Always my favorite place to eat. I have been to many different locations. But this one is closest to my home. I am happy to report while ago they finally cleaned the over head RED light display. And they now keep the bathrooms locked, I think to keep the homeless out. And my favorite thing this time to report is the finally brought back the water chestnuts!!! BEST DAY EVER seeing those back on the menu. They bring a level of crunch that is perfect in the rice bowls. We always feel as tho the place is fairly clean and the staff is pretty friendly for the most part. Today however I had one complaint, my husband and I both got white chicken in our bowls and we both had crunchy parts of the chicken, which has never happened before. Seems like the chef today over cooked it. But always recommend the white rice bowl with white chicken, your favorite toppings and the peanut sauce. read more

Went in last night with my family 2+ hours before closing at around 6 PM. As soon as we walked in we received very dirty looks from all the staff members. One of my family members chose the "build your own poke" menu option and was very rudely told by the cashier that he could only do 3 toppings total. Family member then nicely asked if he could do the 3 included toppings and add avocado (which is an extra charge, no problem with that we wanted to pay for it) and was still told no he could still only do 3 toppings regardless of the up-charge by the very rude cashier, which made zero sense. We decided to dine in and the same cashier brought our food. One of our orders was messed up due to the cashier mishearing and when we mentioned that we asked for something different he gave us a lot attitude, rolled his eyes and in a very raised voice told us that we would have to "get up and pay for it if we wanted it". The food was extremely bland, cold, and the portions were VERY small. For the price tag of $14 - $20 per meal the servings should be adult sized, not the portion of a kids meal. I ordered one of the pre-created bowls on the menu and was given maybe half of a palm size worth of chicken and the entire bowl was mainly rice. Overall -10000000/10 experience, worst food I've ever eaten and the staff really needs to work on their customer service. We wasted over $100 to be basically yelled at over mediocre food. As an Asian guy, I know my Asian food. I only came here because my girlfriend can't get much gluten-free Asian food and this was her joint back in the day. Made my own bowl with a big order of dark meat chicken, udon noodles, teriyaki sauce, and veggies. Umm...yeah, it's definitely very Americanized Asian food at best. The only good thing I can say is that the ingredients were very fresh. Aside from that, I was fairly meh about my food. Would've expected a properly cooked udon noodle bowl to NOT be soggy with the sauce, yet that's how my bowl came out. Meh indeed. Service was fine, no problem here. My girlfriend and I stopped in for lunch today. I like Tokyo Joe's as they have proven to be very LGBT friendly. The fact I am holding hands with another woman isn't even noticed. I ordered a small salmon bowl with veggies, half noodles and half rice. I went with the teriyaki. Billy took my order and found him to efficient, he wasn't especially friendly. No smile, no welcome comment. Took my order, took the payment, gave me a number, moved me on. Effective but impersonal. The food came to us very efficiently and was delivered by the perkiest and most outgoing girl I have come across in weeks. Her name was Serenity. She was a true jewel of an employee. Our food was warm, fresh, well presented and very tasty. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed our meal immensely. read more

TJ's has been sliding downwards for a few years now. Nearby competitors have eclipsed them in terms of quality and freshness. The last time I went, and for the 3rd time in a row, my edamame appetizer had brown spots on the beans--they should have been thrown away days earlier. My chicken bowl certainly tasted as though the chicken had been cooked earlier and thrown in the wok for a warmup. TJ's was the first restaurant in the area to invoke "Guilt Tipping" for credit card users. If you dared to pay with a card, the cashier flipped the pad for your signature with several tipping options highlighted. As you contemplate, the people in back of you are staring over your shoulder as the cashier looks you in the eyes. Hard to tip the same 20% you would tip to someone waiting your table in a sit down restaurant with table service. Irritated, I just reverted to paying cash after several consecutive so-so meals of precooked chicken and brown edamame. If you tip and have a problem with the food, you're screwed. I now go down the street to a competitor (I won't name them so people won't think I work for them), and they cook all dishes to order and they come out piping hot. I'm not sure I'll be going back anytime soon since the decline has been obvious. read more

