best hamburg steak ever! so juicy and tender with the perfect little bit of broth on the side. it's always extremely soft with a nice umami flavor. the rice is always tasty and well cooked too. the perfect comfort meal overall. i enjoy getting the hamburg steak with the spicy gyoza, im always stuffed after and its not a wallet break either. personally my go to and favorite stall at mitsuwa for sure! service is always speedy even when busy as well. the fake food display is a nice touch as well. read more

I stopped by Mitsuwa and was very hungry. I decided to stop by Tokyo Hanten for the very first time. I passed this place many times and now I just tried one of their hamburger plates. It was number 33 on the menu. Number 33 was a plate of fried rice, hamburger patty with chili sauce, and a cup of soup. They had single and double patty options. I opted for the single patty, which was enough for me. The cashier was very nice and attentive. She processed and circled my order on the menu paper. This place used flash/vibrate key pager system and in no time I got my food. It was neatly place on the tray. This place was very clean and organized when it comes to serving food. The portions were pretty decent. Not too much or little. It was just right for me. The burger patty was very tender. The chili sauce was not spicy at all. I couldn't taste any spice in the sauce. It was sweet with an apple sauce consistency. The grain of the fried rice was very big. I did not expect the grain of the rice to be that big. The fried rice was not fried and tasted like steamed rice with a bunch of ingredients. It tasted very clean and not burnt at all like how it is with every fried rice that I've eaten. I do not like daikon, which is what they had on the side. However, they had mayo sauce with a few strings of seaweed salad to make the daikon good and tasty. Daikon in my opinion smells really bad and is hard to eat. Luckily the daikon was in shredded strings so it looked very appealing to eat otherwise I would not touch it if it was cut or sliced up. So overall, the platter was pretty alright for me. I did kind of wanted the cup of soup to be a big bigger because the cup was so tiny. It did not look like a cup of soup at all. I love the dumplings here. My family came here on a couple of occasions to shop at Mitsuwa. We have stopped at this vendor each time to pick up dumplings and other things. The ladies working the counter are very patient and nice. If we have leftovers, they have provided containers. The dumplings are solid. You get a lot in an order. They have combination meals and everything we've had here alhas been excellent. They have a wall of fake meals that show you exactly what you're getting. I love the visual menu. It makes it easy to decide. The hamburger steak dish with rice is great. It's a huge serving. Make sure you get your gravy for the meat. Wanted some Japanese Hambagu and gyoza. Came to Mistuwa to shop at the Bandai store and some groceries. Afterward always a meal in the food court and what's better than hambagu (hamburger patty)? Juicy, tender, soft melt in your mouth beef burger patty over rice. I highly enjoy the chili hambagu while hubby usually enjoy the mapo tofu one. Food came out really quickly. The crab omelet rice was just alright. It was a bit sweeter than I would've liked. Couldn't take more than two bites at once because the slight sweetness from the egg and gravy got to be a bit unpleasant. The rice was also mushier than what I would've preferred. It was nice that it had whole chunks of crab leg though. The dumplings were good, but too salty. I think they're basically frozen Ling Ling dumplings, which are well-loved. I can't believe that I've been eating this occasionally for the better part of the last two decades. While portions have gone down a bit, the taste is still the same - delicious! Hamburg patty is always juicy with delicious "chili" sauce (not really a chili but I think they just call it that - it's more like Mapo tofu sauce without spice) and the fried rice is just right - not too dry, not too mushy. We get a single patty but you can also order the double patty. The combo is about ~12. Teriyaki sauce is great! I think the portions have become smaller over time, prob due to inflation. The fried rice also had little toppings. It was more like rice with a slice or two of fried egg. I am not sure if this was just leftovers and not a fresh batch? At first glance, Tokyo Hanten has a huge display of all their menu options: different rice dishes, hamburgs, fried gyoza, egg omelettes, and a variety of Chinese-style cuisine dishes. A closer glance though, and you'll notice that a sizable portion of their display options are repeats (i.e., teriyaki hamburg with white rice, teriyaki hamburg with fried rice, teriyaki hamburg with rice porridge, etc.). You get the picture. Initially, my sister and I, we were planning on ordering a few items down their menu, but we figured that since there were so many other shops in Mitsuwa, we might as well order a dish or two at each shop. So for Tokyo Hanten, we ended up ordering their fried gyoza. Oddly enough, the meat filling inside reminds me of meatloaf, as the texture was distinctly soft but not mushy. The crab omelet rice looked extremely visually appealing, with the fluffy egg spilling beautifully over the rice. It was hard for me not to dig right before taking a picture. Taste wise, it was pretty good, with a generous portion of shredded crab throughout. I wasn't a fan of the sauce however - it was a sweet and sour sauce, but I would've just preferred either or. My sister ordered the hamburger steak and gyoza over rice. The gyoza was perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. As for the hamburger, it literally tasted like the Salisbury steaks that I had in my TV dinners back in high school. The struggling days - definitely not something I'd prefer to taste again. This eatery is inside Mitsuwa Marketplace. Here, they seem to have all of their offerings made into wax food. It is really nice to be able to what the food you are ordering are going to (or supposed to) look like. It is kind of Japanese-style Chinese food in my opinion, and it CASH ONLY. I chose Hamburg & Gyoza with Rice. There was an option to substitute white rice to Fried Rice or Rice Porridge for additional $2. The waxed version of fried rice looked so good, that I decided to swap my white rice with fried rice. Hamburg steak and gyoza was not bad, they were actually pleasantly tasty. The fried rice...well, it was just ok. It didn't have much flavor at all... I don't think it was worth the extra $2. My husband went with Crab Omelet & Gravy over Pork Rice. It looked similar to Omurice, a typical Japanese comfort food, but kind of Chinese version of that. The egg omelet was good, bot great. The crab meat seemed like a real crab meat, and not imitation kind, which was nice. The gravy gave a nice creamy texture, with a but of sweetness to it. I didn't see much of "pork" in the "pork rice" though. Overall, it was ok, it didn't blew my mind in any way. The price point was nice, very affordable. I have been to this location multiple times in past 6 months and after long waits on line to order their bubble tea, I am then told they don't have any bubble tea. New Year's Day it was crowded due to holidays and shorten hours. Waited over 15 mins on line but when it was my turn the kid at the cashier decided to put staples in the stapler and I am standing there watching him fidget with the stapler for over 10 mins until he finally gave up and then ask me for my order, so waited over 15 mins on line, watch the kid fidget with stapler another 10 mins only to be told they again have no bubble tea. They put a sign up that they were already out of fried chicken but didn't bother preventing customers from waiting on long lines to place their order only to be told they have no bubble tea. read more

