It's called a Nico salad with chicken and they have a sweet like onion teriyaki dressing that's actually delicious and has avocado, red bell peppers, mandarin oranges, sliced almonds, carrots, and a beautiful fresh spring mix. The salad was absolutely delicious and the staff was amazing. The restaurant was very clean and they've been in business for 30 years happy anniversary. We used to like the food here. Nothing special but decent fast food. But today we ordered steak teriyaki bowls, and the beef was inedible. It was over 2/3's gristle, we could not chew it. The bits that we could eat were super rubbery, tough and tasteless. It was disgusting. Plus, even if it had not been mostly gristle, there were only 4 1/2 little pieces, of beef so certainly not enough to make it worth the 12.75 price plus tip. The vegetables and rice were okay. The gluten free sauce did not have a good flavor. If we had not ordered for take out we might have returned it and we never do that nor do I give bad reviews, but it was so disappointing. read more

The restaurant at 2 pm on a Tuesday was nearly empty yet we sat at a table that had not been wiped down surrounded by dirty tables and un-bussed dishes in every direction. The cleanliness of the restaurant was below target. From where I stood to place my order, a half-eaten box of donuts sat near other food and kitchen utensils. The kitchen looked as dirty as it did disorganized. Our wait for lunch in a nearly empty restaurant was probably 15 minutes. The food was okay with not enough sauce. I would never go back. I've already been made into a Tokyo Joe's fan ever since I first tried their other Fort Collins location last summer. The opening of this location was a pleasant surprise, as the one on College and Troutman is a bit far from me. I've been to this one a handful of times and I can say that the overall experience is pretty similar, though there are a few differences compared to the other facility. First off, this one always seems much less crowded than FC#1. I think the most people I've seen in there at one time was around 6, though they can certainly accommodate a larger crowd. I like that they have free Wi-Fi, but they are rare in the fact that they have a whopping one outlet, and it's impossible to reach since it's on the ceiling. If you come here to do some work, make sure your laptop is charged! I got a neat little punch card in the mail from them the other day, offering a 1st and 5th menu item for free. I'm guessing they're not pulling in as many customers as they'd like. I sure hope they'll be ok. Just a recap from my review of the other Tokyo Joe's in FoCo in which I already reviewed the food: I'm a huge fan of the build your own bowl option, it's all I ever get. The green curry sauce is really good, the perfect amount of kick (though I usually end up using two sriracha packets to make it extra spicy). The tofu is good, though sometimes the cubes aren't cut up all the way. I like getting spinach too, but more often than not it ends up being a blob of green in my bowl, meaning unless I pick the leaves apart I'd get a couple bites that were exclusively spinach and that would be that. Maybe I shouldn't complain, it kind of sounds like I'm a lazy bum who wants other people to evenly distribute my toppings for me. Still haven't tried sushi night, though I'd like to. Their options on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays look much more interesting than their regular sushi rolls. I like that Tokyo Joe's has lots of drink choices too. They have a mobile app, but last time I checked this location wasn't on there, nor was the green curry sauce. If they fixed these two things I'd probably use it much more often. read more

Don't bother. I feel like the staff are all completely stoned. We ran in to get a quick lunch. It took more than half an hour to get a sushi roll and a bento box to go. The bento box was completely cold and the tuna role looks slightly cooked and unappetizing. The veggies are brownish and look like they were previously frozen. Just ok, was hoping it would have been better. I came here for the first time and tried their poke bowl and yakitori bowl. The poke was better than the yakitori, but both felt a little lack luster. The yakitori bowl, I'd never order again. From its description I was expecting a stir-fry noodle type dish. But, noodles were limp, flavorless and disappointing. It's probably meant to be a health food type dish (it has a lot of veggies in it), but the massive amount of icky sweet teriyaki sauce they put on it felt like I was eating candy. The poke bowl was better, not too bad. I just wish they did their ordering system differently. I'm used to more of a subway type ordering for poke where you just pick out which ever toppings you want. Here you only get to pick a few and only from each category. And, they also don't have some traditional toppings like masago which I missed. It was ok for what it was. Fish and avocado tasted fresh. An extra star for the service which was friendly, patient and courteous. The food is fresh and the sauces are a delight. Fresh rolls are a welcome addition to bowls and plates. But the only thing I don't get is, why don't they just mix it up or stir fry the food before they pack it up for you. We've done it to go twice and both times the sauces and food come separately, and since the food is packed till the brim, there is no room to mix the sauces and eat it nor is it ideal to stir fry already precooked food with their sauces. Okay, I'm going to have to dial-back my enthusiasm a bit -- I recently had sushi as a dinner and would not recommend it. While previously I'd tried a 4-piece roll and found it to be a bit sweet but with well-seasoned rice, this time it didn't seem like the rice was seasoned at all. Furthermore, the rice for my nigiri was falling apart. Could be that I came on a weekend this time and they were busier than previously, but really the inconsistency is disconcerting. I also tried the pork gyoza this time and found them to be very blah -- they seemed steamed, not pan fried, and the dipping sauce was pretty much like plain soy sauce. I'm going to stay with 4 stars, but with the caveat that you should stick with the bowls and maybe salads. read more

We had heard good things about Tokyo Joes from people we trust but I don't know why. For us, the place fell flat. We went and tried two different Bento boxes (salmon and steak) and they were both boring, and worse, overpriced. (Wild caught Salmon might be healthier than farm raised but it's leaner and thus tends to be dry by comparison) I would have rather spent the few extra dollars and gone to a better sit down place. We were hoping we would like the place and add a new restaurant into our rotation but sadly, I doubt we will be back. I almost asked for reimbursement for half the ticket but it just sounded like too much trouble. Not because we hated it but because it just isn't worth $30 for the meal. I only give it two stars because the food saved the awful service that we received. Granted we arrived at 8:30 when they close at 9 but they couldn't have been any more unhappy to see us. The girl making sushi was complaining loudly about customers showing up at 8:30 because now she had to stay longer. When we tried to order sushi rolls the girl taking our order informed us that they were out of sushi rice "because they were about to close" said in a ton of voice that I almost told her, nevermind we would go somewhere else. Thought I'd try it since I was in the neighborhood. I ordered a design your own bowl. Was really disappointed in most of it and after reading the reviews here I can see it is warranted. I do think they have a good foundation but are off track with attention to detail that keeps people (like me) coming back. THe two major points off were the WAY over cooked udon noodles that left the bottom of my bowl watery.. NOT GOOD. The other is the questionable veggies, canned mushrooms? other reviews cited frozen veg too. The micro punched out carrot cubes should be the first clue. So, I think if you know just what to order here you would be ok...but it can be a pricy learning curve. read more

Not the most fantastic of taste adventures. If you like boring food that flat lines your taste buds but fills your stomach, this is it. Had yakisoba and gyoza. Noodles were over done to a pasty consistency, and the gyoza were way over steamed to where I could barely pick them up with chop sticks. PB and J roll for the kids wasn't anything exciting, I'm sure my kid was expecting more lol. The veggies were fresh and the chicken was cooked well.
