We had such a fantastic experience at Tommy's Chophouse! Everything we ordered was exceptional, but the lasagna was a real standout. It was completely unlike any lasagna I've had before, beautifully presented in an almost deconstructed, unexpected form and absolutely delicious. The strip steak and asparagus were excellent as well. And then the crème brûlée! Such a creative take on a classic, with candied nuts and fruit that made it genuinely memorable. I've been fortunate to dine at many high-end restaurants in NYC and across Europe, and it's rare that a dessert surprises me like this one did. A special shoutout to our server, Darihana, who made the whole experience even better. She was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel incredibly well taken care of throughout the evening. After stalking Tommy's Instagram for the past two weeks waiting for the opening day announcement, we were so excited to finally make it there on opening night. We grabbed seats at the bar, and Ryan, Guy, and Lacey took great care of us all night. Opening night is controlled chaos, but Ryan was cool as a cucumber behind the bar, effortlessly keeping everything moving while still making time to chat with guests. The service was fantastic from start to finish. We also had a great conversation with John, the sommelier. We're big Sea Smoke fans, but this was our first time seeing Botella on a wine list. It's made for easy drinking and was a great recommendation. We also enjoyed a glass of Daou Cabernet with our ribeye. For cocktails, we ordered two espresso martinis, the 7th Ave Margarita (though as a tequila connoisseur, I still think Tommy's Margarita was the obvious name ), and the Steakhouse Reserve. Every cocktail was a classic, perfectly executed. We sampled quite a bit of the menu. The deviled eggs were delicious, and the ceviche was another favorite. We ended up making friends with the people sitting on either side of us at the bar and traded bites of the crab beignets and beef carpaccio, which made for a fun experience. For our entrée, we ordered the ribeye with the Lavish Chef's Set featuring bordelaise, bone marrow, and pickled roasted mushrooms. We also shared the Robuchon mashed potatoes, which were unbelievably smooth and velvety. Even though we were completely stuffed, we couldn't leave without trying dessert. The guava crème brûlée was interesting, but the peanuts made it a little too salty for my taste, so I probably wouldn't order it again. The chocolate bread pudding, however, was outstanding. It ate like a warm, fudgy brownie. My only suggestion would be a little more ice cream. One of my favorite parts of the evening was that we never felt rushed. Everyone we met was genuinely friendly. We had the chance to meet the general manager, and the owner even gave us a tour of the vault, which was such a cool touch on opening night. We can't wait to come back! One quick tip: there's no valet. We parked in the lot directly behind the restaurant, and it was an easy walk. read more

Im not sure if you can valet but parking on the street can take a moment. I parked in a lot two blocks down and walked on cobblestone in heels so pick your poison. Some people like to take a stroll on the strip but I'm good on the characters that frequent ybor on a Friday night. The place is cute. The bar chairs are so nice that we skipped our table reservation and just continued to order our meal at the bar since the service and hospitality were great. Here's what I want to say. For me this is a beautiful place to grab a drink and meet up with people or go on a date. While the food was fine, nothing really stood out. Management came by and said hello and everyone was lovely, but maybe I'd go back and try an actual steak or some of the seafood. But as an overall experience, it was lovely. I read a few of the non-fine-star reviews and they mentioned some great steak houses in Tampa and I get it, if you have great places already, you wanna find that thing that draws you into Tommy's and I don't know what that is yet. I also don't know if I'm going back to find out simply because there are other places that do have really great menus where I can dine with a friend for around $200. It's just hard because I'm not able to spend on dinners like this often and it's gotta be worth it. I also noticed people mention dress code and while one is not enforced and I got dressed up to come in, people were there in shorts and flip flops and jeans and tshirts, which Floridians may really love, as it's a really casual place. My favorite thing was the margarita, second was the chicken. With it being in ybor, you can really make a night of it. Stop somewhere grab a drink, go to Tommy's for dinner and more drinks, leave after, take a walk on the strip and grab some ice cream for dessert. It's a good night. Three stars are really for the food for the value. Service was really great! read more