The nicest display of Mitsuwa food court yet very disappointing or at least what I order was a bad choice. Like all the other restaurants in the food court, they only accept cash. I had their fried rices with gyoza and it was just simply terrible. The fried rice was so plain and the gyoza was majority burnt on the other layer. If even though I would try not to waste food but it was just too burnt. Looks can be deceiving since all the display is just a display. Any dish always comes with some sort of cabbage thing (which I personally don't like and skip XP) as well as a cute little cup of soup. Although it's cold ish rarely warm so i guess you drink it cold. But I always use it for my rice not that the rice needs it of course. It's a personal thing. The hamburger is always moist and never dry and it's a big piece!! A few dishes you can actually double the meat and have two hamburger steak. The gyoza are pretty okay , pretty standard not over the top good but good enough. The sauce given with it is ehhh I don't really dip my gyoza with it. Overall the portions are huge and you will deff be full by the end of your meal. The prices are great too for the potions given. The staff is always friendly although whenever i am at mitsuwa it's never the same person . Tokyo Hanten is deff a place to try if you are at mitsuwa. Tokyo Hanten was the alternative since Santouka's line was out the door. Supposedly the same people that created Santouka created this place as well. As opposed to Santouka, they specialize in rice dishes. It's a fusion of Japanese and Chinese cuisine. The price is definitely fair. For less than $10.00, I got a big heaping portion of rice topped with a bit of ground beef all covered with an egg crepe that had fake crab meat mixed in it. There aren't many boba joints in the area (at least none that I know of) so I jumped at the chance when I saw a small boba selection on the menu. The dish was nothing special but it also didn't disappoint. The size of the portion will leave you happily satisfied and the egg crepe is pretty think. You don't get much of the crab meat or ground beef which is why they get the 3-star rating. The almond milk tea with boba was very sweet and the tapioca balls were undercooked. It did to the trick in satisfying my boba craving though. This food court has an abundance of options which is why I think this place gets so crowded during peak meal times. I probably wouldn't eat Tokyo Hanten again only because I have so many other places to choose from. read more

Most of your typical Japanese dishes other than ramen! The display of wax comfort foods makes Tokyo Hanten the most eye-catching stall in this Mitsuwa. The items on display are definitely mouth watering and draw me to this place if I'm not craving ramen. I've tried various omurice, gyoza, and hamburg steak combinations from here. The food sometimes is a hit or miss - I've had plates that look really stunning like their wax counterparts and some that simply fell short. The taste of the food is pretty okay, I think the omurice options are the best ones since the gyoza and hamburg steak can come out kind of bland or have a lack of texture. While I've had more pleasant experiences with the hamburger steaks, I usually try to avoid the gyoza since they typically don't come out as crispy as I want them to. The shining characteristic of this stall is that it offers a lot more variety of dishes than the other stalls in this food court. The menu is pretty impressive even though most of it is probably just various combinations of similar ingredients. When I come to this Mitsuwa I usually just bounce between Tokyo Hanten and Santouka (with the occasional onigiri or green tea ice cream) because I find that the pairing of these two offer everything I want from Japanese comfort food. I've never been to this stall during peak times so I can't speak of their customer service when it's busy. The texture of the gyoza was great. The exterior was crispy and thin, but held together nicely. It wasn't doughy or hard. The inside was very meaty but didn't fall out as many gyoza do. It was as if the meat and dough were baked together before frying so they were one. And the flavors were devine. They tasted authentic and complex (a hint of ginger and scallion within the gyoza... yum!) I loved it. The chicken was very crunchy on the outside but fatty on the inside. I didn't really care for it. It was full of flavor but it's the texture I didn't care for. It was fatty cuts of chicken that were sort of rolled together, seasoned, breaded and deep fried. I don't get to come to Mitsuwa often since I moved out of NJ years ago. Whenever I have the opportunity to stop for lunch or dinner, I always choose Tokyo Hanten. It's hard to find a place that serves Japanese style Chinese food in America. This time I had the shrimp mayonnaise and egg omelet over rice. I really liked the taste but it was too rich for me. So I saved some for later. It's not easy to take leftover here since they don't even do take out orders. So it's necessary to bring a container if that happens. read more
