I was so shocked to find that someone actually gave 5 stars to this place...are you seriuos??? I mean, they have a great variety of Japanized Chinese food with good service, and the price is fabulous, but you get what you pay for. When we are there with friends on a weekend, every place has a long line. I'm glad I have this and Italian tomato as an option to eat besides ramen or donkatsu (fried pork cutlet) because of the shorter line. read more

We ordered the spicy shrimp and squid with rice and the crab fried rice. The shrimp and squid dish was ok with lots of huge shrimp. The crab fried rice was excellent. Fun to look at the plasticized dishes in the display so you know what you're ordering. read more

3.5 Stars, but rounding up because I like this place. Tokyo Hanten offers up some tasty Japanese-Chinese fusion choices in the culinary utopia that is the Mitsuwa Food Court. Their offerings include gyoza, hamburg steaks, omelette rice, pan fried noodles, and many more. All with a corresponding delicious-looking fake-food plate in the window! Everything here is generally pretty tasty, and they tend to not have as long of a line as some of the other nearby windows (looking right at you with your hour-long lines, Santoka Ramen), so it's always a good choice for a quick bite. I will have to say though, the past few times I've gone, their gyoza was not as good as it used to be. It used to be well pan fried and nicely seared, but now they all stick together, almost like they just took it out of the fridge and briefly heated it up, then seared the bottom, all in once piece. Their hamburg steaks also used to be much bigger, although they still are the tasty, tender blocks of meat they once were, with amazing sauces, just smaller. The pan fried noodles are always good. The quail eggs are perfectly softboiled. Each plate comes with a small salad of radish, seaweed, and dressing that is honestly really good. Overall, a lot of these options can be found in nearby Fort Lee with a much better portion size (especially stuff like the hamburg steaks, go to a Korean bunsikjip yo) but if you're looking for a decently-priced lunch while shopping, or a snack to tide you over while you're waiting an hour for your ramen (still looking right at you, Santoka), this is not a bad choice. read more

My family and I tend to gravitate towards this place because of all the options. We appreciate that, like other places, they have a model of what your food looks like with a description and price next to the model. My sister tried the crab cake and egg omelet over rice yesterday because the last time I ordered it, she liked it. She prefers the hamburger patty meal over this one but found it acceptable. It is worth noting that they do not give you cups for water but you can purchase water for $1.00/bottle. They also are cash only like most, if not all, other places. Tokyo Hanten is a take out place inside the Mitsuwa Japanese market. I don't have a very adventurous palette and I am basically a chicken eater. Tokyo Hanten has a decent Fried Egg and Omlette which comes withe the miso soup which is light and very Japanese in taste... Mild and soothing. The fried chicken comes with an Omlette and white rice and the combination has a small salad with mayo and the combination while unusual, just rocks! read more

Solid contender in the Mitsuwa food court, especially when the line at the ramen place is unbearable. Portion size seems to vary depending on the day. Suggestion: make the gyoza part of any order. My biggest beef (and this is true of any eatery here) is that completed orders sit on the counter practically under the noses of individuals placing orders -- a little unsanitary, in my opinion. I have been eating at this booth in the Mistuwa food court for a long time and I have never been disappointed with the food I have received. This booth serves a variety of foods ranging from fried rice and gyoza to beef patties and omelets. It provides a very eclectic selection of dishes compared to the other booths available in the food court. My go to favorite is the #41. It is five battered and fried shrimp covered in a mayo based sauce and served with an egg omelet over rice. Despite all the culinary options available inside the Mitsuwa food court I always seem to find myself coming back to this dish. Perhaps it is the large battered shrimp, fried and crunchy. Or maybe it's the sauces that cover the shrimp and omelet, both sweet and rich. Or maybe it's the generous heap of rice covered with an egg omelet. Whatever it is, you'll find me lined up for it almost every time. Just remember it is cash only (there is a Chase ATM in the food court). read more

Well after getting my Taiyaki next door, I ended up walking over to Tokyo Hanten to browse their menu. I was feeling for a rice dish and decided to go with their fried rice--pretty boring but haayyy I haven't had straight up fried rice in a while. Turned out pretty good with seafood bits here and there, and the portion was just right for the price. The meal also came with a little side salad that was surprisingly flavorful with your typical play on sweet and sour notes. Solid 3.5 stars... I'll probably order something more creative in the future. read more

Mitsuwa is always fun destination, to begin this review. You can get a yummy meal, get your shopping for Japanese must haves and top it off with ice cream or boba. But this particular stall within Mitsuwa is my low key fave...I really love Tokyo Hanten because the service is quick and the model food makes it very easy to order. I ordered the hamburger steak and mayo shrimp (#71). The hamburger steak was cooked perfectly, and had a lot of flavor, and was a very nice size. The tempura shrimp with mayonnaise sauce is my favorite part of the dish. The shrimp was not overcooked and the batter was tender. The sauce literally makes me happy. I don't know why I don't ask for extra. On the generous helping of rice they give, it just tastes fantastic. The salad and soup, are a nice touch, too. My biggest gripe about this place is the food court. Not enough places to sit, too many territorial families sending their children to claim tables...stalking the court like little vultures. this 'restaurant' is on the northwest wall of the food court. if you're not scratching your head or saying WTF?! say hi. the menu is along the whole wall and basically is just a picture of the dish, a number and a price. i'm so tempted to ask how they make those fake plates look so real. [ is it freeze dried? a girl has to know. ] to order, just step up to the counter and give them the number of the picture/dish and wait an uncomfortable 10min or longer to get it. if it's busy at the food court that day, good luck. the eggs and ground beef with rice are decent, but it's very oily. mongo had the rice and eggs with chicken on top. that was better. most meals come with a tasty soup/broth, but for the life of me, i can't figure out why they serve it in a cup making it look like tea. damn tricksters. i hate you. just kidding. maybe i'll be back and say hi. read more

