Went to Tomaso's on a Friday night during the holiday season with a group of three. As expected, it was busy. The restaurant is very small, with limited bar seating and booths, and there's no real place to wait inside. Everyone waiting for a table ends up awkwardly standing close together near the entrance, which wasn't very comfortable. You have to check in at the bar, and unfortunately the bartender seemed visibly annoyed whenever groups tried to add their name to the waitlist. He rolled his eyes and came across as pretty grumpy, which was a rough first impression. I honestly considered leaving, but I was really craving pizza, so we stayed. Once we got a table, we had to go back up to the bar to place our order. We got cheesy garlic bread, a deep dish pizza with three toppings, and three sodas. The sodas were poured right away, and I carried them back to the table myself. About five minutes later, the garlic bread was ready, and I went back up to grab that too. When food is ready, they yell out your order and vaguely point in your direction while saying "front" or "back," which works but isn't exactly organized. One positive surprise was the deep dish pizza. It came out much faster than expected. Most deep dish places take 45-60 minutes, but this one was ready pretty quickly. The food itself was very good and definitely the highlight of the experience. When we finished eating, I went up to get a to-go box and pay. That's when I noticed sodas are not free refills, though they're priced at $1.25 each. We ended up paying for six sodas total (three originals plus refills), which honestly wasn't bad and came out to about the same (or even less) than unlimited soda elsewhere. Still, it would've been nice to know ahead of time. I was also unsure about the tipping situation since we did all the running around ourselves: ordering, picking up food, carrying drinks, and paying. I left a 10% tip, but it felt a bit unclear what's expected in this setup. Overall, I really enjoyed the food, especially the pizza. The experience was just dampened by the lack of a waiting area and the initially grumpy bartender (though he did seem to lighten up as the night went on). Food was so/so. The ravioli itself was good, but the sauce was pretty generic, as were the meatballs. Lasagna was also ok. The garlic bread was sub rolls. However, the crusty rolls that come with the meal were amazing. The seating/ordering process was incredibly confusing. You seat yourself and order at the bar. You don't get a number or anything for your food- they just call out your order. It was fine at first, but once it got crowded, it was mass chaos. We opted to get the pizza par- baked so we could heat it back up when getting home in Milwaukee. The ingredients were fresh and the sausage had a slightly sweet and spicy bite. This has been our go-to pizza take out for years!! Located in charming downtown Cedarburg, you'll always find their take out door revolving on Friday and Saturday nights. The call ahead ordering is easy and they give accurate timing on when your order is ready. Make sure to ask for a punch card, as you'll earn a surprise food item once you complete all the punches. Note the pizza has a unique flair, as the sauce is ON TOP of the cheese, so that may throw you off upon your first order, so I always recommend ordering extra cheese! The place is very cozy and feels super local, pretty good atmosphere although a little small. I got the deep dish pizza here with pepperoni and sausage. My first note is that it is not a real deep dish pizza like Chicago style, the sauce is below the cheese and it's not very thick. The pizza was also super greasy to the point I had to blot it off with a napkin. I did like the amount of cheese and the undercarriage was a good level of crispy. However what I very much disliked about this place and the pizza was the actual crust sucked it tasted like cardboard and was inedible. I also would never come back because they do not have their own pizza oven they just cook it on a conveyor belt. Some of my favorite pizza in the Milwaukee area! This place has a lot of character and makes amazing pizza. I've only ever gotten take out. The order is usually ready anywhere between 20-50 minutes depending on weekday vs weekend. Our go-to order is thin pepperoni pizza and deep dish veggie. All of their ingredients are so good. The pepperoni is crispy and delicious. Their crust doesn't have a ton of flavor to it but it goes well with everything else and is perfectly cooked. Pick-up is easy. They have a door to the sitdown restaurant and then a door for pick up only which is a great idea and keeps it quick and easy. Must try! read more

