10/13/24 Update: I haven't been here in a minute and decided to give them an update review. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and there is a steady flow of foot traffic here. We were seated right away and had a good spaced table. I ordered my usual of the Scallion Seafood Pancake and Hot Stone Beef Bugogi with an Egg. The side dishes were amazing. I really love the kimichi cucumbers. The Hot Stone Beef Bugogi tasted awesome and had a ton of beef in it. Which is a nice delight as some restaurants don't give you much meat. The crispy rice was amazing. The Scallion Seafood Pancake had a ton of squid inside and was super super tasty. Service was good and friendly. Finding a place after a doctor's appointment, I chose this spot for a nice early dinner. I found that good tofu soup was something nice to find that was nearby and so it wasn't absolutely necessary that I travel to Pleasant Hill area (even though you can't deny that there are some really good spots there). Tofu Kitchen is a shop that's nestled in between a dojo and an Arepa restaurant. When we got there, it was pretty empty as it was an early dinner. The service was a bit slow, but we weren't sure if they knew if there was anyone at the front but once we got seated it was pretty swift. I ordered something that was a bit more on the "not usually ordered" items from the menu. I got the Beef Intestine tofu soup, and then along with that we shared a full order of the Galbi. They served banchan, but I do have to say the options were a bit limited as far as what was served. All the ingredients were good, and I can only imagine that they go through some waste as the amount of banchan wasn't that much. The intestine tofu soup was good, there was no taste of bitterness as I believe it was cleaned thoroughly. I enjoyed the galbi as it wasn't super chewy and the flavors were as expected. Overall, I enjoyed my visit here. If you are a newcomer to tofu soup, stick to the safe options, but if you're looking for something different definitely would recommend to try out the intestines. It's a different experience and will kind of open your eyes to see if you would like more or not. Galbi is an absolutely safe choice, and you won't regret it! We stopped here as we were in the area and wanted something warm and brothy. I ordered the military stew, which includes spam, sausages, glass noodles, kimchi, beans, tofu, and rice cakes. Cheese and ramen are an additional dollar each. In my experience, I only had 3 rice cakes (yes I counted because it's one of my favorite ingredients in this stew). Beans and noodles were negligible too. Maybe they were more focused on giving me meat? Unlike the tofu soups, you can't choose your spicy level. If I recall correctly, the level is medium. While there was some good heat, it was easy to eat. We also had an order of galbi. It was not too chewy. This was definitely worth it. Then, the service righted itself and the manager made sure our table was consistently take care of. Now, the food...it was absolutely fantastic. The stir fried spicy chicken was perfectly cooked and flavored and the stir fried spicy squid was great (nice and tender). Checked this place out for the tofu soup. We to goed and waited about 12 minutes for two orders. Seating was spaced out inside and the workers were friendly. The tofu soup was pretty good. Rich is flavor and they also packed four sides with good portion sizes, which I wasn't expecting for the to go. We also got the katsu. While the portion size was nice, the katsu was very thin and they forgot the sauce unfortunately. I like my katsu a little thicker and meatier. When it's thinned out too much, it's all crunch and feels like no meat. But that's my preference. Both meals were around $12. I'd come back for the tofu soup! Tofu Kitchen was acceptable about 10 years ago when it first opened because we didn't have to drive to Duluth for tofu soup. We ordered pick up out of convenience. Ordered one pork tofu soup and one beef intestine tofu soup. It came with 4 banchans: kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fish cakes, and broccoli. The kimchi and broccoli were good, but the fish cake was extremely salty. The tofu soup base is extremely mediocre and honestly not good. We have been here a couple of times and it's consistently good. There aren't many korean restaurants in Alpharetta/Johns Creek area so this is our go-to place for korean food. The dishes are authentic but they are on the pricier side. We usually get the tofu soup and kalbi combo. It's expensive and the kalbi is not a huge portion, but the quality is really good. The tofu soup is great and the Kalbi is tender and cooked perfectly. The scallion pancake is my favorite. The squid is soft and they give you a lot in there. I like how crispy it is. One con is they don't give you a lot of banchan, like the other korean restaurants. The owners are so nice and welcoming. We will continue to come back. read more

