This place is truly a sleeper spot that you would have no idea serves delicious food. It is very humble-looking and doesn't stand out much, but the food has truly hooked me. I ordered #9 - the chicken & beef plate with rice and a side of surprisingly good salad, with an additional request of their special spicy sauce to go atop my proteins & rice. It was amazing. It kind of reminds me of the satisfaction of eating a halal plate - a mix of protein & rice married together with delicious sauce, but of course with a much different flavor profile. We ordered chicken teriyaki with noodles instead of vegetables, instead of telling us the restaurant doesn't do that and we would have to buy an extra side of rice they CHANGED our order WITHOUT telling us to chicken yakisoba which is noodles and vegetables. Took our money, and didn't say a word. When we called back to understand what happened he kept talking over me and telling me that yakisoba has no rice and the chicken teriyaki has no noodles. He would not take responsibility for changing our order without talking to us. He did not acknowledge that he should have told us that to get both noodles and rice we would need to order extra rice. The food is smothered in a sauce and it's completely wet. We also order gyoza and didn't even get any sauce to go with it. Very expensive for such low quality food and terrible terrible service. The woman in the front has watched me go from young teenager, to college kid to adult to dad. When she sees me she asks "where is baby:)??" The people complaining about service are comical. It may be an option but it was never intended for you to eat it there. Get it to go, and go eat it at home with your favorite show. The dining room is for blue collar workers on their lunch break. All that aside there's only one thing to order... spicy chicken side of teriyaki sauce. Or whatever you get make sure it has spicy sauce. So fire. Not actually spicy. I've driven by this place so many times (the strip mall it's in is pretty low key) and decided to stop by for an impromptu sit down lunch. I was blown away by how good this place is. I ordered the spicy chicken plate (extra chicken) and was incredibly impressed. The chicken is perfectly cooked and charred (still moist). The spicy sauce was creamy with the right amount of kick. Similar to other reviews I've read about this place, the service/vibe/management approach is not positive -- you definitely don't feel like this place cares about their customers. From the glass wall that separates you from the gal taking orders, to signs about what not to do, to having no ice or even water service, to the not very friendly front person, the experience here gives little reason to want to support their business. Full disclaimer, I've probably spent close to $1,000 here over my lifetime. Why? Because this place is the type of no B.S. deliciousness I live for. The #2 "Special Spicy Chicken Teriyaki" is the only thing I ever get. The sauce they use is divine and the addition of some of their teriyaki sauce sets the whole thing off. My very first visit to Tokyo Grill was a success! I ordered chicken yakisoba. It was very good. The chicken was nice and tender with good flavor and the noodles were great.
