We've come to sit on the dock by the bay for many years, enjoying some really excellent fried and grilled fish selections. And those BBQ oysters!! And those surprising side salads!! But oh, with a sad heart and despair, and despite trying again and again over the past 5 years now, we must report that our formerly beloved go-to grilled fish spot can no longer produce what was previously sent out for our delightful enjoyment. Something has changed for the worse on the back end. Their line cooks can no longer deliver consistent grilled fish. Over and over we've gone back, hoping against hope to find the delicious grilled fish of old. Alas, it is no longer possible to eat a decent fillet of grilled fish by the dock of Morro Bay, if you go to Tognazzini's. Dry, old, overcooked, overpriced and sad is what comes off the grill now, even when you pick your fillet of presumably fresh-caught fish from the case to be cooked for you. At the current prices, we'd expected higher quality. But no. Go elsewhere my friend. I wish I knew where to send you. Sad, sad, sad - how the mighty have fallen. We still visit Morro Bay, but we find other places to eat. Never to return here. read more

I've been here a bunch of times. Always delicious and fresh!! We came here to grab a bite then go to the Rock. We decided to get the 5 piece fish and chips and some calamari perfectly cooked with the fries was delicious! The service was good they call your name and you bring it to your table and dig in. Well, ok, some live music on the day I was there added a bit to the ambiance but it's the food and the view that does it for me every time I'm here. It was a bright sunny day and I ordered a smoked scallop taco and a smoked shrimp taco, along with a bottle of Wild Blueberry Kombuchadog. So good and yummy! Watching the seal lion cruising the water by my table, watching the birds visiting hoping for handouts (lots of signs saying "don't feed the wildlife" so don't do it!) and sometimes catching the otters swimming and playing nearby is the best meal-time entertainment ever. I've eaten here many times over the years and everything I've ever ordered has been tasty and well-prepared. I'm sure you'll find something just as tasty! read more

