I have a SEVERE gluten allergy and they were great. they have a great gluten free soy sauce (no gf teriyaki because it's homemade) and had absolutely no issue making my meal gluten free WITH no cross contamination. This is a modest size restaurant with a plethora of options. They offer sushi bar experience, a traditional restaurant dining experience, a bar tapas dining experience and a hibachi family dining setting experience. On this visit we choose the hibachi dining experience and ordered from the bar Hot Sakai and a tall Sapporo and from the sushi bar we ordered Sunset Roll. Our server was attentive and Anna was very friendly. Our chef was friendly and engaging. Overall this was a good experience and we will revisit this restaurant. This place is very busy so you will need a reservation if you're interested in the hibachi dining. I didn't give a five star (being generous with this rating) because I waiting a hour and a half for seating and they still took a larger walk-in party before seating us and we only had three in our party. On the hood note my son loved feeding the Koi fish and they provide food for him to feed them while we waited to be seated and served. read more

We had a great time with the teppanyaki presentation. The rice was delicious and vegetables were plenty. I had chicken and it was tasty. Staff was helpful and entertaining. My husband and I went here for a sushi meal. I'm leaving two stars, which is generous. Our Pot Sticker appetizer was way too crispy and more dough than stuffing. The room was smoky to the point of burning my eyes. Our Rainbow Roll arrived 1/2 hour+ after ordering and our California Roll, 10 minutes after that. Our server was fine but absent for the most part. Oh and the noise level was off the charts from the Korean Barbecue knives clanking on the tables next to us. My advice: any other Sushi restaurant would be a better bet. read more

Love this place. It's been great since day one. Only thing I wish they'd get is sweet&spicy sauce‍ it's so good! Please get it. I love how they do not put bacon in their fried rice. Even though bacon can taste great, it's not something my stomach can handle. So thank you for that. After making reservations for my elderly residents. It Was very unprofessional how they would not pick up the phone or get back to me when I left voicemails to confirm my reservation. We took a chance and went over there anyway. We had 2 waitresses, our party was 15. 1 waitress was grumpy and almost yelling at everyone. She just seemed very annoyed on having to wait on us. Very poor customer service. To start, our 6:30pm reservation turned into a 7:30pm reservation while we waited an hour to be seated. To which I may add they kept telling us we didn't have a reservation but then would confirm that we did, it was all over the place. The server was really rude, rushed us to give her our order and then didn't put in the order. By 8:30 we were finally getting fed, but the server would toss our used forks Into our clean plates and say "I don't need that". Even told my son, "get your fork I don't want it". And when refilling our water she would give us a look like it bothered her. When we would ask for something she would role her eyes or look at us like we shouldn't be asking her for anything. We complained to the manager and we over heard the server telling him we don't need a complimentary meal because we were liars about our 6:30 reservation to which she then confirmed was in their books. We had reservations Saturday lunch party of 2. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated. Then waited about 25 mins for the cook to arrive. The table next to us had a child that was coughing like crazy. The coughing was non-stop. I felt badly for her she was crying and was loud. Finally the cook arrived! The food was ok. I think the hot plate was too hot because the veggies were burnt. The steak was over cooked. The cook seemed rushed. And then there were regulars sitting at our table and the cook gave them significantly more food then the rest of us. Even the other couple sitting across from us even noticed the excessive amount of food on "the regulars" plate verses ours. Sort of hilarious. We might try another place next time. Nice atmosphere-- wonderful staff. For me-- not a great eating experience. With teppanyaki he would serve to his left-- nice servings until he got to the last two or three on the right-- about half a serving. He left for a few minutes-- came back to make a quick batch of rice-- and added more to ours-- but the quick batch was not the same-- very oily. Same thing with vegetables-- we got about half of what the other side did. That was sad-- very small amount of vegetables but tasted good. Then it was my fault I didn't mention my shrimp allergies-- so when he started cooking the chicken and shrimp with the same utensil-- in the same oil I didn't want to make a fuss--just asked him to give mine to the others in our group. They offered to make me a serving in the kitchen-- but it really was my fault-- so it was fine. Most of the group was happy with the meal ( I think) but portion sizes made my meal not worth the $25. read more

