they already hit the subtotal. (I had not yet paid) I let her know this had never been a problem before. She had the WORST attitude and dumped all my bags on the counter with stuff falling on the floor saying they needed to start all over. I've never heard of such a thing and when she began to make a scene and the items I wanted getting on the floor I let her know it wasn't worth the effort and I'd just take my things. She responded with the biggest attitude "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" I was appalled. The entire situation was embarrassing, unnecessary and uncomfortable. I'll think twice on visiting this store again, unfortunately, and suggest others to as well. read more

This TJ Maxx is pretty stellar. It's probably one of the largest I've ever seen. Their shoe department goes on for aisles and aisles, and there seemed to be a lot of options. Their dress department, too, was very large. I've never seen so many medium sized dresses in one place. Even though there were a lot of people, it didn't feel too crowded. The check out line moved so incredibly fast that I didn't even have time to complain about it. read more
