I would strongly advise against buying a Hyundai from this dealership. Here's a rundown of my experience: 1. Pushed into a bad deal: I was pressured into buying a car with front-end damage. 2. Two sales people told me untruths about the car. "The car automatically comes with a 3 year maintenance plan from the manufacturer." I told him that the maintenance plan went away last year. Then he stated he has all his customers spend $4k to get all of their oil changes covered so they would be "Free"! "They have had the same motor in the palisade since 2020 and they actually found a way to up the horse power and torque for 2026." Not correct. They went from 3.8 liter to a 3.5 liter and the numbers went down, not up, in horse power and torque. 3.Text offer: I received a text offer of $7,000 off the MSRP with Costco pricing 4. In-person interaction: I went in to get the numbers all figured out, but they showed me $16,000 over the MSRP with various add-ons. 5. Inconsistent information: Every time I mentioned the number I was told over text, they said it was impossible to get to that number in person. 6. Promises of a better car: They kept promising me that they would get me the car I actually wanted to buy, but they all sold that day, so they could couldn't do a dealer trade. 7. Car I wanted is still for sale: The car I wanted is still available at the other dealership. When I pointed this out, they blamed someone else and never reached out to me again. 8. underestimated taxes and fees: They underestimated my taxes and fees on their offers so the out the door price looks cheaper, which resulted in a $600 difference from what I actually paid. It's important to be aware that they will often understate your taxes and fees to get you into financing. read more

I am so done with Tonkin Gladstone Hyundai!! My Sonata Hybrid had a startling alarm that flashed "Do not drive, Check Hybrid Charging system". I had the car towed to the dealership, and described issue and that there was a "malfunction" light on the instrument display. One of their service managers told me "No problem Sir we will fix it. They call me the next day and tell me that it's a "software issue" and the technician will install the latest update and that should fix it. I think they quoted me $420 to "expose the HCM (Hybrid Control Module) and do the update. I had to approve it for them to do the work. I get a call the following day. "We found another issue with your car Mr. Sessler" "The throttle isn't closing all of the way, we won't be able to get the part for about a week" We have a loner car for you while we wait for the part. I have my wife drive me out to the dealership to pick up the loaner car so I can get back and forth to work while they "fix" my car. I was appalled at how dirty the loaner was. The center console was filled with trash, there were water bottles left by the previous user on the back seat. Driving home I realized the wiper blades were smearing so badly it was difficult to see. When I got it home, and started cleaning it out so I could be comfortable not sitting next to a pile of trash. I checked the tire pressures and found them ALL to be underinflated. I called the following morning and told the service writer that I wanted to change the wiper blades with some from the local discount tire store so I could safely drive the car in the upcoming predicted rain. He told me "They have to be Hyundai Blades, and I would need to return the car to them for replacement". I told him if I was going to return it the 30 miles from my home to have them put them on they needed to but my gasoline to do it. It cost me over two hours of MY TIME to do what they NEVER should have allowed to happen before leaving the dealer ship. They obviously aren't concerned with customer's health or safety by providing loaners with such conditions. Tire pressures are BASIC maintenance that they can't even seem to master with their loners, how can I have ANY confidence in the rest of how they care for vehicles? So about 10 days later they call me ". Sir your car is fixed". I go take back the loaner car and get my car back and pay a $1709.00 bill. I get in my car to drive to work the next morning, and drive about 13 miles the car throws the same alarm that caused me to have it towed to begin with. They never even fixed to issue that I had the car towed to have them FIX. So now it looks like they didn't put much effort into finding the original issue when they found another code in the computer that would allow them to sell me an additional $800 part. The only thing they are interested is up selling. When I complained to the service manager about it not being repaired for the issue it was brought in for, he asked me to bring it back so they could "fix" it, but then made reference to the age and mileage of the vehicle as a preemptive excuse for them possibly not being able to fix it. So I wasn't going to give them the opportunity to make me more of a victim of their up selling business practices. I told him I was sure they would tell me they couldn't get the parts to fix it, so they could try to sell me a new car after taking the existing one hostage. Do you like being lied to when you buy a car? If so, this is the place for you. Purchased a 2025 Tesla Model 3 that was advertised in writing as having "Full Self Driving" (supervised) and was confirmed