The chips were well salted and perfectly cooked. They were also thinly sliced & perfectly crispy. I highly recommend ordering beer cheese to dip them in - it was so delicious! The service was great. Everyone was so nice & our waiter made sure we had everything we needed. Parking was easy because there's a parking lot in the back. They had a really big menu so I'm excited to go back and try more. The cocktail list also looked good!

I don't know if the ownership has changed or if they just made some decisions to alter things, but either way it changes our opinion of the place. First and most important for us, they used to be the only place we were aware of in NC to get Gluten Free Crab Cakes which was a major reason we frequented Sammy G's. That has apparently changed and the new Gluten Free menu is basically just the meats menu which is a real shame. It looks like they have made some other small changes to the regular menu as well, none of those were all that concerning but the loss of this GF treat is a real blow for us. If you are a celiac and found reviews about the GF crab cakes, please be aware they appear to be gone now. Additionally, the prices across the menu seem to have gone up by a few dollars. When you consider that Sammy G's was never a cheap place to eat, and given the state of the economy these days, that actually does come out to a noticeable change and makes it harder to justify going. However, with the loss of the old GF options, it's unlikely we'll come back anywhere near as often as we used to.

They also bring out little yeast rolls that are pretty good and they were warm when served. We started with the thin cut onion rings. My husband said "less than spectacular," and that sums it up. Some were sliced so thin you mostly tasted breading, and they were a bit greasy. I would skip these. He ordered the fish sandwich with Brussels sprouts (premium side with a small upcharge). The sandwich was okay, nothing special. The Brussels sprouts were good, nicely cooked with solid flavor. I had the Fratellis salad with greens, cranberries, feta, mozzarella, Granny Smith apples, and candied pecans, and added sirloin for an upcharge. They forgot the steak at first, but brought it out shortly after in a separate bowl. Not a big deal. The sirloin was cooked medium as requested, a little red inside and tender enough to cut easily. It had good flavor. I chose the apple cider vinaigrette, which worked well with the salad. I also ordered the chef's selection soup, which was supposed to be lobster bisque. If there was any lobster, it was microscopic. The flavor was slightly bitter and just not good. I asked for it to be taken off the bill. Service handled everything well, including the mistake with the steak and the soup. Atmosphere is casual tavern style, relaxed and easy for a weekday lunch. Must order: Fratellis salad with sirloin and apple cider vinaigrette (yummy), Brussels sprouts Heads up: Skip the thin cut onion rings and don't expect much from the bisque. Other soups, I've had here in the past have been great though.

It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

There were few patrons when I stopped by for lunch on a Saturday, and I couldn't have asked for faster or friendlier service. I went with a chopped sandwich with coleslaw, no side, and it was prepped very quickly. You can find Lexington-style dip on the table, but other sauces are available upon request. The sandwich was a decent size, and the meat was prepared well (chopped medium and neither mushy nor dried out) if rather bland. Adding spicy barbecue sauce (a heresy for Lexington-style fans, I know) remedied that. For $6.50, I had no complaints. Affordable, unpretentious, and fast, Little Roadside Grill won't win any barbecue championships, but it's a solidly satisfying local option.

Steep it a little longer, and you've got me fully hooked.

Toms Place is a JOKE! The owner is Drunk, drug addict,and control freak! His "Manager" is beyond words she nothing but rude, pretends to be nice and as soon as she turns her head is a totally different person. I hear at least 2 complaints a week about Toms Place! They always have a hiring sign up and its because no one wants to work for people like them! Employees are always on edge and have no idea if they are going to have a job the next day because they don't know if there boss is going to come in drunk or high and fire them! I would not eat there again for anything I hope he keeps up at the rate he's going and he will drive a business his father started straight into the ground!! read more

