My husband and I have been loyal customers for 24 years and we travel from a Riverside, we had our very first date here. We have since had 4 children who have enjoyed it just as much. We have celebrated every special occasion here, birthdays, promotions, graduations, our daughters engagement, anniversaries, Valentine's, New Years, plus our regular trips in between, Etc. We came on Saturday just hoping to squeeze in on a table as it was around 6:30 and it was almost empty!! No Guermo who has greeted up happily every visit. The sushi was absolutely disgusting, don't even know why you continue to make it. The bathroom was filthy, the food was not even desirable and half the portion we are use to getting. When for the first time this week. From what I hear, this place has been around forever (more like 15 years, which is forever in small business years). I went for lunch. In comparison to other such establishment where the chef grills right in front of you, this is quite reasonable. You get your choice of soup of salad (dressing awesome, by the way), fried rice, and meat (Only one veggie dish. This place is not recommended for vegetarians). I had the shrimp and scallop combo, which was delightful. I was less than thrilled with their deep-fried ice cream action. It was probably because I was expecting something like Kabuki (green tea with chocolate sauce on the side), but it was more like a strawberry shortcake. If you want light-show action, you'll probably want to drive down Foothill to Shogun. Tokyo Kitchen's got that for dinner. However, food+show=mo' money. By the way, if you're there for lunch, swing by the reptile pet store for a bit. It's fun, but kinda gross. read more

I like Tokyo Kitchen, it's my favorite sushi spot in the IE. Supi (sushi chef) makes me the best hot sauce and i am a hot sauce girl. It's Syracha, chili powder, chili oil and sliced jalepenos. MMMM Salmon is always fresh and Delish so is halibut, albicore, octopus, etc. Also if you vegetarian they can make all kinds of good stuff for you. They do alot of stuff thats not on the menu so ask them to make something special for you. Also I like the Teppan here, i don't eat it ofter because i like the sushi more - but it got a lot of bad reviews and doesn't deserve to, hmmm? read more

I am only speaking for the sushi bar - not the grill. I've eatten at the grill but don't care much for teppan grills so I don't care to provide any opinions about it. The sushi is what I always go for. The stuffed tomato is what I always start with. It is so, so yummy. They also do a couple different versions with salmon (stuffed orange) and some other fish that I'm blanking on right now. I am a huge fan of the specialty rolls they offer. The Kaya roll is amazing and the Pamela special is one of the few things in life that make me actually want to trek beyond the 57 freeway. Any time I go to visit family in the IE we always meet up at "The Kitchen" and stuff our faces on sushi. TK is definitely not a traditional sushi place, nor do they try to be. They know their audience and most of the dishes they prepare are geared toward the americanized versions of sushi. Don't expect omakase style or anything authentic here because it will not happen. Expect sushi that is heavy on flavor, tempura crunchies, green onions, and spicy sauce. read more

It was a coupon we found in an Entertainment Book in the late 90's that led us to Tokyo Kitchen first time. Since then it's become one of our most favorite places to eat, and we eat there at least twice a year. It's very similiar to Benihana, but with lower prices. This is a great place for a group out for the night. The ginger salad dressing is my all time favorite dressing. I wish they'd bottle it and sell it in grocery stores. They have two dipping sauces; one is a sesame dip - perfect for the shrimp, the other is a peach color, good for the vegetables - or try it with the fried rice, it's really good! I wish they'd bottle and sell the sauces too! We always order the steak and shrimp, each and every time the shrimp is cooked perfect and the steak is as tender as can be. Our most recent visit was on a weeknight and they had a good crowd, more people than I'd have expected on a Wednesday night. I'm glad to see this restaraunt is thriving in the bad ecomony, I think that says a lot. read more

