I had an amazing experience here today. I had purchased a Groupon for a 90 minute hot stone…read moremassage. Making an appointment was very easy. When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed. They have water bottles and hot tea for you while you wait or for after your session. I checked in at the front and was immediately taken back to a massage room. The room is very nice and clean with relaxing music playing in the background as well as nature sounds of water. The lights are dim to your level of comfort. You can remove as much or as little clothing as you like. I laid down on the comfortable table and waited for my masseuse. You can choose a male or female masseuse when you make your appointment. Laura came in and described what she was going to do. She asked if I had any areas on my body that were bothering me. I let her know my low back is an ongoing issue. I really appreciated that she asked me that and how much pressure I would like for the massage. I have to say, this was one of the best massages I have ever had. She did a combo of deep tissue and Swedish massage all over my body and also focused more on my low back. The hot stones felt really good and the heat level was just right. It was so relaxing and therapeutic. I really liked my experience with Laura. She helped my back feel better which is a miracle. I will definitely be coming back here again for more services. The staff here are all very friendly and make you feel comfortable and welcomed. I highly recommend coming here.

Parking is fine with three spots in front of the business and more areas to park on the sides. It did not seem like a busy area and parking does not seem to be an issue here. Amanda asked me if there were any areas she should focus on and also let me know I could let her know if I needed her to adjust the pressure. I've been getting massages in the San Jose area for years and Amanda is the first masseuse to ever ask me those questions. They also did a layer of heated towels between the sheet and the blanket that was magical and again, not something we've had done in other massage locations. The room was calming with low, warm lighting while we undressed. It was mostly shut off during our massage. The music was also playing low. Very easy to let yourself relax here. The lobby and overall space is well curated. The lobby has a coffee and tea bar that also has water post massage. 100/10 be sure to call and make an appt for you're girl!Can't wait to be back!

However, each time I've come in, the noise level, especially from the outdoor area has been extremely loud and disruptive. It would really help if doors were kept closed during sessions and if noise was minimized overall. Customers are walking in and out of that common area, so that door should remain closed at all times to avoid noise entering other people's sessons. I've heard loud conversations that felt like people were shouting across the space, cabinets slamming, and even staff walking around on speakerphone speaking loudly. While I was able to somewhat tune it out during previous visits, I recently brought a friend, and he was very unhappy with how noisy it was. People come in expecting a relaxing, and peaceful environment as that's the whole point of getting a massage. Unfortunately, the constant noise made it difficult to fully relax and took away from the overall experience. I hope improvements can be made to keep noise levels down, because a quiet atmosphere truly makes all the difference

Although these chair messages aren't advertised as deep tissue which confused me a bit. In any case, after about 20 minutes, he not only starts digging in more aggressively but is basically pounding me with his elbow and jabbing the back of my neck. I begin to feel a burn right below my shoulder and I start thinking maybe some hairs are getting rubbed out which can cause pinching sensations, mind you I don't have a very hairy back at all as you can see in the photos. I ask him to take it easy, frustrated with his overly aggressive methods. He begins to apply whatever cream they use and it stung like hell on both sides of my back. I told him to stop and take a photo of the area as it felt like my skin was being ripped off. He insisted it was hair being pulled. The photos only showed red irritated skin which is to be considered during messages but I knew something was off. I told him the session is over and that he is far too aggressive. Since I couldn't see any blood, I could only assume it may have been ripped out hair so I did pay for the time but told him I absolutely will not tip him. Once I get home, I take a shower and the warm water is burning my skin, at this point, it hurts to even lift my arm or bend over since it stretches the skin. I could barely sleep that night and sure enough, this morning, you can see skin literally broke and peeled away on both sides of my back. This guy assaulted me and needs to be removed from the profession!

Lucy and her therapists know exactly the spots to rub and push out and they use a variety of sophisticated techniques--even "walking" on the back use toes like fingers to press out spots of tension. Truth be told, it is a newer business and things don't go perfect every time, but Lucy is very gracious and professional if there's ever a schedule mix-up or if a therapist used happens to fall below expectations (rare), Lucy always goes out of her way to make it right. She looked visibly displeased with the amount, so I added another dollar. She then told me, "It's not like a restaurant, it's a VIP service," implying she expected a bigger tip. That experience was not VIP plus factor the masseuse' attitude. I won't be returning.