All other vegetables, none with any seasoning whatsoever & bland. Not worth anywhere near the $11 price tag. Not sure how these folks make it - poor value for the money, almost tasteless food. I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed this Tokyo Joe's yet. I work close to this location and it's my favorite option if I didn't feel like making lunch the night before but still want something healthy. Everything on their menu is so fresh and tasty. I love the miso soup or a build-your-own bowl with brown rice. They have a huge selection of sauces; my favorites are the green curry and Stevi-yaki (aka sugar-free teriyaki). They have options for every type of diet, whether you're a carnivore, omnivore (like myself), vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free. They even have sushi! The staff is always super polite. Despite being perpetually busy, I've never had to wait very long here. It seems efficient and well-run. read more

The food was very bland, there was barely any sauce, the Udon noodles were overcooked. They basically had a consistency of mashed potatoes. Except they had no flavor to them. Not that noodles are ever particularly flavorful, but when combined with thin, watery, underseasoned sauce, it all added up to a completely dissatisfying meal. The tofu was chewy and rubbery, miso soup was just merky and tasted like, what I imagine, swamp water tastes like, and oh yeah, their "sushi" was laughable. The stuff you can get at a grocery store is probably more authentic than what we got at this place. The portions were small, definitely not worth the money. It wasn't particularly expensive, but for the quality and quantity it was just a rip off. The only redeeming quality of this place was that we got the food really fast. But if I needed speedy service, I could have gone to McDonald's. At least I would have left there full and for a fraction of the cost. read more

Horrible customer service I ordered the wonton sushi. I asked the avocado to be subbed with jalapeño. On my previous experience they made it perfect. This time they put a thick slice of jalapeño on the top of the sushi. Sorry but I want to taste sushi not just a jalapeño lol. Ordered a pick up order from here about two weeks ago now. Waited for 45 minutes while come to find out my food had been sitting on the counter waiting to be packed up the whole time. When I received my order, I was missing half but it definitely wasn't worth going back for. When I spoke to someone named Dawn Whittenburg about the situation she said she would send me a free coupon and that was April 13th. I'm assuming that was just to keep the review from being bad. Cute, trendy, overpriced, not real sushi. This was my first experience at the Tokyo Joe's chain. I had always heard about their "bowls" so I had to try it out for myself. I ordered a steak bowl with teriyaki. That was pretty diappointing. It was a bowl of rice with some meat on top, and a side of teriyaki. I mean, it was good, but not sure what is so exciting about Joe's bowls. I also saw they had a few sushi rolls on the menu, so I picked out a couple of those. Yeah, not so much. My Spicy Tuna was not even raw, it was seared. My Joe's roll had about an entire shakers worth of pepper on it. The price really shocked me. A bowl and two sushi rolls were over 20 bucks, without a beverage! If I had ordered from a waitress, that wouldn't have surprised me so much, but I ordered from a counter. I do give them kudos for attempting to make heathly fast food. I will probably go here again (maybe I just didn't order the right things last time, or ordering just before closing may have had an effect on the product). A prime location next to Bally's, I would imagine a lot of hungry people would like to dine here after a workout, we did! The bowls are better in value especially if you get some kind of fish (though always look to be overcooked, you might be surprised by the tenderness. I can vouch for the Salmon and Mahi Mahi). I still haven't come up with a solution for the overly sweet, and large in quantity, sauce in my rice. And my experience with Tokyo Joe's "ramen" was horrible... Maybe that's why I also had the Zushi platter. The nigiri (salmon and unagi) are better than the California Roll because I tasted pepper in the latter. What kind of sushi has ground pepper in it? I love Tokyo Joe's. I love that on Mondays they have BOGO sushi rolls which are pretty ok. Of course it's not like super high end sushi but it is made to order and it's pretty good. Also it seems most of the time the people that work here are super Chill but fun as well. Def the tattooed hole in the face crowd, but always good customer service and quality stuff. The sushi is varied- we get mostly Tuna and salmon, but for 6- 8 pc rolls it's 25 bucks.i like the plain old Tuna. The girl loves the poke roll and we both enjoy the crab cheese wAnton roll. It's worth a monthly visit for a bogo sushi. Next I'll get a the poke bowl. read more

