If a restaurant is PACKED at 630am on a Saturday morning, they are doing something remarkable. Although it is just a tiny hole in the wall, Tony's Breakfast is one of my favorite places to grab a quick & filling (AND AFFORDABLE) meal. There's not much seating so picture more of a carry-out/take-out restaurant. They are the H St kings of fried chicken wings. Fried to perfection, warm, and crispy. My favorite item on the menu is still the chicken and waffles (a fluffy waffle with delicious fried chicken), but the breakfast sandwiches and potato wedges are always delicious and satisfying. If you're looking for a quick and cheap meal -- stop by this place. My problems with this place have been with the customers than the actual restaurant. read more

I have to say... even though I didn't get a big hoagie, I wouldn't have minded if it was a foot long. That's my first thought when I bit into this hoagie. We came here because well, I was wondering if there was a good place for a hoagie. So we walked like 8 blocks to get here, and coming from a place where we don't walk much, it was nice, even if it was raining. I ordered the kitchen sink hoagie, which basically had everything. I didn't add the onions though (my lady's request). However, when I bit into this hoagie it was a burst of flavor. When we walked into Tony's, it was packed. The one thing I miss about where I live now is the diversity, and this place definitely had it. What was interesting for me was that it was ran by Asian people. I had to definitely give my nod there. Supposedly this place isn't the best of the neighborhoods, but hey, I don't think that bothered me one bit. It was nice to see coming from the monotony of where I currently live. When you come in, they have the menu on the chalkboard and I would say put in your order in. You'll get a ticket stub and they'll start getting through your order. I would definitely say that this isn't the sit down sort of spot, and more of a take out. It was so crowded that we decided to eat ours outside by the front door. Hey, it worked. Definitely a big fan of this place. Wish we had more of these types of shops down where I lived, because I would definitely be a regular. Customer Service: Amazing Food: Great amount of food for the price you pay. Super fresh and hot with just enough flavor. I ordered the breakfast burrito with avocado (no meat) and a side of home fries. The burrito was good, it's so filling that honestly you don't need a side to go with it. Only problem is it has too much egg but i know for next time. The wrap used was thin but thick enough for meal, it was almost like the wrap for an egg roll minus the fried shell. It soaked up all the juices and flavor yet added a touch to the burrito. The home fries was good and not what I'm use to, it's actually their fried wedges that are mashed and recooked. It was good and filling but i preferred the cubed potatoes for home fries but not a major complaint and I'm glad i asked for fried onions. Couldn't finish even half though because it was a lot lol. Price: You get what you pay for. Special Note: There's a place literally across the street that has Tony as their name which made it confusing when placing phone orders if you call online number. You must make sure it's the right place but the other place seems like a must try spot as well. I am not sure if they are affiliated with one another. Super Basic. And I'm not just trying to down talk them. It's a very basic breakfast takeout place. They don't do well with substitutions. They don't handle requests (separate container) well. I ordered Tony's big box for $7.75. Pancakes, home fries, 2 eggs and turkey bacon. The turkey bacon needed more cook time to not be so flimsy. The pancakes were basic pancakes. Not horrible but not exceptional. It's really a quick, inexpensive, and basic breakfast spot. I can't stress that anymore. Great for takeout. Some of the young people working there seemed to be a bit off and a manager or owner was trying to recenter their focus and fix an order that apparently was messed up. It's a 3 because I wasn't wowed. It runs average. Perks are the cost and portions. Final Words: Go if you want a basic and cost efficient takeout breakfast. I got two bacon egg and cheese sandwiches and I believe that the eggs or bread was moldy on both sandwiches. If you looked at the sandwich you wouldn't have served that to a customer. I've never experienced this here but I sure will not go back again. read more

Flew into DC on a red eye. Was so hungry at 5:30am and didn't know where to go. Saw that Tony's was just a few miles away and would be opening at 6. Got there and it was already packed. It's a small place (5-6 chairs at a counter) but the line moves fast. Most people were getting food to go. I got the chicken and waffles ($6.75) and it was great. Tony's Breakfast may not look like much from the outside, but if given a chance, you'll be very pleasantly surprised. The staff is nice, the food is delicious, the portions are pretty big and the prices are very economical. Seating is limited (it's mainly carryout), so if you come in at mealtime, be prepared to wait. However, if you visit around 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening, you'll have the place all to yourself. I paid an up charge to add a salmon cake to my platter and it was the most driest and unseasoned salmon cake I have ever had in my life. Sooo I've heard so much about this place but never had a chance to get down here! Soo having to run errands I was close to the area so 5-23-19 I pulled up and went in to My excitement fried chicken was sitting in the window staying heated. JC serviced me he was extremely nice and helpful even before knowing that it was my first time there. The place is small but manageable and it's a few seats outside and inside. Everything was neat and clean which was great , No Bathroom but I was more so focused on my Food lol. So I Ordered what was rightfully catchy and a definite welcome called the Welcome to H Street which was the Chicken and waffles which featured a Belgian Waffle and Three whole chicken wings. So lemme tell You that waffle!!!! Honey all on its own was Bomb as hell and the Softest most beautiful lightly tinted brown waffle ever!!! It didn't even need butter that Thang was so soft!!! melt in your mouth and I've never had a just right kinda waffle before but the softness makes it stand out totally. Not to mention it has a tint of maybe cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla something anyways it was perfect!!!!... The Chicken was Fried to Perfection not too cooked hard with just enough crisp not all greasy definitely Grade A Chicken indeed. I've been going to Tony's Breakfast for at least six years. The food is ALWAYS ON POINT!! It's a small kinda low-key spot off H Street in NE. This is definitely a take-out spot, not really for sitting down and eating. Parking can be hard to find in the area. The food so good I usually park illegally. (Don't judge!) Make sure you go to Tony's Breakfast and not Tony's Place. They are right across the street from each other. I am a Croissant Lover and Breakfast!! So I typically order the egg and cheese croissant and if I'm feeling fancy I'll add a salmon cake. My food is always hot and tasty. I always call in my order because it usually a decent amount of people in Tony's. I have never had a problem with them messing up my order via phone. Today I order food for my mother, sister, and I. We order a Egg and Cheese Croissant w/ grape jelly, Bacon, Egg and Cheese Croissant, and a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Bagel. With A Side of Pancakes, Home Fries and Fried Apples. Lastly, a Jumbo Half and Half for the road. All that costed under $20. I found a space right in front today!! Yay. My order was ready by time I arrive. Took less than 15 minutes. Jadonna took great care of me, constantly calling me by my name. I ate majority of my sandwich before I made it home. The Croissant so fresh and flakey. My first time trying the Fried Apples. Had the Tony's Fat Boy: Big Breakfast Box which comes with Sausage, Bacon, Two Eggs, Homefries and Pancakes for $6.95, not a bad deal at all. Only draw back is that parking for this location is almost non-existant. The entrance is on 14th Street right between H Street and Maryland Avenue. Either you have to illegally park in front of the bus stop, in the alley next to the Shell Station or hope something opens up quickly on the street. read more

