Impromptu meal for shelter from the snow. It's a pretty large place with two levels, and has the feel of a down home country diner. Service was friendly. I ordered the green tea latte with whip. It was nice, good flavor and good amount of whip, though it was lumpy at the bottom and got a not so fun surprise clump of powder in my mouth. Also got the seasonal chili, which is served with a thick layer of cheddar covering it, tortilla chips, and sour cream. The tortilla chips tasted stale and old, like they had been left out in the open for a while. I informed the server and he graciously provided me with a side of fresh, hot chips. It was nice that they provided me with water without my asking for it although would have been nice to have a refill. In short: nice space, good service, food meh. I'd try this place again and order something different. Went in for brunch at 2pm on a Friday. The place wasn't busy but service was somewhat slow. The hype is gone my husband had a sandwich and the sweet potato fries were cold and limp They give a HUGE portion that went to waste since they were not appetizing at all.. I had a Irish egg Benedict and the amount of home fries on the plate was overwhelming this was in addition to the corn beef hash so the plate was all potatoes that again went uneaten. This is my first time at Toast and it was pretty good. The chai latte however needs a serious improvement because that was the most watery chai latte I've ever drank in my entire life and I am a chai latte connoisseur. The Nutella Bella French toast was delicious and bacon was well made. The huevos rancheros were flavorful and filling. Portions and customer service were great. Came here for brunch on a Sunday around 11. We had a 45 minute wait which was closer to an hour but that was expected on a Sunday. When we got in, our table was right in front of the door, and they were busy, so everytime the door was open, we were cold. Both those things happen, so not that big a deal for me. My problem was the food. I got the crab hash which was just ok. My girlfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros, but what she got was Huevos soup. The tortillas were beyond soggy and the eggs were not cooked. When she picked them up with her fork, they dripped through the fork like water. I probably would have given it 3 stars but after eating, she got sick. She didn't start to feeling better until Monday afternoon. I will say the coffee and the server were great. read more

Awesome breakfast/brunch place. I've been here a few times and have enjoyed it each time. The food is consistently on point and the staff is so kind. I have tried the banana foster french toast. I would definitely recommend that if you like that combo of bananas and pecans. The french toast here is some of the best that I have had and the batter is so rich in flavor. I love the omletes in general. The most recent time I had the spinach and feta cheese omlete. It was really good and came with these delicious breakfast potatoes. The sweet potato fries are so good. I am not a fan of sweet potato, but this was something else. I definitely think it is worth trying. They have long wait times, especially on weekends, but they can text you when the table is ready, so it is not too much of a hassle. The sitting area can be a little crowded, the tables are a little too close to eachother. A booth fixes that right up. Overall, I will definitely be coming here again. Food was amazing. Sadly, your staff should be able to recognize when someone is handicapped and can not walk up stairs. I took my mother here after raving about it for years. She just had a hip replacement and is walking (not well) with a cane. There is no where to sit and wait in your establishment so we had to wait outside. Not so great for someone with a visible limitation. When the hostess was ready to seat us, she casually flickered her wrist towards the stairs and I looked at her and said really? There was even a table right on the floor that had just become available. My mother told me it was fine but she was in a lot of pain. I told the waitress that sat us that this was terrible to make her walk up the stairs but nothing was done. Only a half assed apology. We came here on Mother's Day, and finally got to eat after a 2&1/2 hr wait. We realized it was going to be a wait and were committed being that every where else would've been just as packed. We were done eating and made eye contact with her yet she opted to go drink her coffee and flirt with another waiter before finally coming to check on us. The coffee she brought was cold and never attempted to refill, unlike the waiter did for the table next to us. Although we ordered drinks (a chocolate milk for my son and a decent milk shake for myself), we had to repeatedly ask for water. The staff overall seemed friendly and helpful, but on the other hand cleaning the front door with windex with a packed restaurant while people are still eating isn't acceptable on any level in my book. The bathroom could also use some cleaning, garbage overflowed with paper towels, no soap in the dispensary and urine all over the seat, luckily I'm a man, but what about my wife or any other lady that would've been forced to hover?? I've always