TJ's pizza is one of my most favorite pizzas of all. Pizza is my favorite food, and I have tried many pizza around the U.S., France, Italy, Spain, and Costa Rica. There are several sauces and specialty pizzas you can chose from at TJ's. A really good pizza is the cheeseburger pizza. I get the marinara and get a side of the rosemary cream sauce. Let me start by saying that I do not consider this to be gourmet pizza, even though they call themselves "Denton's Gourmet Pizza". However, they do have quality items on their menu for very friendly prices. That being said, here are my thoughts: My boyfriend is a wing connoisseur and always raves about their wings here. They marinate and then smoke them before tossing them in one of their signature sauces. He always gets them in the nuclear sauce- the spiciest they have to offer. I don't care for wings much and even I like them. If you are a taste masochist like me, then these will knock your socks off! Order extra for left overs- trust me. They are THAT good. Touching back on the "gourmet" issue, these I would consider gourmet. We always order a standard large pepperoni pizza with onions and an order of cheese bread. The dough is just the way I like- soft, tender and chewy. YUM! You can tell they use quality ingredients. The service here is also very friendly! We always get delivery and the drivers are all very pleasant. Every time I order I ask for red pepper flakes. Most recently I forgot to ask and to my surprise when I opened the box I was delighted to see a healthy side of red pepper flakes! I'm not sure if this is a standard condiment that they include with your order upon request or not, or if they remembered me and made sure I got them, but kudos to them for remembering the RPFs along with my bazillion other sauces and sides... Nothing is worse than ordering sauces with your meal and not receiving them. They NEVER forget anything- our order has always been perfect. All in all, everything here has always been consistently outstanding for the middle-grade type pizza place. TJs has become our go-to for our late evening comfort food cravings. Was not impressed at all. The mozzarella sticks weren't crispy, they had the texture of fish sticks. I had a small, thin crust pepperoni pizza and to be honest, it barely surpassed the quality of the pizza at my college's dining hall. Some positives: Food was cheap, delivery cheaper ($.75!!!). It also arrived much faster than the expected delivery time and the driver was very nice. I also had the garden salad with ranch dressing, nothing special, it's hard to screw up a salad. Would you like a pizza with your garlic? Oh yes, most definitely, yes. With an option to add double, triple and quadruple the amount of toppings on your pizza--and what a huge selection o' toppings to choose from--what's not to like? I am happy to declare that TJ's doesn't skimp when you ask them to pile it on. And with this level of customization, I'll be happy to give them my money--even it it's not really "gourmet". Pizza doesn't always agree with me and I eat it infrequently, but TJ's may just change my gut microbiome enough to be more compliant. I've enjoyed their garlic chicken alfredo and their spinach alfredo pizzas, all heaped with love with my fave toppings, including anchovies. My only complaint would be that the spinach didn't taste fresh (more like frozen) and ended up soggy from the weight of too many other toppings--yes, I was a little bit over-ambitious with the 4x toppings. But I would be remiss in not stating that some of the best SMOKED chicken wings can be had here at TJ's. A little more health friendly? You betcha, but TJ's cooking method doesn't compromise the taste. Let me clear this up--you're not going to get that same taste as fried chicken wings. Garlic parmesan, lemon garlic and sweet & spicy are all winners in my book. And try dipping some of that garlic parmesan chicken in their basil pesto sauce--zomg, heavenly. Creamy rosemary sauce also gets my vote. Online ordering has made TJ's a no-brainer when it comes to planning meals or satisfying the munchies, especially when the cravings hit past midnight. I've sent in several orders without experiencing a hitch, and even paid a personal visit onsite, and had nothing but good, attentive service. I would be lying if I said I didn't think about TJ's ALL THE TIME. Sadly, my HealthyWage bet is on the line, and TJ's Pizzas and Wings are partly to blame for my miserable lack of weight loss. read more