We absolutely LOVE Tomaso's in Cedarburg. They have my absolute FAVORITE pizza - perfectly crisp thin crust with the perfect proportion of cheese, sauce, and toppings. Their pizza is wonderfully flavorful and I love that the sauce is on top of the cheese. Tomaso's in Cedarburg has a pretty extensive menu. As much as I would like to try other items on their menu when their pizza is your favorite you eat the pizza. We are also partial to their garlic bread and pickle fries; they are very delicious! Tomaso's is a table seating (seat yourself), order at the bar, and pick up your food at the bar establishment. Service is quick. The restaurant is clean. Prices are reasonable. Tomasos in Cedarburg has been a staple in this historic German town for decades. The pizza recipe hasn't changed, and either has the inside, but maybe a few updates. This restaurant is hands down our favorite pizza pit. They always carry good seasonal German beer on tap, give friendly service, along with delicious fresh food. A few tips, get here early as there is not a lot of seating. Also, YES, there is cheese on the pizza it is under the sauce. We get the large Italian sausage, and a large comes with a free 10 inch pizza, perfect for kids. I usually order mushrooms and as a topping, and they are fresh, not canned. When we plan activities in Cedarburg, we always make a stop here. We have never been let down. read more

I've been hearing about this place for so many years thought I'd check it out. Interesting that it's self serve at the bar to order and pick up your own food and bring it to your table. I guess that alleviates paying servers and leaving tips? The pizza was hot and fresh but I felt the toppings were pretty skimpy. Especially for the price. We ordered ham and pineapple and I don't recall getting more than one or two pieces of pineapple and the four pieces that I consumed. A few years ago, Tomaso's is the first place I ever had a pizza where the sauce was place over the cheese, and I was a fan! I found myself in Cedarburg with family during the holidays and we decided to have dinner here. It's a small place and every table was full at 5:00, but a couple of tables were finishing up, so it seemed we wouldn't wait long. I walked up to the bar to "check in" and one of the bartenders pointed me to a booth in a corner that was in the process of being bussed. She told me to review the menu and place the order at the bar. I've dined at enough places where I've learned there are many ways to provide a service, some are better than others. While I thought this method was odd, I also thought it was cool and part of the experience of Tomaso's. I placed the order, they called out the food items as they were ready and pointed to our booth. I don't know why they don't add a name to the ticket, but again this works for them and we got the food we ordered without waiting too long. Droves of people walked in shortly after we were seated. Some went across the hallway for carry-out and some came in the bar for dining in. I walked up to the bar after we finished to pay the bill, and they quickly started bussing my table. The pizza and garlic bread we ordered were excellent, and we didn't wait long. I don't need someone to come to my table to take my order and bring me food. I just need my order to be correct, the food to taste good, and my table to be cleaned before I'm seated. All of those boxes were checked. I will definitely dine here again! read more

Hands down, my favorite pizza place! I could almost east this every day if my husband would let me! Crispy thin crust - super tasty sauce and always perfect sized toppings! We live about 15 minutes north of Tomaso's and the pizza is ALWAYS hot by the time we get home! Perfect for take out! Hubby and I have been wanting to check this place out for a while - we always casually stroll by when in Cedarburg, but finally decided to pop in. It was a little confusing at first, since the restaurant/bar was pretty full, we didn't know if we could take a table or had to wait for a host to seat us. Finally saw a busboy and asked him what we needed to do to get seated. He said we would order at the bar and take any table. Once your food is ready, the bartender will shout out your order. This complicates getting refills or extras as you are getting table service. I ordered a meatball sub and it came with a side of onion rings. HUGE portions for the price. I definitely had enough for a second meal. It was really good - big meatballs topped with peppers and cheese. The onion rings were shoestring style and served with a side of ranch. I ordered an appetizer of fried vegetables - it was a mixture of mushroom, cauliflower, zucchini and eggplant. Nothing out of the ordinary, but did love the marinara it was served with. What I was really impressed with was the pepperoni deep dish pizza! The sauce was full of flavor and the pepperoni was baked under the cheese which I always love because the grease blends with the sauce. The crust was nice and doughy too. My first experience here. Pizza was unique with the cheese in the bottom. The crust lacked a corn meal or flour to the bottom of the pizza that adds flavor to it. Otherwise pizza tasted good. Good sauce flavor. As many reviews say service is their biggest opportunity in this place. Obviously poorly ran when it takes 35 mins to get something with an oven that takes 6 mins to cook. Walked in for my pickup and the pizza was sitting on top of a wall ready to be loaded in the oven. Only one of the two ovens being used. Not sure who manages this place but they must not have much pizza shop experience. Sad to see if you only knew the potential you have and it's being wasted by not properly running the shop. Hopefully they hired a server for the dine in area. Sad to see so many reviews for the seat your self and serve your self. read more

