I got the breakfast enchiladas which honestly were not very pretty to look to at, but it came with an egg and a bit of avocado and tasted really good! Also came with a side of beans but those were a little too salty for me. For those who are sensitive to spice, fyi the green sauce they put on the enchiladas is quite spicy. The wait might be long but the food is always worth it. This is my go-to spot for brunch because the food and cocktails are consistent and always delicious. The staff are quirky and very friendly -I prefer the Ferndale location to the location in Birmingham due to this reason. Keep in mind that the prices are on the higher side (~$40/person for a cocktail/entree), however, the portions are usually enough to take leftovers and I don't mind paying extra for quality food. Toast is delicious! We had amazing service. My husband and I skipped the long weekend brunch wait by sitting at the bar and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We ordered their hot chocolate and WOW! We got to see the person make it and she put so much love and care into this delicious treat and we could taste the love! I came here for a weekend trip to Ferndale because I had heard the food was the best brunch around and it did not disappoint. I recommend calling ahead or putting your name in early as there was a 45 min wait on a Sunday but the food was with it. There were too many yummy options to choose from so naturally we ate too much. The Garden Mary was delicious and they made it extra spicy like I asked. I'm also huge fan of fried green tomatoes which were hard to find but they have them here and they are fried so perfectly. Stopped by Toast on a beautiful Saturday. We sat on the patio and it was gorgeous!! I had an omelet with caramelized onions, sausage and cheese. My onions were a bit sweet, but the onion/sausage bites were a perfect balance. The home fries were perfect. I'll be thinking about them for awhile. My toast and strawberry jam were delicious. We also ordered a cinnamon roll but I personally would not recommend it because it was kind of dry and they used a syrup instead of a glaze on it which threw me off. The food was delicious and service was prompt, courteous and helpful when I had a couple of questions about the menu. Their menu offers traditional breakfast and brunch fare but in an elevated way that made it impossible to choose just one item for brunch. They also offer some unique dishes like bacon fried rice (one of their most popular dishes) and a strawberry cheesecake waffle that made me wish I had four stomachs so I could try everything...guess this just means I'll have to go back! We ended up deciding on: 1. Biscuit and Gravy to start (house made biscuit & turkey sausage gravy). This was a sign of good things to come. The biscuit was split, lightly toasted and would've been delicious on its own but it was enveloped in an umami-filled turkey sausage gravy that was not heavy, not overly salty, and had just the right amount of fresh cracked pepper. 2. Orange-glazed, poppyseed brittle, and blueberry topped pancakes - I can't even describe this. Fluffy, flavorful, and different. I want more of those poppyseed brittle pieces! 3. Corned beef hash - this sounds boring but that is the furthest from the truth. The hash was perfectly crisp and the corned beef plentiful. I had two really perfectly done over-medium eggs on top of it and it came with toast of choice (rye). It's no wonder this is listed under their favorites...I'm going to have problems deviating from this. 4. I stopped in based on the Yelp reviews on a Friday morning. It was packed around 11am! Packed to the point of a 10-15m for a table (luckily I snagged one at the bar). It's a cool little place and service was fast and friendly. The cup of coffee was smooth and kept flowing. Unfortunately, my meal was subpar and brought down this visit. Keep in mind, this is based off one menu item and I am certain there are some tasty things on the menu, just the veggie poutine (which came so highly recommended by the server) was NOT it. The veggie poutine was oversalted to the point where I'm cringing just thinking about how much sodium I downed. The fries used did not seem like they were made in house, but instead were pre processed and purchased (and probably cooked from frozen). The cheese curds in this dish were totally unnecessarily fried and the gravy (which was the only redeeming point of this poutine) was too concentrated in the center. Way too much sodium, because: the already salted fries had additional salt tossed on top. The fried cheese curds were ridiculously salty and the gravy had a fair amount of sodium in it too (although if it was just the gravy it could have worked). The poached eggs were nice and runny and not overcooked. The veggie sausage was of course super salty too. The server never checked in with me on how my meal was, although I probably would not have gone into it with him. All in all, the veggie poutine was a disappointment and at $14 quite a lot of money for two eggs and some fries with some gravy... I'd return and try something else, but would not recommend this dish. read more

Went there with a friend for brunch and we ended up just eating the breakfast potatoes and a piece of toast bc whomever is cooking in the back, needs to go back to culinary school. FOOD ALLERGIES BEWARE! I am by no means telling you not to eat here. Their food is delicious and I will happily change my rating if this issue is properly corrected. I ordered a dish from them for delivery. I specified to leave out green peppers due to a food allergy. Luckily for me, my allergy is not deadly, but serious enough to need to be careful to avoid. While they certainly DID leave out the ingredient, a couple pieces of the allergen food still showed up in my dish. This means they treated my food allergy not as an allergy but as a simple request to leave out the ingredient due to preference. Absolutely zero protocols for handling food allergies in the kitchen were followed and serious cross contamination occurred. I understand that not every kitchen has the ability/training/manpower to ensure that cross contamination does not occur, but this needs to be posted on the website and on the menu so that those with serious food allergies know. read more

"Time time time see what's become of me..." I have becoming to this spot for about 10 years now, maybe even longer and what started out as good breakfast and coffee has turned into a deliciously elegant breakfast and coffee. While I couldn't tell you of the decor has changed much (I don't think it has), once you tuck yourself into one of the corners or if you're lucky you get slide into a booth or even luckier yet, the weather is good enough to sit out in the little alleyway have a Parisian style experience, you're going to have a fantastic experience. I ordered the chicken and waffles Benedict while my PIC ordered the lemon poppyseed waffles. We usually split and share our meals so it was a perfect combination of savory and sweet for our palates. Starting with the Bennie, the chicken and waffle were both perfect. They both had the perfect crunch, yet also the perfect texture. The maple syrup added a touch of sweetness. If I have a complaint it is the Hollandaise. Way too watery and not enough flavor. I would prefer they use a Knorr packet. On the flip side, the bacon fried rice was spectacular. I mean it was terrible for my low carb diet, but it was heaven in the mouth. The real surprise is the lemon poppyseed waffles with the blueberry coulis and topped with whipped cream. This was hands down the best waffle I've ever had bar none. I probably could have eaten it absolutely plain and loved every bite. Bonus points for fantastic side of bacon and delicious coffee. After waiting about 90 minutes to get a table, I was greeted with dry customer service, so dry it felt as if we were inconveniencing the server for coming in to eat. Not to mention having to sit by a cold window in the front of the door and not being offered to sit in the dining room so I can barely take my coat off to eat since the windchill of the door coming in will take my appetite away.
