I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed yet ! For a suburban, non-chain restaurant, this place packs them in. In fact, they just had to move to a larger space within the same shopping center. They are on the corner of Rocklin Rd and Sierra College Blvd, across the street from the college. This place serves teriyaki, and yuppified sushi. Their sushi reminds me of Mikuni, but cheaper. They have some nice lunch combos that come with the usual sides of rice, salad, etc. At lunchtime the crowd is a mix of Sierra College students, office workers, and cable installer/construction guys. In the evenings there tend to be more couples and families. Sometimes they have live bands in the evening. I recommend the "Sexy Salmon roll". read more

Owner deserves a negative rating for his poor service alone. I used to eat there almost every night since it was a short walk from my residence. So I was definitely a "Regular" & I spent a lot of $$$ everytime. One night while I was eating & conversing w/o warning the owner physically moves me & my food all the way down to the end because a man w/ his family want my spot @ the Sushi bar. I was shocked to say the least. I was never asked to move & there were other options available w/o moving me. I feel sorry for the staff, since they were always cordial to me. I came in at 11:30 on a Thursday and it was not busy whatsoever, especially since they have only been open 30 minutes. The first thing I noticed was how big the place was compared to what I originally expected. For take-out, I ordered the two-item combination with chicken teriyaki and saba shioyaki. I feel as if the mackerel fillet should have been a little more generous. It made me happy knowing they had included a big slice of lemon to drizzle over the fillet. The chicken teriyaki was delicious. I drizzled the teriyaki sauce they provided in a little container all over my rice and meats and, don't get me wrong it was good teriyaki sauce, but perhaps prepared with a little too much sugar, as it was super sweet. This combination also came with a side salad, but there was nothing special about this salad- it was simply iceberg lettuce with red cabbage and sliced carrots, which were hidden below the lettuce- I guess it's all going to my stomach anyway, right? I think for presentation purposes the carrots and red cabbage should have been topped not hidden underneath all the green. The sauce needed more to it, as it tasted plain to me, like one step down from regular ranch sauce. For $13.92, I could have received the same service and quality food as many other places. This was my first time trying Tokyo Dori food, and I would come back. Though there was not anything special about here, it is convenient as I drive by here quite a bit. If you're visiting family in Rocklin, and they suggest dinner at Tokyo Dori, you might try to steer them elsewhere. As the youngest sibling, however, I generally keep my mouth shut and eat wherever I'm taken. I had the Teriyaki salmon, which was served with salad and broccoli. The salmon was edible, but the salad dressing was sugary and Miracle Whip-like. I couldn't eat it, but my sister loved it. The broccoli was in a sweet vinegary sauce that was weird but edible. Others seemed happy with their rolls (which had lame names like Lion King roll), hence the two star rating. Avoid if possible. read more

The dish on a menu to really understand and see how good a Japanese restaurant has to offer. The serving size or the pieces of sashimi were nothing to rave about, but the fish was fresh. Now as far as the service. How do you mistake Hamachi Kama for Hamachi Nigiri? WTF? seriously? The ambiance of the place could use some work. There's ripped furniture in the restaurant which isn't too appealing when eating. Sorry Tokyo Dori, fix some of the issue and you'll have a lot more repeat customers. Hadn't been here in over a year, but was in the neighborhood and decided to drop in for dinner. Food was good and the servers were very attentive, which was great. Unfortunately, it was much pricier than when we were last in. Our youngest daughter ordered the Bento box with 4 pcs sashimi dinner. When received the bill we saw that the Bento Box was $17.95! If the owners actually read Yelp, please let me know why I should go back.. So they offer 50 percent off. At least it got us in the door. The price of the sushi rolls are probably more expensive than Vegas and San Francisco. The restaurant was 3/4 empty on a Thursday night.... The decor is older. I think the televisions are from a decade ago. The little waitresses were focused on who got what tips and were complaining about what "some old guy" left. The food came out pretty quickly... They forgot multiple items we ordered but they still showed up on the bill. Two staff members blaimed the kithcen.. My qustion is... Should Istill tip 15 to 17 percent? Should I feel awkward? Should the manager or owner come offer and comp something or apologize? I kind of felt bad... It seems like the waitresses are young girls in college... I've been coming to Tokyo Dori since it was I Love Teriyaki (hell, I still call it that). Part of me misses the old location, back when it felt more like a cozy little dive bar than a sit-down family restaurant, BUT, I guess nothing lasts forever. The new spot is cool, and the staff and management is still sweet and friendly. The prices have gone way up, but you can still walk out with a meal for two (and leftovers), beer, sake and edamame for under $40 bucks. Wed and Sat nights are 99 cent sake. Woo hoo! Would totally recommend this cool little Mom and Pop joint to any local looking for a cool spot to call "theirs"....as long as it's not a night that I'm there, then it's MY spot... :) read more