The whole family went tonight for a pre-fathers day dinner and all I can say is WOW!!! Better than Benihana or Shogun that is FOR SURE! The chef we got was the BEST Teppanyaki chef I have EVER seen!!! He was incredibly funny and did just the the same old tired routine that we have seen over and over! He ate fire, we caught bowls of fried rice (if your unsure then then take the insurance he offers you) he set multiple fires on purpose, including on the tables in front of us and had us BBQ our meats, & even after the food was all done he stayed and began doing a variety of magic tricks! All that and then did I mention the taste of the food here is absolutely delicious!!! We had an incredible night. LOVE THIS PLACE. it does not get a 5 star because it smells a bit weird when you walk in, and it does not look that clean, the rug, floor. HOWEVER, food is bomb. i think our chef was a Guatemalan guy named alex i think. he was awesome. again the food is bomb. the pricing at night is a bit costy 22 for filet mignon. i say at night because at lunch time i recall going and the plate was 12-15 however, it is a big price drop from benihana. with great taste. not to mention the service is amazing the waiters are frequently passing by to pick up plates and refill your drinks. read more

At one point in time we had buddhas wrapped around the grill from one side to another. Tokyo Kitchen is your standard teppan grill restaurant with sushi and drinks. It seems everyone comes for their birthday to receive the special treatment and wear the special hat. The food is quality cuts of meat and seafood with grilled vegetables, rice, shrimp appetizer & soup. The prices are reasonable and the staff is warm and courteous. My family and I have been going here for over 20 years, and its one of the few restaurants that is consistently good. The entire staff treats you like family and works hard to make sure you have an enjoyable experience. The food is amazing, and some of the best Japanese food I've ever had. I love the fried rice, shrimp tempura, soup, salad, sushi, steak teppan, and green tea ice cream. The alcohol drinks are good too, my favorite being the Green Eyes. For anyone trying this place for the first time, I'd recommend going during their lunch hour, where the fried rice is included, and the prices vary between $10-$18. So this is a little hole in the wall place that use to have a lot more locations. It is your typical Teppan grill type restaurant. Wait time can be excessive with a large party or if it's a holiday but the food is really good. The interior is pretty outdated and could use some sprucing. Average price... I'd say most dinners are about $25-$30~. Portions are decent and of course, the food is freshly prepared at the table. The food tastes great and most of the chef's are entertaining. I had never been to a Teppan restaurant and was always told by friends that the portions you get for the price at these types of restaurants never were worth it. This place was worth it. The portions were great and the prices were reasonable. I left satisfied as did my wife who only ate stuffed mushrooms and California Rolls. The Sesame Chicken and Shrimp was delicious. This year my brother's and I wanted to take our dad somewhere new. I was told about Tokyo kitchen by a friend and decided to try it out. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and taken to our table. The place had a relaxed and comforting feel to it that was very inviting. The cooks are nice, entertaining, fast and efficient, just the way i like it. I ordered the steak and shrimp combo. The salad had a delicious tangy dressing, and the soup was simple and surprisingly Delicious for just broth. The shrimp and steak ( cooked in front of you on a large open grill) was cooked to perfection. The fried rice and vegetables were seasoned perfectly and work well as a side dish. A solid 4.75 stars. I'll admit, the first time my husband brought me here (when we were dating a million years ago), I was pretty skeptical. There was no way this was going to be good. Boy, did I eat my words. The sushi is fantastic, the service so friendly, and even the teppan was pretty good (and I'm not really a fan of teppan). I knocked off a quarter of a star because the last time we were there, the sushi chef (who must have been new?) was all over the place in cutting our pieces. My wife wanted to go to Benny Hana's for dinner on Valentine's day. However, the waiting time for a table at Hana's was ridiculous. I pulled out my phone, went to Yelp, and Yelpers came to our rescue and suggested this restaurant. While the decor is not as fancy or up to date as Benny Hana's, the food was delicious, good portions, and definitely less expensive. We had the steak and lobster, veggies, regular rice, shrimp appetizer, sake, and dessert; all for less than $85.00!!! Again, the portions were so generous that my wife had to get a take out box. I did not give five stars because I think the Sake was a bit lacking of flavor- I found Benny Hana's had a more robust flavor. I will definitely be back!!! read more

