AMAZING! We were seated quickly arrived at 5pm Sunday. The server was quick and kind. Food was TO DIE FOR. Some of the best Chinese I've ever had. Highly recommend the green beans. I don't tolerate spice well but nothing was too spicy just flavorful. It's a fast paced hole in the wall so be prepared to be a little cramped but it's worth it. I haven't been here in over 5 years and it was nice to go today. I used to get takeout here when I lived in Monterey and it's probably the best Chinese restaurant in the area. It's a great value for Carmel and the lunch special is $10. You get soup, noodles, fried rice and a choice of entree. I had sweet and sour pork. It's popular with the locals and can get busy. Good choice for a Chinese restaurant in Carmel and also a more affordable option in expensive Carmel that can be hit or miss with tourist places. read more

So glad we found this place! We had just finished doing the 17 mile drive in Carmel and grew an appetite. We had no plans on what to have for dinner that night and we came across Tommy's Wok and so glad we did! The service was exceptional and the food was nothing short of amazing. They also offer complimentary tea! The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because there was an automatic 18% tip on parties 2 or more..however the service was quick and efficient. Good grief. This used to be a premiere Chinese eatery. We just ordered out for the first time in years. What a disappointment. It hasn't gone downhill - it has dug itself a hole and jumped in. Bland, pedestrian. No better than some hole in the wall. Diners should have higher expectations. Carmel should demand more. (Our scallops in garlic sauce had small pieces of defrosted scallops in a bland sauce. No garlic zing. Lots of water chestnuts and green peppers though, but that's not what we paid for). read more

We ordered take out and everything was still pretty good. For Chinese food in Carmel, this place is pretty decent. It's a small shop tucked away between other restaurants on one street, and at the end of the Wells Fargo parking lot from the other street. The staff was really nice & friendly. Orange Chicken: *4/5*: Really saucy and delicious. Could've been a little crispier but that's because we did take out, I imagine if we ate it there, it'd be fried well. The sauce is more savory than sweet but still good and a good taste of orange zestiness. Honey Walnut Shrimp: *4/5*: The shrimp was really big and fried well. Classic dish and tastes as how you'd expect. Green Beans: *5/5*: Perfectly wilted yet crunchy and super saucy Sizzling Rice Soup: *5/5*: Love the assortment of veggies in the soup. Personally I would have given 4.5 but since can't do half stars I debated between 4 and 5. I obviously decided on 5 due to the following. This restaurant is in downtown Carmel. It is pretty difficult to find any meal inexpensive here let alone one that is delicious and a good size. Since it's downtown Carmel parking is hard to find. But that's anyplace here. The staff were busy but still attentive and nice. The food was maybe the best Chinese I've had. The wife stated she has had better before but was up there in her top 3. The portion size was also very generous. All this for less then Panda Express. This is why 5 stars. I highly recommend this place and will come here for all my Chinese food from now on. Insider tip they have two different menus. They have there one with combos and then their Chinese menu. They only hand those out to Chinese customers unless you ask. Was visiting and craving Chinese and this was one of the worst places ive ever tried. Didn't really taste like Chinese - The types of ppl frequenting here are weirdo rude and snobby white folks and the food is made to cater to them specifically just like every other place around here. My brother and I were made to feel uncomfortable by a group of these white men while we were waiting outside. Food wise Everything was bland and tasted the same. We had driven 10.5 hours to get to Carmel and needless to say, we were HUNGRY! My mom was insistent on having a rice dish. We found Tommy's Wok on yelp and because it had good reviews, we decided to try it out. It was a little chaotic at first because they were super busy and it wasn't clear that we had to put our name on a paper list held by a clipboard. But once we figured that out, we stood to wait outside for what we thought would be a long time but surprisingly, we got seated pretty fast. Our first impression of the servers was that they weren't friendly and maybe even a little edgy. But they were simply being efficient. We never had to ask for water refills, ordering our meals was very easy and the food came out fast! Plus it was DELICIOUS! If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing meal, I wouldn't recommend this place necessarily. It's casual and loud. But it's also fun and fast. Now that I know what to expect, I would go back, for sure! read more