by the salesperson during the test drive. This is an $8,000 option and the reason we bought the car to begin with. After purchasing the vehicle, they did a quick detail on the vehicle and shattered both vanity mirrors while detailing the car and we didn't notice until we were 200 miles away. Dealership never transferred the car out of the past owner's name with Tesla so we had no way to charge the car on the way home as you have to register the car on Tesla's app for supercharging. We were stuck on the side of the road at a charger for 6 hours while on hold with Tesla trying to get the car into our name. Talking with Evan the sales manager he refused to accept responsibility for advertising a car with a high-end feature that it did not have and wanted to play word games that the car had the capability. Every Tesla has the capability for FSD, that does not mean you get to advertise it as having this option. Car also came with the previous owners Personal and Identifiable information in the form of 1 personal check, 2 different business's checks, a bank statement showing what is in their accounts, a full resume with contact information and other banking information. It has now been more than 3 months since I apparently rented what I thought was a purchase of my Hyundai Kona at Tonkin Gladstone Hyundai. I have been going round and round with the dealership and management personnel there. I am still waiting for the refund of the $1495 warranty I never wanted and was lied to about. Their excuse? They said I never signed the refund paperwork, which I did and even sent them proof that it was signed. It was signed via docusign, software that auto returns sgned paperwork back to sender. I have not received the 250kw hours of free charging I was told would be included. I received a letter from Hyundai dated Dec 2, 2024 that my credit had been denied, though they have been processing payments from me. The letter said they repulled my credit which the dealer had pulled. My credit is excellent (reported at 857 from dealership). That's not good enough for the Finance company? How can they deny me credit and continue to accept my payments? That is NOT legal if they denied my credit. I have filed a complaint with the Oregon DOJ against the business. My dealings with Tonkin Gladstone Hyundai can be summarized as follows, how likely is it that a long time salesman, a finance specialist and a sales manager at this dealership didn't know that under the Federal tax incentive on USED EV's that has been in place since 1/1/23 only the SECOND retail buyer from a dealership is entitled to an incentive payment from the IRS of as much as 20% of the purchase price not to exceed $4,000 for any two year old or older EV costing less than $25,000. This incentive ends on 9/30/2025. I visited the dealership on July 29, dealt with Alan Hassen a salesman and Jeff Westrand a finance specialist. I selected a 2022 Chevy Bolt that I had seen advertised and specifically asked both of these individuals if the federal incentive was available on this vehicle as the Carfax report indicated it had two prior owners. They both assured me that it was eligible and that it was a risk the dealership was taking in accepting the assignment so long as I met the requirements as a qualified buyer. I paid in full for the vehicle on Friday August 1by fed wire. On Tuesday August 5th shortly after noon EDT I received a call from Evan Walter who introduced himself as a sales manager at the dealership and somewhat their resident geek when it comes to the Federal tax incentives and for reasons he did not understand the incentive payment had not been cleared. He subsequently advised me in an email this was the first time they had experienced this issue. He advised there was no issue with my qualification. He offered to attempt to find a replacement vehicle at a similar price point after the incentive. I indicated a willingness to consider such an arrangement. His first recommendation was acceptable however my calculations reflected a $796 increase in the cost while Evan claimed it was a $1,178 difference. Shortly following this conversation I found by digging further into the IRS.gov site that this incentive was only available to the second retail buyer. SO WAS I DEALING WITH A TRIO OF REPRESENTATIVES OF TONKIN GLADSTONE HYUNDAI WHO WERE UNAWARE OF THE RULES REGARDING THE INCENTIVES THAT HAVE BEEN IN PLACE FOR OVER TWO AND A HALF YEARS OR WAS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON? By this time Evan had involved Floyd Schafer in our email communications. On August 7 I sent Evan and cc Walter Schafer that i had done further research on the tax credit and attached a copy of the regulation which clearly stated that the subject vehicle of our current dispute did NOT qualify. I requested that they return all the funds I had paid them plus the $30 cost of the fed wire and provide me written confirmation by 9:00 am PDT the following morning that they would comply with confirmation that the check would be available the following afternoon. I received confirmation back from Walter Schafer the General Manager approximately 30 minutes later that they would reimburse with a check for the amount of my wire plus the $30 cost and credit my credit card for the $2,500 down payment I had made. My son picked up a company check the next afternoon