The food tasted off. Specifically, at first, my dumplings. One burned my throat and the dipping sauce smelled like soap. So I poured it out assuming maybe it was the sauce. The dumpling itself as well smelled like soap or some cleaning agent, and I stopped eating. I smell the bowl, it too smells of something amiss. I call the store. The initial employee who answered the phone tried explaining they "don't use soap or chemical agents in their food!" Jokingly as if I was making it up. After realizing I understood completely that they don't apply Tide Pods to the food...(well, judging...the jury's still out.)...and that I was not kidding around, she said she'd give me to the manager. Said "manager" proceeds to play the same we don't practice that and I've never heard of it, again, blowing me off as if it was a mistake "I" was making! Bottom line, something was off with the food and I called to let them know so they could stop the sales of whatever may be off or that they maybe weren't smelling (I.E. "masks") Also to let them know I was inconvenienced and would be coming back for a refund. I didn't want to deal with the situation there, if they were busy, and I didn't have time to wait in line, so the forward call was of courtesy, one, and necessity secondly. The manager rushed me off the phone saying "I'll help you when you get here." I get there. He "smells it," and doesn't smell anything...in the middle of the kitchen...surrounded by numerous kitchen smells....good attempt, but pathetic. (Wow, kids these days...) Then, he proceeds to return my money for, "the bowl" of which I hadn't touched, and then tells me he can only return my money for the bowl, and not for my uneaten cookie or the potstickers, the only item I ate "one" of, and tossed a second, returning the last ones... I returned the bowl, the potstickers, and the cookie. He only returned my money for the bowl...........? Pathetic. Childish. Rude. Arrogant. Ignorant. Contacting corporate. It wasn't about the money, it's the principle, AND the money "NOW" because it wasn't about the customer service when you had the chance, respecting a guests opinion or your guest enjoying your services, no. It was about you keeping "cookie and appetizer money." For whatever reason your excuse is...I'm waiting? So Cheap. Disgusting. I welcome any contact from managers/owners for my FULL refund and a discussion about principles, respect, common curtsey and basic customer service skills. Yesterday, I wrote a comment to Tokyo Joe's about my displeasure of an employee carding my 80 year old mother when she ordered a beer. We left and found a great restaurant! The idiot behind the counter said she lose her license if she served her without ID. That is incorrect and insulting, but you can't teach common sense. I received the following response: "I am very sorry we upset you. It is a company poicy to card every person that orders an alcoholic beverage. It doesn't matter what your age is. It is very rude to call someone an idiot. Hope you enjoyed your dinner elsewhere." It's one thing to say it's "company policy" and another to say SHE "could lose HER license." That is a lie! We won't be going back and I will tell everyone I know about the IDIOCY of this policy. There are better places to eat and be treated as valued customers. read more

I love TJ's food in general and its consistent from location to location but service? Just left here because my gf and I went in on our lunch hour from work. We ordered then sat and waited and waited and waited. Finally I went to ask what was taking so long and was told they didn't even have our order number in the system. Wtf??? Its computer generated to the back of the house! Either way I had them refund our card and left to go back to work having wasted our break on weak inconsiderate service. Different way of eating for me, but system seems to work. I usually avoid places other than fast food burger joints where I am expected to order at the counter, prefer table service, but I see why this has to work the way it does. This location is alright. The last few times I have been here the food has been sub-par. The service is usually pretty good though, and that compensates for the bland food. The only reason I keep coming to this location is because it is conveniently located. They do, however, have really nice restrooms. You don't usually find those in mall restaurants so that is a plus. read more
