Being from an area where there are numerous good restaurants and world cuisines makes finding good food difficult when I'm away from home. I haven't found any stellar restaurants in the Ft. Lauderdale area that I really like. I saw the 4.5 stars on Yelp for this restaurant and thought for sure, the quality and taste would be as good as the sushi restaurants back in CA, especially since this restaurant is known for omakase. We arrived at opening. The wait for food to be served was long although there was only one table seated before us. The ambience was simple and clean. Wait staff was friendly. The food however, tasted like Americanized sushi at best. Even the rice was dry and fell short of sushi rice from an average sushi restaurant that can be found at every corner of my neighborhood. The shrimp ramen was so salty, we had to add water to it. Miso soup was less than memorable but the one thing this restaurant did well, was the fried rice. Our cruise ship had a stop in Ft. Lauderdale and I was craving some sushi. I found Tokyo Sushi on yelp which was in walking distance and decided to try it. The staff were awesome and Hara our server was friendly and very welcoming. We ordered edamame, crispy rice with spicy tuna for starters. We also had the Red Dragon roll, mango roll and my son was able to order his favorite roll that wasn't even on the menu. Everything was delicious and I think we ate every bite. If we come back to Ft. This was such a beautiful little hidden gem with a wonderful sushi chef curating the Omakase experience. I've been to many Omakase bad sadly I'm regards to my own preferences the pieces weren't very special. Although the chef was kind and knowledgeable all the pieces had the exact same toppings which didn't really elevate the nigiri at all. It was hard to find a favorite piece cause they all tasted the same and fishy. I've had sushi here twice now and it's excellent. Ambiance is okay but nothing fancy if you plan on dining in. Service could have been better. I went here for a late lunch and there were only 2 other customers in the restaurant. Apart from bringing me my food and first drink, I was never checked on.
