Having seen this spot many times over the years, but never stopping in, I decided to go for breakfast one weekday, while I was in the area. There only seemed to be two employees working; the cook and the server, but service was still quite prompt. When I got there, there was only one other person dining in there, but by the time I left, there were many others and several more tables sat. They also seemed to have a few take-out orders pop in while there, so they clearly do a decent business. The menu is typical, basic diner fare, nothing creative nor unique. I opted for a bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich on English muffin and it was pretty good. The breakfast potatoes that I got as a side were nicely done, with a little crusty fry on the sides, which I really like. Overall, it was decent.

If you're looking for a home style breakfast that isn't run by some corporate chain, Tom's diner has got you covered. Although it's not open 24/7 like the diners I grew up with, you definitely feel the small town diner vibe when you walk in. Yes there is a trailer park behind this place. If that in any way influences your opinion of the food, I don't really know what to say about except to check your privilege. Food didn't take too long to come out after we ordered. It was mostly younger families at the tables and some old timers sitting at the counter. Really liked the atmosphere of this place during the brunch hours. Waitress was super nice and made sure to come by and check on us to see how we were doing. Will definitely be back again.

I ordered a range of items. Not bad, not amazing. The salad was a complete disappointment.

What the diner lacks in modern aesthetics, it makes up for in great food! Wendy (waitress) who has been there 23 years - was great! Fast service, everything came out hot and perfect!

Yes! Another authentic diner close by! There is one other on same road but really packed on Sunday so tried out Toms. The coffee excellent and mug never empty. My food was served quickly and was excellent. Nestled in front of a trailer park which I never knew existed, the parking was limited but doable. I liked the patrons! A biker dude was seated in booth next to me and when he saw an elderly couple enter, he jumped to his feet and gently guided the man to his seat. We will become regulars!

Tom's Diner is a classic greasy spoon kind of place. I've only come here for breakfast and got the same thing both times: buttermilk pancakes with the country omelette. The country omelette is carb heaven. It has potatoes inside of it (along with bacon and onions and some other things), with your choice of home fries or hashbrowns, and some sort of toast on the side. It's delicious, always really fresh, and they're not shy about stuffing the omelette. You won't leave the diner with an empty stomach. Everything's reasonably priced, staff are really friendly, and the diner attracts a variety of people... Young to elderly couples, families, and they even make people who seat alone feel welcomed in the diner. I recommend if you're looking for a lowkey and casual restaurant!

Be a little kinder than you have to. Do business w/ the local stores.

Tom's Diner in Manassas, VA, has been operating since 1979. Funny thing is it's located just 3 minutes down the road from the jam-packed IHOP and serves just as good a breakfast (maybe better). No offense to IHOP. But there's no waiting at Tom's and the service here is superb. Folks here are kind, patient, and attentive. That Greek omelette and home fries were absolutely yummy!

This was our final visit to The Omelette Cafe…read more The food itself was fine, but unfortunately everything else about the experience was bad enough that I will never return. I also do not want a response from the owner or management. I genuinely wish this small local business well, but I can no longer justify giving it another chance. During our previous visits, we already felt the value compared to the pricing was becoming questionable, but we wanted the restaurant to succeed. Today sealed the deal. When we arrived, only about 4 or 5 of the roughly 12 tables were occupied, with two waiters working the dining room. Most of the empty tables were dirty, many still covered with dishes from previous customers. The floor throughout the dining room was dirty and covered with debris. One waiter asked how many were in our party and directed us to a table. He sprayed and wiped only half the table with Windex. The other half, where the condiments were sitting, remained dirty. A few minutes after sitting down, I unfortunately put my finger directly into old sticky syrup that had clearly not been cleaned. The waiter took our order fairly quickly, but then poured cream directly into our coffees instead of letting us add it ourselves. Mine ended up with far too much cream. While waiting to use the restroom, I had a clear view into the kitchen area and noticed the kitchen floor appeared just as dirty as the dining room floor. What stood out most was that neither waiter seemed aware of or concerned about the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. There was no sense of urgency or attention to the condition of the dining room. After waiting several minutes for the men's restroom, one waiter told me to go ahead and use the women's restroom instead. The restroom itself seemed reasonably clean, but the paper towel dispenser was broken, and a loose roll of paper towels was sitting on top of the toilet, damp from previous use. When we were ready to leave, one waiter asked how the service was. At that point, I simply wanted to leave as quickly as possible, so I said it was fine. He then left the payment machine at the table for me to run my own card, and even the machine itself was damp and unclean. Overall, the entire restaurant felt sticky, dirty, and poorly maintained. The tables were not being properly cleaned, the floors were sticky throughout the restaurant, and the overall lack of cleanliness completely overshadowed the meal itself. I truly wish this business success, but after three visits, I will not be returning.

I was intrigued by the pastrami sandwich options on the menu and really appreciated that gluten free bread was an option, so I had to try it! I was not disappointed at all. The sandwich was hefty - packed with meat, and flavorful. I'm not sure I liked the pile of salad that comes on the side - it's a lot to finish for one person and seems a bit wasteful. The service was good, but the sandwiches did take a bit longer than expected to come out. That might not be the case for other dishes though. I would certainly visit again!

For example, yesterday, I had their Peter's Special, a sandwich made from 1/2 lb of pastrami and 1/2 lb of corned beef. Except that it's not "a" sandwich, but three, all on delicious rye bread, each with its own pickle, and a small helping of slaw, sauerkraut, and a major pile of salad. It was my lunch yesterday; the remaining two sandwiches are my lunch today and tomorrow. That's three meals for $30, which, to me, is a reasonable price. The problem was that the more they do to create the food, the less flavorful it is. For example, on another recent visit, I had their Country Style Omelet. Again, it was huge and contained everything that goes into a great omelet. Except, there wasn't a lot of flavor. And that seems to be the theme. I grabbed a slice of their 24-layer cake and, again, big but not much taste beyond sweetness. If you crave a lot of food, then this might be the spot for you. However, if you prefer less and more, smaller portions with better, more nuanced flavor, then maybe try one of the other nearby restaurants.

The staff was friendly but not as attentive especially once we had our food. Mocha Banana Cold Brew - Caramelized banana mix, chocolate, vanilla extract, milk, cold oat foam. Way too sweet for me! What was I thinking?! I ended up ordering a plain cold brew and mixed most of it to the drink to tame the sweetness. Other than this, it was a nice drink. Fried Pickle-Brined Chicken & Waffle - Breaded boneless chicken (halal), pecan waffle, cherry pepper honey, sausage gravy and syrup. Chicken was nice and tender. Chicken & Waffle is all about that combo taste of sweet and savory! Good dish! The bright spot was our pleasant and knowledgeable waitress! I ordered the fish and chips - now I know that the Silver Diner is not a seafood restaurant, but the reality in my opinion is that fish and chips is an easy dish to make. I have enjoyed fish and chips at more restaurants than I can count, including some of the world's finest seafood on a recent trip to Iceland. My fish at the Silver Diner had the thickest and most dense breading that I have ever had! It was terrible to me. There was nothing about the breading that was light - it was way too thick, too glutinous, and the fish was substantially overcooked to the point of being dry. The fish and chips were served with a cup of chicken soup which was mediocre at best - under seasoned. We did start dinner with an appetizer of fried shrimp seasoned with a bit of Old Bay. It actually tasted very good but again the shrimp were very sadly overcooked which made them tough and chewy. So the food is definitely not for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a discerning taste. I also consider the food here very expensive relative to some other nearby restaurants that provide some truly great food at a much better price point.