I just arrived into town after driving for ten hours and was pooped so I didn't feel like going and finding something to eat. Yelpl it is! And I found this place and the ratings were very varied but I like to support local businesses so I thought I would give it a try. I placed the order online which was great and then I had to call to add garlic on to the pizza and the guy was super nice. Delivery driver was very nice too although I could tell he was in a rush. Which is good. The pizza, really, sucks. I ordered the shrimp and bacon (and added on garlic) and it's just really not good. I think they forgot the bacon. Nice amount of shrimp though and the salsa on top is good. But as a whole it's just really bad. I did get thin crust so I didn't think it would be super moist or anything but I'm having to take a drink with every bite because I'm choking on it. Luckily I also ordered the nuclear wings because of a couple other reviews I read on here. Holy crap are they delish! Hands down the best cooked wings I've ever gotten. They really do fall off the bone. My only disappointment was their version of "nuclear". Here I was, super excited because I'm a total spice whore and I'm in Texas thinking it would absolutely blow my mind! I was wrong. Barely any bite to it. You could probably (I would at least) give the sauce to a toddler and they would dip food in it. However, that doesn't change the fact that the wings were perfectly cooked and I could tell they would be great flavors. Final answer, no for pizza. It's really bad. At least this one is. YES for wings!!! But if you really like spiciness and want to be in tears with your mouth numb and tears running out of your eyes, you'll be let down. Bring your own bottle of Sriacha. read more

Seriously delicious pizza. I worked here over a year, and I would still eat the wings and pizza any day. That alone should tell you this place is amazing. I got quite fat eating TJ's every day but oh man was I happy. What makes it different is the cheese.. they use higher grade cheese than your average chain, which accounts for the price difference. They have a pretty large menu though, including stuff for all you vegans and vegetarians out there. I think the pesto sauce with goat cheese is pretty tasty myself, and recommend it over the alfredo sauce.. but I love the tomato too. I'd recommend getting the college guide and using their coupons for TJ's, or always asking what their coupons/specials are. Regular prices are kind of steep, so make it worth your while! They also have a 15% discount for students, so show them your ID. There's always a high turnover for staff, but the ones that stick are seriously rad people. I miss them greatly. If you're drunk at midnight and want someone to take you a goat cheese pizza with lemon pepper wings, this is your place. Also.. New York cheesecake... plain, strawberry, or chocolate. If you're reading this, prepare yourself to cancel your dinner plans and order from here. Their wings are GOOD. Like really good. Like I had always hated wings until I had them from here good. I've only tried the BBQ though, as I'm still not branching out into other flavors yet. Baby steps.They smoke their wings to perfection. Expect to have an 8pc order...per person. They are addicting! The Veggie Wedgie is awesome (add sauteed garlic spinach!), but my top fav is the Maui Wowie (or White Knight) as it is rightfully nicknamed. It's covered in yummy Alfredo sauce, ham and pineapple and high quality Grande mozzarella. Not that plastic trash you'll find elsewhere. The cheeseburger calzone is also THE BOMBBB. My favorite pizza is a hybrid of two of their specialty pizzas. I order a pesto base with chicken, spinach, garlic, onions, and goat cheese. It's my favorite comfort food from Denton, and the delivery is usually pretty quick and reliable. Sure, this is a little more expensive than pizza from a major chain, but I'd be willing to classify it as about ten times better than Papa John's or any chain. read more

TJ's Pizza is my go-to place when I'm stuck at work and I forgot to pack a lunch. The food is DELICIOUS and really cheap. Delivery takes 30-45 minutes, but it is worth the wait. The small sandwiches are definitely enough to make a meal out of, and my girlfriend and I split a large for lunch the other day (Chicken Pesto Sub with all the veggies from the Veggie Artichoke) and we definitely did not go hungry. The only reason I don't order TJ's every shift is the $10 minimum on delivery orders. If I had a little more foresight I'd arrange for pick-up, but work-bound hunger always sneaks up on me for whatever reason. read more