Pizza was dry and crust tasted like flour. Woman behind the bar was on FaceTime talking away in front of customers with out even greeting anyone. No personality. Pizza 6.6 experience 4.5. Staff seemed nice but possible owner didn't seem interested in her customers. Also you have to serve yourself they just set things on the bar and you fetch it. We cleared our own table. Not even sure why we didn't get a tip for our hard work. Not asked if we needed anything else? Waters were empty. She was writing checks for bills instead of helping. Wouldn't return. read more

New to this corner of the state -- and newly retired, and eager to enjoy a variety of restaurants -- we spotted Tomaso's (and made a mental note) when I visited Cedarburg for the first time a few weeks ago, and strolled the lovely, long, inviting and calming Washington Avenue. Finally, two nights ago, it was the first stop of a perfect evening. (Afterwards, walked to the great old restored Rivoli Theater, to see "Oppenheimer" -- at a great price, on a sufficiently big screen, with great sound.) Happy, chatty people throughout the place. Capable, friendly barmaid (who also takes the orders and hands off the items when ready.) The small dinner salad -- nothing to write home about, but not objectionable in any way -- arrived very quickly. The small, thin crust pepperoni and artichoke pizza then followed, surprisingly soon (given that the place was pretty busy, especially for a Thursday). Because of the positive vibes in the place, they were already well on their way to 3 or 4 stars. The pie was the final boost, to 5 stars. A great, crispy, truly thin crust that REMAINED crispy (a feat that not even the vaunted Zaffiro's, in Milwaukee -- which I love -- can achieve with its fabulous thin crust). Honestly, the sauce struck me as, maybe, a little on the sour side, and maybe hinting just a bit of something right out of a can. Nevertheless, I applaud the "toppings on top" approach (especially with pepperoni, which I believe cannot truly shine unless exposed directly to the oven heat), and the pie was, overall, quite delicious. Will return to try the meatball bomber. (Completely gratuitous aside): On one wall is a sign for Ale Asylum. Heck, an ale asylum is the place I go to, when I want both a bottle in front of me AND a frontal lobotomy. read more

This is by far the best pizza! You must order the deep dish. Even people that typically do not like deep dish love this one! The crust tastes like my grandma's beer bread she used to make. The ingredients are fresh and they are not stingy with their toppings. I even had my friend's mom (from Italy) dine with me there and she said it was exceptionally good. She said the sausage is excellent. It's a small, cozy place. A great place to dine with friends. The bartenders are always friendly. (You order at the bar and they tell you when your order is up.) We were in Cedarburg on Saturday to help a friend with a technical issue. When we were done we decided to get some pizza. After a quick look at the Yelp app we decided to try Tomaso's. This place reminds me of a spot you'd find in Door County. The place was all around very clean. You take a seat at a table or booth (or the bar) and after deciding what you'd like you take your order to the bartender. It's a little bit of a strange set up but it works very well. They call your name when the order is ready. A busser will pick up the dishes. We ordered an individual pan pizza, an individual thin crust pizza and a cheeseburger. All were very good but the thin crust pepperoni pizza was fantastic. read more

Over many years I have been to Tomaso's and the pizza was always great. I hadn't been there in a few years and something had definitely changed! We ordered a small cheese and sausage and I can honestly say it was one of the worst pizzas I've ever had! I'm pretty sure the crust was bought premade. They threw so cheese on there, mostly in the center and nothing along the outside. The sauce was something out of a can! Terrible! Sausage was over cooked and the crust was chewy, not crispy! Tomaso's is known for their cracker style crust and for putting the cheese UNDER the sauce. They claim this helps keep the crust firm and crisp. The crust is firm and crisp as advertised, but there are many places that have thin crisp crust without putting the cheese down first. Regardless the pizza was very good and the cheese first style didn't detract in any way from the rest of the pizza. As I mentioned, the crust was crisp, but not dry or hard. There were a good amount of toppings and the sauce was tasty. Overall, I thought the pizza was pretty good and worth a try. Being from out of town and having never ordering from this pizza place before, I ordered two pizzas, both wit extra sauce. Apparently this restaurant puts the cheese on the bottom and sauce on top. Nobody explained this to me, so this is how the pizzas came. Looked like sauce was literally "dumped" on top of the crust. When I messaged the business to see if this was normal for them, was told it was my fault because I didn't ask, and nobody offered to make my order right.
