I called this place to see if they had time to do my nails and they said "yes." I really wish they would have said no because it was a waste of money. The "pedicure" took about 10-15 mins. My feet didn't even completely go into the water. I let them know this was the case and nothing was done to correct the matter. The Pedicure I was charged for was really just them painting my nails because I didn't have any polish on my feet. Not sure why they used this type of pedicure method when they had the actual pedicure chairs. This is by far the worst place I've been. No cuticle cut, foot scrub was terrible and although I was nice about the whole thing, I won't be coming back here again. read more

Today I went back to give them another shot since my first time was horrible and it was horrible all over again. I walked in as soon as they opened. My friend and I walked in to get a full set and pedicure. The man started my nails and they were to thin so I politely said "can I please have another coat of powder because they are to thin?" That's all I said! He got so upset and started being rough with me. Pulling and pushing my arm, making noises with his mouth, making it SUPER obvious that he was mad. He then painted my nails like a 5 year old. He then says "dry your nails over here." Took my phone and keys and LITERALLY threw them by the nail dryer, then another customer politely handed them to me. It was HORRIBLE customer service and he was so rude. I wont EVER go there again. I went in on Friday for a powered dip manicure (that usually last up to 3 weeks) and the dip/nail polish began falling off by Sunday. I requested a refund because I wanted to get it done again elsewhere and they refused to give me a full refund. I was very patient and went back 3 times because I kept being asked to go back and when I did they only wanted to refund me half of my money!!!!! Definitely not worth it. When you come to Downey and you are looking for a cheap medi-pedi that would do the job than you should definitely check out this place! Although they lack spa chairs and the whole fancy interior, they have been here at this exact location for over twenty years. Here are a few tips if you decide to give this place a try: 1) Make an appointment! I would recommend you seek out Mimi. She is friendly, pretty, and she does the best job for your buck! (fyi she has Tuesdays and Wednesdays off) 2) Avoid walk-ins on weekends. They are usually packed on weekends so if you are expecting a VERY good mani-pedi than please avoid weekends! 3) Wear slippers! 4) Bring something to do so you don't get bored while waiting. I like the way my manicure and gel paint come out. Had a full set out on, they were too thick for me... Scale of 1-10, rate 7 for that price. Only make sure you pay in cash... Unfortunately their ATM service double charged me. No one had an answer for me. They only suggested to wait for my bank. WTH? Hopefully my 34$ will be deposited back into my account soon. Horrible pedicure experience with Steven. Do not go with him! Not only did he give me what seemed like a 5-minute pedicure, he didn't even apologize for the horrible service. I was sitting in the spa chair. Another customer walks in the shop requesting his service. He hurried up. He didn't buff my nails, put lotion or clean under my nails. I had to remind him to clean under my nails. And, by this time, I'm upset and don't request the other items. When I get charged, I get charged for a full service I didn't receive. I disputed that but it didn't even matter. They charged the full amount. Don't get a pedicure there...you'll be charged full price for half the service. read more

Not pleased with service. More specifically with the man. Its only the next day and i got a couple nails redid for air pockets but not all air pockets were fixed... meaning i had more work to be done but he didnt want to be as helpful as a customer would hope for. I wanted a whole new color and i was willing to pay for it... but they ignored just about all my requests and didnt finish fixing what needed to be fixed. I said i would prefer someone else to do it but they gave me the same guy anyways. I felt a little anxious bc he wasnt very gentle or respectful or kind the way the other women were but im capable of keeping my cool. His attitude continued to the next day, not a good feeling! Im back home and the paint is chipping and bubbles are forming again. I wont ever go back. This place is a joke! I came here because my usual place had closed early. It was my first time and I was not impressed. The woman who did my manicure was rushing and did a terrible job. First she took off my existing gel polish with the electrical file tool and a metal tip! It's called SOAK OFF gel not file it off til her nails hurt gel! My nails are pretty healthy and thick now they feel tender. Then she layered the color so thick! It looked horrible! Another person had to repaint 3 of my nails because of how poorly it was first done. The spa pedicure was ok. My only issue was she started to cut my toe nails and file when I was still getting my hands done and my feet were completely dried! Had I not asked her to stop she would've cut my cuticles completely dry! By far a terrible experience and I regret just not going back to my usual place! I definitely won't be returning! read more

I am giving Tom's Nails 4 stars because I'm so picky. Mimi did my nails (she gets 5 stars!), I always go natural, or gel, but I've been working so hard that my hands were looking.. RATCHET! Mimi did my nails and they were so beautiful.. I noticed a few things I'd want to change for next time, but I was satisfied. Get home, my husband says: "why did you get fake nails?" So a week later I go back with a picture of how I want my nails. Believe me when I say that they look so natural and beautiful!!!!!!! Mimi exceeded my expectations! This place is horrible! I should have known since they need to buzz you in to get inside, once in there the place is a dump. I was desperate and figured they can't screw up a simple gel polish (not manicure, based on the grimy/dirty place I wouldn't let them use their tools on me). Well I was wrong, they can definitively mess that up. The lady who did my gel polish change was sloppy, she wouldn't even let the gel dry before applying the additional coats, she then proceeded to walk away from me and I thought she would be back to finish, she didn't a gentleman came to wipe off the gel but I told him it wasn't dry yet he didn't care he started wiping off my nails with alcohol and of course the gel color was rubbing off. I was pissed, I told him the color was coming off and he was upset that he had to go over them again. Well he didn't let them completely dry either and needless to say I was so over it at this point that I left and went elsewhere to fix up the fucked up job. I ended up paying twice because this nail salon has shitty people working in there that don't care about making there customers happy. This place has been here for years, same owner. They don't have spa chairs, but if you need a regular pedicure Helen is the one to go to, she is awesome at removing ingrown toe nails. I've gone to other nail salons because i wanted a spa pedicure, but other then rubbing salt on my legs, they just wash my feet...I can wash my feet at home thank you very much! Sitting in the parking lot pissed. I've come here on several occasions and have never experienced such terrible customer service. I walked into an already busy salon with only 3 employees, I wasn't even acknowledged or asked what I wanted. After 10-15 minutes of waiting, another girl walks in and within a minute a lady asks what she wants and takes her straight to the back for a wax (which is what I wanted!) In search of a good nail shop!!! I can't find one- Toms nails was ok but I wish they would clean out the cuticle a bit more. I thought the shop was decent looking and fairly clean.they have a smart setup for the UV lights which is comfortable while getting a gel manicure. They put the lights in the table. I do think the polish was quick and easy And The service was a 2 out of 5. Not very friendly or talkative. However they did greet me right away. I was surprised at their steel gate as you need to be buzzed in to enter , other than that it was not a 5 star nail shop. I am only reviewing based on the gel manicure, and on a first impression of the shop.