Tony gives one of the best massages I have ever had. I have had hundreds of massages in my life. Here in California, NY, Fl, in Europe (UK, FR & SP) and Asia (Hong Kong and Bejing). I travel a great deal for work and occasionally for pleasure. Where ever I live, one of my first tasks is to find a skilled body worker. When I first transferred to San Jose 3 yrs ago, I set out on that search. It took me several massages to find Tony in 2006. Since then, before and after any trip that takes me away for more than 2 weeks, I see Tony for a 90 minute session. If I am fortunate enough to be home for more than 2 weeks at a time I see Tony weekly. He sometimes comes to my home in SSJ. He brings his table, Hot Stones and Oils to me. His office is convienently located near downtown San Jose. His office is clean and air conditioned. Since first my first massage with Tony, I am a strong believer in what he calls an "Active Hot Stone Massage". He doesn't just place the stones on your body like most hot stone massages, but he glides them over your muscles like they were an extension of his very talented hands. Tony has a very charming personality, he has great music (not much new age) and always checks on my comfort level. I have many clients who travel to San Jose and have often recommend Tony, if they are in need of a massage. Both men and women clients sing his name in praise. I have great respect and confidence in Tony and his abilities. If you need a massage (and trust me everyone does) give Tony a call. 5 stars hardly seems enough. read more

Had my 2nd massage with Tony yesterday - all I can say is - AMAZING!! I went for the first time last week, with a muscle spasm, and the doctor's advice didn't work. So, decided to go for a massage. Being relatively new to the area, I referred to Yelp, and saw Tony - he had some great reviews so thought I'd give him a try. He was able to fit me in that day, which was great as I was in a lot of pain. He used different techniques to try and work through the pain, but unlike those Shiatsu places you see in the mall, he doesn't use so much pressure you're left wincing in pain - he kept checking the pressure was ok. The best bit is the hot stones - they're not left on your skin, but used to massage different parts of your back - the heat combined with the smoothness of the stone is a very soothing sensation and something different to other massages. He gave me advice on how to sit at the desk, and gave me pointers on the different stretches to do. The day after the massage, I still felt a little stiff, yet the day after - oh wow - COMPLETELY pain free - and I can't describe how bad my neck was before. I went back again yesterday for an hr long session, and it was just as good. Very good price for the quality of the massage - I honestly wouldn't think of going anywhere else. The new site is really nice as well; room has a warmer feel to it. I definitely recommend anyone who has muscle pain, or wants a really good quality massage to try out Tony - and there is the $10 voucher on his website as well. Thanks Tony!! read more