This place is unique in that it serves Japanese inspired Chinese fare. It's an entire subset of cuisine in Japan and its a nice niche in the Mitsuwa food court. After experiencing some of the best gyozas I ever had in Chicago, I came back to Jersey craving the Japanese dumplings. I walked by the fake food displays of Tokyo Hanten and those fake gyozas sure looked delicious. I ordered the gyoza appetizer plate that came with 10 dumplings and dipping sauce. First of all, the dumplings looked nothing like their fake counterparts. They were burnt at the bottom edges and at first bite, I knew that they weren't homemade. In all honesty, I can cook frozen gyozas better than they could. The dipping sauce was much too salty and I could only manage a few drops on each dumpling. This is one and only (I think) eatery that has been at Mitsuwa (then Yaohan) since the opening. I had never tried it until now as there are solid good places in the food court. Looking at their wax samples, I decided to get yakisoba (kata-yakisoba to be precise). Why was I still deceived by the photo/models? The service was horrible, and the food was even more horrible. The noodle is partially crisp - there were parts that were soft. The an was horrible. The soup was horrible - what was that by the way? I normally don't write reviews for eateries but I really needed to express my anger as a customer after today's visit here. Mitsuwa has definitely seen better days in terms of food and employees. I had to resort to Tokyo Hanten after learning that one of the other kiosks I frequent had closed and been replaced. Tokyo Hanten currently has some of the most despicable employees I've ever seen. PEOPLE CHANGE THEIR MINDS WHEN THEY ORDER FOOD, especially when it comes to size. Don't roll your eyes and glare at me when I want to order a small instead of a large. I would understand the terrible service if I was a rude customer, but I'm by no means a rude customer. I've worked in food service before, and I know that I need to treat others the way I want to be treated. I ordered fried rice with gyoza and once I bit into my gyoza, I knew that something was amiss. My sister then bit into it and agreed--the meat was definitely rotten and spoiled. We went back to the girls working there and they insisted that it is how it normally tastes. I've eaten gyoza and dumplings all my life. Gyozas are NOT supposed to be sour. However, they must've known that they definitely didn't give us fresh gyozas, because they gave us a refund. As one of more senior employees gave us a refund, the younger and obviously inexperienced (not to mention rude) employees started laughing and I just knew I would never order from Tokyo Hanten again. If you do eat here, please make sure you are being served fresh food. Gyozas should never taste sour or rotten. I've been a regular at Mitsuwa and I've definitely noticed the decline in their food. From a decrease in portion sizes to a decrease in quality, I think Mitsuwa definitely needs a wake-up call. I used to love going here, but now I think it is not worth the one-hour drive. read more

Located in the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court, where you make your order at the window and get a ticket to pick up the order when ready for eating in the food court dining area. Use of food models is standard here like it is in Japan, but even amidst all the models, Tokyo Hanten is instantly recognizable by their modern, brightly lit, wall to ceiling display, with each food model plate in its own square. Multiple variations of similar items involving gyoza, hamburg steak, and fried rice; they also have egg rice dishes, mapo tofu, beef stir-fry, etc. The food is ok but not great, and it shows by being one of the least trafficked places in the food court. I have a weakness for dumplings and will often get the spicy gyoza as a side dish to my Santouka ramen, but its not great gyoza, a mediocre skin being the major problem. Tends to take a long time to get ready. I have yet to sample their egg rice dishes and really should try it next time. read more

I didn't have anything against this food court until today... I came here today and ordered 2 dishes- one was #41 and another #32. Honestly the names of the dishes are long and I'm not very familiar with them whereas the lady that works here is. When I first arrived at the counter, she was talking with someone about a vacation of something. I didn't want to interrupt so I waited for a moment and said hi. I told her I wanted one #41 and one #32 and went to the little store to kill time until the food came out. The food came out fairly quickly. We picked up both dishes and walked to the table by the window only to find one of the dishes was not what I ordered.. I went back to the window to tell the lady this is not what I wanted, I ordered a #32, not this. Her response was.. She repeated back the order to me in their names and that I had confirmed the order. I was telling her I assumed she would've gotten the order right if I had told her the numbers.. It was my fault as well. She was not rude, but I was upset, so I asked her to take back the food and I'll order the original dish again. When I came back with my wallet, she told me to just give her the difference in price which was 28 cents. I was a bit confused because the dish I paid for was actually more expensive than the original dish I had wanted but I paid her 28 more cents thanking (in my mind) she's not charging me for the whole thing when I returned the food. I watched he chef prepare for the correct order to make sure he didn't spit on the food or something (I have heard of stories in which some people do that..). Thankfully his body language was unhappy and annoyed but I don't think I saw anything horrible. I came back to the table and I felt really bad for the person for whom I ordered this dish. I should be more careful placing an order next time. The food was okay but just the experience of getting upset ... Compels me to give a 2-star rating. read more