and I received a credit for the amount paid on my credit card that day as well. I seriously considered filing a claim for specific performance and seeking financial penalties but quickly determined that dealing with this ilk wasn't worth my time. We all must decide who we chose to do business with and after my experience I will avoid any future dealings with this dealer or any of the other dealerships under the same ownership. Just bought a used 2023 Sonata and decided to take it here for an oil change. I was quoted a price of $85 for the oil change, tire rotation, and 144 point inspection . I actually called back and double checked that the price was $85 and was assured that it was. When I got to the appointment the service adviser informed me that since this car uses a full synthetic, something that was a well established fact when I made the appointment, the price for the oil change would be $122. We had also asked about a leaking tire repair, something that most tire places do for free these days, and they wanted $50.....if the tire could even be saved. I recently purchased a new Sonata and while I really like the car I feel this dealership did a number on me. They told me my trade in was only worth $4,000. Since my trade in had very low mileage, a new engine, new tires and was spotless inside and out I disagreed. They then produced a print out from CarMax that said my car was worth $5,000. so I accepted that. When I got home, I put my trade in on CarMax and they offered $7,500. The dealership had put it in as "fair" condition when they should have put "good". They turned around and sold my trade in for $10,000 in a day! They also told me I needed to buy additional warranty coverage for thousands of dollars because Hyundai does not cover electrical components in its warranty. After discussing this with Hyundai corporate, I found out that this was a flat out lie. I recommend the car but buy it someplace else! read more

We all know the stereotypes about sketchy car salesmen and dealerships, and Tonkin Gladstone Hyundai is the reason why these stereotypes exist! I went into this dealership with a PRE APPROVAL from OnPoint for a 2013 Ford Transit, fully ready to move forward with purchasing the vehicle utilizing my OnPoint loan and a down payment. I am a self employed business owner and have been running my business since October of 2023, I was completely and 100% transparent about that from the very beginning. When I sat down with the financing department, Ali convinced me to let him see if he could find me a better loan, which with a little convincing, I was open to. When he let me know that OCCU would fully finance the vehicle for me at a slightly better interest rate that sounded like a great deal. So we signed the deal, they gave me the keys, I drove off the lot, switched my insurance policy, canceled my original loan pre approval, started moving all my house cleaning equipment into the vehicle, and then TWO WEEKS later I get a call from the dealership saying that OCCU decided not to fund the loan because I have only been in business for myself since October of 2023, and that I had 3 days to find alternative financing. As a consumer I had no idea that the loan was only 'pre approved' by a computer algorithm or that it was not a 100% guarantee. How it was overlooked that I am SELF EMPLOYEED with a newly established business is beyond me. BEST BUSINESS PRACTICE WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETE TRANSPARENCY. Someone at this dealership should have, at the VERY LEAST, made me aware that this loan wasn't 100% approved yet or guaranteed. Especially in the finance department, seeing that, again, they were fully aware that I am self employed with a newly established business. They should have been practiced at their job enough to recognize that the loan could have potentially come back as denied based upon this information, and advised me not to cancel my pre-approval with OnPoint or establish a new insurance policy for this new vehicle. But instead they let me drive off the lot under the assumption that the loan was fully funded. When I tried to get to the bottom of how in the hell this could have happened all anyone would give me were vague responses, gas lighting, some sort of run around, or just not getting back to me all together when they said they would. Finally, I decided that I would only deal with a manager about this issue. Evan responded to me promptly with a clear response about how this issue was a huge oversight by their dealership, and then proceeded to offer me a 'genuine sorry' about the immense amount of trouble and inconvenience this all caused. Unfortunately that didn't really do much for me in the situation, having to take time I did not have to go BACK to my bank to REAPPLY for a loan, getting hit with 6 hard inquiries on my credit score, and all the time and frustration this caused me. As a business owner myself, if a customer is upset or there is an error on my part, I am the first one to take FULL responsibility, offer ACTUAL SOLUTIONS or some sort of COMPENSATION for their time and trouble. Not just offering some bullshit 'genuine I'm Sorry' I was the one to have to ask Evan to get creative on how the dealership was going to right this wrong beyond 'i'm sorry' and days later I had to ask AGAIN to see if he had come up with any