This place is great. Cheaper than most of the other teppenyaki joints in the area, but the food is just as good. We have never had a problem with the service here, and the teppen chefs seem more "authentic" than at some of the other places of the similar nature. Worst experience ever at a hibachi...especially Tokyo Garden! This was our favorite in Tulsa but when we went this past Friday night everything had changed! The salad dressing was NOT the same, just very mayonnaise-y tasting...no real flavor. No more mushrooms in the soup and the broth was COMPLETELY different tasting. The sushi we had was rolled in TOUGH seaweed....and the ingredients were not fresh! The hibachi noodles were different tasting, the fried rice did not have any veggies or egg in it! No egg in fried rice! The shrimp and the steak (filet) were delicious. The steak was especially tender. The veggies no longer had mushrooms or zucchini. The sherbet was icy and flavorless. Let me add that the sauces (mustard and garlic butter) were NOT the same in taste or appearance. Either the restaurant changed hands or changed recipes because this was not the Tokyo Garden we loved. The food was decent, and the chef was good, but otherwise the service was not good. They forgot the appetizer until halfway through the meal. They forgot two of the beverages altogether. One person asked for hot tea, and the waitress took the order but never brought any tea. When we asked about it, she said they don't have hot green tea and offered something else- we aren't sure she ever would have said anything if we hadn't asked. The cleanliness of the restaurant could be improved. Overall, 2 stars for this location based on service and atmosphere. 3 stars for food quality. read more

Lots of memories have been made here for me. I came here with my brother and grandma on the very first night they opened back many years ago. We used to frequent Shogun and Osaka but have never been back to either of them after eating at Tokyo Garden. I also took my now wife here on our first year anniversary of going out when we were teenagers and then we had our wedding rehearsal dinner here too. Over the years I have eaten here hundreds of times and have gotten to know the owner really well. Now for the food. Over the years the food has stayed consistent and is always in generous proportion. I have tried almost everything on the menu, I would suggest anything. My main go to is the steak and chicken, although sometimes I get the Geisha which is steak, chicken, and shrimp. I like my steak medium rare which they call medium moo. Lately I have been on a fish kick so I have been getting the steak and salmon. The salmon is glazed with teriyaki sauce. To start of they serve you onion soup but for no additional charge I sub the onion soup for miso soup. If you want sushi the have a full sushi bar and or you can order sushi while at a hibachi table. I would recommend this place to everyone. The environment is clean and fun. The staff are all very friendly. First, I'll echo above. Same show, same show. All the "Japanese Egg Roll" jokes were the same ones you hear at other restaurants. That gets it 3 stars just because it's quite fun. But it's time to critique, right? They offer you the sauces for your food...I dipped something in each just once and was done with them both. The one declared "really hot" was probably less than the other two. Deduct one star. But the wait staff, contrary to above, was amazing...99% of the time. Maybe I'm just cute, but I'd order something and it was out pretty quick. My wife, however, sat and watched me down speciality drinks while she waited on hers. Add a star, we're back to three. The meal itself was better than the Hibachi's we've been at before. They gave the chow mein noodles, cut the shrimp, it was very delicious. Add a star, we're up to 4. As we finished, we sat and enjoyed telling old stories (this was a reunion of sorts) and then the manager came over and told us "if you want to sit, we have a wonderful lounge in the back of the restaurant." I could understand this if you're at capacity, but they had SEVERAL open grills in the restaurant. We weren't even in the middle, we were tucked in a back corner. Minus 2 stars and I won't go back. My suggestion? Go alone. Be that strange guy who sits with a family of 6 and eavesdrop because other than the food, stay away. Those specialty drinks I spoke of? Don't go here if you have issues with MSG. Neither the chicken nor steak is safe. Also, they need to increase the number of servers. Both times I've come here I've had to get up from my table to get an item I've requested from the server: chopsticks once, straws a second time. Having not been to a hibachi grill in several years, my wife and I decided that it would be fun for date night, so I called to make a reservation at Shogun. They couldn't get us a seat until after 8:15 so I called Tokyo after reading the reviews here. They took us at 7 without a problem. Our chef was a little lackluster and it's a real shame that the health department is making them wear those silly sneeze guards, because you consequently can't hear a word they are saying and the jokes are just lost. The food however, was delicious. I got the filet mignon and lobster and though the portion was small, especially for the price, the flavor was excellent. The waitress was a little ditzy though and forgot about my drink order twice, on separate occasions. All in all we had fun, drinks, delicious food with a show and the enjoyment of an adult night out together, which is all we wanted. Stopped in while I was in Tulsa for work. It was late, and I was alone so I decided to sit in the area without the hibachi tables. Service was fine, and the food was okay. I guess I expected it to be like the food at similar restaurants at home, but this wasn't the case. It was still fine, but lacked the same flavor. Oklahoma sushi. Let's face it. Not something you would expect to be good, let alone...amazing! My first time there and I'm surprised by the amount of cars in the parking lot considering the sign on the main road is not lit up. As I pull in, I see a couple leaving and ask them if it's any good here? They respond harmoniously...."yes! It's the best!!" Ok, expectations have been raised. I walk in to see the hibachi side is completely filled with people. This is a good sign. The sushi bar had only one couple. Which left me feeling not-so-sure. I seat myself at the bar and begin penciling in my sushi order. I add on some miso soup and a house salad just as the waitress comes to greet me. (The sushi chefs greeted me as soon as I entered the room). I order a Tsing Tao, of which they do not carry but the waitress quickly goes to double check. So I order a fine can of Sapporo to accompany my meal. The waitress delivers my soup and salad along with my frosty can of beer and an even frostier glass to go with it. As well as a rammiken of lemon that I ordered. As an entree, I ordered the Spicy tuna roll and the yellow tail roll. Now, I've had fresh sushi from pretty much every main port in the country, and this....this tuna, was far beyond my favorite expectations. Melt-in-your-mouth bliss. Everything about this place was exquisite. The service, the food, the atmosphere. First off, let's talk about the Oklahoma roll. It is the best sushi roll I've ever had! With cream cheese, salmon, avacado, and then FRIED!!! Mouthwatering!!! Next, our chef! He was great at his job. We had a couple littles and he did a great job interacting with them. He talked to us our whole experience and told us about his daughter and asked us questions about ours. I wish I could remember his name! Usually when I go to a hibachi restaurant, the chef doesn't usually interact and talk much. They just do some neat tricks and move on. Now the food, I ordered the shrimp and lobster and it was AMAZINGLY fresh and buttery. He gave us so much food I was full after the sushi so had lots of leftovers. Husband and I both ordered the Shogun. $32.99 it was Filet Mignon Teriyaki chicken and lobster tail. Every thing tasted wonderful! My 3 sons all ordered Lobster tail and Filet Mignon. They loved it!
