When i tell you its amazing, its crazy good. Im a person thats really picky with my sushi but they serve the freshest sushi with a generous proportion and reasonable price. The service is also great specially when u drink bc our server matthew came couple times and vibed with us and made sure we had the best sushi experience. Even if you are a newbie to sushi, they will explain every sushi you order to make sure you get the best experience. I also ordered their sake Kabuta Maju sake which no other sushi place near by offers for a really good price. They will even place a poster of your sake banner to let everyone know you ordered a fancy sake. Rude. Bad customer service. And check your bill because they over charged everything and won't give you a receipt. When you ask why you're being over charged, they tell you" mandatory tip" but still won't give you a receipt of how much. I've eaten here three times and never noticed it until the service I received today. Won't be coming back. read more

I was looking for a sushi place in Redlands that served sashimi. I found Tokyo restaurant on yelp and I'm super disappointed the fish was not fresh the sushi chef was staring at me like I was an alien or something when I asked him for Toro a blue fin and any specialty fish that are not on the menu. The only thing that I was good on the menu was a yellowtail caller I ate two of those and they were pretty good. The Unagi was cold and it had like a sauce that was just like a teriyaki glaze it was weird the tuna was mushy the salmon was not bad the yellowtail was also mushy I'm really disappointed with my experience I'm not sure I would ever return again. I spent $67 by myself with no alcohol it would've been better to go to Machi Machi and gold for all you can eat read more

This review is in direct response to a shameful review posted by Abril F. We were in the restaurant at the same time and witnessed/listened to the entire interaction between her and the owner she was complaining about. Abril and her mother were extremely rude and demanding from the moment they walked in; to the point where they drew attention to themselves. My family has been going to Tokyo Restaurant for over 20 years and have always been greeted/served with kindness and gratitude. (Not to mention excellent sushi.) Abril's review was dishonest, conniving and shameful. The poor restaurant's window was just vandalized moments before arriving and was already being fixed by a third party technician as we were finishing up, about 45 mins later. Certainly not a "safety hazard" as mentioned in Abril's review as the owner had blocked off the tables in close proximity to the window. This was only mentioned in her review out of spite and was taken out of context. The owner certainly did not call her a "b**ch" and treat them unprofessionally as claimed in Abrils review. The restaurant industry has truly suffered immensely since the start of the pandemic and many have not recovered. Its people like Abril that only throw salt on a painful wound. Be compassionate and remember the Golden Rule; treat others with kindness and dignity FIRST! read more

Favorite local sushi spot! First of all, the staff here is so welcoming and friendly. I have a gluten allergy that got really bad a couple years ago, and the staff/owners here really take care of me! I have so much appreciation for them. They'll bring out the gluten free soy sauce, as well as split all of mine and hubby's roll in half, with no sauce on one half (to accommodate my gluten allergy). They are super understanding, and I really appreciate not feeling like a pest for my allergies. Not only that, but the fish is ACTUALLY FRESH! Very tasty rolls, and even just the sushi itself is great (good-quality fish!). Last time, we even received some nice fatty pieces of salmon in our salmon sushi order, SO GOOD! My favorite sushi place in the whole city, dare I say in all of SBC. Friendly service, delicious rolls, and cozy atmosphere. Some of our favorite rolls are Lemon Tree, Caterpillar, and Las Vegas. I'm actually a little shocked at the few negative reviews. Maybe I haven't encountered the server they're talking about, but I think it's more likely their review is missing some info about how they came in treating the servers... because my Latino [not white-passing, either] husband and I have had only good experiences, even when he has gone alone. Servers are people, too and sometimes in life you get the attitude you give. Only criticisms: I'm not a fan of the torched rolls' butane taste - maybe they could try bouncing the flame off of charcoal? So Mom and Pop SUSHI in a small town outside of their main square can be risky. Yet the encouraging Yelp reviews and the bustling business we witnessed on a cold Saturday night were encouraging. My partner in crime and I walked in and the masked staff was immediately attentive and friendly. They invited us to sit at the tiny but cozy sushi bar in the back. What the hell... we rolled the dice. Since we're relocating to the Redlands, we compared this place to our favorite Pasadena sushi restaurant, Tokoro. We even ordered very similar rolls of sushi for a direct comparison. Let's just say -- -- I was completely surprised at how fresh and tasty this sushi was. The rolls weren't identical, but similar... and in some cases better. (I know, right?) We will definitely return. I wish the restaurant interior (and bathrooms) were nicer but this just isn't that kind of place. Yet. If this were located in a better hood I'd dock them a star for this. But being this close to a DQ and KFC but serving THIS LEVEL sushi? All is forgiven. read more

We have eaten at Tokyo Restaurant for years. The food is always good and the service is great too. Some of our favorites are the Spanish roll, Dancing Shrimp and Tiger Roll. What a cute little hole-in-the-wall! I went around 3pm and the restaurant was EMPTY! I was quite surprised but maybe 3pm is an odd time to eat out. The food didn't take very long to come and definitely SATISFIED my udon cravings! The broth had a nice flavor and everything was well made! My only semi-complaint = the waitress/hostess was pretty inattentive, esp since I was the only one in the restaurant lol. I had to wave at her for a little while before she looked up to answer any questions/bring napkins etc (I think she was at her booth watching a movie and who can blame her since service was slow). And as I was checking out, she actually engaged me in conversation and was very warm towards me and told me to come back and keep working hard in school etc... We go here at least twice a week and it never disappoints Matthew is such a great person and makes you feel right at home with his wonderful personality and customer service. We have been coming here for 13 years, the owner called her self Ms Sushi, she treated everyone like family, my now year old had her first sushi here and only wants to go here, she hung up kids drawings (including my daughters) she new our order, she welcomed us with a smile. My fiancee and I were really afraid to try this place for sushi since it looked a bit sketchy on the outside. It's literally squashed in between a DQ and a random Thai restaurant. However, all it took was a lazy night to drive to the closest sushi spot near where we lived. We judge our sushi based on either uni, amaebi, and maguro, or all three if they have it. Tokyo Restaurant was one of the places that did offer all three! While that got our hopes up, we needed to taste it first before deciding. Uni, or more well known as sea urchin, should be lightly briny, mildy sweet, and oh-so-melt-in-your-mouth buttery. The uni served here was exactly that. Moreover, the amaebi came with their heads deep fried--a signature Japanese restaurant mark of quality! And of course, maguro, better known as tuna, was delicious as well. I went in for a good Sushi dinner here. The parking was a bit tough when I got there. There is a lot of parking in the rear but it is shared parking with a couple other businesses. Once I got parked I went in and sat at the Sushi Bar. I was greeted by the Sushi Chef. The server came over and asked me what I wanted to drink. I ordered a beer and got an order sheet. I ordered some Sushi, a hand roll, and a Japanese Burrito. The chef got my order and went to make it. I got my beer and was ready for my food. I remember you used to get a salad while waiting. Not tonight... Well I was really hungry when my Sushi and rolls came out. The Sushi was fresh and was great. I then tried the hand roll. That was really good to. Let me tell you, the Japanese burrito is always great here and today they were just as good!!! Wow, Great food this visit. I have to say the rolls here are the best!! The price is not bad. With 106° weather outside and needing my thirst quenched, I only received one refill on my drink. I have to say, I wasn't impressed with this place, as my friend suggested to eat here. The owner sat behind the cash register and never looked once at our table upon taking our order. Perhaps this place is perfect for take-out because you can serve yourself with the food they prepare. The location is very small and so it would make perfect sense to go for the option to take-out your food. Also, you can't see your sushi being prepared which also is uninviting for me.