solutions. To that he responded with a free tank of gas and a free car detail (which I have to drive all the way out to gladstone for) which I do appreciate, But why in heck was I the one that had to insist on this multi million dollar dealership offering me something other than a useless sorry?! Ridiculous! It's so unfortunate that big dealerships can get away with a useless 'sorry' and bad business practices because they have 2000 reviews on google and my voice won't create much of a ripple in the water. But in what Universe would you move into a house, establish an insurance policy, start moving your belongings in, and then two weeks later be told that your loan actually got denied and you have less than a week to figure out financing or you'll have to give the house back. They were to fix the non working air conditioning and to fix the interior of the car doors which was falling down. Got the "AC fixed" and interior was repaired. Drove the car maybe 6 times and the AC went out and no longer worked, and the clutch went out on the vehicle as well. The car was also advertised with extra features it didn't have and they never really answered why. Even though a warranty was purchased was met with a very rude service department and an estimate for 1800 dollars to fix it... Laziest worst customer service I have ever had when trying to buy a car. We walked around the dealership looking at cars and were not greeted by anyone, despite saying hello to one of the salesmen who was outside doing nothing. We go inside to ask to see a car only to see three salespeople on their phones doing nothing. One of them finally looks up from their phone to ask if we need help. When we asked to see a particular car, and he had no idea which one we were talking about and asked us for their stock number. He was too lazy to simply type into the computer he was sitting by. He finally figured out what car we wanted to see and then told us the car in the photos online was NOT the car they actually had. He said they used stock photos for most of their cars. I guess they simply are too lazy to even take proper pictures or to write that disclaimer on their listings. What a freaking scam! After fumbling through this explanation he proceed to go look for the car for 10 minutes only to come back and tell us its in the back and not clean. We noticed most of the cars in the parking lot were not detailed so it wasn't a big surprise. After waiting for another 10 minutes for him to go find the car keys, so we decided to just leave. We figured they had something to hide since there is no reason why the cars cant be readily available. Cameron and Hero confirmed to us (both verbally and in writing) that we were first on the waitlist ("you're next, top of the list") for an Ionic 5 that we had been waiting for since May 2021. When our specified vehicle arrived, they sold it to someone else and initially claimed we had asked for rear wheel drive not AWD (not true) and then claimed we were #2 on the waitlist. Will never do business with dishonest people who don't stand behind their representations and assurances. Add to this that the Hyundai dealer network has been been allowed to gouge customers with $10-$20k 'market adjustment' premiums over MSRP on the back of a (somewhat) self-induced supply constraint of vehicles, and you have a really messed up process that isn't customer focused. Also I drive for work so I do oil changes every couple months so there is no way it went from $80 last time I was there to $110 in 2-3 months. Overall, our experience with Tonkin Hyundai was Very Good. Doug the Greek Daskalos Fleet manager called me after I sent emails out to the Hyundai dealers in Oregon. Prior to sending out emails, we went to Hyundai of Bend and test drove the Palisades Calligraphy in September. We told them we were not quite ready to purchase the vehicle. Doug of Tonkin was professional and kind. Long story short he gave me an itemized list Out The Door price for the Palisades Calligraphy after our first conversation. I told Doug he still needed to do better than that considering the Dealer mark up from the MSRP was approximately $6000. The next day he dropped the OTD itemized list price by approximately $600. Psychologically, as a buyer you "feel like" your getting a deal because he dropped it from the Dealer sticker price twice. It was still aprox. $4600 over MSRP. Fast forward, he assigned Will who facilitated the transaction until pick up on 11/3/2022. Ali Geramimafi was the finance manage. Very nice man. However, he made an error. He slipped in an additional $3100 for the extended warranty that I never asked for onto the official purchase order making the OTD price $3100 more. His rationale was "Oh I thought Doug or Will discussed that with you". Almost a deal breaker. He immediately edited the purchase order and apologized. Tacky move but not shocked considering dealers make money financing adding other items such as extended warranties. In addition, I had a credit score of Excellent over 800. Ali offered me 6.7% laughable. He then found a credit union who would do it for 4.7% 2 days later. Hence, I used my trusted credit union looked at their website and saw they advertised as low as 3.24% on auto loans (interest rates are higher now. Hence, dealers can significantly drop their mark ups considering the interest rates