Skilled and capable only begin to describe Tony's expertise with massage therapy. I began seeing Tony in the fall of 2008 due to nagging back pain as a result of heavy lifting that anti-inflamatory drugs did little to reduce. After my first visit the pain disappeared and I had no need for medication. I knew then that I would become a repeat customer for minor flare-ups going forward, and as a result my range of motion has increased and chronic back pain has been reduced significantly. I received yet another massage from Tony recently that left me floating and provided a solid night of sound sleep. Tony will tailor his combination of strength and technique to best serve the needs of each client. He is friendly, intelligent and respectful with the ability to put the most apprehensive person completely at ease with the situation. So my first massage ever was given to me by Mr. Tony Drake. I definitely get the experience I was looking for. Not only did he get all the kinks out of my back but he also used hot stones. He was great to talk to great music was playing and a great atmosphere was available, candles lit very relaxing. Whats great about Tony is he makes it a very personal experience. If you just want to be silent you can tell him that. He doesn't make it weird or about him it's all about you and what you want. I'm a very very ticklish person. I'm ticklish on my feet and the inside of my legs and I would pull away immediately when he got close and he would figure out ways (I don't know how) to place his hands so it wasn't ticklish at all. On top of all that he always incoporates hot stones. The hot stones are the shit. It's great. It feels so good on your body. And NO, they do NOT burn you. They feel so so good. My back feels so good today I about to sit down and do some yoga to keep it stretched out and feeling as good as Tony left it. I will totally go back to him because I believe he will take all these kinks out. Also he's totally affordable. For 90 minutes of heaven it was 85 bucks! BALLIN! I went to Tony a couple of weeks ago since I had tension in my back which was starting to cause me some pain. I checked out Yelp to make sure that I wasn't going to waste my money on someone who didn't know what they were doing - I was happy to see the good reviews Tony had received so far so I decided to give him a try. Being 6'5" and 220lbs I need someone with the strength and know-how to deal with my size, and Tony fits the bill well. He concentrated on the problem areas and also worked on the rest of me. In addition to using his hands, he uses hot stones which is a pretty good way of assisting the relaxation of the muscle. At least I thought so. After my first visit the pain had been reduced significantly. I went back yesterday to get another session and this morning I woke up completely relaxed and tension free. If only health insurance covered massage therapy. All in all, Tony's a great CMT. Let's get this straight, this is not some sort of fluffy slippers, boutique spa treatment, it's a proper no frills massage. His rates are reasonable and he's great at getting back to you if you email or call at short notice. He has a pretty good taste in music too! Try Tony, you won't be disappointed. read more

