For a traveling foodie, this is a must-eat location! They just changed to their spring menu and it is SO fresh and delicious! I had the duck with puréed celery root and fresh veggies and the duck was cooked perfectly, with an amazing Indian-tasting spice blend! I also had the fresh snap pea salad and, again, BOMB!!! Also, I tried this Bean Blossom cider and it was so light and refreshing and highly recommended. Tolon is located in the cutest up and coming artsy district in downtown Ft Wayne! Today with friends at Tolon to celebrate a special event and had an awful experience with the owner, Nicky. We asked our waiter if we could move to a different table. He said he'd check and Nicky comes out versus our waiter. Why? To tell us in a passive aggressive way that we changed our reservation from 7 to 5 and an undertone of "how dare you ask to move tables". The energy was bad from Nicky, so we said "Nevermind, we will stay at this table" and she walked away. In a private conversation amongst ourselves, our table stated "it'll be in the review" due to her bad customer service. Nicky heard, came BACK to our table and said "I don't appreciate ...". Yes she was offended. Thinking we needed to resolve, we asked for the other owner, her husband. MISTAKE, Nicky came back to the table and asked us to leave after being there 30 minutes. We've never been kicked out of an establishment. It was demeaning, it was embarrassing, it was unnecessary. Our waiter was amazing. We will never go there again. We paid the check (appetizers) anyway & tipped our waiter. Disgusted at the owners!! In response to Nicky N. the owner. Nicky, several statements made in your still very unprofessional response are very much not true. We are very aware that "people have a right to dine with their children" and in an effort to 1. enjoy our adult girls time and not have to hinder our conversation because children were less than 2 feet away (wanting to respect young ears), and 2. the circular part of the bench was an odd position, we asked to be moved. While you did offer us different tables, one which was in the middle of the room the other was a 4 top for a party of 5 (not sure how that would have worked), it was way beyond the table change at that point. Initially when we asked to change we told our server that if we weren't able to move (especially if he couldn't remain our server because he was great) we would make our current location work, so expecting him t come back with an answer versus you was not abnormal. The way you sauntered over to the table and responded to a simple request as if we were rude or a bother was the first customer customer service issue. The second one was when the comment was made of "I'll just leave it in my review" by one of the members of our party, that was said directly to those at the table and if you heard it, as a professional, it's not okay to come tell a customer "I don't appreciate what you said". What was her experience with how you approached us was just that hers and whether you like it or not she can use that experience in the thoughts on her whole experience (which was not over by the way) if she chose. You don't have the right to take that from her because you don't like it. We even told you our experience was not over and that our service from the server could change our minds on how we currently felt about the experience. It was never said the review was going to be one star or anything of that nature. Reviews can be all encompassing of an experience and not based off one thing, and not be solely good or bad. We had every right to reassure our server that we were NOT displeased with him and wanted to try and continue on with the night. As we tried to enjoy our drinks and apps, it was growing harder and harder to try and shake the demeaning way you talked to us, so yes we asked to speak to the other owner, your husband in an effort to gain understanding as to why you responded the way you did. Even when you came over versus him the second time, you refused to allow me specifically to speak with you in the calm manner in which I was speaking. You interrupted me twice, and referred to my sister at the table who made the review comment as "that lady, (which sarcastically switched to that lovely lady over there) as if she was not present at the table. You became loud and rude. Then in a dehumanizing way, asked us to leave when we had done nothing wrong. We got up to leave and the sister who was the most disturbed by your behavior paid the check for the appetizers and drinks (over $60) we were not allowed to consume or even box up, paid the bill and even gave our wonderful server a tip over 20%. read more

What an awesome little spot. We happened to be coming into town on Valentine's Day for the weekend, so I knew I'd probably need a dinner reservation somewhere. I took to Yelp and found the perfect place. Tolon is cozy, warm and friendly, with an incredibly inventive menu yet without an ounce of pretension. Our server was lovely, and upon finding out we were first timers, told us all about the Tolon family and why she loves working there. It's Farm to Table at its best, and you feel like one of the family when you dine in. We started with the Brussels sprouts, insanely good deviled eggs (with miso in them! Genius!) and duck fat fries. We sampled their French Onion soup and delicious kale Caesar before diving into our dinners of gorgeous seared scallops, a wickedly wonderful giant pork chop and a braised short rib pasta dish. After looking at the menu online, I'd told myself I had to have dessert. After all, it was Valentine's Day! But...we were too full. There is one restaurant in Fort Wayne that would have the chops to compete in New York, Chicago, LA. It's Tolon. The difference is in New York, LA or Chicago, you won't find the owners serving food to tables or out front spreading salt if it snows. It's clear they make a great team and have great pride in their businesses. It comes through not only in the food but in the cleanliness and the even through the overall good natured attitude of the staff. Being in Fort Wayne after having spent several years in Southern California and grown accustomed to the higher quality cuisine, this actually is the only restaurant in town that we enjoy eating at and spending money at. Yes duck fat is a much better fat to cook things in but you can't lean on just that to charge $9-$15 more than everyone else. Went here for the first time Saturday night & wow, I can't believe it took me this long to get here. I don't have a single bad thing to say. Service was great from when we walked in the door to when we left (lost track of time & ended up staying past close, sorry!). My friend and I each started with an old fashioned but opted to have it made with makers mark rather than the rye that they normally would make it. SO yummy. We got the grilled shrimp for a starter. 