they offer you). Therefore, shop for yourself before accepting dealers significantly higher auto loan rates. Again, don't take it personal, Dealers are functioning because they have to make money, sales reps have to make a living; I get it but I still want a good deal and be treated with respect. Doug said something that caught my attention; that the process would be ethical. I appreciated that. Unfortunately, Ali slipping in the extended warranty onto the P.O. contradicted Doug. In addition, while driving back to Bend the suede on the molded beam passenger side popped out. And, when we got home the rear plastic hook broke (to hang grocery bags) & fell off. I sent photos to Will immediately. The beam Will said was missing a pin "it must have fallen out" and he apologized profusely for both items. This is why I haven't bought a Hyundai since we bought an Elantra years ago. I had all these parts that needed to be replaced all under warranty. Yes, they fixed it but it was incredibly inconvenient to have to go back to the dealer. However, good friends have a Palisades and love it. They have had no problems but it only has 26k miles. I am hoping the quality has improved. Also, you cannot beat the Calligraphy with all the bells and whistles for the price. Take aways and final comment: Review the itemize list they send you on the OTD price list that you accept. Review the final Purchase Order and make sure it matches the OTD list and price. Shop for your own auto loan. Dealers really prefer you do not but Tonkin was respectful of this process. I bought a used Hyundai Santa Fe this afternoon, and it was the most painless car buying experience I've had. Jennifer and David were so helpful. Jennifer took me through most of the process, and she was super kind and easy to work with. She informed me of all my available upgrades and options but never pushed or made me feel at all uncomfortable, and as someone like me who is easily pushed around in situations like this, I was extremely grateful for her style. There was no mystery, and I appreciated not being surprised by anything. I ultimately turned down an extended warranty, but I was offered a good deal on it, and there was no argument or pressure when I declined. My husbands vehicle recently has some mechanical issues and unfortunately he had to leave it at the dealership. Since then he's been waiting for the dealership to give him a loaner vehicle or at least a call back to let us know what is happening with the car ! Keep in mind it's been 2 weeks or more since this has happened. We have reached out to the dealership at least 10 times and just keep getting the run around. I first want to say that integrity is important in the car buying process this dealer has none. This dealer is willingly and knowingly screwing there customers over with absurd "Market Adjustment" if you think paying 10%+ over MSRP is normal it's not. There simply trying to condition you to feel as though it is. It's an action specifically condemned by the manufacture and is unethical. Save yourself the money call around to the 10+ other Hyundai dealers within a 3 hour drive of here. Service dept... Like any other new car repair shop, it's expensive and their diagnosis is a little skeptical. They tried to blame the new aftermarket oil filter for a low oil pressure warning light, even though that problem existed before filter replacement. I told him it's sequence beforehand. He forgot. So they tried to blame the quicky lube. How many of their present mechanics worked there? Then they blamed the gas cap for being loose. The same cap gas attendants twist until it clicks several times has come loose? Their factory gas cap, but that did not trigger the check engine light until you looked at it? Sounds like a well made gas cap if it comes loose by itself? Guys, it's not a trade secret one warning light can trigger the check engine light. A loose cap is a completely different warning than oil pressure, but to them, every customer suddenly becomes someone on their 1st visit to a car lot that also has enough money to not even question that $800-60k service that's not much more than an oil change. In their eyes you do not know a windshield wiper from a tire. Then they said the oil pressure light wasn't on. That's why I brought it in! Then see why it came on! Why ask what's wrong if it's not communicated to, or ignored by the mechanic? It only cost me the diagnostic fee which I did appreciate, but since they didn't find any problems to trigger the warning light, they said it could happen again. Not fixed. They claim they don't know why and won't try to fix what they probably know is a common problem. It is also among the most important warnings. When the light comes on, working properly or not, the recommendation from the manufacturer is, "Do Not Drive". "Do not operate engine". Just tell the next buyer, "it's perfectly normal to have the oil pressure light on. It doesn't work properly. No worries". They did fix the current recall issues. My cars problematic oil pressure sensor and all is not unusual and maybe that will be yet another recall? The most likely problem, but never mentioned here. What if the factory oil pump failed and ruined the engine. The purpose of the sensor. Who'd be upset over that? A "no warranty car" not covered by their failure. A car bought just a couple of