I lift weights, play soccer and play basket ball. My body takes a fair amount of abuse. To ensure I don't suffer as much as I probably should, I see Tony Drake regularly (2-3xPer month). I first ran across his ad on CL and from his testimonials I thought I should give him a try. No matter how crappy I feel when I arrive at his office (on on the the few times he has come to my home) I always feel 100 times better on the way out. He has some sort of intuition that allows him to find the sore spots where I did not even know I had spots. After a massage from Tony and his Hot Stones, I sleep like a baby. Often waking in the same position I went to sleep. I may have some residual pain from whatever trauma I have inflicted on myself the day before, but I know from experience that what I feel is only a small percentage of what I would be feeling without being worked on by Tony. I saw Tony again today. It has been a month and a half since my last massage. I swear I will never to that again. I usually get massage every two weeks, but slowed down because the holidays were coming. I spent most of the Thanksgiving weekend with a sore back and a headache. This morning I decided that enough was enough. I gave Tony a call and he was able to fit me in right after work. The man is an artist, a craftsman. The 90 min on his table were like a vacation. I started out all achy and feeling quite like crap. I could feel my blood pressure drop, as soon as I walked in. His calming personality, his incredibly warm and talented hands, hot stones, music, scent of the oil all work together. By the time I walked out the door, my headache was gone, my back feels fantastic and I have more energy than when I got out of bed this morning. I have already booked an appointment for next week. Tony is one of the best massage therapists I have ever encountered and I've had business with many. His good-natured, non-judgmental and professional demeanor immediately put me at ease and allowed me to reach states of deep relaxation the first time I experienced his massage and it has been that way ever since. He has the strength and build to release the stress I hold in my shoulders as well as the intuition and sensitivity to help me find relief from my chronic back condition. His rates are not just competitive, they are much more affordable than other CMTs so it's easy to include his massage into my household budget. I had the first message in my life with Tony and it was great! Yes, it hurt, but after months, maybe years, of stress there were a lot of knots that had to be worked out. I was sore the next day, but nothing that was horrible. What is the best news is that before seeing Tony I had a knot in my lower back that spasm in the early mornings, thereby waking me up. Since seeing him I haven't woken up once from that knot. Getting a good night's sleep is really worth whatever pain might come from breaking up the knots, and honestly, Tony was great! The only drawback, he's on the 2nd floor of a building without an elevator, so anyone with mobile issues might have trouble. I have a blown knee and it was a challenge to get up and down the stairs. I needed to be deeply relaxed and sleep well before an early start and major examination the following morning. This was very important for me. I researched trained massage therapists in San Jose and liked what I read about Tony Drake's heated stones technology. I made an appointment and Mr. Drake proved to be the perfect solution. The massage was excellent. His expertise got me relaxed, calm and I slept deeply for 7 hours without any trouble. In the morming, I felt well rested and bright for my test. I can't say enough good things about Tony. First - he knows what he's doing. His technique is great, and I'm a pregnant woman so I get prenatal massages- and I can tell he knows what needs to be done and what precautions must be taken in my circumstances. Second, he's considerate and courteous of each individual's preferences and tastes. He caters the massage to your needs, and he'll ask before doing anything to make sure you're OK with it. Third, he's a GREAT conversationalist - has lived a varied and interesting life and has lots of great experiences to tell.. Fourth - and this is the clincher for me - his rates are super. Tonys massage was an experience. Truth be told, this isn't a casual massage, one that u pop in for and forget about 5 minutes after you leave. His use of hot stones, with full and deep strokes, his attention to detail, and his pleasant manner and frankness made this a real treat. Tonys massages are therapuetic and full. You leave feeling like every muscle was squeezed and molded into something else. You're changed by it. I liken it to a really good, intense workout. You're tired and want to rest afterwards, but you're also renergized and invigorated. This isn't a casual, throw away massage. I received my first massage from Tony yesterday. I was EXTREMELY satisfied with the results! Tony is very accommodating and was willing set up an appointment for me as late as 10pm. I play softball 3 times a week so my body takes a lot of beating. Tony's therapy is ideal for the perfect athlete. He located many knots in my shoulders and back and was able to relieve any tension that was cause by stress. Tony was very knowledgeable in the art of "Massage-Technology". I have had the opportunity to visit Tony on a number of occasions and I have been meaning to get on here and write a review. Tony is the ultimate professional and is the only CMT I have ever visited that made me comfortable from the first moment I walked in. The room is always nice with great music playing. I always feel amazing after leaving his office. I would go every week if it was something I could afford. For now, I go about once a month and it is a treat for me to be able to put my body in the hands of this skillful master of massage. I have always had a love and hate relationship with massages, I love what they can do for my well being and I hate that its SO hard to find a really good masseur. This relationship has finally become win-win. I cannot recommend Tony enough. He is an ultimate professional who makes me feel incredibly comfortable in my session. He is the first masseur to have ever really listened to my verbal instructions (pleas actually) and to my body's intuitive guidance. I have written three reviews for Tony Drake who has helped my son so much. My son had a stroke at the age of 14 and suffers from dystonia because of it. Three years ago he was in a car accident which exacerbated the dystonia terribly. Mark gets relief from his constant pain with Tony's excellent massages. I have tried to tell that story before in my previous three reviews but the reviews disappear after one day. Am I not using the proper typeface? I mean, come on! Tony has incredible hands. As a trained and licensed massage therapist myself, I can appreciate the level of experience, skill, and energy that I experienced in the session that he gave me. It was awesome, and it left me both relaxed and energized. I will see Tony at least twice a month. I strongly recommend him either at his office or he will come to you. WOW WOW WOW!!! I just had my first massage with Tony and I just didn't want it to end. I started out with a 90 minute session and 45 minutes into my massage I asked if we could extend to 2 hours. I have seen a few different masseurs and have to say that Tony is by far the best. The hot stones were an amazing addition to an already spectacular massage. They both give excellent massages…read more Tom is very knowledgable about anatomy and can do deep tissue work better than anyone I have ever experienced. If I have an injury or just have overworked and under stretched, Tom can usually solve it in one or two sessions. I have been receiving massage from Tom for at least 6 years now. I have only had massage from Julie a few times, but she was also very effective and I would definitely go again. Both are also able to offer stretching exercises and ergonomic suggestions to help prevent having the same problems again. Usually I can walk in and if I'm willing to wait for 15-20 minutes, they can fit me in. But calling ahead is best if you want a bigger chunk of time.

