Sutter Street Steakhouse is an incredible place to dine. My wife and I chose this place for our 18th anniversary dinner and we absolutely enjoyed the food. As a high-end restaurant, Sutter Street Steakhouse delivers when it comes to food quality and taste. I had the New York steak and it was cooked exactly to medium with a nice outer crust. The inside of the steak was uniformly pink with the beef being tender and juicy. It was a top notch New York steak. New York steak is my favorite cut and I've had my fair share of them, this one is certainly great. With the steak I chose to go with a baked potato and some asparagus. The baked potato was LOADED cheese, sour cream, and bacon. It was massive maintained a nice fluffy texture. The asparagus came in a pretty large bunch and had a surprising sweet balsamic drizzle that accompanied it. Since I'd consider this a more high end place, the prices do reflect that. Thankfully the portions are large and we had to take some it of home with us. As good as everything was, I did find the food a little on the heavier side. I ordered some horseradish sauce along with my steak and was thankful I did because without it I think everything may have been a bit too rich. Made a same day reservation for 7pm on a Sunday for a nice date night and let me tell you that Sutter Street did not disappoint!! Our server, Shane, really blew it out of the water. He was super informative and knowledgeable about everything on the menu, as well as super personable-as someone who also works at a steakhouse, it was SO refreshing. You can always tell when someone appreciates where they work! We ended up getting an appetizer and drinks. I got the filet, and my boyfriend got the New York. This is the best Filet I have ever had. It was melting in my mouth, even my boyfriend was jealous of my steak! We both asked for our steaks rare and the cooks delivered! We like them still "mooing". When my boyfriend mentioned he wanted the seasonal vegetables, Shane told us that they were currently in between their seasonal ones, so he had the cooks whip us up a unique array of sautéed squash and tomatoes-so good!!! At the end of our meal we were recommended espresso martinis-they were delicious... and went well with our dessert :) The owner also checked in with us during our meal and was so nice! It was just ok... the steak was delicious (which is their signature)... the oysters were good (but not exciting)... the shrimp cocktail was ok... shrimps were hard - I think overcooked. We also had really good mashed potatos. There was a roasted garlic on the plate... there is a reason why those aren't typically served in restaurants... messy and covered in sticky garlic paper... I will never think it is ok to charge $12 for a kids meal with 3 boring chicken strips (that look like they came from Costco) and fries... bread was late to the game... we had to request it when our food came. It was a good sourdough but not the type of bread you request seconds of. We closed out the meal with a lava cake because our little loves them... tasty deep and rich chocolate but no lava spilled out. We arrived at 5:00 there was no line and at first they said it would be 2 hours without a reservation... then they let us sit in the lobby and eat... we were seated within 10 minutes ... but out there we got gnats in the wine and dessert... Folsom doesn't have many Resy options -- Sutter Street Steakhouse, Iron Horse Tavern at Palladio (not great, not worth it), and Bella Maci (haven't tried yet). Sutter Street ended up being just okay. SERVICE AND AMBIANCE: Our server, Zach H, was great, friendly and attentive the whole time. The ambiance though was questionable. My partner and I are a gay couple, and he had on short shorts (nothing crazy, maybe 5" inseam), nothing that should've warranted attention. But we both noticed a guy at a nearby booth staring us down repeatedly, and it made the evening uncomfortable. I've always thought of Folsom as pretty open minded, so this caught me off guard. Not really a "food" issue, but it definitely affects whether I'd come back since the clientele is part of the overall experience. Mind you we weren't doing anything, I think the "short-shorts" just caught folks off guard? But come on, it's was also 91º that day in Folsom and there was no dress code anyways. FOOD: Oysters (1/2 dozen, $28): DO NOT ORDER THESE. They were TINY, not worth it at all. See my photos! Our server did check on us when they came out, and I got the vibe he knew they were small too. We were being polite and said they "packed a punch", but I honestly felt scammed paying $28 for that half dozen. I actually wish I said something because it was so small. But I've been to a lot of steakhouses, so when I read locals raving about this place on Yelp I got hyped up. It wasn't bad, just "okay," or as GenZ would say, "mid." A truly good filet is Mastro's, or if you want real meat, House of Prime Rib in SF, or Epic Steakhouse. Even Fleming's, and that's a chain, makes a better filet IMHO. Salmon Special (partner's meal): He's not a huge foodie but he enjoyed it which that made me feel better since it's his birthday dinner