We visited Tommy's recently for dinner after attending an early evening event. Tommy's has been a long time coming in Ybor so we were excited to give it a whirl. The decor is lovely, on the darker side, but lovely none the less. A bit rustic sheek- not what I would cornsider a "new" look amongst restaurants but very upper scale Ybor. We were greeted by our server, who was a genuinely nice but overly familiar young man. I feel as though they are going for an upper scale vibe but that comes with a variety of expectations itself. First, the dress code which seems to be a thing of the past these days especially in FL. Want to create that vibe- require that your clientele add to it via their attire. Secondly, the servers attitudes and personalities shouldn't be "the guy or gal next to you in a bar" kinda feel. Our server was very "familiar" and super laid back to the point that at any time I thought he may just pull up a chair and join us. We ordered cocktails and here is where things immediately started off on the wrong foot. We waited and waited and waited and waited. The GM came by to check on us and asked how we were, and we told her that we had neither seen our drinks or the server. Not once did he come by to tell us that the bar was slow, that our drinks would be to the table soon- nothing. After the GM made a pit stop with us, the drinks arrived a few min later. Setting the tone for the evening is super important and thus, we were already wondering how it would go. I am not going into every menu item but I will sum it up here. Tommy's is just getting off the ground and trying to find their footing, but the food needs to be right and fabulous right out of the gate. Timing, ambiance and such can be adjusted- a chef is a chef is a chef. If it doesn't work ya find someone new. When a server recommends a dish as a favorite (not certain how favorites have already become relevant being open for such a short period of time but ok) you expect a "wow". Like the fondant potatoes as an example. Can't for the life of me figure out what made them so special. Not a thing- truly. They were, well, I can't quite describe it except to say- not much flavor. The food over all was - ok- not fabulous, not memorable but "ok". There are better offerings at other restaurants around town for a pork chop and steak. The deviled eggs were really good, but locally J. Alexander's wins that prize. The steaks ( one of our guests had one) was uninspiring. Nothing really hit the ball out of the ballpark. When it comes to deserts sometimes less is more or- more is more like having an actual full scoop of vanilla ice cream to cut a very rich and dense chocolate cake-ish desert (I cannot remember the name) served with a teaspoon of ice cream. Come on! Really? The desert offerings were chef's concoctions that weren't memorable other than to say- sometimes sticking with the basics is better than coming up with something that misses and misses badly. Cocktails were fine, expensive, but fine. Would I return? Likely not and here is why. I want an establishment to woo me and want me to return by way of the food, the service, the ambiance - all of it. I want to be enticed to try new things because what I ordered the first time inspired my next visit. I am certain that Tommy's will land with many folks. I would like to think that I have a rather sophisticated and discerning palate. I know an amazing steak when I eat it and I know a fabulous cocktail when I drink it. I know stellar service when I receive it. Tommy's should really pay close attention to their clientele and their experiences over the next several months to assure longevity. Tommy's Chophouse officially opened to the public on Friday, July 31st. I was fortunate enough to score a reservation for day #2. I made a reservation on Resy for 8pm. I have walked by this place so many times in Ybor, it seemed like for years, but it was forever under construction. When first walking in I thought the restaurant was quite pretty and they spent a lot of time on fine tuning the details. I like how there is a massive bar to the left when you walk in with lots of seats. Then the dining room is split on the left with bar seating at high top boots, and then low top more restaurant style seating to the right. I checked in and the hostess attempted to sit me like 1 foot from a table with a group of 4 next to us. I was like oh, no this isn't going to work for us. Half the restaurant was empty and you want me to sit a foot from 4 people. I don't think so. We were reseated in the bar at a booth that would typically be for 6 