After buying a Groupon and then trying to make an appointment I discovered the following. 1. Owner create her own rules beyond Groupon fine print. Tip is not voluntary based on service but is a required 20% in cash or PayPal. This amounts to a fixed add on fee not mentioned in Groupon. 2. A whole set of rules kind of create an atmosphere that leaves one not looking forward to a massage. 3. Massage lasted an actual 47 minutes according to the clock by the table. I called 2 other Sports medicine places and both said that 60 minutes should be 60 minutes. Perhaps she just shortens the massage for Groupon users. The massage itself was good. If you are considering a massage here, talk to them in advance and determine how much actual massage time you ill get. I think that the operator feels they didn't get paid enough on a groupon and try to claw the money back by short timing the massage and requiring fees. Had she not had a mandatory fee, I would have tipped anyway. But imposing the fee ruined the overall happy mood that a massage should create. Sorry Anita. Your massage is good but your business practices not so much. Sure you have to give a lot for what you receive with a Groupon. But that's how you get new customers.

Overall, I thought the massage was fantastic. Honestly, it was one of the best ones I've had in a long time. I have to admit, I walked out of his office feeling a bit sore from the massage, but the soreness started to subside later that evening, and by the next morning, the soreness went away altogether. I was able to complete my morning jog without a problem. I also slept very well. Pros: 1) Introduction: 10-15min intake form, brief discussion - I like this b/c it gave me a chance to tell Chuck what was going on with my body and what I was looking for. It also gave him a chance to get to know me, and ask any questions before we began. 2) Room: It was setup very nicely, and had a calm, serene feel to it. The massage table was also very comfortable. As a classical music lover, I could not have asked for a better music selection. 3) Massage Pressure: Spot on with the pressure, I liked how he used the 1-10 scale, so I could always tell him what number/level pressure I was feeling. I appreciated how he always adjusted based on the number I gave. Any knots, adhesions, etc that were present before the massage were smoothed/ironed out by the end of the session. 4) Communication: This is of utmost importance, in my book, to ensure that the client is getting what s/he needs, and that the masseuse understands what s/he should (not) do. I felt his communication was perfect, we had constant dialogue throughout the hour which allowed us both to know what was going on. 5) Timing: Although the massage was scheduled for 1 hour = 60 minutes, he actually gave me a few extra minutes so that he could finish working on the muscle group that he wanted to, without rushing through that muscle. He said that he wanted to do a thorough job so that I would like the massage and feel good after. This is something that I very much appreciated, and find extremely rare amongst most massage therapists. Cons: This is just me being picky. But the only slight downside would be the location, as Chuck's office is a bit far from where I live. It is roughly a 30 min drive in good traffic. However, his location has nothing to do with the quality of service or his ability as a massage therapist, therefore I am not deducting any stars for this comment. It is very obvious from the start that Chuck has been performing massage therapy for a long time, and he really knows his muscles, but more importantly, he knows athletes' muscles, which is of key importance for someone like me. As a long distance runner for the past several years, it makes a huge difference to me, to be worked on by a therapist who understands athletes. If you need a massage, whether a relaxing one, or something with deep pressure, go see Chuck, as he will take excellent care of you.

The first session is always an assessment. This was to better understand the pain and my current injuries. Honestly, if someone doesn't do this first, I'd question if they really knew what they were doing. An example: I've gotten more injured by another franchise that rhymes with The Oint because they never assessed and just went straight into movement. I booked an hour with a well experienced masseuse that used to work at the Olympics! Bob walked me through what I can do to improve my movement after our sessions, including neuromuscular exercises when I'm home. Before going to him I had MAJOR cramps during menstrual cycles, so painful I couldn't walk. The cramps were potentially due to my tight psoas. Just 2 sessions with Bob, I no longer have that issue. There are so many other issues due to tight muscles that were relieved after my sessions with Bob. And I can't wait to book more massage sessions!

I brought my cousin, who's visiting from LA, and she also had a less than satisfactory experience with her masseuse. It seems like my cousin had an older gentleman, who I remember not being the best from my previous visit. He's certainly a nice person, but he could benefit from some additional training in massage techniques. My massage was similarly lacking; my therapist kept rubbing in the same direction on my back and didn't really address any of my knots. In the past, the staff seemed to have a better intuition about where to focus, but today felt quite different. I really hope they can improve their training because I would love to come back--this place is so convenient and the staff is generally very friendly. It's just disappointing to have such a mixed experience.