after all. OVERALL REVIEW: I'm giving Sutter Street Steakhouse 2 stars (maybe 2.5 if Yelp let me). We had a great server, but all in we spent a little under $300 for two people including tip. We were also celebrating my partner's birthday, and while they do offer a free dessert, we upgraded to the banana cheesecake and figured they'd knock something off since we skipped the freebie. Even with a reservation, we still had to wait a little bit on a Saturday night to be seated. TONS of food, which was nice (especially for the price)! both steaks were ordered medium rare; the filet was cooked as ordered and the rib eye was on the medium/medium well side. however, the major bummer with the rib eye was the menu states well marbled but the steak gas VERY fatty when you're paying $62 for a USDA prime, "well-marbled" (per the menu's description) steak, the last thing i'd expect is to describe the steak as more fatty then marbled. the sides were great; the garlic mashed potatoes with the soy wasabi sauce were incredible! SERVICE our server started out very attentive and progressively we saw him less and less throughout the night; waiting for the check, needing water refills, etc. i get that everyone has busy tables and the F&B industry is having a tough time, but dang. at a place like this, i'd expect top notch service throughout the dining experience! AMBIANCE it's very nice inside. super cool bar when you first walk in. lots of spacious seating so you're not sitting on top of one another and modern decor. after having worked in F&B, i totally understand the industry; some nights people call out, larger parties consume the kitchen, etc. but for the price, nothing really seemed to blow us out of the water :( hopefully it was just a bad night that we went. it has a great reputation for a reason! hoping the next visit is a better experience! read more

I had a fantastic time at Sutter Street Steakhouse. It was a wonderful place to celebrate my mom's birthday. The ambiance is very relaxed with dim lighting and dark colored decor. We went to dinner with a party of 10 and arrived early. We sat in the bar area while we waited for our table to be ready and the service was quick. Once our table was set we were seated and Jessica (FANTASTIC waitress) let us know of the specials for the evening. Because we were such a large party, I got to try so many dishes on the menu. Every appetizer was delicious except for the calamari which was not quite to my liking. Some sides left me wanting a little more seasoning, but overall they were great. My favorite appetizer was the warm brie & bacon jam, it is an absolute MUST TRY! The onion rings were crispy and flavorful and oysters were fresh and accompanied by 3 sauces. Brussels sprouts were a great texture and paired well with the hot honey and feta. That being said, the salmon and every steak we ordered were cooked to PERFECTION! You cannot go wrong with any of their proteins. The succotash paired with the salmon was herbaceous and a great texture. Steaks were tender and juicy. Cocktails were good. I had a lemon drop with tequila and a huckleberry lemon drop martini which I greatly enjoyed! Overall I would definitely come again and I think this restaurant is a great spot for date nights! As for large groups be prepared to pay added gratuity and I do not believe they split checks at dinner. Perfect place for a date or any special occasion! I would say this is my favorite place for steak in or near Sacramento. My go to is the 14 oz. Certified U.S.D.A. Prime Rib Eye, cooked medium ($60). It is always cooked to perfection, meat is juicy, and rich in flavor. Huge proportions btw! I can never finish it all in one go, (although my bf happily can) I enjoy eating it again the next day :D. The steaks always come with a side of mashed potatoes and herb compounded butter, which are delicious. They are very generous to give you a whole melt-in-your-mouth garlic for your meal, and if you are a garlic lover, you would love this lol! Service is amazing, servers are always attentive and super kind. We came here for our anniversary, and the servers offered us a chocolate lava cake on the house! It was soo good!! The lava cake was topped with vanilla bean ice cream sitting on a plate drizzled with salted caramel. If you have room for dessert, you should defiantly try it! Note: they have a parking garage under the restaurant, and there is an elevator that leads directly to and from the restaurant. We moved from Los Angeles to the Sacramento area and spent over a year searching for a restaurant with the quality and service we were used to. Sutter is that place. We first walked in without a reservation and sat at the bar, where Shane took care of us -- attentive, knowledgeable, friendly. He made the whole experience. Since then we've gotten to know more of the team, including Jessica, and the service has been consistently outstanding every visit. The food is the best in the Sacramento area -- steak, seafood, drinks, and dessert are all excellent and comparable to Los Angeles restaurants. The one note of feedback is that the steak quality can occasionally be inconsistent between