6 huge pieces of shrimp with white bean & I believe am heirloom tomato mixture. Perfect for 2 people to split, definitely 3 if you are getting a salad or something else also. We then each got the watermelon salad. Note: it's huge! We probably could've split it but then we wouldn't of had wonderful leftovers to eat the next day. Watermelon, cucumber, mint, red jalapeños, perfection. We decided to split the chicken entree. It was so juicy that I could cut it with a fork. The white bean hummus was a nice side with it and the charred lemon was a great touch. I will definitely be back here. The menu changes with the seasons so try not to get too attached to the meal you have. We meet with a group and everyone loved their food. We also lived the drinks. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and particularly when we weren't what drinks to try he asked us what we liked and then made suggestions and it worked great. The duck fat fries were awesome especially with the basil dipping sauce which we promptly asked for more of. My husband and I have tried all but one of the well known steak houses in Fort Wayne and I will say that the steak that I was surprised that the steak I got here beat all of the other places hands down. My husband is not much of a salad eater but raved about his tomato-avocado salad. Overall a great experience and I would say thus far the best restaurant we have gone to in Fort Wayne. Outstanding, incentive food and so many excellent vegetarian options! The staff is so friendly and accommodating, I'm truly impressed. I have been to Tolon twice (once for lunch and once for dinner) and I seriously don't have one complaint. My mom is allergic to onions, and they were so great about working around it and bringing her alternatives/ removing onions from the dishes we ordered. We had the Brussel sprout salad & the vegetarian pot pie which were both outstanding. For dessert we had the vanilla popcorn pot de creme which also exceeded our expectations. I'm from Chicago and am prob spoiled by the restaurant selection but this place is fine dining prices with Applebees food/drink; food is mediocre and overpriced. Also had very poor service: they brought out wrong dish, didn't give me fork and tried to track one down for a couple minutes (which is long when you're trying to eat your food). Asked for wifi password to try to do some work at bar and was surly told they don't provide that. Then waited 10 minutes for the check. Won't be back here next time in town and recommend looking elsewhere read more

Tolon was everything I expected it to be and more! I have heard mixed reviews about the restaurant since it has opened but I had to try it out for myself. I made reservations for a Friday evening and the restaurant was pleasantly busy. The adorable space is nestled downtown beneath Randall Lofts right off Harrison. You can find parking along the street or in a few of the lots close by. The atmosphere is bright and modern. There are cozy booths, wooden tables, exposed brick and local art hanging on the walls. There was a nice mix of music playing in the background, by no means loud, but made for a comfortable experience. The hostess welcomed us with a warm greeting and seated us right away. I must say I was blown away by our waitress! She knew every detail about the menu, was super friendly and made for an all around great dining experience. When she knew it was our first time to the restaurant she explained the farm to table concept and raved about all of the local vendors used to source items on the menu. I loved hearing about this. Each person who was working that evening seemed genuinely happy and were willing to accommodate us in any way. I started off with an old fashioned which did not disappoint. We decided to go with the Indiana brie cheese fondue for our appetizer. Oh my goodness, this was amazing. The cheese was warm with a nice little kick from the red chilies. And the focaccia bread made it the perfect pair! After our appetizer we split the brussel sprout salad, which was a heaping portion. It was fresh, crunchy and something different (in a good way of course). Then for our entrees we ordered the shrimp & grits and the chicken & waffles. Both of these were to die for. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and laid on a bed of whipped cauliflower with a perfect sauce on top. And the chicken and waffles was a unique, sweet and savory dish. The chicken was laid on two cornbread waffles with a perfect gravy to top it off. After checking out the dessert menu we could not resist trying to the house made ice creams. We tried a scoop of the Vietnamese coffee and a scoop of the bourbon buttermilk. These two were the perfect combo together. A fantastic treat to end our meal! I love the fact they do everything local and fresh every day and the menu changes all the time. With that said when we went all four of us kinda struggled a little to find something to try with the menu they had at the time. The food was good. Very well prepared. But wasn't memorable, very good not great. The best part was the apps. We got the house made Chex mix and it was awesome! The service was great. The atmosphere was