months ago for $15k is now scrap? Thicken your skin mister, because you're going to get snapped at combining that news with your lame excuses for it's shortcomings. Apparently, a supposed loose gas cap supplants the fact your engine is not getting enough oil? Sure sounds like the equivalent to me. Or, they couldn't find the problem, so how about this? Those little old ladies your type prey upon might believe it? Maybe dirty cup holders caused a faulty oil sensor? Gremlins? Here's the bottom line. He was not technically correct, surprise, but the Service Manager at my local dealership said Hyundai's 10 year/100,000 mile warranty is voided if you buy used from any source, regardless of year or mileage or problem. Service advisors love to tell you this. It must make their day. They get to watch your reaction of extreme disappointment and disgust. I wonder if this applies to their hybrid system warranty? In reality, buying used will cut the warranty in about half. So after 5 yrs/60k miles, it's kaput. Service guy "misspoke", to be polite. Probably a big reason why this brand has a long warranty is its perceived questionable reliability? I know some car warranties are not always honored on a used car, but talk about not standing behind your product when it is their defect and not normal wear and tear. The part with labor would probably cost them less than $50. The charge? Probably 10 times that. So if most "pre-owned" Hyundai's have no factory warranty, there's no reason to ever use shops like this again, except for recalls. Why pay top dollar? It probably is no longer under warranty. At this dealer service they BS the customers with questionable diagnostics and the laziest attempts to deceive them. No need to go here for oil changes or service intervals. Nothing. Get it done elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. Everybody knows 3rd party extended warranties are almost never worth it. 80% are never used or honored. Source: a leading consumer magazine. This manufacturer sort of stands behind their cars. The dealership, nice folks but honesty loses every time to profits. It cost me $165 to learn this lesson. I probably could have used a code reader for free at the parts store to clear and see if there is a problem. Recalls fixed and recon intel made the cost tolerable. But I'm happy to share that with everyone for free. Most car manufacturers retain the original warranty if sold used. These guys, 50%. But at least not zero, like story boy said. I really wanted to give this car company a chance and find a dealer service shop on the up and up. Maybe I'll never have a problem again and at least the recalls will be addressed. When I walked in the saleswoman (Kaylee) I made my appointment with was helping another customer and I had to wait to start the car buying process. She was initially friendly but quickly stopped making any extra effort. The car I came in to view had front brakes that were borderline dangerous to drive with. The engine mounts were loose as well. When I brought these issues up I was brushed off and when I asked for a reduction in price or repairs to be done before buying, she changed the subject. She went off and took almost 30 minutes to print one piece of paper and bring it back to me. My brother was in a car in front of the dealership for social distancing reasons and saw her chatting it up with her coworkers and lollygagging while she kept me waiting. When she did come back she offered me sticker price and tried to explain that the brakes weren't in bad repair (trust me they were I could feel it on the test drive). She then proceeded to ignore every subsequent attempt I made to reduce the price in recognition of justifiable mechanical concerns. Additionally every time she went to "check with her manager" she took an excessively long time. They were busy but at least half that time she went to the back she kept me waiting while she chatted it up. I probably waited 45 minutes to an hour for her to print a piece of paper and various other minor tasks that should have been exceedingly quick. TDLR; Slow service, bad customer service, and overall felt like they didn't want my business. read more

Service department is horrible.  No one communicates, no one does what they say they will. Came in to get my loaner as the service department was closing. The lady trying to show me my loaner was walking outside, while my service advisor was trying to get the ok on my car. I was quoted an estimate of $3500. I had said that yes I had to have the repairs done because I am financing the car. I called the next morning stating I was not authorizing anything until I received a price quote. Was told my claim had gone back to Hyundai to see if it would be covered more, once they got that amount, the estimate would be sent to me. Did not authorize work on my car until a price quote was received. Was told I would get one via email. Never received, waited over 2 weeks to hear back, when I called was told my engine was on order. Never got updates, had to call constantly to know what was going on. Left voicemails for my service advisor that were never returned. Was never explained to why Hyundai wouldnt cover all of my engine failure on a car with less than 60k miles. Had I known I coukd of attempted to obtain the previous service records from the previous owners. read more
