    Beef Brisket Sandwich - Jumbo
    Jennifer W.

I'm rarely in Memphis and when I'm here, it's because I'm on my way to Mississippi. One of the things I like is checking restaurants off my list. Even though I'd eaten lunch elsewhere, I just had to get a sandwich here also. I was undecided between the pulled pork and brisket so asked the young lady who works there her preference, and she said she does not eat pork. (What?!?) Shouldn't that be a requirement to work at a BBQ restaurant? Hmm...anyway....I chose the brisket sandwich which she and someone else recommended. Wait...no, I chose the jumbo brisket sandwich and man wasn't it JUMBO. That was a lot of meat. It was good and cooked perfectly, but I did expect the meat to be more flavorful. I really like the sauce though. Perhaps, I'll try Tom's again and get the rib tips. This visit is 3.5 stars though.

Out of over 35 rib joints we tried on our crawl this place ranked number 1 in my eyes and a few others from the group. We tried the meat ribs. Smoked for almost 18 hours and fall off the bone delicious. The pork ribs again fell right off the bone. We had the bologna sandwich. Very simple, but tasty as well. The shredded brisket was tender, juicy and flavorful. The banana pudding was one of the lightest we had. Three cookies on top and a few bananas inside. Flavorful pudding. More bananas inside would have been nice. The owners were super friendly and even took a photo with the group. We will definitely return here on our next trip to Memphis.

Had to do a day trip to Memphis over the weekend and as always, no trip to Memphis is complete without BBQ. Rather than going to one of the more tourist centered BBQ places, I decided to venture out and find where the locals ate. This is how I ended up at Tom's. To level your expectations, this is hole in the wall restaurant. You will be eating BBQ in a room without AC and cleaning up after yourself. The staff will "lovingly" yell at you for your order number when it's ready for pick-up. You will also eat the BEST BBQ in your life. I got the rip tibs platter. The rib tips were absolutely incredible with a charred, spice outside and tangy bbq sauce. The coleslaw and potato salad were also incredible additions with each one having a unique, homemade taste. The whole plate with a drink cost me $15, which was also an incredible deal. This trip made me fall in love with Tom's. I will be back during my next Memphis trip!

Was thrilled to eat here as the beef and chicken were rumored to be halal and this is an established place for memphis bbq. Wasted $30 in ubers to come here and find it CLOSED during business hours.

Literally the BEST BBQ I had while visiting Memphis. I ate there 2 days in a row it was THAT good. Day 1 we had their pulled pork and chopped chicken catered for a work event. Too bad I didn't snap photo of it then. The Chopped Chicken was AMAZING. I liked it better than the pulled pork! So moist and perfectly seasoned. I could eat it all day! 2nd day I drove there for lunch. Service was out of this world. I wanted to try everything basically but would have to order quantities that were available. The workers looked at me like GURL THAT NOT ON THE MENU. But Tom, sweet sweet Tom...my Meat Angel stepped in and and HOOKED IT UP!!! Rib Tips, fried Bologna, Turkey Leg, and more pulled pork. I think I died and went to heaven. Rib tips and turkey leg were my favorite (besides the chopped chicken). That dry rub on the rib tips?! Amazing. Turkey leg? Awesome smoke flavor and fell right of the gd bone. Ambience is truly authentic, lots of open seating, very clean. Save yourself the other recommendations and just eat here every single day.

Ok, so I was leaving Memphis and my flight was showing 90 minute delay... i didn't want to travel too far (since I was already near the airport)... I began scouring Yelp. I came across a bunch of different places with varying reviews. I finally settled on Tom's Barbeque. The tldr is I'm so glad to have enjoyed my meal here. It's in what seemed to be a local working class neighborhood. I'll be honest, as I was driving there I second guessed where I was going. I pulled up to the parking lot and sat there a couple minutes further contemplating if it was a good idea. I don't know the area, maybe I was just overthinking it and there was no reason to be apprehensive(?) I eventually went in and it's a cool little building. I was warmly greeted and had a nice brief chat with the folks behind the counter. I didn't see exactly what I was looking for on the menu...so I finally just asked him for what I wanted to see if it was an option. He said no problem and got me hooked up. I have to say, it was the best pulled pork I've ever had. The combination of flavor and texture was out of this world. I seek out barbecue places all across the country, and I can definitely say this was the best pulled pork I've had. I got a side of mac & cheese, which by appearance I didn't think I would love. It looked a little little bit like nacho cheese sauce... but much like this place, don't judge a book by its cover and take a bite. The mac & cheese was awesome. When I was done eating, I had the chance to chat with them for a few more minutes. Awesome folks, very welcoming and a pleasure to meet them. Next time I'm in town, I will certainly go back. The quality of food here was far better than any of the touristy, bougie barbecue places I've been in Memphis. As a side note incase anyone is bored and still reading this... just because your flight shows delayed by 90 mins doesn't mean it will stay that way. As I was pulling up to the airport, I got a notification it was only going to be a 15 minute delay (not 90 like the prior notification said). My first reaction was UPSET, like darn, I'm gonna miss this flight. My next thought was "oh well, I already know that Tom's is open tomorrow :) " ended up making the flight, but if I hadn't, I would've certainly come back for another awesome meal the next day!

