So, it's been a good while since I first reviewed the Toasted Oat; and, I've been there many times, since then. I must confess, however, that each time I've been there, since, I've had the same thing. I know; I see your fingers waving at me in scorn, as you remind me that limiting myself to a single menu item limits my overall perception of any given place; but, rather than issuing what would be a disengenuous appology, let me say that, today, I boldly ordered something different. Today, I ordered the Whole Hog Burrito. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. When I arrived, there were no less than six people in front of me. Two had already ordered; the rest were either in the process of ordering, or just trying to choose from the menu. This lead to my overall wait time to being a bit longer than usual, about twenty minutes, judging by the fact that the laundry I left at the laundromat down the street was finished by the time I returned to it. Trust me, it was worth the wait. As I said earlier, today, I ordered the Whole Hog Burrito. The white totilla was stuffed with egg, cruncy bacon, crisp onion, juicy sausage (as the stain on my brand new shirt gives testament to) cheddar cheese and chipotle mayonaise. The black pepper did stand out without overtaking the other flavors. In fact, each ingredient was singularly recognizable, while blending together to form the best tasting breakfast wrap I can recall. It was that good; hence, the added star, which may seem out of sorts for a place with no indoor seating. Was it filling? Well, let me say this: I skipped lunch and had a light dinner. I just wasn't all that hungry, the rest of the day Including tax, but not tip (yes, I did tip) the total came to fourteen dollars and change, which, frankly, I would have expected to pay more for.

Finally decided to stop here for lunch today and wow what a sandwich. I ordered the West Coast on Rye with a scrambled egg, avocado, and bacon and it was packed with flavor! It was recommended to me I try it next time with the garlic mayo and I absolutely will next time. The cafe was welcoming and had that warm cafe vibe, not to forget the people working were super nice. The menu had a lot of variety and customizations you can order in person or online. Wraps, salads, and power bowls included. Very fresh and very delicious!

Located in Downtown Newington (next to GoldBurgers) - this breakfast and lunch spot is a great addition to the area. I had heard good things from fellow Yelpers and finally the day arrived when I wanted a breakfast sandwich and the hubs wanted a lunch sandwich and Toasted Oat filled both our cravings. The hubs ordered the Bronx Bomber and I did a DIY Egg white Sando with swiss, peppers and onions. The have several sides including tots AND Sweet potato tots - they get kudos just for that menu addition. I placed the order on line and it was ready when I headed over to grab it. It's a cute spot with no seating to speak of, which was fine by me. When we dug into the sandwiches we both commented that the ratio of fillings was perfect. The sandwiches were grilled but not greasy in the least. My sandwich did not look pretty but was just what the hunger doctor ordered. I wished that the tots were a bit more seasoned and firm but dont worry I "suffered through" and ate them. I will definitely have to head back to try some of the other sandwich and bowl options. It's a great addition to the area.

What a great breakfast place! I ordered the "Good Morning Burrito," with 2 full eggs instead of egg whites. This was so satisfying and delicious. The combination of sweet potato and feta, with the sauce... mmmm! Chief's kiss. There are numerous items that I want to try, like the Unlawful Waffle. Of course, there are also lunch offerings! Healthy and yummy, cooked and ready pretty quickly. Looking forward to returning.

Who needs diner food when there is the Toasted Oat!!! I just love the Toasted Oat Cafe. My 2 favorites are the E-Rito and the West Coast Sandwich. My son and I split the E-Rito. It packed with goodness. If you haven't stopped by yet, you won't be disappointed!

    Reuben Bowl

Toasted Oat Cafe ("TOC") just opened its second location in Newington Center. Based upon the 75 reviews and a 4.5 Star rating in Yelp, it appears that the Canton TOC must be beloved. The Newington TOC is in the former Five and Dime space, next to Goldburgers. They offer takeout for breakfast and lunch, although there are some outside cafe tables during warmer times. Their breakfast items include sandwiches, scrambles and bowls. On a prior day, I asked for suggestions and co-owner Seth mentioned the Reuben Bowl with pastrami, eggs, Swiss, kraut, sauce and tater tots. This morning, I ordered the Reuben Bowl, and my wife ordered a West Coast Sandwich via the Toast App. Ordering and pick up were seamless. I saw Seth again and felt very welcome. Although TOC is just takeout, TOC looks really nice for a takeout place. TOC perfectly executed the Reuben Bowl. Pastrami CAN be too salty and kraut CAN be too briny. Both were right on at TOC. The Swiss cheese tasted great and was well melted. The Russian Dressing tasted homemade and as good as I've had. The eggs were right at my over medium order. The tots were crispy and held up well. I'll tell you right now. You have every reason to expect that TOC's pastrami Reuben will be one of the best around. My wife called her West Coast Breakfast Sandwich delicious, and she doesn't throw that word around. I think it had bacon, egg, hash browns, cheese and avocado and she ordered it on Wheat Toast. It looked great. TOC's lunch items include sandwiches and salads. Seth recommended the Club 44 (a super-charged club sandwich) and the Dillio (a homemade chicken salad sandwich with things such as cranberries and cashews). Just for fun, go to the counter and say, "Hey, What's the dillio?" Let me know what happens. This was a Five Star experience for me. Toasted Oat Cafe is exactly the kind of lunch and breakfast place that Newington has needed.

