I have been coming to this business for over 20 years and actually have been with the same person how fortunate is that . My girl is Linda and she is so creative and knows exactly what services I need. All the other girls are really good as well good as well. Their prices are pretty average, and I believe they have other services as well besides nails. So I thought I'd show some love to my long-term nail place. This is the worst nail salon in Downey. First of all, their prices are DOUBLE that of any other nail salon in the area. A regular manicure (no gel) where she didn't even trim my daughter's cuticles was $28! Nothing special about this salon other than the fact that they are slower than snails. I went in to get a gel mani and pedi. 1) Nail tech did not wear gloves. 2) she nicked my pinky finger while filing. 3) I had to tell her to please paint close to the nail edge or else I'd need a mani again in week. 4) she barely massaged my hands 5) the nail tech working on my toes painted over my skin. I came in for a color change after i had done my set at another place the day before. It was meant to be easy and a simple different color. I was helped by Julia. She left my nails SUPER BUMPY and when i tried to tell her she pretended like she didn't understand. I am so disappointed by the outcome. It's so hard finding a salon where I can walk out totally satisfied. I'm not real picky or fancy when it comes to my nails but I do like them to look nice. I usually drive all the way to Fountain Valley (from Downey) where I can get my nails done by nice and courteous people. But with these gas prices it just isn't worth it money wise. Magical Nails is literally walking distance from my house! I took a chance and made an appointment. I HATE being the "new girl" ANYWHERE! I waited less than 5 minutes and was sweetly greeted by my nail tech Thy (pronounced T) She took her time and was very precise while doing my fill and polish. She did a fantastic job!!! I haven't been this happy with my nails in a long time!! It was $34 for a fill with gel polish. It's an extra $3 fee if you pay with a card. (so my total was $37) Card is only accepted for charges $30 and over (plus the $3 fee) Anything under $30 is cash only I don't care for that rule or agree with a $3 fee but whatever. I've been here several times throughout the years and I never make an appointment. When I do stop by, the wait is usually about a half hour. This place is always busy, but there's plenty of people that work fast and efficiently here. They are always so friendly and welcoming. This is the place where I normally get my pedicure ($23) done with gel and they do a great job. They have a wide variety of colors to choose from. Even though it's busy I feel that they take their time with the customer and never rush. They do good work on your nails. I've waxed ($7) my eyebrows here before in the little room that they have in the back. This place is kept clean. There is a minimum of $25 to use your debit or credit card. Tammy did my pedicure on my most recent visit and she was always checking up on me making sure I was doing okay. read more

I don't live close to this place and there are at least 10 nail shops between my house and this one. The only reason I keep coming back is because I love how Lynn does my nails!! I'm super picky about how i like my nails done and I always like trying out different shapes. Somehow Lynn can always read my mind and give me exactly what I pictured in my head. I also love that she doesn't over file my natural nails. Because of her my natural nails were able to grow to a length they have never been just in time for my wedding. Linda polished my nails and fixed the bubbles once she done she followed me outside and said "next time you come in someone else can do for you" I asked why her answer "because you come in to fix" I was like okayyyyyy?? Although it was the only nail salon open on Christmas Eve and I was in much need for a manicure, many things stood out to me. All manicurist did not wear gloves. They did not use freshly cleaned or sterile instruments. When I asked them to cut my nails short, they really really cut them short so beware of that. The price was good. And maybe because of the holiday they were in a rush, but not using clean instruments and gloves is a big big no no in covid times. Not the friendliest salon but it got the job done. I prefer having an appointment for my mani and pedi because I don't have time to sit and wait as a walk in. I scheduled appointments regularly every 2-3 weeks with Thi. She did a nice job but no attempt at any small talk or even smile. It felt awkward but I dealt with it and just started listening to podcasts. I understand the goal of the nail techs is book as many appointments as possible in a day. I'm conscious of the fact that the timing isn't always exact between customers. I had no problem waiting 5-10 mins for Thi to FINISH up a customer. However I walked in for my appointment and Thi had taken a new customer in the chair. She acknowledged me and asked me to sit and wait 5 mins. After 10 mins I asked her, "what was going to happen?" Again I got the 5 minutes response. I was trying to be accommodating but I was getting upset. What is the purpose of an appointment if you are made to wait for a walk in during your appointment time. After another 10 mins I made eye contact with Thi and she started talking to another worker in their language and they were obviously laughing at the fact that I was stupid enough to keep waiting. Because that's how I felt stupid! It was 20 mins after my appointment and she was no where near being finished. I had waited because I thought she was going to hand off her customer to someone else. I let her know I didn't need an appointment anymore, ignored any comments and walked out! There is a nail shop on almost every corner. I'm sure I won't have trouble finding another nail lady that wants a consistent appointment customer that tips 20%. read more

I called 3 hours before this business wad to close and asked if they had any open appointments before they closed. They asked what I needed done, I told them a fill and a pedicure and was told they only had time to fit me in an hour after I called. I was fine with that so I made the appointment. I walked in 5 minutes earl89y and was seated right away. Then the problems started... I wanted a different color on each nail and was told no, so I settled for just one. Next as they started painting my nails I was told they didn't have time to do a pedicure. I was upset and told them I would have never come there had they told me that on the phone and they figured a way to magically have someone to do it. I wish they hadn't. Worst pedicure I have ever had. Completely rushed through (15 minutes from start to finish) no massage at all just half way rubbing lotion in. Meanwhile the man next to me had paraffin on his feet and was getting a full massage including his hands as he waited for the wax to harden. I understand they were running behind and had to finish so they could close on time but I was willing to pay extra for the extra services I was never offered but got to watch others enjoy. My advice is to skip this business. They clearly don't care about the customer experience. If you don't have time to give good service, don't add the appointment to your day. read more

I don't know...I think all nail shops in Downey suck! I have been to probably a dozen or more in search for a CLEAN, sanitary, competent place, and I have yet to find one. I used to patronize magic nails for 10+ years but about two years ago I left for good because I just despised the service and the half-assed job they had been doing consistently for so many visits. Fast forward a few years to today and I call and no surprise they are rude on the phone and act like THEY ARE DOING ME A FAVOR TO DO MY NAILS AND HAVE MY BUSINESS. I arrive a few minutes before my appt and they are prepared and waiting for me. A star for that because that is a rarity. Normally they make you wait even with an appt. The pedicure was very basic and nothing special or luxurious but my girl Kim didn't cut me and she did a decent job so another star for that. Last star because I think they are marginally clean and the little cheap pedicure tub is always lined with a bag that I hope they change out for each customer but who knows! $15+tip and I walk out 45 minutes later with my red pedi for Christmas. read more