Disclaimer: I am not a pork lover. since moving to Memphis... all I come across is bbq and fried chicken (no shade). Also, I must admit- I haven't been wowed by bbq here. Anywho.... I have a weird obsession with the gristle on certain types of ribs.... So, I was advised to try some rib tips. Since this restaurant had so many good reviews I decided to give them a try. I'm glad it did. The gristle (don't judge me) on the tips were so tasty and super crunchy! My only complaint is I felt I had more bone than tips (GRISTLE). I would definitely recommend this place and I will be back to try something different or maybe for more rib tips...

We chose this place after watching Season 3 Episode 9 of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. It was a tough decision because all of the places looked great. I'm glad we chose Tom's. I dont know why but the bologna was my favorite. The owner was there and it was really neat meeting him after watching the episode 3-4 times. He let us try the Rib Tips too. The experience was all around really great. Another place that Guy Fieri recommended and it didn't let us down !

Heard about this spot from the Food Network so we had to stop while on our road trip to New Orleans. I order almost one of everything! Ribs Tips favor was very good but were very meaty. Smoked sausage is pretty good but salty. St Louis ribs were good and real seasoned Bologna sandwich was a NO GO. Baked beans were not good as well. Which goes for all the side...not good at all. Fried Catfish was VERY greasy but it was good. Brisket was extremely good. I had the nachos with brisket and it was the best thing I order by far. The volcano fries were a hit also! With pulled pork and brisket. Separately BBQ sauce the one bright spot. Sauce was very good Staff was friendly. There is ABSOLUTELY NO social distance at all. No mask required so that was a minus. Probably wouldn't revisit

Picture of the counter areas that you order the Nothing fancy about the setup. Just good food.

I ordered wings and two dry slabs of ribs. When my family and I finally decided to eat the ribs on Monday, they were disgusting. They had seasoning caked all on them, and they were overly salty. We wiped off the caked-on seasoning and tried to eat around the saltiness. I was praying the 2nd slab was not the same. When I opened them on 5/27 to see, they were the same. I was trying to avoid calling because I just didn't feel like being bothered. But I called. I left a message for the manager to return my call that morning because "he is in the middle of an interview." So I called back that afternoon and was transferred to Ethan. I explained the situation to him. As I was speaking, he kept making the noise un-huh. So, I stopped talking and asked him what it meant aside from it just being rude as hell. He went on to explain that they missed a step and did not rub in the seasoning and shake it off. I don't care. It's an internal quality issue that should be handled with the prep and cook staff. Not me. He asked if I had my receipt and, in a tone that suggested he was doing me a favor, advised me that he would replace the slab. No apologies for the inconvenience or anything.   After my long workday, I went all the way downtown to get the slab replaced. In person, Ethan is just as rude. I asked if he was going to replace both slabs. He could clearly see the quality was trash. He said no and that he would only replace one. Then went on to offer me sides and a slice of cake. No, thank you. I can afford sides and cake just like I did those trash slabs of ribs. Those slabs of ribs cost $62.40 before taxes. With taxes probably being another 5 or 6 dollars. Your mistakes and poor quality should not cost me. He had a young lady bring the replacement slab back out to me. She didn't say thank you or anything. One thing I know is that a white man or woman patronizing your business would not have been treated this way. As a result, moving forward I will spend my Black woman dollars elsewhere on barbeque and smoked chicken wings. Also, I removed you all from my company's approved catering list where we spend a nice amount with you all yearly. Tell Ethan, thanks for helping me see the light and not spend money where I'm not respected and where my customer experience isn't valued.

My server Georgia was nice and patient with me as I couldn't really decide what to order. I loved the live blues band. They sounded great! It was walking distance to my hotel and was on Beale street where all the restaurant and bars are located. I thought pricing was fair and portions were definitely generous. I ordered Mac n cheese kids meal and a Side of coleslaw and a piece of catfish. I didn't want the full platter as it was a lot of food and cost wise I was attempting to save a bit. Coleslaw was great. Not overly sweet or overly dressed. Mac n cheese was creamy but lacked seasoning. I was underwhelmed. Most disappointing thing was the catfish. Although it was seasoned well. It was crispy on top and greasy and mushy on the bottom. There was also a discrepancy on the price of the catfish filet. I asked ahead of time how much for a singe piece to see if cost wise it would make sense to order things the way I did. She quoted me a price and it was $2 more. Not about the money. But principle. A pet peeve of mine is asking for information and server giving out wrong info rather than double checking. But. Despite food not being great. I would come back and order something different... I loved the energy and vibe.
