Just average - not a whole lot to say. Wait was about 25 mins when we arrived for dinner around 7 PM, but we were seated before our drinks even arrived at the bar. I got one of the Key Lime Martinis that was advertised on the board it was pretty good. Salad bar was empty, which was a disappointment. Someone should be tasked with keeping it tidy & stocked, especially when you're selling it. Just barely enough lettuce to make our 2 small plates and many of the toppings were out (cheese, beets). Our ribeye was slightly under cooked (medium rare, ordered medium) but not enough to send it back. The green beans were totally limp - old or overcooked, not sure which one. Service was fast and friendly though. Things are probably better when it isn't so busy (Labor Day weekend). read more

Last time here I had the chicken fried steak which was good. This time I had my eye on the Pecan Crusted Chicken. It did not disappoint! Will definitely be getting this again. It came with a Pecan gravy that was a perfect pairing. My wife had the one fish plate. Fish was a fried catfish filet, she said she enjoyed it. The service we had was great. Our waitress, Kylie, was very helpful and polite. If she didn't know the answer to a question, she would go out of her way to find out for us (which is how we found out about the half off apps). My husband and I were hiking all morning at the State Natural Area, but I had previously made reservations for Easter Sunday at TJ's. We made it for our 12:30 reservation in hiking gear and no one batted an eye! We were seated in a booth and although it was pretty crowded, our drink order was taken immediately. The ice tea (unsweetened) was delicious! My husband ordered the Easter Sunday Special Deviled Eggs. He loved them. I skipped an appetizer and saved room for a huge steak (see pic below). I ate all of it! I added a sweet potato which was not good at all, and the fries were surprisingly disappointing. You would think that their French fries would be amazing, but they seemed frozen and they were cold. The service was excellent and the hostess was extremely pleasant. Ran across this place when exploring the area for the first time. All staff were friendly, we were seated immediately and Lisa was a sweet and capable waitress. Great beer selection and it was happy hour! Had great meals. I had Parmesan crusted cod, loaded sweet potato and green beans. Everything was served hot and tasty. My husband had a ribeye steak he really enjoyed. Very tender steak with sides of green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. As of late, the food quality is going downhill. Daily specials used to be a treat but now they seem to be a way of getting rid of leftovers. Tonight's special was chicken lasagna that tasted like unseasoned boiled chicken with a puréed tomato and garlic sauce that was watery flavorless, except for the garlic. The side dish was supposedly a potato soup that tasted like week old white gravy, absolutely disgusting! I left all the soup and 90% of the lasagna because they were not edible. The waitress asked if the dish was not good so I was honest with her. She agreed this special hadn't done so well and she would get the manager. Well, the manager apparently didn't want to hear about it and offered to "take care of it" without even coming to the table. When the bill was brought back all she offered was a 25% discount on a meal that was hardly touched and disgusting. I would have been less offended if the manager would have charged full price and had the courtesy of coming to see what was wrong instead of completely ignoring us and giving a meaningless 25% discount. I enjoy riding my motorcycle through the Hill Country, and end up in Bandera several times a year. Although I'd seen this on Main Street, I'd never visited the Old Forge. True to Bandera, this place is all Cowboy. Several seated at the bar looked like they had been riding the pasture all day. The bartender was pouring top shelf whiskey. It's been a while since I had a good steak, so that's what I wanted. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. My ice tea glass was never empty. Keeping up with the rising price of beef, the large ribeye was $30 but I was hungry. The waitress said it came with the salad bar and two sides. The salad bar was great. Lots of fresh toppings. When the steak arrived, it had the perfect char and was still sizzling. I ordered it the way a steak should be, medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Great flavor and big enough to fill me up. My only suggestion to the owner would be that I'm used to steaks that are cut a little thicker. This steak was maybe 3/4 or 1" thick. I think people think they are getting more when it looks thicker. The lunch prices at TJ's aren't bad at all. The Wrap It Up - a huge flour tortilla wrap consisting of romaine lettuce, a tasty creamy caesar dressing and your choice of blackened or grilled chicken, or grilled veggies (I chose the grilled veggies). This thing was the size of a large burrito and packed with flavor. $9 and it included really tasty fries (kind of steak fry style) seasoned perfectly with salt, and a bit crispy on the outside but not overcooked as to be crispy and crunchy all the way through - these were REALLY good fries! The Southern Style Meatloaf lunch portion includes a generous serving of their world famous meatloaf smothered in a brown gravy, mashed taters, and green beans all for $8.75. I was told the meatloaf is what this place is known for. Yes, it was VERY tasty, and I would recommend it to anyone, but I wouldn't say it's "to die for." The green beans were good too, but the mashed taters were on the coldish side and seemed to be instant potatoes. Which we were assured they were not. We asked to replace it with a different side, and upon hearing the options, we decided on a side salad from the salad bar. However, they didn't remove the charge for the cold taters that weren't eaten. Instead, I was charged an additional $3.95 for a substitution. Shame on me for not looking closely at my bill. Service = A+ They have beer and a full bar. However, they seemed to be out of a lot of the draft beers. I ordered one, then they came back and told me they were out of it, ordered a second, and the same thing happened. Finally, my third choice was available - YAY beer! The atmosphere is rustic, Texas style - very casual, but clean and fun. It seems to be a good place for steaks, comfort food, seafood, and more. They have plenty of choices for everyone and there's only a handful of places open on Sunday afternoons after 3pm in this town, so stop in if you find yourself in the area. read more

Turned out to be okay food but the bill was over the top for the quality and quantity we ordered. When we left we said we'd never be back. This was about a year ago and.. true to our word... we haven't been back. There are other places in Bandera that have a better selection of food fare that aren't priced for the Rockerfeller's. I don't want to get too down on the place- but what was I paying for? The atmosphere was log cabin chic and the limited menu not very appealing to us. Strikeout.