My in-laws took me here for my bday a while back and it was perfect. Just entering the restaurant feels like yr being transported elsewhere. And that magical place is where bomb sushi lives. I like this spot better than Gozen which is also bomb. The server took good care of our large party. And it's just so cute! Tokyo Gardens is a Japanese Teppanyaki & Sushi Bar located in Visalia, CA. My mother enjoys coming here with the family for her Mother's Day lunch, and so far, we have always have a great time. It is housed in a very unassuming, nondescript building; that is until you come around to the front because you will soon find yourself passing through a beautiful little Japanese garden, complete with waterfalls and a fully stocked koi pond. There's a lot to enjoy as you cross over the bridge to enter the restaurant. The restaurant itself is clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. There is good space between the hibachi tables, and isn't as noisy as in many other teppanyaki restaurants. We were sat in a separate room that contains only 4 grills, which feels a little more intimate instead of being out in the open in the main part of the restaurant. Our family was able to enjoy good conversation and interact with other parties in the room. Our server was extremely friendly and took great care of us. Unfortunately, I fail to remember her name. Our talented chef was also very funny and engaging with everyone at the table. He created a beating heart of love for my mom out of the fried rice. Of course, he did the requisite onion volcano, but this one was gangster. I never experienced one that was so large. You had to be there because it was cool. Food entrees come with some tasty traditions: onion soup & ginger dressing salad. The soup was ok. I've had better. This one seemed to be missing something. The salad was fresh, and the ginger dressing was one of the best that I have had. Our party ordered a quite a variety, from the New York steak, to chicken and shrimp, and teriyaki steak. I myself, ordered the filet mignon in honor of Mother's Day, and it was excellent! The entire table was given a couple of the good sized shrimp to try. I suggest the fried rice - it's totally worth it, and besides, you can make white rice at home. As part of your entree, you'll also get some mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, onion and carrots. Some consider teppan a bit passé; however, I still enjoy it when it's as entertaining as what we had on Sunday. I've been here twice and feel comfortable in recommending. Visalia is a small town located in Central California, and there's not much going on there, which is why I got the heck out, but this little jewel is a fun place to come with a group or for something different. TLDR: Racist and ablest, rude and discriminated experience. I called in an advance a month early and made reservations for a large group. We arrive and there are two big teppanyaki tables open and available. But they walk us to the back in an enclosed area where there's very loud children. I kindly ask if we can sit at one of the available tables in the front and they claim it's for parties of 10 or more. After our meal there's three people at one of the tables and a family of white people at the other. They clearly lied to us not wanting a Hispanic familiy to sit at the front of the restaurant when there were open and unused tables. LOVED this little hidden gem. Not only do they serve fresh sushi and bento boxes, but they also do tepanyaki!! The hubs and I were spending the weekend with his parents when we happened to randomly stop by after making a wrong turn. So glad we found this place. I knew it was going to be good because of the koi pond that lead you up to the entrance of the restaurant. It felt like they wanted to take you away from Visalia and transport you somewhere else. The restaurant was clean and decorated well. They separated the sushi bar/bento box section from the tepanyaki section of the restaurant. I thought that was thoughtful. If I just wanted sushi, I wouldn't be forced to smell like cooking food. The bathrooms were well stocked and clean as well. What we ordered: 1. Small Sashimi mix plate: The hubs ordered this. The small was generous with thick slices of salmon, tuna, and yellow fin. Tasted fresh! 2. Soft shell Hand Roll: You can't really mess up on this food item. They made it well and was very satisfying. 3. I ordered a Salmon Entrée: It came out in a bento box with all kinds of goodies (Salad, soup, fried crab salad, and fried wantons) for $9.25. It was cheaper than a bento box and came with as many items as a bento box. I was impressed. The in-laws ordered bento boxes for about $15 and we had about the same amount of food. I went with a family group of 6 people and we were seated within 10 minutes. The staff were polite and smiling, taking our drink orders with minutes of being seated. This restaurant was very busy but that did not affect service at all, and the atmosphere was pleasant with some excitement. The chef that was doing the cooking at our table was skilled in many ways. He kept me laughing with some table humor, and the teens in our group were smiling the whole time.