visits, but the staff, atmosphere, and overall experience more than make up for it. They are so fresh, they have all the perfect sauces to go with them. Truly I have continued to go back to this restaurant for the oysters alone. Haha! The lobster is really really good as well. It's soft and buttery and everything that I would want from a lobster. I had my first espresso martini here (which is crazy I know) and this place made me wish that I had been ordering espresso martinis since I turned 21. The restaurant was clean and well decorated, I like the wine cellar in the middle of the dinning room. We ordered drinks from the bar before we were seated and all of our drinks were really good. The service was great our waiter Chase was on point the whole night and he took really good care of us. The food was really good, I ordered the 14oz Ribeye medicine rare, which was cooked perfectly. Was here on NYE'25 so may have not been fully representative of a normal night. With that out of the way I'd give the food and ambiance a C+. I ordered a ribeye steak (medium rare cook) for $62 bucks that came with a side of mash. I also ordered a side of potato cakes that was delish but colder than I would have liked. I sat on the patio and the heaters do not provide adequate heat so you will be given blankets. Service was mediocre and the bill for two was ~$200 with wine. Anyone that isn't giving this place 5-stars either have unrealistic expectations, or is doing something wrong... we travel all over and eat at the best steakhouses. We recently celebrated a family birthday at Sutter Street Steakhouse and, unfortunately, left disappointed. Our bill for four people was just under $400, and the overall value simply didn't match the price. I ordered the 14 oz. ribeye and was surprised when it arrived. It was only about a half-inch thick and looked more like a flat steak than the thick, well-marbled ribeye I was expecting. For the price, I anticipated a much higher-quality presentation and cut of meat. One thing that stood out throughout the evening was the number of unexpected up-charges. My entrée came with garlic mashed potatoes, and since I'm not a fan of garlic mashed potatoes, I asked the waiter if I could substitute a baked potato. He said, "No problem," but never mentioned there would be an additional $6 charge. It wasn't about the six dollars, it was the lack of transparency. The same thing happened with my beer. I ordered one at the bar before our table was ready for $8. When I moved to the dining table, I assumed it would simply be added to our dinner bill. Instead, I was charged $11 for the beer at got at the bar. We also brought our own birthday cake. I understood there would be a cake-cutting fee of $2 per person for our party of four. However, the bill reflected a $12 charge instead of $8. Again, not a huge amount of money, but it reinforced the feeling that every opportunity for an extra charge was being taken. There wasn't even a simple "Happy Birthday" from the staff, which made the fee feel even less justified. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and the service was friendly, but the steaks were average at best. For nearly $400, I expected a dining experience closer to what you'd receive at a premier steakhouse, with exceptional food and presentation. Instead, the meal reminded me of what you could find at many good mid-priced steakhouses for considerably less. Overall, Sutter Street Steakhouse has a pleasant setting, but the value simply wasn't there for us. Between the average steaks and the unexpected charges, I left feeling that the experience didn't justify the $400 price. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

It's always a treat when Shane is our server he's consistently kind, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Tonight's experience stood out even more. There was a special on the menu, and I couldn't decide between trying it or sticking with my usual order. Shane went above and beyond by asking the kitchen to put some of the special sauce on the side so I could try it with my steak. That extra level of thoughtfulness really made the evening feel special. As always, the food was amazing. The steaks are perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the potatoes are always creamy and delicious. Whether you're planning a date night or just looking for a great meal, this place never disappoints. They also take reservations, which is a big plus. We had a very enjoyable dinner at Sutter Street Steakhouse with several friends. It is their favorite place for date night and after our dinner, it will definitely r on our list. The restaurant is tucked in Old Folsom not far from the river. It's very roomy inside without allot of noise. There is also plenty of spacing between the tables so you're not crowded. Obviously, we all got steaks and also lobster tails with a side or two and although we were hungry, it was plenty of food and was cooked to perfection! The staff made great suggestions and they were very helpful and checked on us several times. We saved some room for some crème brûlée as well. We loved it there and will be back! read more