My family and I have been coming to Tofu Kitchen for years. We've seen the restaurant change hands several times, but their food has remained consistently good. I usually order the kimchi fried rice with spam, which is served in a sizzling stone bowl (I would recommend pressing the rice against the sides of the bowl so you get that beautiful outer layer of burnt rice). The kimchi is perfectly fermented, it's just the right amount of spice, the spam is tasty, and it comes with an egg on top. The kimchi fried rice also comes with a side of soup -- something similar to miso. We've also tried their tofu soup, which is good (but not as good as Wellbean), and my mother ordered the galbi last time, which is tender and nicely glazed. The real star of the show here, though -- and the real reason we keep coming back -- is Tofu Kitchen's kimchi seafood pancake. Order a large and ask for it extra crispy. So good! We've tried the kimchi seafood pancakes from a ton of other Korean places, but none have lived up to Tofu Kitchen's. I don't know how they do it. It's crispy in all the right places. It's the perfect mix of kimchi and seafood. It's thin and hot and never soggy. It's straight up addictive. My only gripe with the place is that prices have gone up steadily over the past few years: it's hard to justify paying $14 for kimchi fried rice. I am sorry to say that I will be lowering my review to one star due to horrible service. I understand the pandemic has affected everyone but there comes a point when you are just being stingy and taking shortcuts with your customers. Not okay. I have been to this restaurant many times over the past 5 years, I used to come here once a week after work and I would also introduce friends and family to this restaurant. We did ask for a few items and had to re-ask the servers because they would forget. One of the servers (the boy) was nice and he was running around working hard (seems like they were short staffed). What was upsetting was I spent $76 on food including a nice tip and one of the ladies at the counter was rude. We asked for to-go boxes and they gave three measly containers for our tofu soup, mackerel, galbi, extra rice (which we paid for), and scallion pancake. How were we supposed to fit everything? Then I approached the counter and asked for two more containers and the lady asked what were the containers for. Uh...for my food? Why does it matter??? Then she FOLLOWS me to my table to see what I need the containers for. We had a refill of banchan/side dishes that we ate and had a little leftover - I felt bad to leave it and asked if I could have a container for the banchan and she said "No. Banchan can't be taken to-go." It would have gone in the trash anyways so why does it matter that I take the leftovers home?? How wasteful. And THEN before we could say anything else she purposely cleared the table of the banchan so we couldn't pack it and tried to take my galbi to pack it. I told her I wanted to pack it myself because I didn't want anyone touching my food due to COVID. And still she tried to insist on packing it. In the end they gave a sad measly container for my galbi and we had to stuff the pancake and mackerel in a tiny container. What kind of service is this? How stingy can you be? Honestly I'm appalled. I was introducing a friend to this place but we will not be returning and I will no longer be recommending this place. It's not worth it for the terrible management and their cheap shortcuts. Yikes. A guest we have staying with us from South Korea picked this place and said the soup (Beef Tofu Soup) was almost as good as her grandmother's and said it helped with her food homesickness. My Bulgogi Bibimbap was good and the rice was very crispy. They have broccoli in their banchan and that seems less common than other local Korean restaurants. Once we were ready, we ordered the following: Fried Vegetable Dumpling $6.99 Scallion Seafood Pancake (small) $9.99 Tofu Bibimbap $13.99 Fish Roe Tofu Soup $10.99 The dumplings were perfectly crispy on the outside and had good flavor on the inside. The scallion seafood pancake was my favorite of the night! I'm partial to seafood pancakes and found theirs to be delicious! Loaded with different kinds of seafood. The small appetizer portion was big and could have easily filled me up by itself. The hubs ordered the tofu bibimbap for his entree and I the fish roe tofu soup. He thoroughly enjoyed his bibimbap. I sampled it and thought it was good. Both our entrees came with the traditional banchan, which were all fresh. My soup arrived sizzling. I believe I ordered either mild or medium spice level. The base had decent flavor which I liked, but I realized maybe I'm not a huge fan of fish roe. I might have enjoyed a beef and/or seafood tofu soup more. Next time. I've been coming to a Tofu Kitchen for years and realized I've never written a review. This is a great place for a traditional Korean meal. A true traditional Korean place will start with banchan (반잔) - these are side dishes that come before your meal (like an appetizer and a side dish in one). A fast food Korean place will have one or two and a really nice place will have 6 or 8 banchan. This place has seven. So pretty good. I recommend trying each banchan and then if you eat all of one, they will refill it for you. So you get more of your favorites. I ordered Kimchi Chigae (김치찌게) which is a Kimchi stew with pork in it and my wife ordered Doenjang Chigae (된장찌개) which is a stew kinda like Miso but heavier. She asked for hers without clams in it and they obliged. Both come out piping hot in a stone bowl and tasted great. Super traditional, old school Korean food served with white steamed sticky rice. The people here are super nice, service is great, and it's a very quaint and relaxed atmosphere. Duluth has the best Korean food IMHO but for Johns Creek/Alpharetta you can't do better for a traditional sit down Korean Restaurant that's not a KBBQ place. read more