people, but we got it just for the two of us. My first reaction to the menu was, hmmm there aren't a lot of food choices on here. We of course wanted to start with some cocktails so I started with a $14.43 Steakhouse Martini (Dirty Martini). It was fine, pretty good, not on the level of Casa Santo Stefano down the street, Malio's, or Cooper's Hawk, but solid. My date had the $14.43 Espresso Martini. Holy smokes this was like chugging espresso. I'm not sure how much alcohol was in this drink, but it'll certainly wake you up. For an appetizer we got the $14.43 Deviled Eggs. Amongst all food and drink options, this was the best item of the night. I thought it was pretty good, but most steakhouses do make a better one. The chef came by our table to tell us that this dish is the most popular item at their South Carolina steakhouse. I can see why, but I've had better ones. My date also got the $18.56 Ceviche. I don't really like ceviche, but it was spicy. For the next round of drinks, we tried a $14.43 Smoked Salt Paloma. This was literally like chugging grapefruit. I didn't notice any alcohol as the grapefruit was so strong. My date got the $14.43 7th Ave Margarita. She loved it and rated it as the best drink of the night. For the main course, I ordered the $53.61 8oz Prime Filet. I requested medium. When the server brought it out she asked me to cut it to check and make sure it was made to my liking. Uh oh, I cut into it and it was rare, borderline raw. I was like, oh no, definitely send this back and cook it longer. The server brought the steak back a 2nd time and this time I cut into it and it was medium rare. I didn't want to send it back a 3rd time I just told them this was fine. Now, the actual steak was super plain. Very disappointing. It wasn't hard or chewy or bad, but where was the salt, rubs, seasoning, or anything? I was pretty disappointed. As a side, I got the $6.19 mushrooms. For me, this was the 2nd best item of the night. My date got the $11.34 crab soup. This was her favorite item of the night. She ate it in about 2.52 seconds. I also tried a $18.56 Southern Gentlemen. It was a solid old fashioned. For dessert, we had the $14.43 bread pudding. It was crazy rich in chocolate. It was alright. I wouldn't get it again. I had high hopes for this place. I wish they'd enforce a dress code and ban t shirts, and non steakhouse attire. I wonder what clientele will eventually settle on making this their go to spot. Ybor can be super hit or miss. The server told me they haven't finalized a happy hour menu yet, but when the do, I might check this spot out again. I don't think I'd go with a full dining room experience ever again though. read more

Vibes were rustic but classy - perfect decor & space. All the food is locally & credibly sourced. We were blown away since they are so new. What we ordered: - crab beignets - Florida red snapper - signature wagyu - 9 oz SRF Picanha w/ robuchon mashed potato, asparagus, bernaise, & red wine glace - chocolate bread pudding (made with La Segunda bread) We ordered extremely well. Our server Jared was also the bartender but was fantastic and took great care of us. He made great recommendations and the food was amazing. I think everything was priced well. We dropped into Tommy's Chophouse, Ybor City's newest cuisine on 7th Ave. A really nice vibe, with a lively crowd, and packed bar. We sat at a tabletop and the bartender was our server. He was busy as heck but was most attentive to our needs and had nice support from others on the floor. Felt like a nice culture where the team looked out for another, the key to great service. The food was excellent, came out hot, and much of the food is locally sourced. We split the Waygu Hangar Steak which we had never had before. It was tasty, cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. Overall, Tommy's Chophouse is a great addition to an area needing a higher end eatery. Makes Ybor more diverse in your culinary choices which is nice. Definitely recommend Tommy's!! read more

Hands down one of the best experiences I've had out in a long time. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They showcased an impressive amount of knowledge not only on the food but where items are locally sourced. We had such an amazing experience tonight at Tommy's Chophouse! We were celebrating a special occasion, and from the moment we arrived, they made us feel so welcomed and special. Everything we ordered was absolutely incredible (ribeye, bone marrow, broccolini, and mashed potatoes). The owner was also walking around the restaurant and stopped by our table while we were looking over the menu. He was so helpful with our selections and incredibly accommodating, which made the experience feel even more personal.