I have been enjoying meals at Tokyo Kitchen for more than 30 years, actually since they opened. I started bringing my daughter here when she was a little girl. She has kids of her own, and still returns every year for dinner on her birthday. We have enjoyed numerous birthday parties here, and expect to do so for many more years to come. The quality of the food has been first rate all along, and never waivers. The waitstaff have always been very friendly and warmly welcoming, no matter how busy they have been. For lunch today my office went here , normally it's a great place to eat . Our chef was Cesar this guy had no personality, he didn't say a word to us just cooked and left !!!! The best part is as he was cooking the fried rice I was like isn't there supposed to be a egg in it ??? He didn't say a word. At the very end he scrabbled eggs and just put them on the plate . My party of two sat at the bar. Food was good. Our ticket got lost so it took a while to get our food, but the waitress was very nice. She brought us a sushi roll on the house for the wait. The bartender was a female and was not very welcoming. First she asked us to see our IDs, my aunt had to go to her car to get hers because she said "if you're going to sit at the bar then I need to see an ID" which I totally understand. But then another party of four come up to the bar and sat and she did not ask to see their IDs they got a warm "what would you guys like". If you're going to "follow the law" then do it for everyone. I ordered a virgin mojito, and upon reviewing the receipt I noticed the bartender rang it in as a mojito so I got charged the regular $16. I asked the waitress why I was charged as if it had alcohol when it had no alcohol and when she asked the bartender about it the lady told her to charge me the $16. Luckily the manager was near and told the waitress she would fix the price and I was only charged $8. Staff other than the bartender were very nice and accommodating. read more

It took them 35 minutes to take our order, my son and I just sat there while we were completely ignored. Our waitress stood at the register with the owner for over half an hour and I finally had to ask for service. They are completely unorganized. The cook was nice but the food was super bland. This same cook is always complaining about how overworked he is. They work these poor cooks to death, it just doesn't seem right. The soup was super salty so my son couldn't eat it. I very specifically asked for no onions in our rice and he added onions anyway. He tried to serve it to us but I had to call him out on it. They all seem to cook differently which shouldn't be the case, they should all be on the same page. Some days the food is good, others it's bland and gross. I think only 2 of the cooks know what they're going. Antonio is one of them. For what you pay, one should have the same experience every time. Lastly, it's significantly over priced. Recently my wife and I introduced her brother to the Tokyo. Service from our Japanese waitress was great, she was around quickly and took our starter order of Asahi beer, An order of Edename and Spicy tuna roll. Asahi is a great beer if you haven't tried it yet, Edename is never bad, but I would prefer it served warm with Margarita salt, the Spicy tuna roll is the best roll anywhere! Simple but very tasty. This was the bro's first time with sushi, and he seemed to like that the most of everything he had. All three of us had fillet Mignon and lobster. This was the beginning of why 4 stars and not 5, our Hispanic cook arrived! After he confirmed our order, he leaned over and mumbled something. "....allergy......last....." "What??" I said. "....allergy....shrimp.....last..." Because I have superior deduction skills, I was able to determine what the hell he just said, and gave him the OK. He spoke and understood English, he just...mumbled.... He fumbled around cutting up an onion for the famous onion volcano that kind of fizzled and smoked, just like this guys routine, there was no sharp looking knife skills are tricks after, that I have seen before. This was not a problem for me, I have seen all of that before, all I expect is for the food to be cooked the way I want it to, taste great and served right from the teppan cooking top so hot you can barely put it in your mouth. This chef did all of that very well. My wife on the other hand was pissed that this guy had no personality and no Japanese knife skills, she wanted her brother to experience that. I recommend you call in advance and request a chef with knife and entertainment skills if that's important to you. I've seen them here before and I am sure they will accommodate. I only have two stars because the wait staff did a good job keeping our cups full and taking our orders. Our chef was the most unenergetic, unsocial, and un-entertaining Teppan chef we have ever had. We watched him do a so so job on the table next to us then came to us and did ZERO entertaining at all. Had our kids, it was a bummer watching all the other tables around us laughing and their chef doing hilarious gags and tricks. My kids were so jealous. We paid over 100 dollars for a terrible experience. That being said, the food was delicious. However, you pay for the experience and ours was terrible. This place used to be amazing.