*Attention* if you're Muslim or cannot eat meat then they have vegetable soup bases instead of the typical meat bases other Korean restaurants use! I will explain more in detail below. My mother and I were craving our typical comfort food- sundubu! We wanted to try something new (more like too far from the one we usually go to) and I happened to see the amazing reviews Tofu Kitchen has! We got there around 7:45pm (they close at 9pm). There's plenty of parking spaces in the area. But it's tight especially with Starbuck's drive through right next door so be mindful of their rush hours! Service: If you're not Korean and you are intimidated eating at korean restaurants without a fluent speaker then you're in luck! The servers and manager here are fluent bilingual speakers. They get a lot of non-Korean customers so they are friendly and welcoming to everyone here. The servers were a little late with waters and could be a bit scrambled at times, but it's a small place so you can easily call or ask someone that's nearby. Food: I was shocked to see that they offered vegetable soup bases! Usually you have to specifically ask for that in other korean tofu houses (and even then they might not do it) so I am very appreciative that they have that option. However, keep in mind there are certain sundubu types for each base. But this is still a great place to introduce korean food to my Muslim friends and bf. Best sundubu in the area I had so far. Even my mom was impressed. I had vegetable (broccoli, zucchini, carrots, onions, mushroom) while my mom had seafood. Both were excellent. The only downside is that we were pretty disappointed with the side dishes. Fish was pretty small, kimchi too salty, eggplant not our favorite thing to eat in the world, Japchae oddly more sweet than savory. This is just our opinions based on our preferences though. All together for two soups we paid $24.76. which is not a bad deal for two meals and a generous refill of side dishes. Chill atmosphere, clean, and will make you sanitize your hands before coming in! The owner likes to monitor the dining room to make sure his customers are well taken care of. The menu consists of Korean staples and comfort food like seafood pancakes ($10-14 each), tofu soups ($10-11), japchae (sweet potato noodles; $13), seafood (squid, octopus, grilled fish; $12-13), Korean BBQ (galbi, bulgogi, spicy pork, chicken; $14-18), don katsu (pork cutlet; $11), naengmyeon (cold noodle soup; $10-11) and other soups ($10-11), stone bowl bibimbap (Korean mixed rice, $14-19), and more. You can order the tofu soup "white" (non-spicy) or at four different spiciness levels. All tofu soups are served boiling hot. You may want to transfer small portions of your soup to an empty bowl to help cool it down. You can also mix some rice in. You have the option of steamed white rice or Korean purple (black) rice cooked in a stone bowl. One of the appeals of the purple rice is that it gets cooked along the surface of the stone bowl, making sections appetizingly hard and crispy. It's hard to mess up Korean beef short ribs (galbi). This one is always a winner, though it's admittedly greasy and fatty. Extremely tasty though. I don't know anyone who's tried galbi and not liked it. I recommend it. You can order one large entree-sized serving (best shared) for $17.99 or get a tofu soup + galbi combo (smaller, individual-sized serving of galbi) for the same price. The spicy beef soup (yukgaejang) is OK. I'm not sure I would order it again. There are more appealing items on the menu to me (e.g. naengmyeon, bibimbap). The soup has a hot, spicy broth that's deep orange-red in color and is filled with shredded beef and a variety of veggies including bean sprouts, bracken fern, mushrooms, and noodles. It's hearty and comes with a side of white rice which helps to dilute the strong flavors. Great service and plenty of parking. Tofu Kitchen opened in October 2012. I could be wrong, but I believe there was at least one ownership change since the restaurant's opening. The service was great, the restaurant is super clean and I felt quite safe eating during these turbulent times. Tofu soup is reasonably price and the kids love it. Our most recent trip to Tofu Kitchen was by far the worst experience ever. The server missed two orders out of a party of four. While dishes were served for the ones that they did write down, we continued to ask "what happened to our order?" As two people weren't eating. After the 5th request to check on our order we got mad and finally got a response. The server never out the order in. The kitchen is backed up. We waited an additional 40 mins to resolve the missing two order. Owner did not comp the missing orders and proceeded to charge the full amount with a simple explanation as to say the "kitchen had a mixup" nothing more. Never coming back read more

Neighborhood traditional korean food. I enjoyed that this was nearby my house and the taste was good! Katsu size was surprisingly large. The sauce on top was a little sweet for my preferred taste. We also ordered budaejjigae (army stew). The flavoring was really good but I felt like the ingredients were skimped out on. The prices of the menu have also been updated. Love this place! It was my go-to takeout place on cold days in 2020. With takeout banchan is usually limited to two small round styrofoam containers, so if you go in person you will obviously get a little bit more bang for your buck. Plus if you like tofu soup, it's even more enjoyable if you can eat at the restaurant where the soup is boiling hot so that you can crack an egg in it.
