    Fish Chirashi Bowl
    Katie P.

Don't be fooled by the humble exterior - this place has more to offer than it seems. I ordered the fish chirashi bowl and it was delicious : perfectly seasoned, filling and tasty. Sienna provided exemplary and friendly service and the inside was very clean and cozy. If you're looking for a place to get a quick bite that won't break the bank, look no further!

    Bento Box #2

Absolutely Perfect! The was food amazing! Highly recommend the bento boxes (they come with a LOT of food and it was all equally delicious). The service provided by Sienna was above and beyond, this place is top notch! I ordered take out right at the peak dinner hour yet the wait was not bad and my food was ready sooner than expected and I even received a call right when it was ready.

Bento box, chicken teriyaki, tempura and California roll combo. I already ate the salad.

Have you ever gone to the Pig and Pancake and ordered a $16 plate of slop, wolfed it down, and then…read moresaid, "Oh God, what have I done?" Yeah, me too. That's why I've decided to stop hurting myself and go to the Chalkboard Cafe instead. The difference in quality of ingredients and cooking is apparent in the first bite. It really is a bit jarring. This restaurant makes everything from scratch, and I mean everything. Yesterday my son and I got two burgers and our potato salad and coleslaw sides were like sides my mother would make in her kitchen, not globs of shelf stable Reser's food-paste that were made two states over a month ago and sprayed with mortuary chemicals to stop their decay. The food at the Chalkboard is real food, not fake food, which brings me to my next point, dietary restrictions. If I had any dietary restrictions whatsoever, gluten sensitivity in particular, this would be where I would go for breakfast or lunch in Seaside. Chalkboard has gluten free biscuits and gravy available, delicious GF naan bread made by hand, and gluten free versions of popular bakery goods made in their small kitchen from scratch. Even if you don't have restrictions you can be assured that your meal will have 80% less total ingredients just based on the restaurant's ethics alone. They aren't taking shortcuts, they aren't bringing junk into the building in the first place, so junk never ends up on your plate. The service is stellar, the ambiance is charming and clean. You're out of excuses. You were wondering where you should go to eat, and now you know. Go to the restaurant where the locals take their own families - the Chalkboard Cafe.

She suggested the beef medallions with mushrooms, so we got that, as well as the house lasagna. Both were absolutely delicious! Lasagna is his all time favorite - and what his mother would have made him if we had been able to make it back East for his birthday, (but we got stormed out). I was thrilled that he thought this was just as good. I don't do mushrooms but can maneuver my way around them (which means picking them out at putting them on my boyfriends plate). The restaurant is charming and intimate and decor very much takes you from Seaside, OR to any small town in Italy (or Little Italy in NYC). Maria was our server (according to the receipt) and she was awesome! She was personable, and spent time visiting with us and telling us the history of the restaurant. She also helped me be sneaky and hid the little birthday cake I snuck in my bag and hid it in back, then had brought it out later; adding a bunch of ice cream to it - and got the other restaurant guests to suing Happy Birthday to him. My boyfriend is fairly private so this intimate setting and delicious food, was exactly what he wanted and a wonderful surprise for him.

We were seated and served right away, which is always nice. Our server was very pleasant and took good care of us throughout our visit. The food was good, but didn't impress me as much as it did on our last visit. I had carbonara, which is always my go-to baseline meal, and it wasn't bad, tasted ok, but didn't blow me away at all. My wife did enjoy her dish, however, and our drinks were very tasty too. It might have just been me, so I'm not going to say don't go here, you absolutely should, because this is probably the most authentic Italian you're going to get in this area and it's worth a visit!

I had the beet salad OMG the horseradish chèvre was the PERFECT compliment to the beets and classic hazelnuts. My husband had the weathervane scallop plate in a mushroom broth. He prefers scallops seared, so this wasn't to his liking. No reflection on the dish itself or its preparation; just personal preference. For his main course he chose the OUTSTANDING Beachcomber Stew and savored every morsel. The prices are shockingly good for what you get, and they somehow manage to get food out fast without sacrificing quality. What I love most is the space. Even when town is packed, you are not jammed in elbow to elbow with people. Families, kids, locals, everybody just looks comfortable there. Big open historic theater, great food, quick service, sports on the screen later in the day, and good atmosphere without the chaos. Screen up or screen down, this place is one of my favorites.