nice. The cocktails where on point. Came here for an early valentines meal with my husband and it was amazing. The food was terrific and mostly locally sourced. There was an amazing cocktail and beer list as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant was comfortable and chic. Our server was terrific - friendly and helpful with making the difficult decision of choosing between all of their decadent menu items. We ended up choosing the deviled egg, crispy Brussel sprouts, and bone marrow crostini appetizers. The egg was a blast of flavor and the bone marrow a unique presentation. The Brussel sprouts were my favorite but also slightly over-salted. It would have been perfect with some bread or rice but by itself it was too salty. For our entrees I chose the divers scallops, and my husband ordered the carne asada pork chop. Both entrees were perfectly cooked and juicy. I personally liked the side dishes for the pork chop better as they accentuated the main protein, whereas the mash and vegetables on my plate were a bit salty and overwhelmed the delicate taste of the scallops. Still, two excellent dishes. For dessert we shared two scoops of their house made ice cream, one scoop of Vietnamese ice coffee ice cream and one of bourbon and buttermilk ice cream. I was pleasantly surprised the find that each tasted exactly of its namesake! We had a terrific night out thanks to Tolon. We're definitely coming back for our next special occasion. read more

My wife and I checked out Tolon for the first time this week, and had a wonderful experience. The place was pretty full for a Wednesday night in Fort Wayne, so that was a good sign. We had reservations, so we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. 30,000 foot view: after one visit, this is one of my favorite places to eat in Fort Wayne. Though it's a little on the expensive side, it's not overly "fancy". There is nothing pretentious about this place. Even the food portions are generous. About the meal: Drink orders went in (I ordered a beer, and my wife asked for a Stone Fruit Mule, which was made with vodka from our favorite distiller in Columbus, OH - MiddleWest Spirits). Both were excellent, and the Oyo vodka was a nice touch. This particular week, Tolon had a pre fixed menus in addition to their "regular" menu. Regular in that it actually changes several times a year or seasonally. We started with the Duck Fat Frites, which came with an aioli dipping sauce - awesome. My wife had the salad made with brussel sprouts, which she reported as tasty. I had the kale salad, which was definitely shareable btw. It was excellent. For the main course, my wife sampled the fried chicken and waffles - the chicken was plentiful and juicy - perfectly prepared. The cornbread pecan waffles with chicken sausage gravy were very good and made fresh. I was luck enough to get a few tastes - the dish was delicious. I had the ribeye, medium. It was cooked perfectly, and came with a sort of bleu cheese sauce that added a nice compliment to ribeye'a flavor. It was $44, but certainly one of the better ribeye I've had in Fort Wayne. Besides the food, the ambiance was very nice, and Connor took very good care of us. We will return to try something different soon! We eat out a lot - and I'm not known for giving 5 star reviews. But from our visit, I can't find fault. Food: excellent. Drinks: excellent. Service: excellent. Ambiance: excellent. Price: fair for the cuisine. Until they prove me wrong, this place gets 5 stars from me, although I'll keep lobbying Yelp to add 1/2 star increments after the 3-star tier! read more

Update as of 11/10/2017 ----------------------------- I'll leave my previous post below. I think it's fair for all who've seen the review to understand the experiences then and now. First off my previous complaint about the unfriendliness - I was absolutely blown away. I'm not sure if my previous review left a mark or if they have that good of a customer record system or some crazy blood magic, but I was recognized right away. I had not been there since this review had been posted (tried a couple of times, but alas life gets in the way sometimes). The server was amazing and attentive to myself and my wife. Drinks were full, food was brought out promptly and the server's demeanor was quite pleasant and she indulged my foodie questions. I've always said the culinary team is amazing and I'm pleased to say they are. And look, Yelpers and foodies, the wife and I were in the middle of a horrible post-vacation depression. We got back from Orlando in early October. Now I know what you're thinking: stupid fatty, Disney don't got good food. You don't know what you're talking about, they do (and you pay for it, our last night's bill was over $300 for just TWO of us...think on that Yelpers but caviar and oysters and baked lobster is crazy good), and we were DEPRESSED. Fort Wayne sucks, we want to leave, it's so boring here. Tolon brought me and the wife out of that depression. It's so nice having a piece of that magical vacation in my backyard. And kudos for Tolon continually being brave enough to take what works and toss it out for a new menu on a regular basis. I'd say that's like how Louis CK redoes his comic material every year - but Louis CK isn't a good subject these days. So thank you Tolon for reinvigorating our love of Fort Wayne foodie fare! P.S. Unfortunately subsequent attempts to return left my wife and I with such poor tastes in our mouths that we canceled our reservations. The wife seems to be somewhat angry on the phone. Opening weekend she seemed very different, cordial and warm. Each time I've called and she's answered I'm only offered a 9:30PM reservation amd am told they close at 10PM. I'll stop short of saying she's rude, but she's not exactly friendly...I'm not sure why. The food is great and the restaurant seems popular. The steak is extremely expensive, but the pork chops are absolutely to die for. All in all it's not a bad place, but for the money the owner's could stand to be a little nicer.
