Menu (03/2025)

Little Ferry, NJ - located inside the H Mart, Katsune specializes in katsu, panko-breaded fried cutlets (or schnitzel, if you will). The menu is focused on katsu, but there is also beef gyudon (a dish of thinly sliced simmered beef & onions over rice). We ordered the chicken katsu, which is served with rice, cole slaw, and pickled radish. (The radish is really good!) The sizable cutlets are perfectly breaded with golden crunchy panko coating, and are great as either a meal or a snack, should you find yourself nibblish while shopping in this H-Mart plaza!

Tartar sauce, white rice, curry (extra order)

TLDR: great high quality food for responsible prices. Located in the food court of the Little Ferry Hmart, this shop has some tough competition. The cashier was extremely helpful and patient. Food court was extremely busy, with everyone slurping up noodles/soup or scarfing down some rice. From the other restaurants, to my favorite cast iron right outside, this place needed to perform. And it did. Shrimp was perfectly fried. Curry was FLAVORFUL( can prob just eat that with white rice). Tartar had the perfect tangyness.

We've been to the original location a while back and really liked it. Don't live very close though, so haven't returned. Was in the area and saw that there is a new location in Little Ferry. This is actually a lot more convenient... lots of parking and more seating since its in a food court. The tonkatsu was delicious and cooked perfectly. Definitely one of the better tonkatsu that you can get in NJ. Only complaint is that the regular does not come with curry. You can get a version that comes with curry, but that version has a smaller portion of pork.

Pork katsu

So I basically inhaled my meal. YES, IT WAS THAT GOOD! Located in the food court of H-Mart, this eatery offers a small menu specializing in fried katsu (a fried pork or chicken cutlet with panko bread crumbs). Everything on the menu looked extremely appetizing but I ended up ordering the curry katsu (~$14). I waited about 15-20 minutes until my meal was ready. The food court has ample seating and you can always walk around the grocery store while you wait. They call out your order number over a speaker system when it's ready. The combination of the crispy, flaky breading and the pork dipped into the curry was next level. The pork was tender and the curry was very flavorful with the perfect kick of spice! Each meal comes with pickled vegetables, a cup of white rice, and katsu sauce. So filling! I wasn't a big fan of the sauce so I'm glad I got the curry. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

Wang katsune, two stacked pork cutlets!

Love the original location and happy that they opened up a spot closer to home at this Little Ferry HMart! Got the usual, wang katsu and was able to snag a table during a busy lunch hour on the weekend. Food came out within 10-15 minutes and of course was delicious. I could barely finish it all and while walking out the cashier asked if I wanted a bag to go. That was nice of him, so thanks for that! Great food, great service.

This was my second time though first time was at a different location. I thought the portion is good and the katsu is definitely better than most "Japanese" restaurants out there. You see the chefs hitting the pork with hammer before the open but the meat is not as tender as I thought it was. I like how they fried it, but somehow I thought it would be better. Maybe my wife hyped it up too much. This one is at the H-mart food court, last time my wife bought from the restaurant which was reheated but I felt the one at the restaurant was more tender. But overall, the flavor is good, the portion is good, just not as good as i expected but certainly enjoyable.

Wow, I am pretty sure Katsune will be one of my favorite donkatsu restaurants. The curry katsu and shrimp katsu are solid choices; both fries are great and the fried skin of the shrimp katsu is amazing. I can tell the difference between two and the latter has a delicate layers. Side dishes, including Miso soup, are paired very well with the main entrees. It is a decent amount food for the price as well. I hope they keep up with the quality, taste and the amount- don't change after a few months of the grand opening!

Chicken Katsu & Shrimp Katsu
Brian O.

I had the chicken katsu and shrimp katsu, and wow--this might be the best katsu I've had in a long time. The breading was perfectly fluffy and crispy, giving that satisfying crunch without feeling greasy. The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy, and the shrimp had that sweet, fresh bite you hope for. You can tell they take pride in how they fry their food--light, golden, and super flavorful. Definitely coming back for this again.

Located inside the food court of the HMart in Little Ferry, this establishment recently opened in March at the former site of Menya Sandaime, where I came for lunch as a first-timer. Katsune Donkatsu features different katsus (panko-breaded meats). Most of them are variants on pork, though they offered chicken and shrimp as well. Greeted by the staff, I decided on their Katsune Donkatsu (deep-fried pork accompanied by salad, pickled onions, and rice). Perfectly cooked all the way through, as all pork should be with no fat, and fried outside in definitely fresh oil to look and taste. This was home-made bread crumbs (panko) done to perfection with fresh ingredients. It was so crispy, juicy, delicious, and not greasy. I was impressed by the quality of the food. The price was very reasonable, as the order was enough for two meals. The staff was very friendly and served promptly. I can recommend this place.

Great katsu curry and the portion is big! Would recommend if you are craving Japanese style curry. It's in the H Mart.

(miso soup, fried rice, wagyu & udon soup). i do recommend it to others but don't see myself personally coming back

My dining partner and I were seated rather quickly. Our server took our drink orders and came back promptly so we could order our food. The menu is pretty extensive but we ordered an assortment of skewers and a bowl of ramen to share. The skewers came out little by little; about 3 skewers per plate. They didn't come all at once so I assume they bring them out as they finish getting grilled. The chicken heart was some of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure if it's the way it was sliced, the seasoning, or just everything about it but I wish we ordered more. The tail skewer was another standout. It had so much crunch that it was almost like it was fried. The flavors were rich and varied. Each skewer cost upwards of $4 so that's a bummer. Unfortunately the ramen wasn't so great. Not terrible, but not great either. Especially not great for $19. Not my first choice for ramen. Is it the most bang for your buck? Certainly not. But I did enjoy my meal and in the end, that's what matters.

The dining area is in rough shape -- cracked wood, dusty interior, and a generally run-down vibe that makes it feel borderline dirty rather than "casual." Service was also frustrating. Our servers couldn't answer basic questions about the menu, which is already hard to follow if you're not familiar with Japanese terms. It left us feeling lost rather than guided. On top of that, the pricing is steep for the suburbs -- $5-$8 per skewer adds up really quickly, and it just didn't feel worth it given the atmosphere and service. All the yakitori was decent but nothing mind blowing, smaller servings and overly salty. To make matters worse, the tap water was awful -- honestly undrinkable. Look at my picture I'm shocked they thought this was acceptable to bring to our table. The food itself may be authentic, but everything else about the experience dragged it down. Unfortunately, not somewhere I'd come back to.

Nothing really stood out to me as far as flavor or noodle texture. The curry was almost all just sauce over rice so I would pass on this dish next time. Loved the fried chicken though. What started as a handful of niche noodle shops is now a full-on culinary movement. All across Jersey, ramen chefs are crafting rich broths, house-made noodles, and inventive toppings that delight the senses. Located on State Street in Hackensack, I frequent this establishment numerous times during the year. Ramen Azuma pours out their soul in preparing perfectly the classic Japanese cuisine. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the staff and got an empty table by the window inside their cozy and inviting vibe. Their menu features a wide selection of ramen, curry, and appetizers. I decided on their newest edition--Wonton Ramen and 3 pieces of Fried Chicken. The savory ramen soup was filled with shrimp wontons. Even though they were very thin wonton wrappers with a smaller amount of filling, they tasted consistent with other shrimp wontons from past restaurants, accompanied by Menma Bamboo, Scallions, and Egg. The Fried Chicken was well seasoned. The food overall remained authentic and incredibly flavorful and on point. The portion was very generous. Friendly service, and the price was reasonable. Make sure one comes on an empty stomach.