I'm a huge fan of their pizza, but I recommend going to the restaurant instead of delivery. The first time I ordered from here I chose the delivery method and my pizza came in under the set delivery time. The delivery guy was sweet and my food was AMAZING. I decided to give them another shot, actually because I was trying to turn a friend on to the place but here I am an hour later with no pizza. The place is 7 minutes away for crying out loud. I tried calling to complain but there is no actual person you speak to, just an automated system. Left a complaint with management through their line but who knows when I'll hear back. All I wanted was a quick lunch before work and to convert a friend to good food but instead I have to scramble together a PB&J so I won't be late. We ordered a large cheese pizza, wings, and a meatball sub and got it delivered. It was $30, and the pizza was not very good. I didn't like the pizza because it didn't have very much cheese or even really taste like cheese pizza. The wings and sub were only mediocre, but not good enough to make up for how pricey they were. I was really excited to give this place a try because my friend recommended it, but it just disappointed me. I called and placed an order to take out. It took them almost thirty minutes to get my pizza finished. Really!!? What was going on TJ? I ordered BBQ chicken pizza and it was just alright. It was just a little dry. Honestly, I like Domino's, Papa John, and other pizza chains more. It is also a little more expensive here than Domino's either. I have never tried their wings so I can't complain about it. It's been forever since I've had TJs pizza and from what i remember last I thought it was good, but nothing amazing. Here in the last two weeks I've had it twice and each time was blown back with how great it was. I really do mean spectacular pizza! First off i met the owner at an event that had several other pizza companies there to see who had the best pizza. Out of about six companies he was the only one who stayed around and gave out prizes and answers questions. Super friendly guy! Not to mention he won the best pizza award. There are a lot of different pizza places in Denton and several that are quite good, but it's hard not to take your business here when you know that you will get a great pizza with an owner who really cares about his business. Only reason this place hasn't got 5 out of 5 stars is because of the first time i had it(good but nothing amazing). This was the first pizza place I went when I first came to Denton. It was recommended and I know why. The different special pizzas are great- I loved the four-cheese especially because of the garlic and I loved that they had pizzas that actually tasted good with Artichokes and Chicken etc. since some places don't do that well and it can be so delicious. Unfortunately, they changed their menu and while you can still build whatever you want, the special pizzas are no longer listed. I absolutely love this place but DO NOT order online! I placed an order at 900pm online. The confirmation received stayed the estimated delivery time was 45 minutes. I absolutely understand that it's Saturday night in a college town and that it was just an estimate but the estimate is not even close. It has now been almost two hours and I finally called to make sure everything was ok. The person who answered the phone expressed that they are very busy and my pizza was leaving soon. And asked if I still wanted it. Of course I still want it but this is ridiculous. When I placed the order, I provided a phone number and an email address. There is no reason why they can't communicate delivery time differences in some way, text, voice recording call, something. I'm not saying don't order from here because I have for over 12 years and they are awesome but call so you can plan realistically on when the goodness will be delivered! UPDATE Order finally delivered. Pizza was cold and the wings were freaking hot instead of mild. Big let down and a big reconsideration if I will be going here again. Too bad. read more

Went back a second time not long after my first experience. Got wings and a half sub. First, the wings are good, as others mentioned on here. The way they're smoked isn't like your typical buffalo wing at a sports bar. It's not crunchy and smothered in sauce, but the flavor is great and the meat falls right off. Different, although not necessarily my first choice. But that's a preference thing for me more than the quality. I also got a half of a meatball sub. Good, not spectacular. Again, the ingredients seem legit, but for some reason it's not registering more for me in the "wow" department. Not sure why that is. Overall, this place isn't bad. So I have been ordering from this place for months now and can say they have killer wings. Problem is, for whatever reason, they no longer will sell me all flats in an order of wings. I means if hot wings are part of the name of your business, and they are Damn good, one would imagine that they would cater to requests like all flats or drums. I've really never had a bad pizza from here. I'm all for consistency and a vast selection! Tj's is the only place that delivered in my area that wasn't a chain. The pizza and wings are top notch! This place really comes in clutch when you need a late night delivery. You can't really eat at the store due to no seating but there are two tables outside you can eat at. The price here isn't bad but if you order delivery it usually takes 45 minutes - an hour due to high demand. This should be your go to delivery place for a drunken 1 am pizza! read more

Although this is a pizza place I feel like the wings are the star of the show. The wings are pretty big in size and are smoked. If you looking for wingstop/hooters fried wings then look else where. The wings are smoked and literally fall off the bone. They have a distinct flavor that no other wing place I have tried can match. The pizza is very average and not very impressive. Update: idk what happened with this place but it's not what it used rato be. I ordered a goat cheese pizza online and after 40 minutes I called to see if they were still delivering the pizza. They told me that I ordered half meat all half goat cheese and that's NOT what I ordered. When I told them that they said that it my fault because it's "a very specific order" and they couldn't of messed that up. After fighting with them for a while I gave up and asked when my $30 order was gonna be delivered, they said soon and it's been an hour and a half later and I still haven't received anything. The lasagna tasted like a plain mozzarella stick, the wings were flavorful but dry and the calzone was pretty good. Tj's has changed locations and they've revamped the menu. The prices are comparable to the prices they had on their old menu, but they're now including homemade sauces and fresh vegetables as a part of their preparation, opposed to canned spinach and mushrooms of times past.