My parents love coming to Tommy's when they visit Carmel, so when they heard we would be in town they told us it was a must!! I am glad we did, the food tasted fresh and came out quickly. It is a small shop with about 7-8 tables inside and a couple along the outside of the window. We started with the fried prawns and both the batter and the prawn were delicious and fresh! I ordered Tommy's combo fried rice with shrimp and chicken only; the rice wasn't dry like some places and the shrimp was not over cooked. Very good!! I've only had Tommy's a few times but 2x I have waited over 45 minutes past the pick-up time for my food to be ready. On the most recent visit, there was a group of 15-20 people waiting outside in the rain for their food and all orders were 45+ minutes late. Just genuinely unacceptable to have this happen so frequently. Wish they'd figure out how to handle orders more effectively and I'd stop by more. read more

Ordered take out and the food was good, but they forgot to give us a beef dish we had ordered and payed for...unfortunately the boxes were not clearly marked and although containers were counted, it was just another side of rice. It was extremely hard to find too! Signage was not clear. read more

We were visiting this place and got take out. The gentleman helping me was extremely rushed which is why I asked him to verify my items before I left. He verified everything is correct. Once we got back to the hotel, I realized he gave me an entirely wrong order. Instead of chicken and beef, he gave shrimp and lamb. Among other things that were missing. I called several times for them to refund me and even showed them a picture of what they gave me which didn't match my order. Please stay away from this place. Not only are they shady as heck but it is also filthy. Just take a peak around the wall where the kitchen is. So dirty, unsanitary, frozen noodles in bulk in dirty oil. A party of our group got sick after just having the chow mein. I'm not worried about them refunding because I can easily dispute this with my credit card. NB Google Maps navigation (mis)leads you several blocks down to Seventh down the hill, in the village darkness at night because "between Ocean and Seventh". Huge waste of time and no fault of Tommy's! Note well fans: go to the Wells Fargo and you have reached your destination. Not much ambiance in simple dining room, just solid American Chinese food. Mushu pancakes are proper, wok hei on the mushu filling. I was there for take out, but I would have enjoyed eating there in house. read more

This Chinese restaurant is very difficult to find, but well worth the effort. The back entrance is from the Well's Fargo parking lot. The front entrance is through a tiny courtyard, called Redwood Court, across the street from the Plaza. You can see their sign at the very back of the courtyard, in my photo. You need to find a place to park on the street, or use the Plaza parking for $7 an hour. The food is yummy and reasonably priced. Placed an order to go at 6pm, told not to pick up until 7pm. Arrive at 6:55 and find a line of 20 people in front of me in the "pick-up line". Two persons ahead said their time was 6:45. Waited 30 min and only 4 had been served. I understand a reasonable delay on a busy night, but to have waited an hour and a half and still had 16 people in front, this is a sign of disrespect - no respect for my time and needs, none returned. As a local I will take my business elsewhere. Our Christmas Dinner was not what we had hoped for, but at least the family is together. read more

We generally avoid Chinese food in touristy spots for obvious reasons, but decided to support Asian restaurants during this COVID crisis. Tommy served solid Americanized Chinese food but with a pleasant surprising twist. Thanks to fellow yelpers we went straight for the popular dishes: house FR, rainbow seafood chowder & spicy eggplants. Fried rice had good flavors, loaded with chicken & shrimps. Its a bit more "wet" than a classic chinese FR, but its also less greasy. The shrimp was not the freshest so it won't pop in your mouth, nor was it too mooshy. The seafood chowder had great flavors & texture, albeit a bit salty. One of the yelpers suggested Tommy's eggplant was better than any in the bay area, i agree!! There I said it. If my eyes were closed i could have swear it was fried tofu: slightly crispy skin & soft rich interior, amazing texture & good flavors. I was not sure about the levels of salt or MSG, but we were moderately thirsty afterwards. For a touristy spot like Carmel, I think Tommy's wok served solid good at reasonable price by Carmel standards. read more

We stumbled upon this cute little family owned restaurant unexpectedly, while we were on the way to Morro bay. It was a pleasant surprise, in a cute alley way, European kind of decor on the outside. We got two lunch specials - vegetarian and chicken with comes with a soup, a generous portion of chow mein/fried rice and chicken/vegetarian entree. Good value for the money spent. It was better than what we expected. Food was fresh, hot and tasty. Would definitely stop by again if we are in the area. read more
