Awesome little brunch place close to Columbia and Manhattan College of Music. I came here very often when I lived in the neighborhood, but stopped in this past weekend to relive old times, since my girlfriend loves their french toast and strawberry butter. The menu hasn't changed much since I moved out a year ago, but they had added two specials: the breakfast burrito and the Italian omelette. We ordered one of each since we were able to get a side of toast with strawberry butter. The burrito came stuffed with egg, beans, rice, and some type of sauce that was delicious. Many burritos come with too many beans to the rest of the filling, but this was perfectly proportioned. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The Italian omelette was a variation on the eggs and sausage, coming covered with mozzarella, roasted red peppers, onion and a side of roasted potatoes. I'm not sure what they did to change them, but they were better than I remembered. The waitstaff was busy, but had time to stop by and talk for a few, which I always love. This space has a great lunch special. Waiters always provide great service. They have a bar and a TV where you can catch mid day sports if you'd like. They let me change the channel because it was a soccer match. The soup / salad / half sandwich lunch special always hits the spot for me. I've walked by this restaurant so many times but never always was too nervous to go in because it looked like a dingy bar from the outside until my friend and I came here for brunch on Sunday. This places is actually pretty cute and quaint on the inside. We both ordered the breakfast sandwich. I got mine on an English muffin with pepper jack cheese and tomatoes. It came with home fries. The sandwich was very yummy, the eggs were runny just the way I like it! The server was very kind, although he forgot to mention a couple of things. This is my favorite spot in New York. Everything I've had here is delicious-- the BBQ pork sandwich is my go-to, but the meatloaf is also delicious and they make the best chicken Caesar wrap in the city. Good Columbia University haunt. Food here is very good at reasonable NYC prices. Their french onion soup is worth getting! Portions are on the larger side as well. Waitstaff is very friendly and every time I've been we've been seated right away. There's a few outdoor seats as well when the weather permits. The bar can get kind of crowded and there always appears to be a few regulars who post up in their usual spots. They have a good beer selection and prices (especially during happy hour) are quite reasonable. I'd recommend the BLT! read more

so being from NYC, it's still mind boggling the amount of resturants popping up in Harlem. This is a good thing. YES, broadway & Lasalle st is in Harlem, not NOHA, Harlem. Enough of the name soapbox. Toast is the typical watering hole for Columbia students and locals alike. Beer & Burgers are the staples of the menu although they do sell breakfast ANYTIME of day and have a few entrees which appear to rotate (salmon, chicken meatloaf). Beer menu was pretty good, wide variety although they didn't have the DogFish brew i hoped for. My bride got the regular bacon cheese burger and I got the lamb burger and neither of us were really impressed. The feta overpowered the flavor of the lamb. Noise level was a little high, but maybe i'm showing my age, not being a college student any more. I might give it another try with a different burger, but plenty of other places to try first. read more

Toast is like the pleasant surprise. I was reluctant to go but decided to try my luck one day. When I tell you all the food I've had there has been not only well seasoned and tasty, but reasonably priced as well. The drink special are nice and on Tuesdays you get half of any bottle of wine with your meal. They are open late everyday. read more

2.5 stars Ambiance is an eclectic mix of oddities: walls are decorated with black and white photographs, stamped aluminum beer posters, and paintings, the music rapidly flipped between mariachi music and Phil Collins (eh?). The hipster vibe was in stark contrast to the family-style diner seating and the clientele (mostly parents and kids, at least at 6pm). Our server appeared to be stoned and definitely wanted to be on roller skates. I was surprised that there wasn't mustard on the tables, given that it's primarily a burger joint, but was not surprised that our waitress failed to remember to bring it to the table after we asked twice. The burgers were average - although there was a good variety and all sounded awesome on the menu, they failed to live up to expectations. The hand-cut fries, however, were delicious (despite some apparent controversy in these reviews, I AM RIGHT). I'm not sure why Toast has mediocre reviews. I thought it was awesome. Slightly biased because I came stumbling in post winter storm Jonas aftermath, but they were open and ready for brunch. Homefries and salad comes with all egg dishes. Their homefries are absolutely amazing. Their salad is also amazing. I also had the eggs florentine, which was nicely poached (not too runny) and had a good amount of spinach. A fairly large plate for a really good price. Had some nice tea as well. The price per person for brunch is about $15, which really isn't bad for the area, as some places can run you upwards of $20. I really like Toast! The waiter was also so friendly and the space was just very welcoming. They also have a bar where you can sit if you enjoy having an alcoholic beverage with your weekend brunch. A lot of the specials listed on the blackboard also were delicious and fairly price, so I might consider coming back and trying those! read more

