I really like their yakisoba noodle dish, and I love that they're always happy to accommodate my request that it come with chicken, beef AND shrimp. They charge a couple bucks more for the indulgence, but to me it's waaaay worth it, I highly recommend placing this special order. Squirt a pool of The Rooster in a corner of the container on your way out . . . ahhh, yeah The hot & spicy anything is good, and for those trying to cut the carbs, the chicken teriyaki salad is a must. Delicious and light. And they automatically put the teriyaki sauce on the side, which is nice, giving you the choice to drench or drizzle The prices are great for the huge portions you get. I learned quickly that you're not just ordering lunch, you're also ordering leftovers. I've never once finished an entree in one sitting. The only negatives . . . I haven't really been impressed with any of the sides, and the sushi is beyond blah. The seating area is tiny, but I've never gone there to sit and eat, so no biggie to me. It comes with Chicken, vegetables, edamame, potstickers and a drink. Chicken was dry, it was expected. I think many people have commented same about chicken being little dry. It is cooked on charbroiler. So expect the little dryness. Spicy tuna roll was fresh and enjoyable. I think they just made it when i ordered it. So make sure to ask when it was made before ordering. Because it is already made and stored inside the container. Service was good. Owner was friendly and attentive. For the money. This place is a great for quick lunch. When I'm in the office, I love to grab lunch at this spot - basic chicken katsu with rice, OMG... Very simple dish, but they do it so well! Chicken is definitely crispy and tastes great (in my opinion)! I still need to try their other dishes, but I'm just hooked on the katsu, so that's my quick go to. I suggest just going for the large option since you get nearly double the size of a small for about 2 bucks more. I'm writing this especially because I just got some chicken katsu from Yogi's Grill - wasn't expecting it to be better, but dude..... yogi's doesn't even compare to Tokyo Stop AT ALL... Food is not terrible. Way too much teriyaki sauce. My main concern is the way the food is handled. I asked for a side salad and the lady didn't wash her hands and fixed the salad with her bare hands. I'm visiting from California and I'm extremely disgusted with the way businesses operate here in Arizona, especially this one. No one in the kitchen is wearing a mask. I'm currently eating the lunch I just picked up from here. I picked up because the place is small and has really few seats and they were all full. Long line to order and pick up which is usually a good sign. Decided to try the teriyaki chicken and potstickers. Since I've been in Phoenix I've only found one teriyaki place I like, which is tough because I used to eat teriyaki all the time when I lived in Seattle. The potstickers I am currently eating are delicious. They are crispy, just the way I like them, and they have great flavor. I could eat these all day. The teriyaki chicken is good, but is just swimming in sauce. I know a lot of people like a lot of sauces on their food, so please disregard my comments if you are one of those people, but I am a minimalist when it comes to sauces so this is a little much for me. If I order this again I will definitely ask for the sauce on the side. Good place for take out, not so much for dining in, especially during the lunch rush (I went in just after noon). I'll probably come back here but definitely won't be able to finish the teriyaki chicken I got today due to the sauce. read more

A great place for a work lunch given the speed and quality of service. I've only had their Teriyaki Chicken so far - it's a large portion of chicken under a very standard, sweet Americanized sauce. I have visited Tokyo Stop twice now for an a-ok lunch. There's nothing really bad about Tokyo Stop, but it just hasn't blown my socks off. On my first visit I had the bulgogi plate. It was HUGE. Full of hot marinated beef and a large serving of white rice. I've had bulgogi several times before and this bulgogi is a-ok. Again, not the best I have had, but not bad! I poured Sriracha all over it and I was a happy girl! The second time I visited, I ordered the teriyaki chicken combo. Again, another a-ok dish. Nothing fancy! The prices for each dishs is VERY reasonable. I don't think I've paid over $7 for anything. I would most certainly visit Tokyo Stop again. They offer a solid lunch at reasonable prices. read more

My coworkers and I LOVE to grab Tokyo Stop for lunch... we go a few times a month. The lunch box meals are one of the best deals for a full lunch that you will find anywhere. I always go for Bento Box E - Teriyaki chicken and rice, a spring roll, 3 cream cheese wontons, and a drink... for $10! The teriyaki is grilled fresh, you can taste the char, and the portions are more than generous... I'm a big dude with a big appetite and have never left unsatisfied. This place has gotten some mixed reviewed and I can see why. Many family owned restaurants don't uphold a high level of cleanliness or level of customer service. I've been coming here for the past 8 years and this place has gone through only 1 owner. The taste of their dishes remained the same which is why I keep coming back. I'm a huge fan of their chicken Yakisoba, Curry chicken, and lunch box combos. They grill chicken over flames and has a nice char taste. During lunch hour this place does get packed and seating is very limited so come before noon on weekdays if you want to sit down. When it comes to Asian food, some people are bias because they get a taste of something wonderful in the past and that's all they compare it to. If it doesn't taste similar,it's mediocre. We originally stopped at the little Japanese store next door for their lunch bowls, but being underwhelmed by the selection and seeing very little room inside to eat, we wandered next door to Tokyo Stop. I love these little places--very small, but low overhead means lower prices, and less of a chance that the place will go out of business. We were there for lunch, and the place was super busy, but the owner treated everyone like they were a VIP customer. The food was good--I had the Katsu Bowl, while my wife and stepson had different types of noodles (can't recall exactly what now...this was a few days ago). Anyway, everything was good--not great--but good, and especially good for the price. Again, this is a very non-fancy, family run, very small, very friendly, inexpensive, decent place for lunch. I feel like Ron Burgundy as he bashes frozen yogurt for trying to be anything like his beloved ice cream and tries to give it zero stars. In this case, how dare you call your "chicken katsu" .... chicken katsu. I've been craving chicken katsu for days and saw this place during my errands. To keep it short, when you order chicken katsu you will not get chicken katsu, not even close. You will instead get barely fried/soft pieces of chicken (think teriyaki chicken); not even the right breading nor the right part of the chicken they usually use. Also, they will give you Katsu sauce, but it's really hoisin sauce. I thought all of this was a horrible mistake, but that's how they do things there. Talk about confusing and misleading, I feel like I ordered a hamburger and got a fish filet instead. read more

I took my wife to lunch here last week. We both were very disappointed. We sat near the kitchen door. The food was terrible. I have had the teriyaki chicken many times before. This time the chicken was as dry as bacon, and the sauce didn't taste like teriyaki. My wife ordered sweet and sour pork. She took 2 bites and was afraid to eat more. I tasted it. Neither of us liked it, and we agreed it wasn't even close to tasting like sweet and sour anything. The table was sticky. The floor of the kitchen was filthy. I used to pop in here for lunch. I think this is one of the best Japanese/Asian fastfood/rice bowl places in the valley. I have been going to them for over 10 years when I have worked at various places in the Tempe area. They have really good rice bowls and a large variety of toppings to put in them, from curry to teriyaki to bulgogi to spicy chicken, chili chicken and good veggies. I really like the miso soup they have and often order that as a side. I would like to see a couple of things: a smaller side dish of california rolls, and soup. On the lunch combos, I'd like to see a bit more flexibility with a choice of entree and two sides rather than a list of set entrees and sides. Normally this might subtract a star from the "As good as it gets" rating but Tokyo Stop has been consistently good to me for so long that they get the bonus star. Passing through Phoenix area and came across this place on Yelp near my hotel. They offer many Asian items on the menu. We had a large order of California rolls and a Yakisoba (stir fried noodles). The price was very reasonable and the portion was generous. Most importantly, the food was tasty. Will definitely come back again when I am back in the area. read more