So let me get into this review. Im trying to figure out how this place has 4.5 stars AND SOOO MANY REVIEWS. I thought I did my due diligence by checking Yelp. Its my time to order. I order the bacon box with cheese grits, and scrambled eggs with cheese. Very basic, very simple not hard to mess up. Well let me tell you... How disappointed I was. First off, my cheese grits look like I ordered cheese with a side of grits smh: 2 slices of cheap cheese that just laid on top of the grits all lazy. They weren't blended in or anything. "How do you know if the cheese was cheap?" you ask, because the cheese didn't even melt! The bacon was good and eggs were just ok. The cheese in my eggs didn't melt either just in case you were wondering. For an extra 50 cents I would think the cheese would be of better quality. My friend Alyse was equally disappointed with her rice & gravy and green beans. She said the rice and gravy tasted like a bologna sandwich. The green beans were bland straight from a can! She wanted to give this place no stars because it was a waste of time. But I'll give it 1 star because it didn't break the bank. What Tony's offers is far too underrated, under appreciated, and underserved in DC. This is an awesome little family run shop that used to be Tony's Carryout across the street, opened up their own place now called Tony's Breakfast, and has unfortunately been swaggerjacked by a "Tony's Place" in their old location a stone's throw away. Regardless of all that confusion, just know that when you find this little hole in the wall tucked just off the busy H Street main strip you're in for a treat. As I've mentioned before, I'm always struggling trying to find places to take my parents to eat when they're in town visiting, especially so when my dad is here. It's not that they're high maintenance, rather the opposite. They really just want simple food that reminds them of home, rarely enjoying adventurous eating (although mom's recent infatuation with Ethiopian has had her going to Ethiopic and Zenebech on successive trips). So for me, Tony's was a no brainer when they came to visit this past time around. I've neglected to photograph most of the giant platters of food that Tony's heaps upon its customers, but the Fat Boy Breakfast Box should indicate to some degree the value that's behind these walls. For the price of a breakfast sandwich at most places you get eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and pancakes. It's ridiculous, and could probably feed 3 people, or one hungover me. The best part is that it doesn't taste like cheap breakfast food, it actually has good flavor without being obscenely greasy. The staff here couldn't be anymore friendly either, it truly feels like a neighborhood gathering spot in the mornings. They taste like your typical diner potatoes...nice and flavorful. The eggs would have been good, but they used sliced american cheese...no bueno. The pancakes were great, but the syrup they include with them is not so great. The food is not spectacular, but not terrible for $7. You get what you pay for, right? Okay so, my first time visiting this location was Dec 14th 2021. Honestly, given the location the inside looked pretty fine to me. Cashier was a very nice gentleman. I got a steak and cheese with everything on it and four wings with potato wedges. The sandwich was actually really good! No mold on the bread but be sure to look out for as stated in other reviews. The potatoes wedges were good! Now the wings were seasoned, but I think they were too well seasoned. So maybe not add too much seasoning (salty I should say) but overall the meal was edible! 4 stars because of the steak and cheese along with the potato wedges! read more

Why would the food be so good here?!? I came in last night on the way home from a get together. I had been checking this place out for a while and figured last night was the time to try Tony's. The place is pretty small, with enough room to seat probably 4-5 people only. We were eager to try their avocado wrap and chicken and waffles. We also got a club sandwich to share. The avocado wrap was legit. It had a flour tortilla, eggs, bacon, and a decent amount of avocado. There did not have much spice in the wrap except for salt and pepper, but overall I liked it. The chicken and waffle was disappointing. The chicken was not crispy. Seemed like it had sat there for hours and the oils started draining out. The waffle was soggy even before we put on the maple syrup. It was not good at all. The club sandwich was good, but kind of like any other club sandwich I've had else where.