The food was great! I have been a resident of High Point for several years and always passed this place on my way to and from work but never thought to stop. After hearing several of my friends compliment the food I had to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. The first bite told me everything I needed to know about the place, and it instantly became one of my favorites. The staff was exceptional, and very friendly. The restaurant was very neat and clean so it made me feel comfortable as I ate my food. The menu had an unbelievable amount of choices for breakfast and lunch. I couldn't be any happier that my own town has a restaurant like this. The place is simple, yet amazing. I first went with a group from work and was blown away when I tried the beef tips over rice lunch special (which was only $5.95). They offered a house salad or a choice of 2 vegetables with the special which was great. I took the 2 vegetable option and got fried okra along with creamed corn. Cream corn will never taste the same anywhere else after trying it at Tom's! I now take my family to this place at least once a week, and I make sure all of my friends know exactly where to go for their next meal! read more

Every time I visit to Tom's-- My opinion of the place gets better and better. My favorite is breakfast, of course, coffee is always on point, and the staff is friendly and inviting. The place is always clean from what I can see and my food is always great-- I love to try new dishes there. Menu varies with anything you would want to eat and the bathrooms are actually clean and kept up with, which is a big deal to me. All in all, being a High Point native, Tom's Place is definitely one of my favorite go to restaurants in town. read more

They are extremely fast when cleaning up the tables so the wait time is usually very minimal as long as you don't have a large party. The food is what you'd expect from a diner. Nothing is exceptional, but everything is consistently good. The scrambled eggs and grits are perfectly cooked, but they aren't really seasoned so you'll have to add your butter, salt, and pepper after the fact. The bacon is good, but not as crispy as I prefer it to be. The half and half tea is easily one of the best and consistent I've had in Greensboro. Quality food for a cheap price is definitely worth the 5 stars.

I had the French toast platter with the fried chicken. The French toast was pretty good but the bread used was pretty flat but it was tasty and the chicken was overcooked, there was some black spots from being fried too long. I first ate here in late 1992 or 1993, but had not visited this spot in years. This place remains pretty much unchanged, just more worn, more dated inside and out. The panel walls are decorated with pictures, sayings, a variety of bric-a- brac. Due to the acoustics this is a conversation laden environment, voices carrying a good distance, some more irritating than others. The restaurant was half filled, mostly seasoned citizens, solo and in pairs. Once seated, my waitress said - What can I get you to drink, Hun? I knew then I was in a small bit of the Southern part of restaurant heaven. I ordered the Fried Pork Chops (you get 2) with sides of Pintos ( topped with chopped, white onion, of course) and Fried Squash. My meal was soon on the table, nicely plated and very well sized. The pork chops were very large, biggest I've seen except for those at the Snappy Lunch in Mt Airy. The were just as I like them, thin, moist, bone-in, and fork tender. I especially enjoyed the very flavorful meat closest to the bone - gnawing on the bone is not only allowed but encouraged here! The Fried Squash, though not fresh, was loaded with flavor and very tender. The pintos were equally tasty, though a bit soupy, thickened some by the abundant onion. This was a typical Southern diner lunch, nothing exotic or particularly healthy, but exactly what I was looking for today. Will be back to try some more of the menu, typically Southern fare dotted with a few Greek choices (former owner was Greek), some pasta dishes, and a varied and attractive selection of burgers and sandwiches - the Texas Burger (8 oz patty on Texas Toast, dressed as you choose) is tempting. The owners are slated to open a second location in Lexington on NC Hwy 8, just off US 40, later this year, in a spot that previously housed Speedy Lohr's BBQ, among others.

When we got there, we were told it would be about a 10 minute wait to get a table, which was not a problem. Good thing we got there when we did because it started to get packed after we put our names on the waiting list. I started out with an iced caramel coffee to drink. It got the job done, and I could definitely taste the caramel syrup that they put in. For my entrée, I went with the combo plate... 2 pancakes, bacon, eggs, and hash browns. My wife likes to say that I am the pancake expert. I can be picky about how my pancakes are. I will say, these pancakes passed the test. They were very nice and fluffy. Along with the syrup, they melt in your mouth when eating. The eggs were very fluffy as well. A lot of places you go will sometimes overcook scrambled eggs, this place cooks them very well. The prices for meals here are unbeatable. I believe everything that I got in my combo plate was $10. So you get great bang for your buck when dining here. Staff was very nice and took excellent care of us.