Stumbled upon this place while looking for a brunch spot after visiting the Harlem week festival, and so glad we decided to give it a try! We walked in around 2PM and were promptly seated. I ordered a Bellini and one of the specials (avacado eggs Benedict) with mescaline greens. A side of mescaline greens, salad or home fries is included with brunch entree options. This was probably the best eggs Benedict I have ever had, and was a large portion size as well! Had 3 eggs and 3 English muffins (as opposed to the usual 2 and 2). My husband ordered the Norway eggs, which is essentially eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. He also felt this was one of the best egg Benedicts he had ever had. At that point I would have left, but my girlfriend asked me to wait some more time and I did. I'm telling u: waiting by the freaking door for a table and keep starring at that empty table in front of us we were not allowed to get was really a very annoying thing to do. After a while we were seated in another table and ordered. Now, I don't want you to think I'm one f those guys who gives a bad review to a place just because he thinks he was treated unfairly. It's not the case. This place deserves a bad review for many other reasons, too. Let me explain to you why. The service is very slow in this place, so you gotta order fast. They came with the wrong order for me, so I ended up getting my burger AFTER MY GIRLFRIEND WAS DONE WITH HER MEAL. My burger was just average. My girlfriend's salmon was dry and plain. The beer was washed out. So, not even the food was good. I did not go to the bathroom, but my girlfriend wasn't impressed by the cleanliness. Never again. I'll just buy a sandwich at the deli next time. Screw that. For the record, NO party of 4 came after us claiming that table. Therefore that clown could have been professional and allowed us to sit by one of his freaking tables. In the end, we were paying customers bringing money in. Food poisoned. I'm not pro Yelper or anything nor is my stomach weak but I ordered their "special" ribeye and it was rancid. They said the kitchen tasted it after returning and it was fine which means that the must have COVID because they have lost their senses of taste and smell. I had to throw up in the bathroom and the establishment was gracious enough to take the death meat off the bill while charging an unannounced 3% credit charge sur-fee. Although I'm a good millennial who loves her avocado toast, it was only after figuring out that the restaurant was NOT called Toast because they only serve fancy toasts or something that my friends and I decided to come in for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. They have Happy Hour from 5-7 PM, but our waitress made the suggestion that they also offer pitchers so we opted to get a pitcher of margaritas with our meals. It ended up being a good recommendation, I'm usually more of a frozen marg person but I was really impressed the classic margaritas that they served. Tasted very fresh! I ordered the shrimp and avocado wrap (guess I was still thinking about my avocado toast), it was pretty tasty although a little lettuce heavy for me and I probably could've done with some more sauce. I also enjoyed the Caesar salad that came with it, but my friend who ordered the same wrap decided to get sweet potato fries as the side and liked them as well. Our waitress was kind enough to warn us that the ketchup that they keep on the table is a spicier version and offered to get us normal if we preferred, but it wasn't too spicy and was very good. Overall we had a nice time there. Everyone enjoyed their meal, it was busy but not too loud for conversation and the waitress was friendly and helpful. I got a make your own Omelette. Pretty solid. Lots of goat cheese! This was the second time I've been here and I'm very satisfied. Their omelettes are fluffy and stuffed with toppings. They also give you home fries or a salad on the side with bread or an English muffin. It's decently priced for the quantity of food you get. I can barely finish the dish and I end up passing it off to friends. Also the wait staff is really nice and accommodating. This was my third time visiting, and hands down, the service was FAR superior to the previous two times I was here. The same feelings applies to the food as well. This time around, I order the lamb burger (as opposed to the roasted chicken and the turkey sandwich) and IT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. Stumbled upon this place by accident looking for a new brunch spot and was pleasantly surprised. Also returned for lunch and had another good experience. Atmosphere is a typical bar type vibe, a little dark and not too decorative. I would definitely take friends here but probably not a date or an older relative, but that's a personal preference. Food was excellent both times I came. Got a short rib eggs Benedict (it was a special) the first time and a burger the second time, both were really good. Mimosa was also excellent (and a good price) and I liked that the home fries and French fries were well seasoned. Both waitresses I had were great, both of whom were friendly and patient. They also were able to make a specific substitution for my friend (barbecue chicken in the Mac and cheese instead of buffalo) so it seems the kitchen is also great at being helpful and welcoming to the customers. My server Sarah C was awfully disrespectful. Kitchen took a minute to finish my Mac and cheese and she disregarded checking back in with me. Sara made it her job to ignore our table numerous times making me call her over multiple times. After hailing her down like a cab 4 TIMES! Yes indeed 4 times! Her colleague decides to come over, I explained to him my Mac was not cooked fully and was grainy. He grabbed the Mac and cheese and I explained to him I rather not have it since at this point my food is done. He says "no problem" . Later on returning with our check we did not ask for..... the Mac and cheese is on the tab! The place is giving "believe it or not".
