We had a copper water pipe fitting break and needed the pipe capped and repaired. I was already going to deal with the high cost of water damage to my wood floors, and I was not looking forward to calling a plumber. I called Roy, who was our contractor eleven years ago. Having a gas line leak is the scariest feeling ever! Thankful that Tonkin made our safety a priority! After the initial call, I recieved a call from them getting a clearer picture of the problem. Fortunately, they were able to move up the appt time. Roy called letting us know he was on his way, showed up and got right to work. The toilet in our master bath started leaking, and my husband found a bolt completely rusted (pulled straight out without even unscrewing, yikes)! Monday morning I get a call from them and was told a serviceman would be out today between the hours of 12 noon and 2p.m. Wow! I was impressed. Then at 12 noon the serviceman arrived and in two hours it was replaced and the new water heater was running. The installation looked great. When the serviceman left it the clean up was immaculate. Scott has an amazing amount of experience and was very helpful on giving some tips on changes to improve the sewer system at a multi family unit. Their camera operation and location of where the pipe runs was A+. Never, ever, guess where you think a sewer pipe runs, have it located. For the 2nd time, I was surprised on the location of a sewer line, luckily both times I had it located. He was also very nice and suggested where I could buy a part for a 5" clay pipe to install a clean out, 5" is an oddball size that the usual plumbing suppliers do not carry in stock. Their hydrojet I would classify as a medium size, and it's good for what it is. The advantage is cost, compared to the towed units. I learned a lot working with them, they were on time, and very professional. Plumbing is one of these areas, where you are constantly learning. read more

I can not in any way recommend Tonkin Plumbing. I scheduled an appointment in advance in order to get time off from work to be home for a complex multi-hour drainage repair. The plumber Scott failed to show up at the appointed time. No one from Tonkin Plumbing contacted me concerning the missed appointment. Hours after the scheduled appointed time, Scott finally showed up at my door saying that he was diverted to another job. At no time did anyone from Tonkin plumbing, nor Scott, contact me to tell me that he would be hours late. Upon arriving Scott stated that he would do a partial job today and come back and complete the rest of the job on another day (how nice of them to rob me of another day's pay as part of their solution for missing the original appointment). The whole point was to get the job done on a single day due to the job's complexity and the time required to complete a proper job. Now, miraculously, the job had turned into a simpler job. For a complete lack of respect for a customers time and for failing to have basic of customer service skills, I rate Tonkin Plumbing 2 out of 5 stars. read more

I have used Tonkin on at least two occasions and had great luck and also gave them a referral to a friend that needed plumbing work. Today is a totally different story - I needed a hot water heater replaced for a tenant. I called and was told they would call me back with an estimate. 90 minutes later I needed to leave so I called and got the estimate with no apology for not calling back. I called back a short time later after finding out the water heater needed a propane supply. I was told they would check and it would probably be a higher price, but they would call me back to let me know. Never got a return phone call, so after waiting three hours, I called and cancelled their service for the next day. I receive a voicemail this morning questioning me about telling them on the cancellation voicemail the reason I was not thrilled that they did not call me two times yesterday after promising they would. The attitude on the voicemail was terrible and I am done using this Company. Danielle, this is you I'm referring to! We have used tonkin many times with very good luck. I can remember one time when I was at work and my wife was at home. We had a fencing company over to replace the fencing around our back yard. The person taking out the old fence used a jack hammer to remove the old post. He jack hammered right into the skimmer return line for our pool. My wife didn't know that the skimmer line was broken. She though it was a house water line so she shut off the main water line to the house and called me. She said to me that whole back yard is flooded and water still keeps filling it up even thought the main water line is shut off. I came home and saw the fencers shoveling water out of a big hole. I told them that as long as the pool is filled, they would have to keep shoveling water. The fencing company is no longer in business. I wonder why? Tonkin plumbing came for an emergency rescue! You would never think you need a plumber for a pool, but this time we needed one. Tonkin plumbing came and plugged the pool skimmer with a special plug. Then they removed all the standing water and repaired the skimmer pipes that were severed by the jack hammer. After all was said and done, the fencing company paid for all the plumbing damages. We have also had Tonkin do other plumbing around the house. Like a water heater, pressure regulator, and other various sinks. They always have done an excellent job! read more

Today is the 2nd time we've had Tonkin come out. We are able to get a live person during business hours, reasonable appointments (not weeks out & they check if you have an emergency first thing & save slots for ASAP issues). We've had appts within 2-3 days each time. Initially we needed to move washer & dryer into the garage from the kitchen so we needed new gas & water lines along with some concrete removed. They showed up right on time. This job was very efficient, clean & they showed us exactly what they'd do, why and worked with what we wanted. 2nd visit (today) we had a slight gas leak (reported to us by Gas Co during free annual furnace check) on the newer gas line leading to dryer. We also needed a new valve on our water heater & a separate fix over at our parent's rental property. They gave a 4-hour window, arrived within the 1st hour of the window and even called ahead to say he was en-route. Owner came personally to check work from first time, fixed that and changed valve & left everything cleanER than we had it! Now he's on the way to the rental and they're great about separate invoices so the rental can be paid out of that account. All-in-all very a professional and well-run company. Speaks volumes to me that the owner himself responded when we had a problem with something they had worked on previously (looks like a seal that came un-sealed due to heat in garage but we'll get a full reporting from him on invoice too!) and though second job was really small, they don't treat anything as unimportant! We have 4 children and TRUST Mr. Tonkin & his employees and will gladly continue to refer him to family & friends (& here!). If there were 6 stars...they'd get it. We had a gas leak and subsequently the gas company turned off our gas. We called another company and said we needed them to come test the lines to find the leak. Not only did this other company not bring the pressure thingy (that's the proper term, you know) but they took less than 5 minutes to "look" and tell us where they thought the leak was and it would be over $8,000 to fix it! Hmm? Decided to get a second opinion and called Tonkin (the FIRST PLACE WE SHOULD HAVE CALLED). I don't have enough words to tell you how great, professional and honest this company is. Not only did they work their rear-ends off to find the leak (oh...there were several...NONE of which were anywhere near where the first guy said it was. Can you imagine? We would have spent $8000 and we still would have had a leak!) but these guys actually cared that we were without gas and really wanted to help find that leak.
