I went there yesterday to bring crabs home for my family and the young man in there was so polite, great service and most importantly the crabs we got were absolutely amazing. I have never left a review on Yelp. We have been buying crabs for 40 years and also since Lopos opened. We order 2 dozen large today. Most were soggy which means they were overstepped or been sitting in water. They were small an nowhere near large. There were 5 or 6 larger ones in thr bottom which were cooked better I think they ran out of large and threw the rest in and wouldn't tell us . We spend at least $1000 a summer with Lopos. Crabs were light and they said crabs were heavy today which was obviously untrue. Several mushy crabs which was extremely disappointing. We ordered a half bushel and got less than a half bushel. Lots of dark muddy crabs, not even red crabs, tried to over season them to over compensate the poor quality. Will definitely try another vendor, been eating crabs for over 40+ years and these were the worst I have had. read more

At first I thought these crabs were pricey (and maybe they are). But they are fairly priced and saves me the trip of driving all the way to DC or MD (which I hate). We've ordered two times already this summer form the truck. They always tossed in extras and their crabs are sooo big and meaty! It is funny. When we used to get crabs from the warf, they wouldn't be as big and all the legs would fall off the crabs in the bags. These are cooked so nicely and handled with care. When we took them out or the bag, everything was in tact and cooked perfectly. And seasoned perfectly! So glad to have this truck close by. read more

Every year Mother's Day brings up the same question: do we eat in or out? And if the former, what will require the least amount of cooking and easiest cleanup? The answer, this year: a crab feast from Lopos Crab Shack consisting of: 4 lbs of Alaska king crab legs 1/2 dozen XL blue crabs 1/2 dozen medium blue crabs 2 lbs of steamed shrimp Both the crabs and crab legs were wonderfully meaty and sweet - and as many here have noted - more affordable and of better quality than the more famous variety from the Wharf. A few tips for ordering: - Call ahead (preferably the day before) to place your order. They do sell out. - Bring cash to pay for your order. If you don't carry cash (and many of us don't), they also accept Venmo. - Pair your crabs with store-bought hush puppies a homemade potato and andouille sausage boil. It's a must. We've found our crab shack. Who knew it would be trailer sitting in the parking lot of a gas station? :) read more

I feel like this place would've been five stars, if the crabs were clean. Great local place to order maryland style blue crabs. We snagged an order of a dozen XL make crabs for $100 including tax (cash only). Crabs were meaty and tender, but definitely not cleaned. Had to scrub off the dirt and seaweed attached to it. We didn't eat all the crabs and instead spent a few hours pulling all the meat out so we could make crab cakes for the next day. I'll probably try them again vs my usual place in silver spring. read more

Disclaimer - I grew up catching and steaming our own crabs for years. At 17, I worked at a crab house in Baltimore, now Skipjacks. Say all that because I'm particular about my crabs. Overall rating, not bad for Virginia. Despite calling ahead, crabs were keep in warmer and not fresh out of steamer (person ahead of me seemed to get the fresh steamed ones - have theories about why) not sure how long they were in warmer, but texture of meat indicates maybe a little too long. The seasoning wasn't bad, but would prefer less - steamed with seasoning and then given an extra scoop in the bag - it was very salty! I never heard of the brand they use but, again, I'm use to a proprietary mix - could be okay, just suggest avoid the extra scoop! Size/weight for price was reasonable, especially for time of year. If you can't get to Ocean City or Baltimore, this is a decent option, just make sure they are steamed while you wait and get extra seasoning on the side! read more

The crabs here are great tasting and full of meat. The guys running it are super nice with great customer service. The prices are comparable to crab houses in the area. If you want Jumbos or XLs you should call as soon as they open. We do 2 dozen of the biggest they have along with a pound of two of their steamed shrimp. I usually go to Quarterdeck if I want to pick outside and have drinks, but when I'm picking up to go, it's tough to beat Lopos. I would give this place a try if you're picking up. Surprisingly good product coming out of this food truck on a sus gas station lot. Finally pulled in and tried a few things since there were 8 cars in the lot. Found out those people had all pre-ordered (highly recommended) and were frequent customers. Fast, friendly service. Crabs and shrimp were well seasoned. They were out of crab cakes so I will be back to try those. They are a cash only business - FYI. Would have given the 5th star but their prices are a little high. Wow! Just Wow!!! I found this mobile crab shack through Yelp and decided to check it out and I'm glad I did. I called to check on their sizes and place an order. Found they had Medium, Large and XL. Its a holiday, so I went for the XLs and got a dozen of the steamed crabs and a pound of jumbo steamed shrimp. I ordered and went to pick them up at 3:30 pm, as requested. Was reminded that they are a cash only place since they are seasonal. The location is about 20-25 minutes from my house, which sure beats going to downtown DC which is certainly not feasible on a major summer holiday. Born and raised in Maryland has instilled in me the necessity to find good steamed blue crabs in the area and it is not always easy to do. Finding LoPo's Crab Shack is amazing! The XL crabs were huge and extremely meaty with just the right amount of spice. Highly recommend a visit if you are looking for take out steamed crabs! Just remember to bring cash. There is an ATM nearby, but other reviewers indicate the ATM is frequently broken. I'll most definitively be back in the future. I look forward to future visits. read more

Absolutely amazing! I've been coming here every week since they opened for the summer and they never disappoint! Very friendly staff members and usually pretty quick on their orders! It's crazy to think they don't have their own little crab shack to eat on site! My boyfriend and I usually get 2 dozen large male crabs for about $150 and it's worth every cent! The price was higher than I'd like to pay, but they were worth the convenience & quality. I called ahead to order, & when I arrived the hot crabs were waiting for me.