loved Toast up until recently when our waitress was very careless with our order. Our "Breakfast Starter," the salmon toast was great but we were specific when we asked her to hold off on our entrees. Nonetheless, she disregarded our request a d brought EVERYTHING out altogether. Gentlemen, if you'd like to pay for an opportunity to have a waiter hit on your woman, this is the place. But wait, it gets better. I never thought I'd have an experience bad enough to sign up for Yelp and yet, here we are. If I could give Toast negative stars I would. I've been going to Toast for years and while the food remains meh, the service has become atrocious. Here's what happened. We (me, my wife, and our friend) were seated upstairs near the kitchen. A man, dark hair, in his 20s, was our waiter and by far the worst I have ever witnessed. It's not easy encapsulating his shitty attitude that seems to permeate that place these days, but I'll try. Toast has done a bang up job "training" its staff to be the worst. 1. "You think I'm extra hot!?" were the first words out of his mouth as my wife obliviously ordered a latte, extra hot. The latte came back luke warm. Why he thought it would be a good idea to try and flirt with a woman surrounded by two men, I can only attribute to foolishness of youth. At this point, I've found him adorable, but my friend was ready to punch him, and my wife had completely missed his comment or she would have probably done something he wouldn't have liked. If this was all there was, we wouldn't be here, but this place continued to suck. 2. My wife ordered Tuscan Omelette with a side of bacon. To which our waiter felt compelled to comment "you made a healthy choice, and then you made it unhealthy". He then quickly added "I dig it" because he must have noticed that his comment fell on deafening silence and perhaps just for a moment he realized that he has crossed some kind of line. Gots worse from there. 3. He then failed to bring my friend's food. I know. This is day one stuff. It's pretty insane that the service would fall apart at something as simple as carrying a plate for 10 feet. From where we were seated we could actually see my friend's order on the kitchen counter ready to be picked up, but the food never reached our table. 4. Since the food never reached the table, surely there is no way the waiter would include it in the check, right? Wrong. The order was included in the check and I paid it. Owners of food establishments may not realize that people will "eat" the cost in order to avoid confrontation because the alternatives are not good for anyone and especially not good for the food establishment. What was I to do? Make a scene? No thanks. I have no desire to go viral. Moreover, it would be a waste of a nice day we had planned for ourselves. What are my other options? Talk to the manager? Toast is a chain, I didn't think my grievances would reach anyone of consequence. So Yelp it is. Just for funzies, let's summarize the basic functions Toast has failed to provide. One. So far, our waiter has failed at creating rapport with the table. An essential skill in the service industry. Two. He has failed to transport the food -that was already made- from the kitchen counter to our table, 10 feet away. Again, day one stuff. Three. And, he has failed at the 3rd most important task, getting the check right. These are the basics and Toast has failed to train yet another idiot. Hundreds of people were waited-on by this nincompoop on the same day and the amount of misery and displeasure he had probably inflicted on unsuspecting patrons should be criminal. Furthermore, it appears to be systemic. Read the other reviews, especially the recent ones. Toast is toast. In case you are a nice person and are currently giving this place and their staff the benefit of the doubt, you should know that no, he wasn't in training. He looked very comfortable in his surroundings and there was no one shadowing him or monitoring him in any way. I actually left him a small tip ($40 cash on $36) but only so that we can leave that place as quickly as possible. Well worth it. Anyways, there's more. 5. At the end of our meal, I asked our waiter for a to-go container at which point he dismissively gestured at my plate and said, and I quote "but you only have a little bit on your plate". I politely replied that I know and I would still like a to-go container. To which he replied "pfffft", made a face, and walked away. I have a dog at home and him and I have an agreement. He let's me go out as long as I bring him back a little something. However, I am not required to explain this to anyone and I certainly don't need to be pffft at about it. I'd like to end on a sarcastic note. There was one thing that was good about our experience. Our waiter wasn't attentive at all throughout the meal which minimized our exposure to Idiocracy personified. In short. Worst experience ever. Toast is a restaurant chain pretending to be a neighborhood spot and we don't need it in Montclair. We're never going back there again. read more

My breakfast burrito was really juicy, it had beans, chorizo, tomatoes and jack cheese. Super good with the house hot sauce! The waffles were fluffy and went well with the strawberries.