West Coast on a Portuguese muffin + pesto mayo

Been excited to check this place out when we heard they were taking over the old Five & Dime Canteen. We loved that spot and when the previous owners vouched for Toasted Oat, we knew we were in for a treat. Then my Yelp friend Jason P. checked it out right after they opened and I was sold! They are currently operating takeout only so we called ahead and our order was ready in 15 minutes - just the amount of time it takes us to get there. I ordered the West Coast but swapped the bread for a Portuguese muffin and added pesto mayo. It was incredible and not too heavy which I was afraid of. The hubby got the E-RITO which was absolutely packed! Prices are good and on par for other sandwich spots but not too overpriced as we've seen at some shops. Everything is about $10 each. We can't wait to make Toasted Oat a breakfast staple! Absolutely a welcomed addition to Newington.

Toasted has become my go to spot for breakfast in the Newington area. Their breakfast bowls are clutch! I love the the combo of their eggs, your choice of protein and my favorite, the sweet potato tots!! And Don't let me get started on the garlic Mayo, I could literally drink the stuff. Their prices can get a little high, but with the economy everything is pricey everywhere. But the service is always solid and everyone is super cool at the shop. Definitely recommend checking them out for breakfast or lunch if you're in the area.

Great first experience.... Have only ONE thing "I wished" about this breakfast nook. That it has SOME indoor eating. Maybe two small tables with two seats. I didn't like eating in my car. :( The food was great ... I had the west coast S'wich. There was one thing missing on the inside. Like a light sauce if some sort. But don't take that as a negative review because I liked it... A LOT "I liked it a lot!! ((Dumb and dumber voice)). My wife had the... The Packed Bowl!! And she LOVED IT A LOT!! "spectacular..." "you don't need Ketchup!" (That's a tshirt). Surprisingly the coffee was pretty good. Usually places like this, the coffee isn't up to par but this place was good in that department! Would I return? YES! Of course.

Was a little disappointed w/ coffee and breakfast saw wa%,ndwich. I had never been & was looking for a breakfast place. They have no indoor seating , but it was a nice day out & there were tables outside to eat.. I'm not sure how that would have gone if I had ordered waffles.. I loved that they had SOS because it is a GREAT hot sauce. However, it wasn't available to put on the food. They had a separate menu made up of 5 items already prepared with the sauce already. I'm pretty sure you could bring your food back in and have it added for a .50 cent upchanged, but I didn't expect the sandwich to be so bland. I got the pastrami w/ Swiss 2 essfs tomato , garlic mayo on a kaiser roll. I assessed salt & and peppers, and it still felt like it was lacking. it's true I could have had them add the sauce to spice it up, and it would have been better, but then it would be the sauce I was enjoying and not the food. the food should stand alone. the person who accompanied also said that their sandwich was bland or missing something, and she also used salt & pepper from inside. we also both agreed that the coffee was watery tasting as well.. like undrinkable watery. if i hadn't already paid $25. before tip, i might have asked for a shot of espresso, but honestly, i dont even think they offered it. The cheese was so thin that I wasn't even sure it was on the sandwich for both of our orders as well.. The only thing I tasted was the tomato & the scrambled egg. yes, scrambled, not. fried.. All & all I would not return, in the future I will just carry my own hot sauce.

Alright. Here we go. So many people has discussed the new location of Toasted Oat Cafe (TOC) from Canton, Connecticut. I ordered via telephone. The employee taking the order was very friendly and kind. The main situation or the bull in the China shop is that they DO NOT have bagels. I feel like this is a big blow for a breakfast menu. They only provide rolls or sliced bread. When I ordered, since they did not have a bagel, I ordered my breakfast in a wrap. The wrap with tax and tip was $14.88. Extremely expensive for one breakfast item. The actual "breakfast wrap" itself was dry and the red onions and spinach that I was charged an extra $2.50 for was not existent as you can see from the picture. Great service, minimal breakfast selection, extremely expensive to-go wrapped breakfast. 3 out of 5 stars.