Came here for the first time to join two friends who raved about this place because of their salad dressing and good food... okay, with that said I ordered their beef teriyaki dinner which came with rice, salad and two pieces of broccoli (I didn't eat the broccoli, I was told that it was pickled... pickled broccoli? hmm, anyway, that was all that came with the meal. For almost $10 I expected at least the miso soup that usually come with any meal at most Japanese restaurants but that came as a separate order, if you want it. The dressing on the salad was delicious too but I've had this before in some other Japanese restaurants. Well, I guess that's all I could comment on regarding the food. For just as much as I paid I could have had 2 pieces of gyoza, choice of 5 pcs of California rolls (or tempura), and salad along with the rice and beef (or chicken) and lastly... the miso soup! I wasn't sure but I thought I saw 25% off sushi orders... hmm, many nicer places like Blue Nami and Arigato's in Roseville offered most (if not all) of their sushi rolls at 50% off all day. The restaurant had a casual atmosphere with two big screen TV's. It had a sushi bar as you enter the restaurant. The staff and owner were friendly and since my friends were regulars at this place they all knew each other by name. I wanted a salad and sushi for lunch so I decided to come try this place. I ordered a salad and the portion was pretty big compared to other places. It was cheap as well. The dressing was okay. I think it tasted more like mayo than anything else. I also got a tempura roll which was pretty good. I absolutely love this place. I might only have 9-10 checkins here on Yelp, but I've been here more times that I can count over the last 3 years. I can honestly say that I've had almost everything on the menu, more than once and I love the food. The sushi is great, and I often get creative and make my own roll. The sushi Chef's are always to show off their talents and take some creative liberties with my request. The owner is really nice and checks in from time to time while you eat. The staff is friendly, especially Robert, he's so youthful and vibrant. There's great beers on tap and a few choices of sake, but even better, Tokyo Dori offers "soju" which is Korean fire water, sorta like vodka. We call it The Green Monster because of the green bottle it comes in. It's stronger than sake and wine, but just barely. Yum, Tokyo Dori! Their Thai Chicken never fails me. It's one of the few dishes that is actually spicy when its advertised as so (compared to other places)! And SPICY it is!!! I finally tried their nigiri sushi today. It's about the same as everywhere else, but still SATISFYING! I go here regularly with my family. It used to be known as I Love Teriyaki. This is the place to go when you come home from school or work and don't want to make any food. Or just want plain Japanese food without all the bells and whistles of Mikuni or Blue Nami. The service is fast. Ambiance is just right--a mix of old and young, not too loud, but welcoming to locals. We usually order the bento boxes, which come with one or two main dishes, salad YUMMY dressing, and miso soup. There are so many selections, fried kalamari, typical beef, chicken, salmon teriyaki, california rolls, tempura. Each was delightful, fresh, and bursting with flavors; but my favorite was the Red Fin. They are also pretty accommodating, and the staff is very friendly. The only reason for minus 1 star is that the portions are a bit small for the price. I hate giving negative restaurant reviews, but felt the need to warn people about this place. We ordered Sea Steak, which is normally very tender Ahi, lightly seared, that almost falls apart when you eat it. The one we received from Tokyo Dori resembled fried Spam! it was fried to the point that it had a crust all over both sides, and when picked up, was hard as a rock, discusting! The BBQ tuna was also hard, but baked (instead of fried) beyond recognition of being tuna, slathered in a watery BBQ sauce. It does not seem this restaurant has the same quality as all other sushi restaurants. Only positive was that the Kani Nigiri was good, but not enough to make up for the horrific other dishes. I go here for the combo teriyaki entree with Calamari and honey spicy chicken. Occasionally the calamari is over done, but they chicken is always great. The spicy sauce they include for the calamari is delicious as well. They have to be my favorite teriyaki place within 50 miles. I think it's a little expensive for what you are getting. Since I started going to school at Sierra, Tokyo Dori has been one of my go-to places for lunch, although I feel we have a bit of a Love-Hate relationship. It's very nice that it is right across from the school, especially when I have a hankering for sushi, which is always :P. My favorite items are the Beautiful Roll, and the Sunshine, and I would also recommend the Korean Beef as well. I gave the place three stars because they are a bit inconsistent with the quality of their food, and service. Some days, It is a very warm and welcoming place where you can get a fresh and delicious meal, and on other days nobody on the staff seems to care one bit about being courteous to the customers, or about putting the time in to make their food look appealing. I once ordered the Beautiful Roll, and it was anything but. They lazily slopped a ton of sauce over the top of the roll, and also forgot my fish eggs. Not cool. Some days I really wish I didn't give them my money. Overall, I will continue to come here as long as they are conveniently located across from the school, but if given the option to come here any other time, I would rather choose another Sushi joint, like Mikuni, (If i had the money for it D:) read more

But over the past 3 years, the food isn't as good as it used to be for how much you have to pay. The rolls are wayyy over priced. 25% off sushi isn't a good deal at all. The service their is what I call awkward. You walk in and nobody says hi, so you kinda stand there like "uhhh,okay what now".