No. No. NO! Outside dock self-serve and self-seating. Live music from a local 2-man band. My grilled fish was overcooked, dry, and hard to chew. The fries were over cooked and seasoned with spices that were not appealing to my palate. The scallops my partner had did not have a nice sear to them and were soggy. Both dishes were deceiving in appearance. They each looked yummy and flavorful. Yet, when we tried them, there was no flavor at all. Ended up here on the recommendation of a friend of a friend who joined my man and I for lunch in Morro Bay.The original destination was supposed to be Giovanni's Fish house but the line was heck of long and he suggested this spot. Now, atmosphere wise this is a spot on five star spot. Directly over the water, casual, live music playing and beautiful views of the harbor. Excellent menu too. Unfortunately, not sure they are prepared for such a crowd. It was a sunny day and I think everyone was exploring the coast that day. We were told our food would be 45 minutes, but it took an hour. Thank goodness I ordered a pitcher of beer while we waited and a cup of chowder which was served immediately. The food itself was just ok. I ordered fish tacos, fried and the fish was minimal. The oysters we ordered had good taste but I could not get over the smell. They smelled not so good and I declined eating more than one. The fish and chips my man ordered were just ok. Not big filets of fish. The french fries, mmm, hard to mess up fried potatoes. I would recommend coming here on a sleepy afternoon when the place is nearly empty. Because as I mentioned, the location was on point. You can sit directly on the water watching otters. And based on the other reviews I imagine if they are not slammed, the food is much better. I've been coming to this place for over 25 years and this is the very 1st time that I have been totally disappointed with their barbecue oysters.. I drive 4 hours especially to come here to eat these and today I ordered a dozen and a half.. paid over 40 something dollars for them and approximately 6 of them were burned to a crisp. Dry,overcooked and chewy.. and they did not want to compensate for the burnt ones.. so so so disappointed. So much so i couldn't eat my chowder... left a bad taste in my mouth... so much for 100 for 18 oysters, pitcher of beer and 2 chowders.. NEVER AGAIN... Each piece was half the size you get at most other fish n chip food shops. So, if you normally eat a 3 piece at Long John Silvers, you'll need a 5 piece here. Worst of all, the first 2 pieces I ate were tasty and cooked well. I took a bite of the 3rd piece with my fork, not paying attention, and it was not cooked completely. Here's what's special about this place...live music, fresh seafood (sometimes even caught the same morning that you get to enjoy it, front row seats to the bay, fresh air, Morro Bay oysters that are incredibly juicy and delicious because they thrive in the bays cold, nutrient-rich waters, and incredible views in every direction. Here you can buy oysters by the dozen or singles. You can also request them to be prepared in different ways. We love bbq'd oysters so that's our preferred method. The only thing I can say about this place is the view is amazing! Heard this was the best place in town for seafood, but what we ordered was definitely not up to par. The fish taco may have tasted pretty good, but it was ice cold. Not room temperature by any means, refrigerator cold and it was not a cold day. The calamari were less than crispy and just OK. There was a guy playing and singing music, but he was so out of tune, we could not enjoy it. I have dined here for over 15 years. I originally found it on a golf getaway to Morro Bay. That first time with 12 golfing buddies was memorable as we gorged ourselves on bbq'd oysters. Really cool vibe at this spot! We accidentally went to "Too" instead of the indoor restaurant, but it was a happy surprise to stumble on their vibrant patio. If you are not a fan of dogs, please don't dine here (the table sitting next to us had an older douche bag who clearly did not like dogs and should have gone to Tognazzini's Dockside). My husband, our little girl dog and I decided to grab lunch here this past Saturday afternoon after walking around Morro Bay Beach (gorgeous place). We grabbed a table around 12:20 pm. My husband waited in a rather long line to order, which ended up taking 30 minutes for it to be ready. Anyways, we got: Barbecue Oysters, $2 each, prior to tax- Tasty, tender oysters swimming in a garlic sauce. Tasty and fair for the price. Clam Chowder Bread Bowl, $8 prior to tax- Definitely a large portion to share for 2. I am a sucker for clam chowder and thought this one was good, especially with the bread bowl. Grilled Salmon Sandwich, $19 prior to tax. Side: salad- You can choose your side to be a side salad, fries or cole slaw. This sandwich was rather disappointing as it was pretty bland. The salmon comes grilled with lettuce, tomato and red onions. Although there is a sauce on the salmon, it didn't really help to enhance the flavor. The salad itself was a great portion for one person or to even share with a 2nd person. 3 Piece Fish, $12 prior to tax. Side: salad- You have the option of getting the fish fried or grilled. And just like the sandwich, you can choose your side to be salad, fries or cole slaw. The size of the fish was rather small but was good. ------------------------------- (Total= $46.33 after tax) Live music was being played by these 2 older men (different groups of people play so you may hear a different person/ people upon your visit). Although it was nice to have some music during our meal, it was hard to hear our name being called over their music (not that their music was loud or anything, just made it difficult) to pick up our order. Again, served piping hot from fryer with a beer batter/tempura-like coating, not bread crumbs. Fries were cooked well. Tartar and cocktail sauce accompaniments were done well. Oysters *do not order* - the absolute worst oysters I've ever had. Just the smell should have given me a clue, but we actually tried to eat them. Terrible. Tasteless would have been an improvement. Although we miss T's Dockside 3, Too has been amazing! The outdoor seating and view of Morro Rock and the Pacific Ocean just can't be beat. We always have their BBQ'd garlic butter oysters. We wish they made their oysters rockefeller here too, but since Dockside 3 closed, we can only get them at the main restaurant. Dockside Too has a big menu, and a decent amount of beers and wine available as well. They're also dog friendly and provide water and have leash clips scattered around the dock for your fur baby. Pandemic visit was great. Tables are spread out, employees are masked, patrons are masked when walking around and constant wiping down of tables. Pre-pandemic there used to be live music, but now they just play music, which is still good. All in all a definite must go when in Morro Bay. read more

We were craving raw oysters and planned to try the smoked oysters since they specialize in them, but after finding they were out of raw we just ordered smoked. Started with 6 and had to order another 6 because they were so amazing. Also tried the Captain Mark's combo with fried shrimp, scallops, fish, oyster and calamari which was also very good but smoked oyster were the star and made me forget about running out of raw oysters. If you are not a fan of cooked oysters, like I though I wasn't, give them a try. Maybe because they are so fresh or because they are lightly cooked, they still have the fresh taste of raw with hints of smoke, butter and garlic flavors. Add a little hot sauce and your set. The corn dogs came out twenty minutes after the rest of our food (no apology for it taking so long). Our kids who ate the corn dogs got food poisoning and have been throwing up all night.