And then the sandwich shows up... and flips the script. This isn't breakfast. This is a stacked, unapologetic morning statement. The Overloaded Egg Sando Griddled brioche bun, soft, buttery, just enough toast to hold things together (barely). Under that, a crispy hash brown doing the heavy lifting, adding crunch and soaking up all the goodness. Sausage brings that savory backbone, while the spinach scrambled eggs stay fluffy and rich. Then you get that creamy hit from the smashed avocado, melted smoked gouda layering in a subtle smokiness, and finally... the gochujang aioli. That aioli is the move. Sweet heat, a little funk, a little tang, cuts right through the richness and keeps every bite from getting too heavy. And let's be honest... Giv coffee, Goldberg bagels, Neil's donuts, and other local shops, announced with pride and on display. I appreciate places that recognize they might not be strong on certain items do they source from those who can. I got an affogato, sausages and cheese bagel, and a few Neil's donuts. The food came out quick, took some artsy pics then dug in. The affogato had lots of pistachios, coffee was strong and ice cream was nice and sweet. Could have done without the whipped cream, but the flavors were there. The sausage egg and cheese bagel, the bagel was very good, but didn't match well with the sandwich. A very good bagel has a chewy exterior and soft interior. This bagel has that, but it wasn't a good match for the soft egg slab and sausage patty. This bagel is a very good lunch sandwich or a schmere bagel, but not the best for a sandwich. The Neil's donuts were fresh and tasty, no complaints there. Pricing was higher than expected, but the quality was there to help justify it. I may skip the donuts next time I go and swap out the bagel for a biscuit, but it's a very good breakfast spot for the area

It is inside an old house of some sort, so it has a charming ambiance. They have a small parking lot so the spaces are a bit tight. Then, although we were on time for our 8:15pm reservation, we found out that they didn't have a table for us on the main floor, which is bad because my parents have mobility issues and cannot climb stairs. They asked us if we would be ok waiting five or ten minutes. Sure, that was fine we said. The host was very reassuring and he let us know that the corner table near the fireplace was finishing up and he'd get it bussed promptly. So that was good. But after we sat down we experienced service issues. Many items were unavailable. No orrechiete. No crab cakes. No sirloin special. It was weird. We hadn't arrived that late, on a Saturday night, how could so many dishes be sold out/unavailable? We ended up going with the scotch egg $11 and butternut squash arancini balls $12 for appetizers, which were both great. The scotch egg was a decent size and came with a mini salad. The arancini balls were small, but the truffle gorgonzola fontina cheese filling was really nice. Entrees were not bad. My Berkshire pork chop cooked medium was tender enough and had decent flavor. My Dad's veal ribs over mac and cheese were really good. My Mom's wagyu burger was tasty and my sister's salad was satisfactory. However the cost of the additional protein to the salad seems high (Grilled Chicken +14 / Seared Salmon +16/ Grilled Shrimp +21 / Churrasco Steak +24). The drinks were well made, but took a while to get to us. The "Charles... In Charge!" with old forester bourbon, montenegro, spiced cherry bitters, luxardo $15 was a hit. My Dad enjoyed his $17 Manhattan made with Angel's Envy bourbon. My $11 FreeBird mocktail was refreshing. Yet, throughout the night we found it difficult to get our server's attention. All four dishes did not arrive simultaneously. We had to flag someone down for more silverware after the appetizers were cleared. Right at the end when we were ready to pay, she got tied up listening to a couple at a neighboring table tell her a story or something. This must have been quite a yarn because she was totally enrapt and oblivious to our needs. We started wondering whether our table was actually her responsibility or not. Finally she came by and we let her know we were done, no dessert or after dinner drinks, just the check and a few boxes for takeout please. This was a new restaurant that we hadn't tried before, and maybe I took a risk by booking it for my Dad's 89th birthday, which was supposed to be special. Our experience was okay, and maybe we'd go again in the future, but there were too many more ups and downs this evening than I would have liked for a special occasion. I am rounding up to four stars overall, even though on this particular evening I didn't think each individual component met that mark exactly.

"Nothing you could say could tear me away from my guy…read moreNothing you could do, 'cause I'm stuck like glue to my guy" (Mary Wells) We took a morning coffee break, and had a wonderful time chatting, relaxing, sipping our drinks, and enjoying the friendly, mellow, and very chill atmosphere at the Café by New England Coffee Guy. They have plenty of seating, some upholstered furniture and we saw a few Friday morning telecommuters working on their laptops and sipping their coffees. Our order was a Chai Latte and a Cold Brew - each was $5. The pours were very large, and I swear that my cold brew was the very best I've ever had. I love coffee, drinking it hot or cold, and what I had here is in my all-time Top Five Percent. It was that good. I had a sip of my wife's Chai Latte and thought it was excellent as well. What really impressed me were the flavors of both drinks- not overpowering, but strong enough to appreciate them. The Coffee Guy has it all - specialty coffees, matcha, chai, espresso drinks, and pastries and sweet treats to pair with your coffee cup. We couldn't resist grabbing a few on our way out, and we took home a box with a Spinach croissant, iced blueberry scone, and a cruffin (croissant/muffin hybrid). We loved our visit to the Coffee Guy, and I was so impressed by the total experience, I just subscribed to their newsletter. So the next time we're looking for a midday break or afternoon pick-me-up..... I know a guy!

I didn't even know this place was here until it was on the coffee crawl!…read more I opted in for the Mocha iced latte with cherry cold foam. It was probably one of the best coffees I have had. Not too sweet but not bitter either. We talked to the owner for a little bit and he was very nice and personable. We will be back in the summer with our dog to sit out on the patio.
